Personally I hope the thieves are caught in both cases and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If I caught anyone trying to lift my hot rod, they would never be able to write their name or pick their nose again as their hands would be so mangled from accidently getting caught in the door jamb.

We have all said these words at one time of another, about a lot of things as it pertains to our cool cars and trucks, and a lot of things that go along with owning and building them.

One of the worst things that can ever happen is having your cool car or truck stolen! It’s even worse if it happens while you are at a show or event and are out of town.

Make sure you have insurance on your ride. Stated value is the best. If you think its worth this much, guess again. If you had to have a shop fix your car, go get a quote. That’s how much insurance coverage you need.

But it happens! EVERYDAY!!!

This past weekend in Bowling Green KY, a friend of ours had his immaculate 1969 Chevelle SS396 stolen from the hotel he was staying at, sometime in the middle of the night. Car was locked, out in front, in a well lite parking lot. Jeff came out in the morning to wipe it down and NO CAR!!! Talk about a punch to the gut..OUCH!!

Parking in a well lite are is best.

Lock your car always! Don’t invite a thief by leaving valuables in the car for them to see.

Put a power cutoff in the car. Make it hard to find! Make it keyed so its harder to turn on. Is it a pain for you...maybe but how big a pain is it to lose your car to a thief?

Think it’s only the “little guy” who gets hit? Think again! Last week the Street Rodder Magazine Road Tour Car got stolen in Bakersfield CA from in front of the Sheraton Hotel.

By 1969 the Pony wars between the big three were at a frothing boil. The catch phrase “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” became scripture to the Detroit manufacturers.

Whoever could build the most desirable large-cubed engine powering the sleekest vehicle on the racetrack, would win customers on the showroom floor. To the Ford enthusiasts and muscle car aficionados alike, the 1969 Mustang, Boss 429 is legend. Only 859 of the “Boss 9s” were produced in 1969.

Every year, at GOODGUYS Rod & Custom Assoc. shows across the USA, hot rodders enter their cool rides in the various judging area’s that are set up at the events.

Four of the most popular awards that come out of the judging all year, are the Truck of the Year Late, Truck of the Year Early, Muscle Machine of the Year and Muscle Car of the Year. Winning one of these awards, says a lot about the vehicle, the builder and or owner of the winners.

Over the next four issues, we will feature the 4 “Of The Year” award winners from Goodguys So, without further ado…we present to you the 2016 “Muscle Car of The Year” Award winner.—Jimmy B Gary McKay Tacoma, WA 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 After several years of trying with his vast collection of factory muscle cars, Tacoma collector Gary McKay broke through, having his Raven Black 1969 Mustang Boss 429 named Goodguys 2016 MSD Muscle Car of the Year. One of the rarest muscle cars ever produced, it is the first time a Ford has won the Goodguys top prize for Muscle Cars.

McKay’s Raven Black Mustang was born on April 17th 1969, at Ford’s Dearborn, 22

Michigan plant. All 859 Mustangs that were granted the special Boss status were then sent to Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan for alteration. Kar Kraft was contracted by Ford to handle its specialty-constructed vehicles. The 429c.i. engines would not just drop into the engine bay - alteration was necessary to receive the massive motor.

The wheel wells required widening, and the suspension was altered to accommodate the weight.

What makes this Mustang unique compared to all the other 1969 Mustangs produced is the obvious power plant. The 429 was born of the 385 big block, with 4-bolt main caps, a forged steel crank and forged steel connecting rods. The bottom end of the engine is solid as bedrock. With a firm foundation, Ford focused its attention on the cylinder heads. This is where the magic happens. The semi-hemispherical combustion chamber aluminum heads, combined with the high-rise aluminum intake and 735 cc Holley Carburetor give the engine outstanding lung capacity and fuel burn. Ford, like many of the other automotive manufacturers at the time tended to underrate their performance numbers. Factory numbers report that the Boss 429 produced 375hp and 450 lb·ft of torque. Actual horsepower numbers have been reported well above the 500 mark.

When he acquired this Mustang nearly seven years ago, McKay reports that it was in a great state of preservation. By his standards it still required a full concourse restoration and that’s what took place. The interior down to the carpet is factory original, so no work was needed there. Any parts of the vehicle that needed replacement were all NOS components. After its repaint the Mustang was put back to original condition, and the best part of the story is, it only has 18,000 original miles. This pony car is still Boss.

Look for the black beast in the Top 12 exhibit at the season-ending Goodguys Southwest Nationals at Westowlrd in Scottsdale November 18-20. McKay will receive his special award as well as the custom Snap-on Toolbox. Congrats to both McKay and the Ford Motor Company on their first Goodguys Muscle Car of the Year victory!

OCT 2016: OCT 28: SMYRNA TN: CEDAR GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CRUISE IN AND TRUNK OR TREAT: “CRUISIN WITH THE WOLVES” Located at Cedar Grove Elementary School, 354 Chaney Rd. This is a free event and all that is asked is a bag of individually wrapped candy. Concessions will be on site and festivities will be open to the public. The purpose of the cruise in is to expose students and families to the rich auto-

motive history in our surrounding counties. All money raised from the event goes directly to the school to enrich student learning at Cedar Grove Elementary.
