“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

I referenced earlier that it was HOT at the show. It was very hot to say the least. The breeze both days was a welcome relief for everyone walking around to check out all the cool rides at LP field. One thing that a lot of us take for granted, are the first responders that are on-site to help in case of an emergency. This picture shows what was going on where we were sitting on Saturday. An older gentleman was having a hard time with the heat and eventually slumped over in his chair. The person with him, his son I am guessing, flagged down some of the roving security staff and they immediately went into action! While the gentleman was transported to a local hospital, he was sitting up and talking while he was loaded in the ambulance. THANK YOU TO THOSE FIRST RESPONDERS for being there...again...it’s all about the people...

Back in the office after a great weekend at the Goodguys Nashville Nationals. Had a great time as long time friends came into town for the show. That just makes going to an event like this, that much better. We will be doing a full feature story on the event in a later issue, some thoughts to share today based on our weekend of gearhead fun. Once again it was re-enforced over and over for me, that this thing we love called cars or hot rodding, gearhead fun or what ever you refer to it as, is all about the people. While sitting and taking a break(it was HOTTT), when people walked away from their vehicles, they were just steel, rubber, paint chrome and cloth. The vehicles come to life when the people are in them and around them too! It was great seeing all of you that we did at the show. Y’all are great!

“the fun starts here”….

VINTAGE AIR UPDATES ITS ’67 AND ’68 F-BODY SUREFIT SYSTEMS New features in the Gen IV SureFit kit allow for an easier and cleaner installation in early FBody vehicles Vintage Air, the leading manufacturer of complete performance air conditioning systems for muscle cars, hot rods and street rods, announces the release of its updated Gen IV SureFit air conditioning system for the 1967 and 1968 Camaro and Firebird models. This new system is available as both a Complete Kit and Evaporator Kit and features several new upgrades including fenderwell routing and infinite blower fan speed adjustments. The early GM F-Body cars are some of the most popular in terms of restoration and racing. As part of Vintage Air’s continuous improvement with engineering goals, the new 1967 and 1968 Camaro and Firebird SureFit kit now incorporates several features that will enhance its appearance and performance. Upgrades include a new refrigerant and heater hose routing through the fenderwell, evaporator height in-dash, condenser mounts with integral drier bracket and simplified controls conversion. The control conversion eliminates the OEM three -speed blower switch on the factory A/C cars and adds a cable converter potentiometer to deliver infinite blower fan speed adjustment so you can attain that, “just right temperature” in any weather. The upgraded ’67-‘68 F-Body Gen IV SureFit air conditioning system will be available as a Complete Kit for factory A/C cars (Part Number 964190) and non A/C Cars (Part Number 961190). For those installations that do not require the under-hood components, Evaporator Kits are also available for factory A/C car (Part Number 564190) and non A/C car (Part Number 561190) models. Vintage Air systems are made in the USA, include components necessary for a complete installation, and are backed by a three-year warranty. For more information on the Vintage Air Gen IV SureFit air conditioning system for the 1967 and 1968 Camaro and Firebird, visit www.vintageair.com or call (800) 862-6658.

They call it the Custom Capital of the world...Sacramento California that is. From its humble beginnings as a two day hot rod show in November of 1950, the Sacramento Autorama stands as the premier showcase of the radical custom and exotic show cars.

Each year since 1950, thousands of spectators make the annual trek to California's capitol city to view the latest in chopped, channeled, sectioned and chromed cars as well as hot rods, pickups, motorcycles, muscle cars and street machines. A little history...The Autorama was started by Sacramento 54

businessman Harold "Baggy" Bagdasarian. In 1950, while serving as president of the Capitol City Auto Club Thunderbolts, he talked the members into having a show to settle friendly arguments over the outstanding merits of their personal customized cars. The Capitol Chevrolet Company dealership at 13th and K Streets in downtown Sacramento was the site of the first gathering, which attracted 22 entries and 500 spectators. "We took in $262 in two days at 74 cents a head," Baggy recalled. "We didn't charge 75 cents because we would have gotten involved in the Federal Amusement Tax." The first Best Custom Car trophy went to Leroy Semas for his 1937 Chevrolet coupe, and Burton Davis was the winner for Best Rod with his 1931 Ford Roadster. In 1970, Bagdasarian moved the Autorama into three buildings at the Cal Expo. Entries increased to about 175 and two of the buildings were used for displays. The third was converted to a 1,500 seat movie theater. The Sacramento Autorama has expanded to more buildings to accommodate its present day exhibition of nearly 300 of the most spectacular vehicles in the world.

55

56

57

Over the years, spectators at the Autorama have enjoyed entries from the most notable custom car builders of all time. The exhibit halls have been flavored with works of art from George Barris and the Late Sam Barris, Joe Bailon, Dick Bertolucci, Andy and Roy Brizio, Boyd Coddington, Ed and Roy Cortopassi, Joe Cruces, Frank DeRosa, Sam and Chip Foose, Blackie Gejeian, Ermie Immerso, Tommy Ivo, Romeo Palamides, Bill Reasoner, Don Tognotti, Dennis Varni and Gene Winfield, just to name a few. Hundreds of dazzling vehicles and displays are the key ingredients of the famous Sacramento Autorama, which continues into a new century as one of the country's most popular car events. Reality is, however, that I have no time and must get the house in shape to sell before April. If you are interested or know someone that might enjoy this fine car please have them give me a call, (256) 665-3345. (3-
