With the new year comes New Years Resolutions. New Years Resolutions are a funny thing. A lot of people make a long list of things they want to change and then they never follow thru, lose the list or just plain give up. You know what I am talking about, heck you may have been thru one of these scenarios yourself.

2018 is our 18th year of doing the Gearhead Gazzette. We are very proud of that. What started as an email in the beginning, telling some hot rod buddies where the shows are at in and around Middle Tennesse, to what you read each week now, has been one great journey.

We are making a few resolutions for ourselves for 2018: > Be HAPPY: If you are not happy its not worth doing so we are focusing on this one.

Nitro Revival to be Held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Gathering of vintage drag cars to highlight second day of Spring Classic Event The distinct cackle of Nitro Revival will be coming to the Monterey Peninsula during the second annual Spring Classic on May 18-20.

The gathering of vintage and restored nitromethane-powered drag cars and legendary drag racing personalities will take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the iconic facility's vintage racing event with feature activity occurring on Saturday, May 19.

The Spring Classic celebrates motorsports eras from the 1960s, '70s, '80s, and '90s.

Nitro Revival brings the sights and sounds of the early days of front-engine Top Fuel dragsters and other organized hot rod racing back to life with a large lineup of fully restored machines. It serves as a reunion for racers from that era and gives fans the experience of a drag racing museum come to life.

Fuelers will do push starts with periodcorrect push start vehicles and burnouts.

There will also be a large turnout of classic street rods and hot rods. The Saturday event will close with a "Line of Fire" mass fire-up that will have the cackling sounds of vintage drag cars echoing through the rolling hills of the scenic Monterey Peninsula.

"Nitro Revival is a unique car show with unique vehicles that celebrate drag racing," said Steve Gibbs, Nitro Revival producer.

"Laguna Seca is an iconic place with a facility that can accommodate the growth of Nitro Revival, and we are able to add a historical

drag race element to their event. There is a lot of drag racing history on the Central Coast and Bay Area. Monterey also has a lot to offer as a destination."

Nitro Revival will enhance the paddock experience of the three-day vintage race held May 18-20. The 11 run groups of approximately 200 historically-correct sports and race cars that will race on the 11-turn, 2.238mile road course during the Spring Classic range from 1966-74 Can-Am to 1974-94 Stock Cars to Historic Motorcycle exhibitions.

“Everyone who has an interest in motorsports, cars and moving entertainment will enjoy their experience at the Spring Classic that features Nitro Revival,” added Gill Campbell, senior vice president of events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “There will be something to enjoy for all ages, from sports and Formula One race cars to historic motorcycles to the high-powered drag racers; it will be a sensory overload.”

When it’s Labor Day weekend, that means it’s time for the HOT ROD HULLABALOO. Hot rodders and gearheads headed to Lexington KY for a great time again in 2017. There was a hiccup at the 2017 Hullabaloo. The weather did not cooperate and the show date had to be changed to Mid-October. Guess what? The hot rodders and gearheads made the trip to Lexington for HULLABALOO fun….that’s how much they like this event.

The fun starts on Friday night before the show, with a PRE-SHOW CRUISE at the historic PARKETTE Drive-In. If you watch the FOOD NETWORK show, Diners, Drive-In’s & Dives, you may have seen the episode where they featured the PARKETTE Drive-In. Cool place, great food and cool cars cruising on a Friday night. That’s how you kick off a fun gearhead weekend.

The Hot Rod Hullabaloo is focused on pre-’68 models, but all makes, models and newer vehicles are always welcome to attend and do too!

There was music, B-B-Q, souvenirs, vendors, Hot Wheels Drag races and once again, the world famous “Hoodlum Down Hill Race” was held.

This hot rod get together is absolutely free to participate in! Shelby’s Way was collecting donations for the cause (Bringing Awareness to Suicide Prevention) as well as selling t-shirts and other merchandise to raise money for the 501c3 non-profit.

We have to give some props to Mark Cain who puts this whole deal together.

He has help doing the Hullabaloo, but Mark is the driving force behind the event.

When talking about the HOT ROD HULLABALOO, you have to talk about the reason for the event. It is a fund raiser for SHELBY’s WAY. After the death of his son Shelby in 2009 by suicide, Mark Cain started a non-profit. Shelby’s Way, in Lexington, KY, not only educates and informs, but through their events, the Hullabaloo is just one, they raise money to help clients with everyday financial needs, mental health care and medicine along with funds to help families bury their loved ones lost by suicide. Through the spirit of community and fellowship they try to prevent another tragic loss and they work to end the stigma of discussing the difficult topics of suicide and our own well being! Our hats are off to Mark, his wife and all those who help Mark with Shelby’s Way.
