Acoustic listening equipment picks up the sound escaping water makes at a pipe breach, through floors, walls, concrete and paving. Thermal imaging cameras show the warm path of a leaking heating or hot water pipe, provided the system is running and up to temperature. Tracer gas (a harmless hydrogen mix) goes into the water pipe under low pressure, and a probe picks it up where it escapes at the surface. Pressure testing and moisture meters confirm that a system is losing water and map the damp it leaves behind.
