Liberals and Nationals’ healthy
lunches are ready to order
MELBOURNE, Oct 30: Victorian public-school students will receive a free, healthy and nutritious lunch each day in an ambitious plan to improve student health and wellbeing, and to support families with the task and cost of daily school lunches. Providing a healthy lunch not only improves nutrition and energy levels for students but has well documented learning and educational benefits as well. Additionally, with the cost of living continuing to spiral, our plan will help to ease the squeeze on family budgets. Currently governments do not measure how many students go hungry each day, but literature and research suggests that as many as a third of students in some cohorts are either not eating a proper lunch or are experiencing food insecurity at school. Our Healthy Lunches program will: 1. Provide a free quality healthy lunch to students in all year levels (Prep to Year 12). 2. Have meal options assessed by a panel of nutrition experts. 3. Be an opt-in program, with parents choosing lunches via an app or website. 4. Provide a boost to local small to medium businesses to cater to schools. 5. Provide a real solution to food insecurity and cost of living pressures for families.
The Healthy Lunches program will commence as a two-year $300 million pilot, with rollout initially targeted into selected state primary schools in the second half of 2023. It is anticipated that the program could be available to all state schools by 2026. Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy said he is excited at the thought of providing healthy lunches in schools. “As a parent of three boys, I know how difficult it can be to always provide your child with the best lunch option, at the best of times.” “The Healthy Lunches program will take the stress and cost away from parents in providing nutritious food to their children at school. “Healthy lunches is another part of our plan to reward hard-working families and can only be afforded because we are reining in Daniel Andrews’ spiralling debt and cutting waste such as the $4.7 billion West Gate tunnel blow-out.” Shadow Minister for Education, David Hodgett said that educational benefits of providing healthy lunches would be a boost to students having experienced so many educational difficulties over the past few years. “The research in providing healthy lunches clearly demonstrates improved outcomes in learning, concentration, participation in class, academic performance and attendance at school.”

32,000 Victorians to benefit from new dental voucher scheme
MELBOURNE, Nov 03: Up to 32,000 Victorians needing priority dental treatment will benefit from a new $500 dental voucher scheme to be introduced by a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government. Further, in a major funding boost to public dental services, $200 million in additional funding over four years, will be invested to increase base funding capacity to the sector. Currently, people on the public dental
waitlist are forced to either wait for over two yearsplus until their dental appointment comes up or find $500 or more that they don’t have and go to a private dentist. Our vouchers will allow high priority public dental patients to access private dental services as soon as possible. Under the Andrews Labor Government, the number of Victorians awaiting critical dental care remains unacceptably high at more than 64,000, with the average public dental waiting period now 26.7 months. We will provide $500 dental vouchers to 32,000 Victorians to halve the dental waitlist within two years. The vitally needed $200 million funding boost to public dental services base funding will allow the employment of more public sector dentists and staff to ensure that the

unacceptably high public dental waiting list numbers under the Andrews Labor Government never happen again. Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said the commitment to halve public dental waitlists and to significantly boost public dental funding was an important part of the Liberals and Nationals’ plan to fix the health crisis and provide assistance to struggling families. “As Premier, my first priority will be to fix the health crisis including a boost to public dental funding,” Mr Guy said. “Victorians are struggling under the spiralling cost of living and our dental vouchers will help around 32,000 Victorians to get the dental treatment they can’t currently afford.” “Importantly, the only way we can pay for this is by reining in Daniel Andrews’ spiralling debt and cutting waste such as the $4.7 billion West Gate Tunnel blowout.” Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said only the Liberals and Nationals had real solutions to fix the health crisis and give Victorians the care they deserve. “For years, public dental care has been put in the too hard basket by Daniel Andrews – meaning longer wait times for Victorians in need,” Ms Crozier said. “Only the Liberals and Nationals have real solutions to fix the health crisis, boost public dental funding and halve dental waitlists within two years.” (MEDIA RELEASE)

Accelerating The Next Generation of Electric Vehicle Chargers
MELBOURNE, OCT 30: The Andrews Labor Government is accelerating electric vehicle infrastructure for businesses and not-for-profits by delivering more chargers across Victoria and investing in innovative new charging technologies. Minister for Environment and Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio announced $1.55 million in grants for 14 organisations under its program for EV Charging for Business and Not-for-Profits. The program will install 58 charging stations at 24 organisations across the state in 2023, helping drive down their
emissions and cut fuel bills. This investment is part of the Labor Government’s $100 million Zero Emissions Vehicle Roadmap – supporting Victoria’s transition to electric vehicles, driving the deployment of EV charging technology and helping make EVs more affordable by growing the second-hand market. Regional Victoria will receive $727,000 and metropolitan Melbourne will receive $827,000, with chargers ranging from 7 to 60 kilowatts depending on location, fleet size and frequency of use.
The Labor Government has also announced a new $3.18 million program to support new Zero Emissions Vehicle Emerging Technologies. The program will support pilots, trials and implementationready projects using innovative EV charging technologies, such as wireless charging and bidirectional, vehicle-to-grid charging. Other eligible technologies include EV charging in high density areas, off-street parking areas and smart chargers that reduce costs or optimise charging during off-peak periods or maximise rooftop solar. The roadmap also invested $5 million for new fast-charging stations across Victoria − ensuring drivers in any Victorian town will be at most one hour away from a charger and as well as infrastructure for local councils and businesses to support their fleets. To put a new ZEV within reach of more families, the Government has invested $46 million in the Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEV) Subsidy, reducing the upfront cost by $3,000 and driving the creation of a second-hand market. These initiatives will play a key role in helping achieve our target of 50 per cent of all new light vehicles sales being zero emissions by 2030 and help Victoria achieve its ambitious emissions reductions targets. Applications are open until 10 February 2023. Digital Advances Cut Red Tape, Save Time for Businesses
MELBOURNE, Nov 01: The Andrews Labor Government’s $10 million Business Acceleration Fund is delivering 25 new initiatives to improve digital services and make approvals simpler for businesses – many focusing on local government. The projects will deliver benefits to business by streamlining approvals, reducing permit application times and improving a range of local government regulatory requirements through digitisation. Cutting red tape to save time and money for Victorian businesses, and ultimately benefiting consumers, defines the Business Acceleration Fund. Businesses across the hospitality, agriculture, construction and property industries are among those that can expect to benefit with quicker application processes and less unnecessary hassle. Digitisation is a driving force behind Victoria’s progressive slashing of red tape,
making it easier for businesses to access government services, simplifying interactions with bureaucracy and fast-tracking applications for licences and permits. Business Acceleration Fund support will enable Maroondah City Council, in partnership with Service Victoria, to digitise 19 business permits, while Maroondah will also lead a project involving neighbouring councils to introduce uniform rules for roadside and footpath trading, fitness training in parks and the use of skip bins. Melton City Council and Moira Shire Council will receive funding to offer automatic approvals on the Service Victoria platform for footpath trading, outdoor fitness and placing skip bins, speeding up the time it takes for businesses to get approvals. The City of Greater Geelong will digitise tens of thousands of historical planning files, enabling information requests and new applications to be processed quicker. Hume

City Council will undertake a similar project. Funding will allow Mount Alexander Shire to expand its digitisation work to include permit processes for planning, building, public and environmental health and local laws. The Mansfield, Murrindindi, Strathbogie and Benalla municipalities will be supported to modernise their systems to accommodate online payments and online tracking of applications. There are more than 90 reforms being delivered through the Business Acceleration Fund and the $40 million Regulation Reform Incentive Fund. These initiatives are expected to deliver an estimated $325 million in benefits annually, with estimated time savings of more than 300,000 days each year. (MEDIA RELEASE)

Arsonists to be tracked during Australian bushfire season under new laws
CANBERRA, Nov 02: Convicted arsonists could be electronically tracked during the bushfire season under new proposed laws in South Australia (SA). The legislation, which SA Attorney-General Kyam Maher detailed ahead of introducing it to Parliament, would give police the power to seek court orders compelling arsonists previously found guilty of deliberately starting a bushfire to wear tracking devices.
Police already keep watch on convicted and suspected arsonists, but Maher said electronic tracking would boost surveillance of those who pose the greatest risk through the fire danger season, which officially runs from November 1 through to April. "For the first time, once these laws pass, police will be able to apply to electronically monitor those who have been convicted in the past of setting bushfires," he told
reporters. "It will be the police who make the assessment about the risk that someone who's been convicted of this offence will pose, and it will be the court that decides on the evidence presented to them whether to make this order or not. "If they make such an order, it applies indefinitely for the fire danger season." More than 180 people were arrested for allegedly lighting bushfires across SA, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales in 2019. As of 2017-18 SA Police were tracking more than 200 firebugs through their existing means. Maher added that the new laws would only apply to the most dangerous offenders. "It's a handful of people each year who face these charges and are sentenced, so the numbers won't be massive, but it will be targeted directly at those who pose the most risk," he said. "An offender is at liberty, under the legislation, to apply in the future to have that order taken off them but, unless that happens, it applies for every fire danger season."

Australian housing prices drop for six months in a row
CANBERRA, Nov 01: Housing price in Australia have recorded a sixth-month slump in a row, according to the latest data released. Property analyst firm, Corelogic's national 'Home Value Index' monthly report revealed that across the nation dwelling values fell by a further 1.2 per cent in October from a month earlier, with every capital city and
nearly every region recording a drop in housing values. Among the capital cities, Brisbane saw the most pronounced fall of 2 per cent, while the pace of falls continued to ease across Sydney and Melbourne. New South Wales (down 1.7 per cent) and Victoria (down 1.4 per cent) fell the most, although prices rose slightly in South

Australia (up 0.1 per cent). Corelogic's Research Director Tim Lawless said it is probably still too early to claim the worst of the decline phase is over. "Despite the easing in the pace of decline, with Australian borrowers facing the double whammy of further interest rate hikes along with persistently high and rising inflation, there is a genuine risk we could see the rate of decline re-accelerate as interest rates rise further and household balance sheets become more thinly stretched," he said. The Reserve Bank of Australia has increased rates six times from May to 2.6 per cent. It is scheduled to unveil the monthly monetary decision on Tuesday with a further 0.25 percentage point increase widely expected. The Corelogic data also revealed that the prices of house continued to fall at a faster rate than the prices of unit across most regions. "With borrowing capacity being hit hard as interest rates rise, it's likely more housing demand has been diverted towards more affordable sectors of the market," Lawless said.

New 10-yr plan to end domestic violence in Australia
CANBERRA, Oct 17: The Australian government announced a 10-year national plan to end domestic violence. Amanda Rishworth, Minister for Social Services, and Katy Gallagher, Minister for Women, along with state and territory officials launched the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children. The landmark blueprint for change calls for reforms to how justice systems, the health sector, perpetrators, media, schools and technology companies act, highlighting the
importance of engaging with men and boys to target violence at all levels. It features two five-year action plans, with a separate plan to be developed for Indigenous women and children. The plan suggests more funding be made available for men's behaviour change programs and perpetrator interventions. Kate Fitz-Gibbon, director of the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre, described the plan as "worldleading".
www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383
"It sets the ambition to create wholeof-system responses that not only support victim-survivors to survive, but to thrive beyond their experience of violence," she said. "This national plan represents a muchneeded decade-long commitment to eliminate the national crisis of domestic, family and sexual violence." One third of Australian women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15 and on average one woman is killed by an intimate partner every 10 days, according to the report. In addition, violence against women and children costs the economy A$26 billion ($16 billion) a year. "Violence against women and children is not inevitable," the report said. "By addressing the social, cultural, political and economic factors that drive this gendered violence, we can end it in one generation." "Current rates of family, domestic and sexual violence are unacceptable," Rishworth said. "We want to make these changes now so the next generation of women and children can live in a society free from violence. We need sustained and collective action across society." (IANS)

US prioritises ties with India
US President Joe Biden's administration unveiled the US National Defence Strategy 2022 on October 27. It lists plans to boost its defence ties with India to deter Chinese aggression in the region. The latest Defence Strategy states that China presents the most consequential and systemic challenge, while Russia poses acute threats to vital US national interests abroad and to the homeland. "The world is changing. We're at a significant inflection point in world history. And our country and the world, the US has always been able to chart the future in times of great change. We've been able to constantly renew ourselves. And time and again, we've proven there's not a single thing we cannot do as a nation when we do it together, and I mean that - not a single solitary thing," President Biden stated in the introductory note to the strategy. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin highlighted the different challenges posed by China and Russia as he unveiled the strategy. According to him the dangers are both conventional -- Moscow's aggression toward its neighbours and Beijing's efforts to gain control of Taiwan -- and nuclear, with Russia possessing an extensive arsenal and China's stocks of atomic weapons growing fast. The strategy likewise places the primary emphasis on China. It further asserts that Beijing is seeking to "refashion the Indo-Pacific region and the international system to suit its interests and authoritarian preferences", describing this dynamic as "the most comprehensive and serious challenge to US national security". The strategy says Chinese rhetoric about and "coercive activity" towards Taiwan, which Beijing has vowed to take control of, by force,
if necessary, is a destabilising factor that risks miscalculation and threatens peace in the area. As for Russia, it says the "acute threat" posed by Moscow has been most recently demonstrated by its invasion of Ukraine. Though the strategy tries to portray the US ties in the Indo-Pacific as the most important one, yet India as a whole is mentioned in the strategy only five times and that too in the context of the Indo-Pacific, and there too it refers to China's campaigns to establish control over the East China Sea, Taiwan Strait, South China Sea, and disputed land borders such as with India. It proclaims to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific, which could only be achieved if the US builds collective capacity with other countries, like India. It further asserts that no region will be of more significance to the world and to everyday Americans than the Indo-Pacific, yet it fails to demonstrate India's importance to achieve this goal as a partner. The document lists out the US Vision, Washington's role in the global arena, and an overview of its strategic approach to different regional issues. Focussing on Middle East, the strategy talks about tweaking its policy in the Middle East and North Africa by eschewing grand designs in favour of more practical steps that can advance US interests and help regional partners lay the foundation for greater stability, prosperity, and opportunity for the people of the Middle East and for the American people. The strategy sets forth a new framework for US policy in the region based on America's unparalleled comparative advantage in building partnerships, coalitions, and alliances to strengthen deterrence, while using diplomacy to de-escalate tensions, reduce risks of new conflicts, and set a longterm foundation for stability.
www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383
However, it clearly states that the United States will not allow foreign or regional powers to jeopardise freedom of navigation through the Middle East's waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al Mandab, nor tolerate efforts by any country to dominate another, or the region, through military build-ups, incursions, or threats. But if we scrutinise the strategy in a little more detail then we realise the emerging contradictions present in the strategy. When the strategy declares the U.S. commitment to support countries "that subscribe to the rules-based international order", will it include those OPEC countries which recently snubbed the U.S. demands for increased oil production? When it talks about "military build-ups" then does it really mean that the US will halt its longstanding efforts to advance its partners' "military build-ups" in the face of the threat from Iran? Further how could the US achieve the Israeli "dominance" of the Hamas and Hezbollah? Further the strategy lays stress on U.S. diplomacy to reduce tensions "wherever possible", will it translate into normalising ties with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, or meeting with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah? All this double talk on various regional and global issues and inherent contradictions of the strategy leads on to surmise that it is more of a document to placate the American public and not aimed at really achieving or changing substantially the US polices on these issues. Overall, the National Security Strategy 2022 comes out as a bit of disappointment though perhaps packaged coherently for the first time. By Asad Mirza

Rishi Sunak, his spouse wealthiest occupants of Downing Street in history
LONDON, Oct 27: The extraordinary wealth of the wider family of Britain's superrich Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his billionaire heiress wife Akshata Murthy has been laid bare, the media reported.
With an estimated net fortune of 730 million pounds that includes multiple properties in Britain and the US, a string of business interests and even a fleet of cars including a 'high-spec' Range Rover, a 'top-of-therange' Lexus and a BMW, the Oxbridge former Goldman Sachs banker and his Stanford-educated spouse are by far the wealthiest occupants of Downing Street in the history. Indeed, Akshata Murthy is said to be

Getting married in Australia

!
Who can marry in Australia Parties to a marriage do not have to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia to legally marry in Australia. It is recommended that foreign nationals check with authorities in their own countries prior to entering into a marriage in Australia. Some overseas countries do not recognise a marriage ceremony conducted in Australia as valid, unless other requirements, such as the prior granting of permission from that country’s embassy, are fulfilled. This can have implications for foreign nationals who intend to return to their country following a marriage. In cases where a marriage involves an Australian citizen and a foreign citizen, it is recommended that parties obtain advice about immigration issues from the Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration agent. To be legally married in Australia, a person must not be married to someone else;

Mother of All Diwali’s Melbourne's weather could not dampen the spirit of Diwali where thousands gathered to celebrate the Victorian Festival of Lights, Diwali @ Fed Square organised by Celebrate India in its seventeenth year.
T
here is no secret to Melbourne having her own mind regarding weather, which exactly happened during the Celebrate India Diwali festival last Saturday, 29th October, at Fed Square. Returning after two years of the pandemic, 'Pink Diwali', in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The festival's theme this year, marked a five-day celebration- 25th - 29th October 2022 in Melbourne. The weather did not dampen 24- 28K people's spirits from coming and enjoying the festivities of dance, colour and light. With food stalls, an opening of the Pink Diwali Pavilion to write Diwali wishes and take a photo to share on Celebrate India's page, there were fun facts for children, lots
of dance performances, magic shows, craft workshops, henna art, yoga and meditation, and even saree dhoti-wearing competitions. Sway Dance group got the punters screaming for more when they swayed, dancing in poles on the Bollywood song Galla Gudiya; the acrobats had the fun protocol set from the go. So, we at G'day India had the pleasure of being part of the festivities, but it also gave us a sense of belonging to a home away from home. It's the 17th year for Celebrate India; under the leadership of Arun Sharma, the festival initially started to facilitate a better understanding of the Indian culture among the broader Australian community through celebrating festivals.

The official Diwali program was launched on 25th October by the Yarra River, and on Wednesday, 26th October, live music and dance performances at the Bourke Street Mall. The festival kicked off with a photo exhibition - 'INDIA thru the Lens", at the Atrium at Fed Square. The idea behind the collection is to gain some community engagement. They received 350 photographs from the community, and the selected images were displayed, capturing the varied colours of Indian diversity. On Thursday, 27th October brought the city to 'The Edge, Fed Square, for a Diwali Concert, ' Geeton ki Shaam Diwali ke Naam.' On Friday, 28th October Film 'Guru' was screened at Fed Square, sponsored but

Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece "It may be damp in the air, but our spirits are warm with the spirit of Diwali. This superb celebration has grown every year, now in its 17th year, after two years of us not being able to celebrate fulsomely, we are back and making the absolute most of it.
Returning to Saturday, 29th October, the rain continued into the evening, but that didn't stop the cultural programme and sparkles from lighting up the stage. Hon'ble minister for multicultural Affairs Ross Spence, representing the premier Daniel Andrews was gifted a shawl, others including opposition leader Mathew Guy, Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece for the City of Melbourne, and Council General of India, Melbourne Dr Sushil Kumar were all presented with garlands and looked stunning with their pink turbans. Other dignitaries present at the festival were former premier, Ted Baillieu, Hon'ble minister of Women affair, Natalie Hutchins, Multicultural commission chairperson Viv Nguyen and representing the chief commissioner of police, Inspector Gary West.

And has it been a wonderful week at it to the Indians everywhere this week? First, we have the Diwali festival and Rishi Sunak, becoming the first Hindu Prime Minister. And then, it couldn't get any better, India beat Pakistan. And it happened right here in Melbourne. First of all, we had nearly 100,000 people making more noise than has ever been I'm proud to live in Victoria, where Diwali is not only celebrated by some groups and communities but it's embraced and celebrated by people right across our state. And that's demonstrated by the absolute 1000s of guests that have come and participated in the celebration here today. Celebrate India, Arun Sharma and the team that first initiated this event and put all of the Diwali festivals that they have been able to undertake to give us this Pink Diwali. In support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. What a terrific initiative. I would say most of us know someone that's been touched by cancer. And for many of us, that is breast cancer. This is a significant cause. Heartfelt thank you for your time, commitment, and energy in delivering this truly incredible event."
Festival Director Arun Sharma, in his moving speech, talked about how the pandemic has taught us to appreciate our close ones. "In Sanskrit, the Deepawali means row of lamps. Many of you know that. It's effortless. Every year we try to make an effort and bring something related to our community's welfare, which is affecting our community at large this year. We are trying to make everybody aware and raise some funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation because they're doing a great job trying to research and find the cure for it." Arun Sharma's tenure as the festival director of Celebrate India after 17 years couldn't end at an appropriate time with Pink Diwali, and he has complete trust in his hard-working team to deliver unique Diwali celebrations in the future. Representing the premier, Minister of Multicultural Affairs, Hon'ble Ross Spence, said, " I am so happy to be able to join you to celebrate the Victorian festival of Diwali, and it is terrific to see this festival back here at Fed Square after two years of virtual celebrations.

I have been in Melbourne for three months and have attended many sociocultural events organized by members of the Indian diaspora. I am happy that our community in Victoria continues to enrich this place with religious and cultural traditions. It is heartening to know that not only Indian diaspora is so culturally active here, but the Australian community in Victoria also enjoys Indian culture."
Wasn't it wonderful to see all those people in their royal blue jerseys? And people in green jerseys embracing each other and getting photographed together. I want to shout out to Arun and Jaya for their extraordinary efforts. They have been such great champions to the Indian community, such great advocates of Melbourne. On behalf of the City of Melbourne, I congratulate you all in the city so proud to support this festival.” The Crowd went into a frenzy when Festival Director Arun Sharma cut in between the speeches and proposed to the Victorian government to consider a holiday for Diwali from next year. BMW iX xDrive50 Review BY AMANDEEP SETHI
I
f you are like me, or anyone else with petrol practically pumping through their veins, the rise of electric vehicles has been a hard pill to swallow. Where is the sound, the drama? With BMW announcing their goal of 50% total electric vehicle sales by 2030, it would be easy to think that the glory days of BMW are behind us. But, the BMW iX xDrive50 has opened my eyes to a future that might not be so bleak. The BMW iX xDrive50 is aimed at the market segment currently buying the X5. The iX is comparable in size to BMW’s best-selling midsized SUV but has an electrifying twist. Outside of the size similarities, the iX takes styling to a new height. While the big grilles and sharp angles might not be for everyone, the iX will almost certainly age well. It’s very hard to ignore the iX’s quirks. From its hexagonal steering wheel to its inset door handles and sustainable leather seats, the iX feels like BMW is experimenting and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. BMW has been stepping up their interior game in recent years, but the iX feels special. Everything feels premium and current, with the exception of the out-of-place finger inserts in the doors which detract from the surroundings a bit. The iX comes equipped with everything that you’d expect from a $169,900 BMW. The curved 14.5” display is the centerpiece, running the newest iDrive 8 software. The full-size wireless charging pad is essentially required at this point but still nice to have. It seems like there is nearly endless storage in the cabin, with ample door storage and a massive centre console. To sum up, the iX cabin is a good place to be, unless you’re in the back seat and want some air, cause the rear windows only roll halfway down. Then there’s the iX’s performance. The dual synchronous AC electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear, blast the iX xDrive50 from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds while still delivering up to 620 km of electric range. In raw numbers, the iX xDrive50 makes 385kW and 765Nm of silent power. The balance between performance and practicality is a defining characteristic of the iX and a large reason why it is receiving rave reviews so far. Quite a few electric cars feel sterile and lack character, a symptom that the iX has avoided by optimizing chassis characteristics. The iX xDrive50 uses a modified version of BMW’s previously developed Cluster Architecture platform, utilizing an aluminum frame and carbon fibre composite body. The lightweight body works to offset the heavy electric
powertrain, improving handling characteristics overall. Even with the light body, the iX is still a heavy car, weighing in at 2510kg. Steering and suspension are really dialed in on the iX xDrive50 which certainly compensates for the weight. Our test vehicle was equipped with the optional Adaptive 2-Axle Air Suspension with electronically controlled shocks that automatically level the iX across uneven surfaces. The air suspension can also be manually adjusted to lower the iX xDrive50 by just over 3 centimeters. Integral Active Steering introduces rear-wheel steering to the iX, making it feel much more maneuverable and responsive than its size suggests. Despite being all-wheel-drive equipped, power delivery is rear-wheel biased, adding a bit of excitement to taking corners quickly. While it is all well and good that the iX xDrive50 is a fun car to drive, that is only half of the equation. The other half is the consideration of practicality and usability. And, being an electric car, a large part of that involves the electric powertrain. The iX xDrive50’s claimed 620km range is impressive, beating out the range of the Tesla Model Y by a significant amount. The extreme range is due to the iX’s large 112kWh
www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383
battery which has a maximum charging rate of 200kWh. Those figures give way to some rather poor charging times, especially when it comes to charging the iX via a wall outlet. BMW claims that it will take around 11 hours to charge the iX fully using an 11kW AC wall box system. Charge times are significantly reduced when paired with a fast charging station. When plugged into a Chargefox fast charging station (of which BMW provides a free 5-year unlimited charging subscription with the iX), the iX can be charged from 0-100 percent charge in 35 minutes. As charging technology begins to catch up to the battery tech, those numbers are bound to decrease. At $169,900, you would expect the BMW iX xDrive50 to deliver solid performance, impressive range and charging capabilities, and provide the luxurious all-around experience that BMW has been known for up to this point. The good news is that it checks nearly every box. While there are a few areas where the iX can be improved, the pros largely outweigh the cons when it comes to the iX xDrive50.

Ransomware/Extortion Payments – breach of digital data
BY GURPAL SINGH
O
ptus, Medibank and others sent stark shocks to the Australian community regarding the safety and protection of their electronic data. It is imperative that the issue of data breach will invariably affect every in one way or another. Interestingly the payment of ransomware strictly is not illegal. However, the complex web of the law and sharply articulated insurance policies fails to protect the consumer. The government advises companies not to indulge in ransomware to secure the stolen data; however, fails to provide the proper support and structure to protect digital assets. The obligation to ensure that the digital assets are protected falls on the company with no direct sensitivity of the government in this regard. The companies and businesses in Commonwealth must not collect personal information or consumer data unless the information is necessary for the business activities or functions. Its obligatory for businesses and organisations to ensure that information is up-to-date and protected. Australian privacy rights across the federal, state and territory laws are governed by the Federal Privacy Act 1988 and the privacy principles apply to companies in Australia with an annual turnover of more than $ 3 million and some other businesses such as health service providers and credit reporting bodies. The law requires both public and private companies to notify the data breach to affected people and the Office of Australian Information Commissioner in the event when the data breach involving personal information is likely to result in serious harm. The current regulatory landscape includes the privacy act, security of Critical Infrastructure Act which provides for notification obligations, risk management plan and government directions and intervention powers. Additionally, the industry specific requirements are contained in APRA prudential requirements; My Health Records Act 2012; Consumer Data Right; ASIC Market Integrity Rules and Telecommunication Act 1997. Section 180 of the Corporations Act also imposes duty of care and diligence upon the corporations and the people at the helm of affairs. The organisations and the companies
should conduct due diligence on potential ransomware/extortion payments. In the event a company receives a demand for ransomware, it requires to conduct the due diligence and reach a conclusion as if the actions of the corporation to pay the ransomware is legal, practical, and ethical? The due diligence seeks to make an assessment of legal factors including identifying (a) the Threat Actors – the techniques, tools and codes used to and tied to known threat groups or entities; (b) assessment of payment methods and receiving party (the wallet); (c) the identification of legal obligations; (d) reporting and notification obligations. The second aspect is of practical factors in the sense (a) how to negotiate with the ransomware actor; (b) business expectations, needs and consequential losses; (c) likelihood if the payment will end the extortion threat e.g., the reliability and capability of threat actor; (d) necessary external and internal signoffs; (e) capacity of the corporation or an entity to make such a payment; The third aspect is of ethical factors needs to be considered (a) if the payment sustains the ransomware actors business model; (b) growing extent of government and peak body guidance not to pay ransoms; (c) internal policies and preferred behaviour; (d) reputational risks and harms to impacted data subjects. The other factors include (a) the interplay with insurance policy, and the insurance
coverage issues; (b) engagement with the employees, customers and other stakeholders; (c) engagement of the directors and the board members; (d) engagement of the law enforcement agencies in the process. An interesting question on the construction of electronic and computer policy had arisen in respect of the interpretation of the insurance term ‘direct financial loss’ resulting from ransomware attack in a Federal Court matter of Inchcape Australia very recently. Whether the ransomware paid was a direct financial loss and if the insurer was to indemnify the insured? Or if the term ‘direct financial loss’ was only confined to the cost of actually reproducing the damaged or destroyed electronic data, electronic media or electronic instruction? The claimant made a claimed indemnity for ‘ransomware attack’ on its computer system which encrypted its primary server, deleted the primary and offsite backups, deployed malicious software to laptops and desktop computers and copied data from a shared drive and published it on the dark web. This ransomware attack caused the claimant to incur and continue to incur financial losses in repairing and/ or replacing hardware, software data, investigation costs, hardware and software costs, resources costs, data recovery costs etc. The court however, declined to support the cause of the claimant and held that such a cost is not covered under the insurance policy to be a direct financial loss.

Motivating yourself to get active again
BY ARCHITA BAWEJA
It’s 6 am, and Alisha’s alarm is ringing loud till she hits the snooze button for the third time that morning. The next time it rings, she finally switches the alarm off and goes back to sleep. Her cozy blanket is far more attractive than the exercise session she had planned to do in the morning. This has not happened with her only today but has been ongoing for the past few weeks. She works from home most weekdays and often gets up a few minutes before work hours, just enough to shower quickly and sit in front of her laptop. A snowball effect of all these things is that Alisha is gaining a lot of weight, most of it was contributed to the lockdown. Her immunity is also low, and she feels lazier and demotivated. Is this only Alisha’s story or have we all felt this? The last two years have been tough for everyone and exercise and physical activity have especially been ignored. Even though the gym has opened again and life seems to be getting back on track the motivation levels which we had before the pandemic haven’t returned. One of the major reasons is that the habit is lost and the routine has been disrupted. Alisha has reached out to a life coach who is helping her get active and back in routine. She has given her a few pointers to help her start this journey. These tips might be helpful
to anyone who wants to get a push in the right direction and get moving again. 1. Start Small: Start with simple goals and then eventually progress to long-term goals. Remember to make your goals realistic and achievable. It's easy to get frustrated and give up if your goals are too ambitious. For instance, in this case, Alisha was advised to exercise in the evening after work and go out for walks during lunch breaks. And eventually when she gets in a routine, she could do the same in the mornings too.
2. Join forces and find your tribe: Find a workout that makes you feel good and surround yourself with people that help build your confidence as much as your strength. What will ultimately inspire you to get up and start moving is a strong, supportive community. The laughs, high fives and words of encouragement from the bonds people make. 3. Add exercise to your routine: Rather than taking that elevator at work take the steps or instead of driving to work, take public transport and then walk from the train/tram to work. When possible, take a small break and go for a walk. This not only refreshes and energises you but also makes you active. 4. Mix it up and do what you enjoy: One workout plan can work temporarily, but it won’t work forever. To keep your motivation running at top speed, periodically change your workouts from gym to dance, Zumba and Pilates etc. It’s also smart to cycle through different fitness classes and modes of cardio and resistance training to see what you enjoy the most. 5. Where is my reward? When you reach a small-term goal, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a few minutes to savour the good feelings that exercise gives you, this will motivate you for your long-term goal. Once you reach that bigger goal, treat yourself to a new pair of jeans or that beautiful dress you always had your eyes on. Hope the points above inspire you to take that first step into getting back in shape and being healthier than ever.

6 MENTAL HEALTH TIPS FOR INDIAN MILLENNIALS THAT ACTUALLY WORK Indian millennials frequently experience stress and anxiety since they belong to a generation that is constantly rushing to finish their tasks and accomplish their objectives. Concentration issues, tiredness, alterations in sleep and food patterns, and feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness are among the common issues. Here’s a look at 6 practical suggestions for the mental wellness of Indian millennials. Disconnect from electronics and social media We must do the same when spending time with family and friends as we do when attending meetings at business by keeping our phones on silent mode. Constant usage of social media can result in negative emotions like melancholy, loneliness, jealousy, anxiety, and general life discontent. A digital detox entails cutting off from technology and social media. It is a time to unwind, partake in enjoyable pursuits, or spend time with loved ones. You can live in the now and engage in meaningful conversations with people by taking a social media sabbatical. By reducing distractions, promoting selfreflection, and even enhancing sleep, taking a break from technology provides you an opportunity to enjoy life. Be honest with yourself Honesty improves mental health. Before you can improve the situation, you must admit there’s a problem. Others are easier to fool, but you must always be honest with yourself and observant of your feelings. Identify your ideal and actual self. Before making tangible, doable adjustments, you must understand where your ideal self comes from. It’s as important to believe in oneself as it is, to be honest with oneself because confidence can do so much. Reflect and adapt Although it may appear that you have no control over the stress at work and at home, there are steps you can take to alleviate the strain and reclaim control. Effective stress management enables you to break stress’s grasp on your life, allowing you to become happier, healthier, and more productive. The ultimate objective is a balanced existence that includes time for work, relationships, relaxation, and enjoyment, as well as the fortitude to withstand pressure and face obstacles head-on. We can handle every new or different situation by reflecting on our
reactions to stress or other stimuli. While having a perfect work-life balance is a myth, it’s important to try new things and figure out what works best by adopting the most effective stress-management techniques. You are precious If you understand that every day is a gift, then you are living life seriously and know that you are precious. We occasionally lose sight of how fleeting life is and how priceless we are because of how busy we are. Only you know the difficulties you’ve faced, and your heart is aware of the amount of bravery you’ve displayed in each situation. Since you deserve to be loved and accepted, accept the precious you. In addition to preventing anxiety and depression, practicing self-love and knowing that you are precious is linked to an increase in pleasure, greater life satisfaction, and greater resiliency. Do not shy away from help It takes courage but is extremely helpful to ask for mental health treatment. We must comprehend the significance of instilling good help-seeking behaviour to create a more compassionate and fulfilling society. This is so because we must erase the stigma around mental health. Our general well-being and happiness can be significantly enhanced by seeking treatment, as well as our personal and professional lives. By asking for assistance,

one can avoid going through difficult times alone, acquire new coping mechanisms, develop relationships, and enhance your quality of life. Break lagalo Our way of life has taken on the character of the Rajdhani Express, and there is a great deal of pressure to outdo everyone. While maintaining a high level of performance is good, it’s also crucial to slow down. You are aware of what a Porsche with no breaks is capable of. So, unwind and take a break. Take that one day off to rest, and don’t feel bad about it. Shake a leg during the break because dancing and grooving might result in many changes. According to studies, moving causes the production of endorphins, or “happy hormones,” so if your mind is going round in circles, try shaking your leg. Also, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done since you are the only one who should be aware of and grateful for your efforts. One must seek professional help for counselling if they are still experiencing stress, demotivation, depression, procrastination, or the inability to act decisively at work, which hinders growth at the workplace. MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS One of the finest methods to better understand yourself and become the best version of yourself is through meditation. While meditating, you watch your thoughts without trying to fight them or make them go away. Focused concentration, a peaceful mind, clarity of feelings and thoughts, relaxation, rejuvenation, improved inner strength, and the capacity to maintain emotional equilibrium even in stressful conditions are just a few of the many advantages of this age-old practice. Studies have also indicated that meditation can help people with diseases like PTSD, fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome as well as depression and anxiety disorders. Even though there are several advantages to this practice, you can frequently find it to be challenging and tiresome, especially if you’re just starting out. Problems with ideas and restlessness are the main causes. It is crucial to realise that even the most seasoned yoga practitioners have these typical problems. You need a little bit of direction to maintain consistency and incorporate meditation into your everyday practice. Tips to Get Started with Your Meditation Practice: The profound technique of meditation involves ceasing all activity and letting go of all effort in order to unwind in one’s actual essence, which is serenity, joy, and love. Given that it helps you feel less stressed, more at ease, healthier, joyful, and pain-free, it is more of a necessity than a luxury in today’s world. So, if you want to start meditating, here are some helpful pointers to keep you motivated and help you live a happy, stress-free life. Don’t Set Any Expectations You must understand that meditation isn’t a quick fix to all your life’s problems. It’ll take effort and time to reap the actual benefits from the
practice. Initially, you’ll find it hard to keep out your thoughts and quieten your mind. However, the idea is to stop resisting your thoughts and embrace them as they come. You may notice things occurring around you, different types of sensations in the body, or possibly judging others or yourself. These are natural responses similar to breathing. When such things happen, notice the thoughts and then take a moment to pause. It’s not required to get your attention back to your breath immediately. Instead, let go of what was distracting you and reopen your attention. Then, slowly bring the attention back to your breath and land again. Find an Appropriate Time As a beginner, you might feel that there must be a specific time to meditate to gain its benefits. However, it’s not. The ideal time for meditation is when you can make it work. If you try to meditate at a time that coincides with your
responsibilities and schedule, you’ll end up feeling unmotivated and frustrated. Instead, it’s always a good idea to choose a time that feels the best for you. But, whatever time you choose, try to stick to it and make it a part of your daily routine. Be Comfortable Sitting still for meditation is an issue with most beginners. Since you are not accustomed to sitting still, restlessness can arise, making it hard for you to meditate. You need to be aware of the fact that the body requires time to feel at rest and settle down. Therefore, it is important to continue with your practice, focussing on your breath for the entire time. Also another thing to consider is to maintain a comfortable position at all times to meditate successfully. While you may have seen people meditating in the lotus position, it’s not necessary that you should do the same. It would be best if you got into a position you can hold for long to continue your practice. Keep Your Practice Going Nothing comes easy in this world. Instead of looking for causes why you cannot keep up with the practice, keep an open mind and explore the difficulties with curiosity. Practicing curiosity and acceptance within meditation can help you translate such feelings easily to daily life. Over time, it will also help you to cultivate awareness during meditation practice. The practice of meditation can be done in any method. You can achieve success in your practice by meditating in the way that suits you the most. So, without holding back, keep experimenting with different strategies until you discover the one that works for you. You’ll know it’s working when you start to experience more joy, peace, compassion, and love. By Dr Deepak Mittal (Founder, Divine Soul Yoga)

FEEL BEAUTIFUL INSIDE OUT Nothing is more significant or exciting than selecting the ideal clothing for the holiday season. Additionally, choosing the right shapewear to go with your particular outfit and give you the ideal shape is just as important as choosing the right outfit. Wearing cozy shapewear is a need for a confident look whether you opt for a sari, lehenga, Anarkali, or kurta combo. “Shapewear is designed to hug your body tightly and contour your body into a more proportioned shape. It will make you feel more confident when wearing your favorite piece of clothing,” says Pooja Merani, COO-Wacoal. Benefits: Appearance: There are primary areas that are addressed by body-shaping lingerie: the bust, waist, hips, and thighs. One big benefit of wearing shapewear is that you instantly get that feminine silhouette without having to lose weight or see a cosmetic surgeon. Improves posture: The elastic nature of shapewear provides compression and encourages you to stand with your back straighter and firmer. The support also alleviates pain, particularly in the lumbar area and the lower back. Builds Confidence: Shapewear can change your outward appearance, it can change your attitude towards weight loss as well. Most women who wear shapewear are encouraged to retain a healthy and active lifestyle. Sporting curves and managing to slip into that slinky
dress also gives you a boost in self-esteem and confidence to wear your desired clothes. Age Halt: Shapewear can aid the body as it undergoes the aging process; and can support symptoms such as humpback, pail waist, fat buttock, flat hip, bulky leg, turnip leg, etc. Lose Inches Instantly: Women who have toiled for hours to reduce their waistline often experience muffin tops even though they are in good shape. Due to the cut of today’s trendy clothes, when wearing low-rise jeans and fitted tops, shapewear can fix this problem. The greatest time to make a shapewear purchase is now if you genuinely enjoy wearing
bodycon dresses and other fitting clothing. Types: Thigh Shapewear: This hi-waist shaper lifts your rear, controls your tummy, defines your waist, and virtually disappears under clothes, making it the perfect foundation for any outfit you build on top. Camisoles work: To hide the muffin top and love handles. They are definitely more comfortable than full-body suits. They completely smooth out your upper body and even manage to hide those awful bra bulges. They are great to wear with trousers, jeans, or a skirt. Bust Shapewear: As the name suggests, bust shapewear shapes the bust area and enhances it. Bust shapewear lifts the breasts, gives them a more firm look, and also works better than your regular push-up bra. High Waist Shapewear: High waist shapewear panties are gaining popularity, thanks to their ability to give a firm look as they effectively tighten the stomach and waist regions to give shape. They can also help in regaining your prepregnancy posture and shape. Long-time use of high shapewear strengthens the abdominal muscles, which can help the internal organs pull back and return to their normal position. High Waist Tummy Tucker: Tummy bulge is one of the hardest things to control. We often try to hide it behind our loose-fitted tops and dresses. Tummy tuckers can help to flatten your tummy as well as love handles and give you a smooth and slimmer look under fitted dresses and tops. Bodysuits: They are full-body suits with a chest cut out. They look somewhat like a swimsuit but are majorly different. You get an overall smoothing effect as they help in smoothing out the stomach, hide the bulges, lift your bosom area and also make your bum look great. They can be worn under any clothing item from casual wear to a traditional or festive outfit.

CHRONIC BACK PAIN?
Back pain today and especially lower back pain have become a chronic ailment in India. The disease is no longer limited to the elderly but is also increasing among the youth. Long working hours along with a sedentary lifestyle is putting too much strain on our spinal discs and back muscles and has highlighted the need for us to take steps and prevent any long-term complications. Several reasons like sports injuries, excessive stress over flexible joints and congenital spinal problems can cause chronic back pain among children and teenagers. Additionally, substance abuse too can cause adolescents to experience back pain. According to several recent studies, it has been found that adolescents who smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol and are suffering from mental health conditions like depression and anxiety are likely to suffer from back pain more frequently. For instance, 14-15-year-olds who consume alcohol and smoke tobacco experience back pain more than once a week than those who rarely or never had pain.
Therefore, on this world spine day, we share a few tips that can help you maintain spinal health and can prevent back pain.
Maintain a good posture People who work long hours on their computers usually slouch a lot which puts pressure on their back muscles, spine and neck and causes pain. Similarly, the ones who are on their mobile phones, often lie on their stomachs with their necks arched upwards which can lead to spine damage. Hence, maintaining an upright posture in alignment with the neck and the lower back and following the correct desktop monitor or laptop level can prevent damage to their spines.
Taking short breaks Taking short and frequent breaks can help in reducing both work-related mental stress, as well as the physical stress on our spines. Sitting in one position for extended hours is unhealthy and can worsen back pain. Thus, movement while working for longer periods is recommended as it can This combination of back pain along with strengthen the muscles and nerves. unhealthy habits also creates long-term complications in adulthood. The use of Exercise toxic substances in early adolescence Our sedentary jobs weaken our trunk, increases the risk of substance abuse core and lumbar muscles, and spine and and mental health problems in adulthood cause back pain. Exercises like partial and makes the developing brain more crunches, bridge, susceptible to the negative influences hamstring of these substances which also has consequences on our spine. Chronically poor posture during adolescence in rare cases can stretch the ligaments and can give rise to curved or slightly humped back called kyphosis. In a few cases, back pain can also indicate the emergence of unrelated problems to the spine such as Kidney problems that can cause lower back pain problems on either side of the spine. In certain rare cases, back pain can also be caused by a tumour.
stretches, knee-to-chest, cat stretch, and shoulder and neck rolls can help restore the fluidity of our muscles, joints, and spinal discs and can alleviate the pain. Regular brisk walking too

is an easy-to-do and effective way to relieve back and spine pain. Walking and exercising can also help in reducing weight, increasing blood flow to the muscles of the spine and raising the oxygen and nutrient levels in the blood which rejuvenates the muscles and relieves pain. Adopting a balanced diet Avoid fatty foods and consuming plenty of water can also help you avoid back and spine problems. Consuming low-fat, calcium and protein-rich diets that are filled with essential minerals can help you in keeping your weight in check and can reduce the overall pressure on your spine. Our spine is a marvel of engineering that consists of a series of vertebrae which extend from the skull to the small back, enclosing the spinal cord and providing support for our thorax and abdomen. It comprises basic structures such as vertebrae, disks, cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine and coccyx which are held erect to provide balance to our body. Living in constant pain for a longer period can have a debilitating impact on the quality of life for many patients. Even the simple daily chores will seem like a huge task When the pain becomes persistent even after months of conventional treatments. So, let us pledge this world spine day, that we will take care of our spine and take steps that can help us in leading a healthy life. By Dr. Umesh Srikantha

According to Khaleej Times, Chinese technology and electric vehicle manufacturer - Xpeng, tested the world’s first flying electric taxi. To make people’s lives easier, the firm gave a glimpse of what the future could look like with the car. After taking off from Skydive Dubai, the X2 flying car completed its test flight, ushering in a brand-new thrilling era of short-haul trips and intelligent mobility solutions. Khaleej Times reports that the autonomous two-seater flying car has a maximum take-off weight of 760 kg, a 560 kg empty weight, and a 130 km/h top flight speed. It has a 35-minute flight time and is made of premium carbon fibre and is fitted with an airframe parachute. The car can carry two passengers at a time. Well, this is not the first flying car made, many were made prior to this, however, only a handful have been
successfully tested with passengers on board. The most recent version of flying cars is the futuristic electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL), which has autonomous flight capabilities and an intelligent flight control system. The X2 is built for low-altitude cities and produces no carbon dioxide. According to Khaleej Times, flying cars could be available for commercial use in the next two to three years.
Executive director for international offices at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Omar Abdulaziz Al Khan was cited by the publication as saying: “It depends on how fast we can adapt the framework of commercialized urban flying. There will be more tests happening in Dubai, and then it will be commercialized,” he said adding that in his opinion, it can be used commercially in Dubai within the next two to three years. (ANI)
NASA SET TO BREAK SOUND BARRIER AGAIN FOR FUTURE AIR TRAVEL NASA aeronautical innovators are poised to break the sound barrier again, this time in a very different way that could make it possible for all of us to one day travel by air just as fast as any of the X-1 pilots who flew supersonic.
another historic milestone in flight, potentially opening a new era in air travel, where airline passengers might hop on a supersonic jet at breakfast time in Los Angeles to make a lunch-time reservation in New York City,” it added.
NASA’s X-59, the centerpiece of the agency’s Quesst mission, will enable commercial supersonic travel over land.
Seventy-five years ago, a sonic boom thundered for the first time over the high desert of California, when the thunder came from the Bell X-1 rocket plane flying faster than the speed of sound.
Lockheed Martin has designed, built and conducted initial flight tests with the aircraft and the first flight is targeted for 2023. “That first supersonic flight was such a tremendous achievement, and now you look at how far we’ve come since then. What we’re doing now is the culmination of so much of their work,” said Catherine Bahm, an aeronautical engineer at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in California. Through Quesst, NASA plans to demonstrate the X-59 can fly faster than sound without generating the typically loud
sonic booms that led to supersonic flight over land being banned in 1973. The plan includes flying the X-59 over several communities to survey how people react to the quieter sonic “thump” it produces - if they hear anything at all. “Their responses will be shared with regulators who will then consider writing new rules to lift the ban,” said NASA. “And when that happens it will mark

Strict parenting may hard-wire depression risk into child’s DNA
Parents, take note. If you are very strict with your child, then you need to stop, as a new study has found that tough parenting can alter how the body reads the DNA of these children. The study, presented at ECNP Congress in Vienna, indicated that these changes could effectively become “hard-wired” to the DNA of those children who perceive their parents as harsh, increasing their biological risk for depression in adolescence and later life.
“We discovered that perceived harsh parenting, with physical punishment and psychological manipulation, can introduce an additional set of instructions on how a gene is read to become hard-wired into DNA,” said researcher Evelien Van Assche, now working at the University of Munster. “We have some indications that these changes themselves can predispose the growing child to depression. This does not happen to the same extent if the children have had a supportive upbringing,” Assche added. For the study, the team selected 21 adolescents who reported good parenting and compared them with 23 adolescents who reported harsh parenting.
All adolescents were between 12 and 16 years old, with a mean of 14 years for both groups. For both groups, 11 adolescents were boys meaning that the two groups were comparable, with a similar age and a similar boy-girl distribution. Many who had experienced harsh parenting showed initial, sub-clinical signs of depression. The researchers then measured the range of methylation at more than 450,000 places in the DNA of each subject and found that this was
significantly increased in those who reported a harsh upbringing. Methylation is a normal process that occurs when a small chemical molecule is added to the DNA, changing how the instructions written in your DNA are read: for example, methylation may increase or decrease the amount of an enzyme produced by a gene. Increased variation in methylation is known to be associated with depression. (IANS)

The study showed that using existing smartphone applications to monitor cell phone screen time can enhance focused or mindful cell phone usage, leading to higher perceived productivity and user satisfaction.
When the results were analysed, researchers measured the perceived productivity of screen time reported by those surveyed, the amount of screen time and the fatigue associated with selfmonitoring.
“We theorised that individuals who tracked their cell phone usage and set goals surrounding that usage tended to have enhanced productivity and contentment with their productivity as they met their stated objectives,” said researcher Kaveh Abhari from the San Diego State University. “Previous research has shown that goal setting tends to raise performance

For the study, published in the journal AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (THCI), the researchers surveyed 469 participating university undergraduate students in California, New York, and Hawaii. The three-week survey required all participants to complete four questionnaires and about half of them

Is it safe to fast in pregnancy? An important question which needs to be addressed is should one fast if you are pregnant. Answering this, Shwetha Vijan, Senior Health Coach at Mylo, an ITC-backed leading full-stack platform for new and expecting mothers, says, “Pregnancy is a very vulnerable state. The answer to “can you fast” depends on your pregnancy stage. If you fall under the first and the early second trimester, fasting can be taken up but only after your doctor’s suggestion and recommendations. Rather than taking up the traditional way of fasting, include an early morning balanced meal with good sources of protein and yes, do have some coconut water along with your meals. Also, try including some portions of fruit to keep hyperacidity at bay.” “If you’re in the third trimester, the recommendation is not to take up the fast, as, during this trimester, the baby requires your nutritional support more than the first two trimesters,” Shwetha Vijan adds. You are nourishing not only your body when pregnant, but also that of your unborn child. Your infant will fast if you do. Your blood sugar levels may rise during a fast without food or water, and you could become lightheaded. Fasting on any day is strongly discouraged if you have any pregnancy issues, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, among others as this puts both you and your unborn child in grave danger. While doctors do not recommend staying empty stomach during pregnancy, if you are still adamant about keeping the fast, here are some tips to help you. Take permission from your doctor You have responsibility for yourself and your child’s health and well-being during your pregnancy. Anything that you consume or don’t consume can have direct consequences on your baby. Thus, before you decide to fast for the long life of your husband, make sure you visit your doctor and evaluate whether it’s a viable option for you. Avoid physical activities
Rest is essential for women if they want their babies to be healthy and wish to avoid nausea, discomfort, and swelling during pregnancy. If you are keeping a fast, you should completely refrain from any activity unless necessary during the day. Exhaustion can lead to high blood pressure and create other problems, too. If possible, eat fruit Eat fruit at decided intervals which will replenish your body with nutrients and you’ll still be keeping a fruit fast. Fruit provides fibres, folate, and vitamins, and hydrate your body. Eating fruit or even consuming them as smoothies will keep exhaustion at bay and you and your baby will feel full. Take vitamin supplements According to your doctor’s prescription, do not miss on folic acid and Vitamin D supplements to ensure that your and your baby’s body is nourished. These supplements provide the important nutrients that come from your meals which you will miss because

of the fast. During pregnancy, you must consult your doctor and consume any medicine only if it is prescribed. Instead of caffeine, have nuts and milk Tea or coffee are drinks that contain caffeine; you might think that it’s liquid and it’ll keep you hydrated but caffeine can increase heart rate and blood pressure, causing stress. Instead, you should have a few nuts every hour, and consume milk, or even coconut water every few hours to stay hydrated and avoid having an empty stomach. It will keep you and your baby in good shape while fasting. However, as a pregnant woman, you must prioritise the health of your unborn child. The first recommendation I would make to you is to completely skip fasting. Modify ceremonies to your current situation if you still wish to follow the custom. By Shwetha Vijan

LONG-TERM EXPOSURE TO AIR POLLUTION MAKING WOMEN FATTER
Scientists are discovering several new ailments triggered by air pollution, and a new study suggests that air pollution is another factor that tips the scale in mid-life women’s weight, body mass index, waist circumference and body fat. Researchers from the University of Michigan in the US found that exposure to air pollution was linked with higher body fat, higher proportion fat and lower lean mass among midlife women. For instance, body fat increased by 4.5 per cent, or about 2.6 pounds, according to the study published in the journal Diabetes Care. “Women in their late 40s and early 50s exposed long-term to air pollution” specifically, higher levels of fine particles, nitrogen dioxide and ozone a” saw increases in their body size and composition measures,” said Xin Wang, epidemiology research investigator at the university’s School of Public Health. Data for the study came from 1,654 white, Black, Chinese,
and Japanese women from the ‘Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation’. These women, whose baseline median age was nearly 50 years, were tracked from 2000 to 2008. Researchers explored the interaction between air pollution and physical activity on body composition. High levels of physical activity was an effective way to mitigate and offset exposure to air pollution, the research showed. “Since the study focused on midlife women, the findings can’t be generalised to men or women in other age ranges,” Wang said. Obesity has been a major global health issue in recent decades as more people eat unhealthy diets and fail to exercise regularly.

The Pros and Cons of Using General Anaesthesia for Sleep Dentistry
S
leep dentistry answers the need for anxious patients to help them stay calm during dental procedures. A widely used form of sedation for the same is general anaesthesia. Many patients have benefited by using it for getting dental problems solved. Are you planning to go for it too? Well, this article has found you at the right time then. It might be beneficial to weigh all your options before you go under the knife. Let us quickly have a look at the pros and cons of using general anaesthesia for sleep dentistry. PROS 1. Easy to operate General anaesthesia makes the patient completely unconscious. They cannot move by will. This gives dentists the room they much required to operate on patients’ teeth, which must have been difficult had the patient being conscious. Some patients such as children, people with nervous system issues, and anxious people cannot lay still on the dentist’s chair. General anaesthesia makes it an easy experience for both patient and dentist. 2. Amnesia A person under the effect of general anaesthesia may experience amnesia, that is a complete loss of memory for the duration of their dental procedure. Many patients who suffer from past bad experience memories and dental anxiety or phobia might prefer this feature. As the general anaesthesia is the deepest form of sedation, the patients do not have any painful memories of the dental treatment they undergo. 3. Rapid onset General anaesthesia is also preferred for its rapid onset. The time taken for the effects to show is less compared to other sedatives. This is helpful in cases where a quick dental work is required. It is also helpful when a person has met with an accident and has other injuries to be treated too. A lot of time can be saved. 4. Suitable for the majority of patients Sedation dentistry using general anaesthesia is largely suitable for patients with special needs. For example, people who cannot stop involuntary movements due to central nervous system condition, children who find it difficult to keep their mouths open or to stay steady for long durations, wisdom teeth removals, major dental treatments, etc. General anaesthesia sets all these issues aside and helps the patient have the dental care they need. CONS 1. Advanced training is
www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383
required Not every medical professional can administer anaesthesia. A physician or dentist who wishes to administer general anaesthesia must have to complete a professional full-time training in anesthesiology. It requires absolute precision and knowledge to be able to administer general anaesthesia to patients. 2. A trained team is required Along with the training for the anaesthetist, a competent team of anaesthesia assistant and a circulating nurse is required for the administration of anaesthesia at a hospital or dental clinic. If you are planning to undergo sleep dentistry, check if the dentist has the required personnel in his team. 3. Need for proper equipment and facilities When sedated with general anaesthesia, monitoring the unconscious patient becomes necessary. A hospital or dental clinic must have all the equipment needed to perform dental surgery along with monitoring the state of the patient. It takes time to wear off. Patients also require a recovery room wherein to recover after the dental surgery for a short while. 4. Limiting conditions Although being best for many patients, general anaesthesia is not meant for many others. The state and reaction to sedation may vary from person to person. You need to make sure you are the right candidate before proceeding with sleep dentistry by sharing your medical history with the dentist. At Healthy Smiles, we treat each patient carefully and ascertain their candidature for sedation dentistry by carrying out extensive research on their medical history. Also, we have the most advanced and efficient equipment, qualified and practising anaesthetist, and a whole team of experienced professionals to help carry out a general anaesthetic sleep dentistry procedure. Mediterranean diet improves immunotherapy response rates Eating a Mediterranean diet, rich in fibre, mono-unsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols, has been associated with improved immunotherapy response rates and progression-free survival in advanced melanoma patients, says a new report. The study, presented at UEG Week 2022, has found that diet plays an important role in the success of immunotherapy and trials are being expanded to investigate outcomes for different tumour types, including digestive cancers. “Our study underlines the importance of dietary assessment in cancer patients starting ICI treatment and supports a role for dietary strategies to improve patient outcomes and survival,” said researcher Laura Bolte from the University Medical Center Groningen, Netherlands. For the study, the team recorded the dietary intake of 91 patients with advanced melanoma, who were treated with ICI drugs and monitored their progress with regular radiographic response check-ups. As well as having a significant association with overall response rate, a Mediterranean
diet was significantly associated with progression-free survival at 12 months. The study also found that eating whole grains and legumes reduced the likelihood of developing drug-induced immune-related side effects, such as colitis. In contrast, red and processed meat was associated with a higher probability of immune-related side effects. (IANS)

levels of estrogens (estradiol, estrone) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and whether this association is affected by sleep duration.
The study, to be presented during The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, suggests that they may also be linked with lower concentrations of sex hormones in midlife women -- especially women with shorter sleep.
The researchers found that women with a history of trauma had lower levels of estrogens, including estradiol and estrone than women without such history. There was no relationship between trauma and FSH levels. Findings were not accounted for by depressive or posttraumatic stress symptoms, vasomotor symptoms, or how long a woman had been post-menopausal.
“This work highlights the importance of trauma in relation to health at midlife, particularly given the sensitivity of women’s health to hormones,” says lead author Mary Carson from the University of Pittsburgh. Previous research has shown that psychological trauma can potentially suppress ovarian function and reduce ovarian estrogen secretion. However, the relationship between trauma and sex hormones in midlife women
remains largely unknown. For this study, the team involved 260 postmenopausal women. It evaluated whether traumatic experiences are associated with

RANBIR PRACTISED IDO PORTAL FITNESS METHOD FOR HIS ‘BRAHMASTRA’ CHARACTER
KOLKATA HAS ALWAYS HAD A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART:
ANUSHKA SHARMA Actress Anushka Sharma is currently shooting for ‘Chakda Xpress’ in Kolkata and several parts of West Bengal that is significant in Jhulan Goswami’s journey to reach the summit of global glory. She reveals how the City of Joy has always had a significant place in her heart.
Ranbir Kapoor has admitted that his role of Shiva in the mythological adventure film ‘Brahmastra’ was very complex to put into action and it took a lot for him to give a definite shape to the character. With the film scheduled to drop on OTT after its successful theatrical run, Ranbir said: “Shiva was a very complex character on paper. And we had to do a lot of prep to bring him to life. The way he walks, runs, fights, dances - almost every aspect of his physicality that involves movement- had to be designed.” He further spoke about practising the Ido Portal Method, a form of a physical fitness practice utilising the practitioner’s own bodyweight and movements, rather than external weights and machines, to develop strength, agility and flexibility. Ranbir explained: “Shiva’s relationship with fire needed to be graphed - both emotionally and physically. I trained a lot and did many workshops with Ayan and a few specialists, including Ido Portal, which helped me with that graphing. And it finally translated into the character and journey you see on screen.” (AGENCIES)
“Kolkata has always had a very special place in my heart. The warmth of the city and the people, the delicious food, the beautiful architecture - I love everything about Kolkata and it is a pleasure to be back in the city of joy for Chakda Xpress,” she says. “The last time I shot a film here was for Pari and I have several fond memories from shooting that project here. I had also shot the announcement video of ‘Chakda Xpress’ at the Eden Gardens and Jhulan had dropped by for the same. It was amazing to have her on the set and interact with her.” “She is such a positive soul. So, coming back here is like life coming to a full circle for me and the team.” The hugely mounted Netflix Film, which is tracing the glorious journey of one of the fastest female pacers in the history of world cricket, Jhulan, will showcase how the pacer moves up the ladder despite countless hindrances to fulfil her only dream: to play cricket. Anushka says, “We had a great shooting experience and made memories that will last a lifetime. Jhulan is an icon of India, as well as of West Bengal, and shooting the film in Kolkata and various parts of the state, is a fitting tribute to her legacy and her journey that started here.” Jhulan went on to captain the Indian women’s national cricket team and is a role model for aspiring cricketers in the country. ‘PATHAAN’ TEASER PROMISES THE RETURN OF SRK WITH A BANG
The teaser of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘Pathaan’ was unveiled on the occasion of the superstar’s 57th birthday. The teaser laced with action, adrenaline boosting chase sequences see SRK in the role of an Indian spy, who refuses to give up and claws his way out of any given situation attributing to his survival instincts.
The teaser begins with a voice-over, presumably of Ashutosh Rana, introducing the titular character. It then spirals into full-blown action saga with SRK beating the baddies. Bollywood star Deepika Padukone also makes a stunning appearance in the teaser followed by John Abraham, whose character is introduced as he fires a grenade launcher. The film, directed by Sidharth Anand of ‘War’ fame, has all the elements of a classic Yash Raj Films action movie. The teaser features evident sequences which remind of the best YRF action films over the years, be it the aquatic chase sequence (Bang Bang), the acrobatics induced fight sequences (War), the bird eye view of cities (War and Fan) or the fight sequence atop a moving vehicle (Dhoom climax). And it also has dialogue from SRK, “Kursi
ki peti baandh lijiye, mausam bigadane waala hai” bearing an uncanny resemblance to exactly what Ranbir said in ‘Sanju’ teaser. Although it was not a YRF movie, SRK doing ‘Dunki’ with Rajkumar Hirani definitely has a poetic connection here. ‘Pathaan’ presents the story of an Indian spy who can get into any system or circle given his stealth and chameleon abilities to merge with
the world that he resides in. The film is the first of SRK’s three films after a hiatus of over four years for the actor. Earlier, he was seen in the 2018 movie ‘Zero’ which tanked badly at the box-office. ‘Pathaan’, produced by India’s premier studio conglomerate Yash Raj Films, will drop in theatres on January 25, 2023. SALMAN KHAN GIVEN Y-PLUS CATEGORY SECURITY FOLLOWING DEATH THREAT Bollywood star Salman Khan, who had previously applied for a weapon license for self-protection, will now be provided with Y+ category security by the Mumbai police as the actor is perceived to be under threat. The Maharashtra state government has taken this step after the actor received a threat letter from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang earlier. Just days after the death of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, Salman and his father Salim Khan received a death threat. Salim’s security team found the letter outside their Mumbai home near the Bandra Bandstand promenade, where he goes for his routine morning jog. After the threat letter, Salman submitted an application to the Mumbai Police seeking a weapon licence for his own protection. As per the information received from Maharashtra Home Department, the reason behind the Bishnoi gang threatening Salman Khan and his father was to create an atmosphere to show their power. Following the incident, the Maharashtra department of Home Affairs
increased the security for Salman. Last month, Delhi Police made a sensational revelation in the case pertaining to the alleged plot to kill Salman Khan. They said that the Lawrence Bishnoi

EXPERT TIPS ON CONTROLLING FOOD WASTE Food waste is defined as food that is not eaten at home and is afterward thrown out. Food that has been thrown away or that has passed its “use-by date” may be the cause of this. Food waste occurs during food production and processing in a variety of ways. A third of the food produced worldwide is reportedly wasted each year. Neelam Chauhan, a dietician of the NIIMS Department of Dietetics, explains ways to reduce food waste at home: Planning and Purchasing Meals Plan your meals and activities for the week based on the foods that need to be consumed. Use up the leftovers by preparing a second dinner. Prioritize using fresh food before using frozen or canned goods. Shop intelligently by first checking your cabinets, freezer, and refrigerator to see what you already have. Make a list before you go shopping. Only invest in what is required. Be careful not to be lured in by promotional materials for things you don’t need. Keeping food fresh Keep your refrigerator set to 5 degrees or less. Transparent containers are best for storing leftovers since they make it easier to see what you have.

Nutritional goals: • A reduction in the intake of carbohydrates (50–60% of total energy/ day) consisting of mostly less processed carbohydrates and low GI foods Examples: Primary sources of complex carbohydrates are cereals (whole wheat, brown rice, etc.), millets (pearl millet [bajra], finger millet [ragi], great millet [Jowar]), pulses (red gram [tur dal], green gram [sabut moong], etc.), and legumes (soya, horse gram [kulthi]) Low GI foods to be consumed most frequently (e.g., oats, unpolished rice, parboiled rice, whole pulses, beans, and legumes and some whole fruits should be preferred High GI foods (refined flour, root vegetables such as yam shakarkand, potato, tapioca, arbi, etc.) should be consumed in moderation • Higher intake of fibre (25–40 g/day) Examples: Minimum of four to five servings per day of vegetables and salads and two serves of fruits • Lower intake of saturated fats (less than 10% of total energy/day) • Lower intake of salt (5g/day for sodium chloride or 2g/day of sodium) Examples: Limit dietary sodium intake from processed foods and from sources such as: pickles, chutneys, namkeens, papads, bakery items, potato chips, popcorn, salty biscuits, preserved meat products, other pre-prepared and preserved foods, soups, cheese, and fast foods • Restricted sugar intake (less than 10% of total energy/day)
• Protein intake 1g/kg/day (10-15% of total energy/day) in sedentary to moderately active individuals • Alcohol recommendations are not defined; non-consumers to continue not consuming, and individuals who consume alcohol may continue to have moderate amounts as currently recommended (less than 10 standard drinks per week or no more than 4 per day maximum) • Water intake 1.5-2L (8-10 glasses per day), increased in hot climates Eating habits to try and include: • Include a healthy regular breakfast • Avoid deep frying foods • Consider cooking methods such as: roasting, grilling, boiling, steaming, broiling, sauté or poaching • Small, frequent meals at regular intervals (gaps between two meals to be 3-4 hours) • Choosing healthy snacks • Avoid sweetened carbohydrates drinks (opt for buttermilk/lassi, coconut water, fresh lime with water, etc.) • Reading food labels to determine sodium content • Include two or more types of oils to ensure an optimal intake of various fatty acids
• Minimise the use and intake of ghee and butter • Avoid partial hydrogenation use of vegetable oils • Partial replacement of animal foods with whole nuts such as pistachios and almonds • Moderate intake of animal foods containing high levels of fat, SFAs, and cholesterol • For non-vegetarians: consumption of 100–200 g of fish (four to six pieces)/week • Minimising the consumption of premixed, ready-to-eat, fast foods, bakery foods, and processed foods prepared in partial hydrogenation of vegetable oils like savoury (namkeen) • Choose low-fat dairy foods Incorporating this along with regular physical activity amounts of 30-60 minutes per day can assist in reducing your overall risk however you should always consult with your GP and Dietitian to give you individual advice and monitoring. Once, a Russian Jew was finally allowed to emigrate to Israel At Moscow airport customs found a Lenin statue in his baggage and asked, "What is this?" The man replied, "What is this! Wrong question comrade. You should have asked, 'Who is he?' This is Comrade Lenin - who laid the foundations of socialism and created the future and prosperity of the Russian people. I am taking it with me as a memory of our dear hero" The Russian customs officer let him go without further inspection. At Tel Aviv airport, the Israeli customs officer also asked him, "What is this" He replied, "What is this! wrong question, Sir. You should be asking - Who is this - This is Lenin, the bastard, who caused me, a Jew, to leave Russia. I take this statue with me so; I can curse him every day" The Israeli customs officer, "I apologize Sir, you are cleared to go" Settling into his new house, he put the statue on a table, and to celebrate his immigration, he invited his friends and relatives to dinner. One of his friends asked, "Who is this?" He replied, "My dear friend, 'Who is this' is a wrong question. You should have asked, 'What is this'. This is ten kilograms of solid gold that I managed to bring with me without paying any customs duty and tax" MORAL: Politics is when you can tell the same thing in different ways to fool different audience, and steal their money, and allow yourself to look good in every way possible.
