Export Success Brings Water to Indian Farms, Jobs to Shepparton MELBOURNE, Aug 1: Victorian irrigation innovator Rubicon Water is maximising water use on farms from the Murray Darling to India and beyond, driving jobs growth at its key Shepparton base with the support of the Andrews Labor Government. Founded in the Goulburn Valley, Rubicon Water has steadily expanded internationally with the Government’s trade agency Global Victoria helping to open doors for the company to establish operations in 17 countries. Minister for Trade Tim Pallas recently visited the manufacturer’s Shepparton manufacturing site, where jobs have grown by about 25 to support contracts for water and agricultural technology in the Indian state of Karnataka. The company generates around 70 per cent of its revenue from its growing international operations, with the total Victorian workforce topping 230 including 130 in Shepparton. In Karnataka, the Rubicon Water system manages the water supply to more than 400,000 hectares of farmland through 1,250 kilometres of canals. The result is a much more efficient and sustainable delivery of

water to farms in the agriculture-rich state – with some farms receiving canal water for the first time in decades. Rubicon Water’s automated irrigation systems use software, sensors and flow controllers to manage the supply of water, delivering water to farms in a controlled way. Rubicon has expanded its operations in the United States, Latin America, Europe, Central Asia, China and Africa and is exploring opportunities in the Middle East with assistance from the Victorian Government’s network of Trade and Investment offices. The company has just signed on to its first project in Rwanda and a pilot project is continuing in Sudan, while its first network automation project is underway in northern Italy.

Most of these international projects are supported by the company’s Shepperton manufacturing facility which produces gates and specialised flow measurement and control technology. Victoria’s network of 23 Trade and Investment offices is the largest of any Australian state and helps connect Victorian businesses with key international markets to achieve global success and grow local jobs.

Boosting Melbourne’s Tram Safety

MELBOURNE, Aug 2: Travelling on Melbourne’s iconic tram network and driving in the CBD will soon be faster and safer thanks to new separation kerbing being rolled-out along key routes to prevent dozens of crashes and near-misses each year. More than five kilometres of kerbing will be installed on Latrobe, Flinders, Swanston, Spring, Market and Spencer streets in Melbourne’s CBD, to reduce vehicle to tram collisions, incident-related service disruptions and improve safety for people travelling in trams and vehicles.

This latest round of separation kerbing follows the Andrews Labor Government’s highly successful first tranche installed on Collins, Bourke and Elizabeth streets last year, which reduced vehicle-to-tram collisions by approximately 30 per cent on the newly separated roads.

The project will be delivered during night works between August and November, with work sites moving progressively in sections along each of the routes.

The specially made concrete kerbing for the project is manufactured in Geelong and made using recycled materials, including old tram windows, and will be installed between the tram tracks and the closest traffic lane.

This important safety initiative builds on the Labor Government’s $1.85 billion investment to introduce 100 new Next Generation Trams to the network and a new tram maintenance and stabling facility in

Maidstone. Also in the CBD, an investment of $68 million in the 2022 budget will deliver six new level-access tram stops along La Trobe Street and a new stop on Park Street in South Melbourne. For more information about the tram separation kerbing works, head to: yarratrams.com.au/projects.

Shelter And Support for Homeless in Melbourne The St Kilda project is due for completion by mid-next year. The Labor Government is working with councils to support people at risk of or experiencing homelessness as part of the Inner Melbourne Metropolitan Partnership. The Audrey Rainsford site in Carlton, a $40 million development funded through the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build, is now up and running under the partnership program. Specialist community housing and support agency Wintringham operates the site, with a focus on housing Victorians over the age of 50, with at least half of the new homes to go to women MELBOURNE, Aug 1; People experiencing homelessness in Melbourne are getting the support they need to get back on their feet thanks to partnerships between the Andrews Labor Government, community housing agencies and councils. Minister for Housing Danny Pearson today announced the Labor Government will invest $3.7 million towards the construction of a new housing project in St Kilda, as well as operating costs over four years. Port Phillip City Council has partnered

with St Kilda Community Housing to demolish an existing rooming house and build a three-level building with 26 self-contained units, with space for support services and a concierge.

The Labor Government is also investing $9 million towards a Melbourne City Council project to repurpose a council-owned building into supported accommodation for up to 50 residents.

Under the Housing First approach, safe and permanent housing is the priority for people experiencing homelessness. Once moved into one of the new units, support workers help address complex needs through services such as drug and alcohol counselling, mental health treatment and health care.

The Victorian Budget 2022/23 is investing $75 million to build on the significant investments of the past two years and begin the transformation of the homelessness service system to deliver tailored support alongside permanent housing.

Getting More New Teachers into More Victorian Classrooms

MELBOURNE, Aug 1: The Andrews Labor Government is boosting Victoria’s teaching workforce when it’s needed most – training thousands of new educators through employment-based teaching degrees to give future teachers first-hand classroom experience while they learn. The Innovative Initial Teacher Education Program offers seven fast-tracked Master of Teaching courses through Victoria’s best universities, giving students who already have an undergraduate degree quality teaching education while providing paid in-classroom experience from early in their study. Since 2010, an average of just 50 students each year took up the pathway – but the Labor Government’s expansion of the program means almost 600 students will graduate from the courses in 2021 and 2022 alone, and a further $58.9 million boost in the Victorian Budget 2022/23 will see another 1,200 students trained by 2026. Offered through the Australian Catholic University, Deakin University, Federation University, Monash University and the University of Melbourne, these postgraduate degrees both reduce financial barriers to

studying teaching and increase the supply of teachers at the schools that need them most. Priority is given to students who aspire to teach in growing outer suburbs or in rural and regional Victoria, or those who want to teach languages other than English, science, technology, engineering, maths or vocational and applied learning. To help meet the workforce challenges jurisdictions around the world are facing as an ongoing effect of the pandemic, the investment in this year’s Budget also includes $14.4 million to deliver incentive payments for an extra 150 teachers in areas of highest need – as well as to recruit up to 100 teachers to Victoria from overseas. Rural and regional schools will see a further $8.3 million to increase the supply of Casual Relief Teachers in regional and rural schools, alongside a new pilot supporting small groups of teaching students to undertake placements at rural and regional schools. An extra $2.2 million will support the ‘Teach the Future’ campaign, which is attracting industry professionals to become vocational and applied learning teachers – positions which are increasingly important as

the Labor Government’s Senior Secondary Reforms begin in 2023. This continued investment comes after the Government’s Excellence in Teacher Education reforms, designed to raise the quality of teaching – ensuring the profession attracts the best and brightest to give Victorian government students the best education.

Australian inflation hits 21-year high

flooding across much of the east coast earlier this year. The ABS said the supply chain disruptions due to flooding events, labour shortages, and rising freight costs contributed to higher prices. Responding to the data, Treasurer Jim Chalmers warned it would "get tougher" for Australians "before it gets easier" towards the end of 2022.

CANBERRA, Jul 27: Australia has recorded its highest rate of inflation in more than 20 years, with consumers paying more for everything. According to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the Consumer Price Index rose by 1.8 percent in the June quarter and 6.1 per cent over the last 12 months. It is the highest figure since 2001 and the second-highest quarterly increase since the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in 2000. Automotive fuel prices rose by 32.1 per cent in the 12 months to June and the price

of new houses by 20.3 percent. "Shortages of building supplies and labour, high freight costs and ongoing high levels of construction activity continued to contribute to price rises for newly built dwellings," said Michelle Marquardt, head of Prices Statistics at the ABS. "The CPI's automotive fuel series reached a record level for the fourth consecutive quarter. Fuel prices rose strongly over May and June, following a fall in April due to the fuel excise cut." The cost of vegetables rose by 7.3 percent in the June quarter alone and that of fruit by 3.7 per cent as a result of catastrophic

Chalmers will on Thursday deliver a ministerial statement on the economy to Parliament, which he said would be "confronting." "It is not news to millions of Australians who feel its inflation challenge, every time they go to the supermarket and every time the bills arrive," he told reporters. "This inflation outcome today mirrors the lived experience of Australians who are doing it tough right now." The figures are expected to prompt the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) board to raise interest rates at its meeting next week. (IANS)

Australia facing significant gas shortfall in 2023

CANBERRA, Aug 1: The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on Monday released an interim report in which it warned that the country is facing significant shortfalls in gas supplies in 2023.

It found that Australia is facing a supply shortfall of 56 petajoules (PJ) in the east coast in 2023, which is equivalent to about 10 per cent of domestic demand and called for LNG exporters to keep their uncontracted supply for the domestic market. "We are also strongly encouraging LNG exporters to immediately increase their supply into the market," ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said in a statement. The east coast of Australia is forecast to produce 1,981 PJ of gas in 2023, about 65.6 percent of which will be exported under longterm contracts. Responding to the report, Treasurer Jim Chalmers said it exposed "alarming" problems with the gas market.

"It projects a significant gas shortfall for next year unless gas producers supply more of their uncontracted or excess gas to the domestic market," he said. "It's critical that our domestic gas supply is secure and competitively priced, particularly when households and businesses are under extreme pressure," he said.

www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383

The report said that without intervention, the 2023 shortfall could be worse than that of 2017, when the former government introduced the Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism (ADGSM) to restrict LNG exports and guarantee domestic supply. The ADGSM is set to expire at the end of 2022, but the federal government has signalled its intention to extend it until 2030.

About 100 aircraft and 2500 military personnel from 17 nations will arrive in the Northern Territory in two weeks to commence Exercise Pitch Black 2022 (PBK22), said the Australian Government - Defence press release. With a four-year hiatus since the last Pitch Black due to the global pandemic, this year's exercise will see a return of the combined force to Australian skies, enhancing interoperability and strengthening relationships. PBK22 is Air Force's biennial capstone international engagement activity with key strategic partners. This year's participants include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, the UK and the US. Significantly, Germany, Japan, and the Republic of Korea will be participating fully for the first time. PBK22 Director Engagement Group Captain Peter Wood said he was pleased to see a return to Pitch Black after the extended break, added the release.

"International participation in Exercise Pitch Black, from within the Indo-Pacific region and further abroad, provides all nations' personnel with experience in working with aircraft, systems and work practices, in northern Australia's unique environment, that would otherwise be unfamiliar," Group Captain Wood said. "Exercising with our international partners in combined air combat operations is pivotal to ensuring Air Force remains ready to respond whenever the Australian Government requires," added Wood. The exercise is a biennial three-week multi-national large force employment exercise conducted primarily from RAAF Base Darwin and RAAF Base Tindal. RAAF Base Amberley, located near Ipswich will also be included in the exercise this year. Exercise Pitch Black will run from August 19 - September 8, 2022. "The training and integration of forces that occurs during this exercise directly supports Air Force's ability to conduct operations," said Group Captain Wood. "We'll have nations operating out of RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal primarily, supported by RAAF Base Amberley," he added. Exercise Pitch Black 2022 is the Royal Australian Air Force's most significant International Engagement activity with forces

participating from a wide range of partner and allied nations developing and enhancing military relationships at all levels. "We are very much looking forward to working with our international partners once again for Exercise Pitch Black," said Wood. Exercise Pitch Black features a range of realistic, simulated threats which can be found in a modern battle-space environment and is an opportunity to test and improve our force integration, utilising one of the largest training airspace areas in the world -Bradshaw Field Training Area and Delamere Air Weapons Range. Activities such as Exercise Pitch Black recognize Australia's strong relationships and the high value on regional security and fostering closer ties throughout the IndoPacific region. The exercise will also support a concurrent International Observer Group program in order to provide an opportunity for foreign forces to gain an appreciation of how Australia prepares for and executes major activities. The exercise will include day and night flying. There will not be any overarching scenario for the exercise. Each mission will be executed as a stand-alone serial with distinct training objectives. Put Tricolour as social media pic from Aug 2, says PM Modi

NEW DELHI, Jul 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested people to put the Tricolour as profile pictures on their social media accounts from August 2.

Addressing his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', the Prime Minister said: "I have a suggestion that from August 2 to 15, all of us can place the Tricolor in our social media profile pictures." He said that under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, a programme called 'Har Ghar Tiranga' will be organised from August 13-15. "By becoming a part of this movement, from August 13 to 15, you must hoist the Tricolor at your residence, or adorn your home with it. The Tricolor connects us, inspires us to do something for the country," Modi said. The Prime Minister mentioned that August 2 also has a special connection with our Tricolor. "This day is the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkaiah ji who designed our national flag. I pay my respectful homage to him. Talking about our national flag, I will also remember the great revolutionary Madam Cama. Her role in shaping the Tricolor has been very important," he said. The Prime Minister mentioned that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is taking the form of a

mass movement and people from all walks of life and from every section of the society are participating in the initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence.

He also spoke of 'Azadi Ki Railgadi, Aur Railway Station', an effort to make people understand the role of Indian Railways in the freedom struggle. "Seventy-five such railway stations have been identified spread over 24 states across the country. These stations are being decorated very ornately. Many types of programs are also being organized in these. I urge the students of the nearby school, and the teachers to take the small children of their school to the station and narrate the whole chain of events to those children, explaining them." Modi also said that farmers are performing similar wonders in the production of honey which in turn is increasing their income. "The country started campaigns like the 'National Beekeeping and Honey Mission' and farmers worked hard... The sweetness of our honey started reaching across the

world. There are still huge possibilities in this field. I would like our youth to join these opportunities and take advantage of them and realize new possibilities," he said. The Prime Minister noted that India has full potential to become a powerhouse in toy exports. "Today, when it comes to Indian toys, the echo of Vocal for Local is being heard everywhere. You will also like to know that now the number of toys coming from abroad in India is continuously decreasing. Earlier, where toys worth more than Rs 3,000 crore used to come from outside, now their import has reduced by 70 per cent and it is a matter of joy that during this period, India has exported toys worth more than Rs 2,600 crore to foreign countries. Whereas earlier, only toys worth Rs 300-400 crore used to go out of India," he added. (IANS)

IAF to phase out entire MiG-21 fleet by 2025 will be fitted with a number plate," sources said.

NEW DELHI, Jul 29: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to retire a squadron of MiG-21 Bison aircraft by September 30. Thereafter, only three squadrons of the aircraft will remain in service, which would be phased out by 2025. "The 51 Squadron based out of Srinagar airport is being number plated on September 30... Thereafter, every year one squadron

The 51 Squadron is famous for thwarting Pakistan's air strike on India on February 27, 2019 and shooting down an F-16 by an aircraft flown by Wing Commander (now Group Captain) Abhinandan Varthaman. Sources said this is the only instance when a MiG-21 aircraft shot down an F-16 in an air-to-air combat. IAF is replacing MiG-21 fighter jets with more capable aircraft like Su-30 and indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383

In the last 20 months, 6 MiG-21 aircraft have crashed in accidents in which five pilots have lost their lives. On Thursday evening, a MiG-21 Type 69 Trainer aircraft crashed in Barmer, Rajasthan killing both the pilots. The MiG-21 was supposed to be discontinued long back, but the delay in induction of the LCA Tejas aircraft has forced the IAF to continue flying these aircraft. As per officials, the IAF conducts extensive checks of these aircraft before flight and all safety aspects are taken care of before the pilot takes off. Officials said that the number plated squadron would be reactivated soon with more capable aircraft in the near future. (IANS)

Trump vs Biden Rematch in 2024? Polls suggest America wants new face

Fox News says that Americans are already looking forward to 2024, and the majority of voters revealed they do not want either Biden or Trump to run for President, and so does a recent Suffolk University/USA Today.

NEW YORK, Jul 31: Amid predictions of a Trump vs Biden rematch in 2024, polls suggest voters want neither, but a new face with a focused agenda to repair the economy, the job market and control rising prices of groceries and gas, and eventually the 40-year-high inflation ahead of the winter. Odds seem stacked against the Democrats in the upcoming Nov mid-term polls, with President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' ratings plummeting by the day and Donald Trump with a wafer-thin edge over the incumbent President. The battle of the ballot is going to be over the Biden administration's efforts to rejuvenate the economy and rid it of inflation, fears of recession, control soaring house rentals, properties, grocery prices, shortage of raw materials, scarcity of baby food formulas vs Trump's ability to survive the tearing pieces of evidence of his alleged collaboration in assembling and inciting a riotous mob at the Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021 to not to certify Biden's election. However, how much of this is going to weigh in with the voters in midterms and in the primaries with the party members and funders for both the ex and incumbent is the big question. Most Democrats want someone other than Biden to run for president in 2024 - but he could still beat Trump, says CNBC quoting a poll. Only 26 per cent of Democrats said they would prefer him to be their party's candidate in the 2024 election, and 64 per cent want someone else, a new poll survey has found. Biden's age (82 in November this year) and job performance were the top reasons cited by Democrats on why they wanted a candidate other than Biden to be the party nominee, The New York Times/Siena College poll found. Just 13 per cent of voters of all kinds say the US is "on the right track", while 77 per cent said it was "headed in the wrong direction". However, Biden would likely defeat Trump again if the election were held now, the survey suggested, with 44 per cent of voters selecting him, compared to 41 per cent for Trump.

While that finding is potentially very bad news for Biden's re-election hopes, the poll has even worse news when it comes to younger Democratic voters and for how all voters see the country's direction. A whopping 94 per cent of Democrats who are less than 30 years old said they want someone besides Biden, the survey found. A Gallup poll last week that found that just 33 per cent of respondents believe Biden deserves to be re-elected, while 67 per cent said he does not deserve a second term. That is 4 percentage points lower than the level of support for re-election Trump saw in an April 2018 poll, which came more than two years before he faced Biden. In the Times/Siena poll, the top problems that voters believe are facing the US were the economy, which 20 per cent of respondents identified as the most important problem, followed by "inflation and the cost of living", which 15 per cent identified. Eleven per cent of respondents identified "the state of democracy" or "political division" as their top concern, while 10 per cent said gun policies were the most important problem. Abortion and women's rights were cited as the top concern for 5 per cent of respondents. The Supreme Court in a major ruling on June 24 said there is no federal right to abortion, reversing a nearly half-century-old opinion that it issued in the Roe v. Wade case. The decision is expected to ultimately result in abortion being banned or more severely restricted than it previously was in nearly half of the US states.

Roughly 68 per cent of voters said they do not want Biden to run again and 65 per cent do not want to see Trump make another run for the White House. Asked who in the Democratic Party voters would rather see run for President in 2024, Harris and Senator Bernie Sanders, tied for first place, with nearly 18 per cent support for each. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg received 16 per cent. Among the other rumoured 2024 contenders, Senator Amy Klobuchar received 11 per cent, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clocked in at 10 per cent, and California Governor Gavin Newsom garnered just 8 per cent. DeSantis appears to be Trump's toughest competition in 2024. But reports also suggest that Trump has been unbeatable head-to-head in any of the earlier bids at his presidency and 3rd bid will not buck the trend. Trump received the most support with 43 per cent choosing him as their 2024 pick. DeSantis came in second place with 34 per cent support. While 8 per cent still remain undecided, 7 per cent said Pence would be their choice. Representative Liz Cheney, who is a member of the Jan 6 Committee, Haley and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie all received under 3 per cent of the vote. Biden, who sees himself as the Democrat with the best chance of beating Trump, is suffering from anaemic approval ratings. Yet one top Democratic donor said the poll showing Biden beating Trump, who could announce a new run for the White House any day, is giving the President "some life at a time when he really needs it".

UK's The Guardian says on the Republican side of the ledger, "Someone else" (than Trump) also led, with 38.1 per cent of the vote.

Biden ran in the 2020 contest to end Trump's presidency, saying no other Democrat could take him on and win after the Republican's shocking win over Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016. Biden, Barack Obama's Vice President for the previous eight years, didn't run in 2016. Given Biden's political problems, the 2024 scenario is setting itself up as quite the conundrum for Democrats.

Florida Governor Rino DeSantis has attracted 23.4 per cent support and Mike Pence, Trump's Vice President, received 20.5 per cent.

"Trump is like a steroid boost for Democrats," said Jim Kessler, Executive Vice President for policy at the centrist Democratic think tank Third Way.

Also attracting support were the former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton.

He acknowledged that the November midterms are likely to be difficult for Democrats but said that a Trump re-election announcement could help boost turnout among the base. By Ashe O’Neil

Burberry features first Sikh child model in its campaign

NEW DELHI, Jul 28: British luxury brand, Burberry, is winning people's hearts with its latest Autumn-Winter '22 collection for children by celebrating diversity in fashion. In a first for the brand, Burberry has featured its first Sikh child model.

Sahib Singh, is photographed dressed in a Burberry cardigan with a pair of sneakers and a matching black turban, known traditionally as a 'Patka.' The patka is worn by Sikh boys before they reach adolescence. Posing for the camera in the cardigan and shorts, Singh's back-to-school look is completed with a Thomas Burberry Bear puffer jacket. The campaign and photographs went live on Burberry's Instagram handle on Wednesday evening. "Sahib had an incredible day with the

Burberry team, who really looked after all the children they were shooting with. To see our son, who does look different from his peers, being given a chance by the iconic British brand was truly a milestone moment," Harjot Kaur, the child model's mother told Vogue India. Little Sahib's mother, who manages his Instagram account, posted the photo of Sahib having a good time and tagged Burberry and South Coast Kidz Ltd.

Kaur captioned it, "On this journey, we have gone through so many different emotions. We have felt a few disappointments when Sahib wasn't chosen for a job. We never told him about any shoots until he's fully confirmed as he doesn't need to feel the emotions involved. The stress when the council refuses his license to "perform". Never underestimate a parent who wants the world for their child!"

Asia's richest woman loses more than half her fortune

HONG KONG, Jul 28: Yang Huiyan, Asia's wealthiest woman, has seen her wealth fall to $11 billion from nearly $24 billion this year as China's property crisis escalates, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The 41-year-old controls Country Garden Holdings, China's largest real estate developer by sales. Her stake was largely transferred from her father Yang Guoqiang, who founded the company in Foshan, Guangdong province, in 1992, CNN reported. Country Garden's stock has lost more than half its value this year, as the country's real estate sector has struggled with falling home prices, weakening buyer demand, and a debt default crisis that has engulfed some of its largest developers since last year, CNN reported. Despite losing more than half her fortune, Yang remains the richest woman in Asia, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The plunge in her net worth has narrowed the wealth gap between her and fellow female billionaires in China, making Yang only some $100 million away from being surpassed by Fan Hongwei in wealth. Fan chairs Hengli Petrochemical, a chemical fiber producer.

Evergrande, China's most indebted property firm, defaulted on its US dollar bonds in December following months of liquidity issues. Since then, several other major developers, including Kaisa and Shimao Group, have also sought protection from creditors. In recent weeks, the real estate crisis has escalated, as thousands of disgruntled home-buyers who had made down payments

for unfinished homes threatened to stop paying mortgages if construction is not completed in time, CNN reported. Country Garden is also facing growing liquidity stress. On Wednesday, the developer announced it would sell stocks at a nearly 13 per cent discount to raise HK$2.83 billion ($361 million), compared to its Tuesday's closing price. (IANS)

Interesting questions from clients (Part-III) Which are the documents is prescribed by the Marriage Act 1961 as necessary for a marriage celebrant to establish the identities of parties to a marriage? The Marriage Act 1961 does not prescribe specific documents for establishing a party's identity, although a current photo identity is recommended. It is up to the celebrant to be satisfied regarding this criterion. I was approached by a gentleman asking me to solemnise his marriage. He told me that he was divorced in Germany in 2015. Which approach is correct in this scenario? I will request him to provide the German divorce certificate and an official translation of the divorce certificate into English by a NAATI accredited translator. An interesting question - In the event that a party to a marriage was divorced overseas but is unable to obtain evidence of the divorce, are they able to provide a statutory declaration

as evidence to an authorised celebrant, and if so, what should it contain? Yes, they are able to provide a statutory declaration as evidence to an authorised celebrant. The statutory declaration should explain why they believe they are divorced. This would include information concerning why there is no evidence of their divorce or why they cannot obtain that evidence, and all of the enquiries they have made to obtain evidence of their divorce. They should also attach any independent evidence from third parties.

Sanskrit Scriptures gifted to the Parliament of Victoria

O

n Tuesday, 2 August 2022, the Parliament of Victoria invited and received a senior swami of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, Mahamahopadhyaya Swami Bhadreshdas as a special guest recognising his academic achievements. He is respected globally as an eminent scholar and philosopher of Indian philosophy, beliefs, and culture. With the inspiration of his gurus and the current spiritual leader of BAPS, Mahant Swami Maharaj he has been immersed in the study of Vedic literature and texts for the last 40 years. He has attained five master’s degrees in classical schools of Hindu thoughts. Furthermore, he has achieved a PhD and has also been conferred with a D.Litt in philosophy. Amongst his many achievements, the most significant has been his writing of the Swaminarayan Bhashyam which is a classicalstyle Sanskrit commentary on some of the most prominent scriptures of Hinduism namely the ten Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Brahma Sutras. Through this commentary, he expounds on the scriptural insights revealed by Bhagwan Swaminarayan and establishes a distinct school of philosophy known as the ‘Akshar-Purushottam’ Darshan. This unique Vedantic philosophy has been recognised by institutions worldwide. On this historic day, Swami Bhadreshdasji was welcomed by Members of Parliament in the Queen’s Hall. He delivered a special

message in Sanskrit derived from the insights of the Satsang Diksha scripture to the Parliament of Victoria wherein he appreciated the promotion of multiculturalism in the state of Victoria. Thereafter, the Parliamentary Library of Victoria was gifted the Swaminarayan Bhashyam and Satsang Diksha scripture by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha highlighting the growing bond between the Hindu Community and Victoria Government. The former President of the Legislative Council, Hon. Bruce Atkinson, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Mr Craig Ondarchie, and the Speakers Advisor, Mr. Jason McDonald, all accepted these gifts on behalf of the Parliament of Victoria. BAPS representatives also offered the books to the Manager of Parliamentary Library and Information Service, Mrs Carolyn Macvean. After the exchange of gifts, Members of Parliament and Swami Bhadreshdas had an intriguing discussion about the importance of the Sanskrit language and how it is applicable to the world today. They personally showed Swami Bhadreshdasji around the library and informed him about the grand collection from all around the world. Swami Bhadreshdasji is currently in Australia as part of the birth centenary celebrations of Pramukh Swami Maharaj to share his message of peace, love, and tolerance to foster global harmony.

ARE YOU EATING AN EGG-CELLENT BREAKFAST? Eggs are an excellent source of essential nutrients, including protein, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, and calcium. They’re affordable, versatile, and lip-smacking. Also, you can easily find them anywhere in the world.

unwashed dirty egg. Washing eggs removes the bloom and washing eggs in cool water actually makes a vacuum, drawing unwanted bacteria inside even faster when kept at room temperature or under the sun. Here most people will argue that ‘eggs don’t get spoilt at room temperature’ - Yes, they don’t but the quality sure deteriorates and as we all know it is best for human beings to eat fresh eggs for our health rather than not-rotten eggs. Post-washed eggs from a commercial washing plant need to be kept at a constant temperature only then the eggs are really fresh and safe for consumption. The main challenge is to make supermarkets and shopkeepers understand the importance of keeping eggs in the chiller at stores. Otherwise, all cold chain efforts will be wasted before they reach the consumers.”

The Indian poultry market reached a value of Rs 1,708 Billion in 2021 and it is expected that the market will reach Rs 3,170 Billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 10.50 per cent during 2022-2027. Nevertheless, the Indian poultry industry has been plagued with hygiene and quality issues. Mitsuko Takahashi, Chief Operating Officer, Director, Ise-Suzuki Egg India Pvt. Ltd. says, “Eggs are often laid with manure, thus increasing the risk of diseases due to salmonella and other bacteria. Another major constraint affecting the growth of the poultry industry in India is the lack of basic infrastructure such as storage and transportation, including the cold chain. The good news is that Japanese tech innovations can transform the process of producing and transporting eggs in India and have already started doing so. The Japanese technology of cold chain eggs offers immense benefits and opens new possibilities for India’s poultry market.” Why Cold Chain Eggs In tropical weather, an eggs’ quality can quickly deteriorate unless it is stored at a low temperature. But why are eggs not transported in cold chains in the same way

that dairy and poultry products are? According to Mitsuko, “Only unwashed eggs have a longer shelf life at room temperature. The egg quality starts deteriorating the moment they are washed. Egg shells are porous, but nature gave eggs a micro membrane coating called ‘bloom’ to keep potential baby chicks and their environment safe and clean. Bacteria have a hard time getting inside a dry

Why Japanese Tech? The average Japanese person eats around 320 eggs (Tamago) per year, and we are very particular about the quality. Mitsuko Takahashi believes that the eggs in Japan are so fresh and safe that they can be eaten raw. This is why Japanese Cold Chain eggs are the best. With new technology, eggs are laid in a sterilised environment, are machine washed, and disinfected further with UV. Then the eggs go through rigorous quality testing to ensure that they adhere to a predefined standard. These steps ensure that all traces of bacteria are removed, and the eggs are safe for consumption and are transported via clean and hygienic cold reefer trucks. “The concept of cold chain eggs has been gaining traction in various countries, including India as it stops food waste and also ensures that eggs are more nourishing and freer of harmful bacteria. Once Indian consumers start to understand they need to eat hygienic and fresh eggs, it could be a game changer to advance India’s cold chain concept extending beyond just dairy, beverage, and ice creams. In June 2022, for the first time, we introduced the concept of cold chain logistics in the Indian egg market. It’s all set to take the industry by a storm as more brands realise the benefits. With temperature-controlled transportation, producers can transport eggs over long distances without worrying about spoilage. Also, it’ll help preserve the nutritional value of the eggs. Moreover, proper hygiene standards will mean that consumers don’t have to worry about food poisoning or bacterial infections. That’ll likely make eggs more popular in the country and escalate sales further,” concludes Mitsuko Takahashi. By N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

ARE YOU AN OVERTHINKER?

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN CONTROL IT

We all have spent our time wondering about something, followed our train of thought and felt amazed at their impermanence and fleeting nature of it. How easily we start thinking about trivial things and don’t stop until we have made up scenarios, circumstances, and predicaments that were not present in the beginning. These thoughts upset us, make us miserable, and detach us from the real world. Overthinking can become a habit and soon start affecting our mental calmness and health. Devina Kaur, a radio host, producer, and the author of Too Fat Too Loud Too Ambitious shares a few tips that you can keep in mind if you have a habit of overthinking and wish to put a stop to it. Know yourself It is always encouraged to take time off the world and indulge more in ourselves and our thoughts. Spending time with our thoughts is essential to knowing ourselves better but diving into them more than necessary can become unhealthy. Overthinking can be addictive, and it can be challenging to force yourself to stop it altogether and all at once, but you can make efforts to know

and understand your thoughts. Once we understand our train of thoughts and how much we spend time with our thoughts, we can start by discerning them into productive versus unfruitful ones. We can then make better mindful choices. Accept your past and fears Oftentimes, overthinking is borne out of our fears and from our past doings. As humans, we tend to carry regrets and guilt from our past. Something that may have happened a couple of years ago still has a hold on us and haunts us. One step toward putting a stop to overthinking is by accepting your flaws, faults, and fears. Once you start seeing yourself under the light of your true self and not tainted by your past and imperfections, you are making efforts in accepting yourself and over time, you will also learn to focus more on the present and not brood over what has already happened or over something that we do not hold the power to change. Release stress and negativity We spend time overthinking because we are surrounded by negativity and stress has built up in our bodies. We should opt for ways

www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383

to release tension that has accumulated in our bodies. It is advisable to meditate before you go off to bed at night and evaluate your day; appreciate the good things that have happened to you and learn from your mistakes, not hold on to those. Exercising and meditative sessions have helped me a lot in various aspects of my life and certainly, they will make you calmer about your environment and help you become more mindful of the thoughts that you entertain. Mirror therapy One of the side effects of overthinking is self-doubt. Our self-doubts make us uncertain of our choices and stop us from making any decisions. One of the ways to overcome self-doubt is through mirror therapy. In mirror therapy, stand in front of a mirror and tell yourself that you are a confident person; appreciate your body and mind-the quality of your thoughts; remind yourself of your inner sexy brilliance. Once it becomes a routine, instead of seeing flaws, you’ll notice the positivity in yourself and feel more comfortable and confident in your skin than ever did before. By N Lothungbeni Humtsoe

A Hindu Marriage and Divorce in Australia BY GURPAL SINGH

T

he marriages solemnised under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 carries a peculiar problem. A marriage under Hindu Marriage Act can only be dissolved on the grounds specified therein to include adultery, cruelty, desertion, ceased to be a Hindu by converting to another religion, has been incurably of unsound mind or has been suffering continuously or intermittently from mental disorder of such a kind and to such an extent that the one cannot reasonably be expected to live with the other spouse, suffering from a virulent and incurable form of leprosy or venereal disease in communicable form, has renounced the world by entering a religious order, or has not been heard of as being alive for a period of seven years or more, no cohabitation for a period of one year or upwards after the passing of a decree for judicial separation in a proceeding to which one was a party, no restitution of conjugal rights after the passing of a decree for restitution of conjugal rights, husband since the solemnisation of marriage was held guilty of rape, sodomy or bestiality, the girl repudiated the marriage after attaining the age of eighteen years in a case where the marriage was solemnised before attaining the age of fifteen years. The law does not recognise the irretrievably broken marriage as a ground for divorce and the cases where the marriage is dead for all intents. The Law Commission of India recognised

the problem in its report of 2009, and advised the parliament of India to introduce an amendment in the Hindu Marriage Act to include another ground for grant of divorce being ‘irretrievable breakdown of marriage’ between the parties. In addition to the recommendations made by the Law Commission of India, the Indian courts have on various occasions, exercised its discretion under the constitution of India and allowed divorce on the ground of ‘irretrievable breakdown of marriage’. The parliament seems to be totally oblivious of the urgent need to correct the anomaly of the law and provide much needed support to the cause of people married under the Hindu Marriage Act and seeking quick and smooth dissolution of the marriage. This quagmire raises various issues and escalation of dispute between the parties who had made their home in countries other than India. One of the other party would take a stand in the court primarily on the ground that Hindu Marriage Act does not allow the ‘irretrievable breakdown of marriage’ being a ground of marriage. Such a stand is taken even though the litigating party may be living in the foreign country and in this situation Australia, enjoying all the amenities being offered by the Australian government including but not limited to grants, tax benefits, Centrelink benefits and child support etc.

The immediate reaction of such a stand results in the inability of the Judicial Registrar to hear the application for divorce and grant the same in case the conditions of divorce were made out. The matter would then be referred to the Judge for adjudication on the evidence presented before it. Often it is seen that the party litigating would appoint some family member as an attorney and initiate the proceedings including criminal proceedings without even going to India while continue to enjoy the comforts of Australian life merely as a knee jerk reaction or otherwise arm-twisting exercise to extract financial gains which one may not be otherwise entitled. The approach of the Indian courts and Australian courts in such a situation seems to be in line with the expectations of the private international law which requires that the people of Indian origin should respect the family law jurisdiction of the local court where they ordinarily live rather than implicating each other in multiplicity of litigation. The Australian courts are cautious of litigious and vindictive nature of litigants from Indian background who process multiple cases in different jurisdictions merely to cause harassment rather than genuinely working out the exit strategy from the bad relationship. The Australian courts have over-written the objection to exercise the jurisdiction under Family Law Act and even directed the party litigating to ensure that the cases filed in India are withdrawn and an affidavit confirming such a withdrawal is filed in the court. A non-compliance is tantamount to a contravention of the order and the concerned person can be punished for contravention of the order.

If your current fitness session consists of an hour of strength training at the gym followed by thirty minutes on the treadmill - and you want to change the monotonous fitness regime for Fat loss then a Boxing workout is for you! Fitness boxing is a new fitness regime for people looking to lose fat, build lean muscle, and develop an athletic body. It is appropriate for both men and women of any age or fitness level. However, it is a relatively new concept in India. Contrary to popular belief, it does not entail getting into a ring and throwing punches. Instead, it has adapted sport movements as exercises that will get you fit while also helping you learn some serious skills! Why Fitness Boxing is great for a fullbody workout? Fitness Boxing combines the many benefits of cardio workouts and weight training into one fun package that works your entire body. Throwing and swinging punches, or moving your arm, back, and shoulder muscles using kinetic chain tones your upper body. Slip, swings, and crouch defences that involve a wide stance and bent knees strengthen the lower body. How does Fitness Boxing help to burn fat? Boxing is a high-intensity workout that primarily relies on aerobic metabolism, despite drawing energy from both anaerobic and aerobic pathways. V02

max is the maximum amount of oxygen that can be absorbed, carried through the blood, and used as fuel during exercise. This increased energy expenditure burns calories and eventually reduces the body’s fat percentage. A lower body fat percentage gets you one step closer to having a slim and athletic body. 5 Reasons why boxing should be a part of your weight loss journey: It is a serious calories burner High-intensity boxing training has been shown to reduce body fat and improve overall body composition more than walking, jogging, and running. as it stimulates the heart to pump blood to the muscles It promotes fat loss while also keeping the heart healthy. A typical session of boxing can burn up to 600 calories. Boxing is very effective in developing enhanced anaerobic (muscle building) and aerobic (fat burning) respiration due to rigorous and intense pad work followed by repetitions of fastpaced punching and striking. It is a great core workout Boxing is an excellent way to develop both functional and aesthetically pleasing abs. A common misconception is that boxing is only good for your arms. Boxing with proper form, on the other hand, is a powerful core workout. Boxing requires hip and trunk rotation to generate speed and power. Throwing a punch engages your abdominal muscles and can help you build stronger, more defined muscles, while also reducing visceral fat around your waist and the medical risks that come with it. Works on the entire body When your workout routine lacks variety, you become easily bored. Let’s face it: using the treadmill or taking brisk walks along the same route can quickly become monotonous. Furthermore, such workouts will not result in optimal fitness or weight loss. Boxing exercises the entire body. When you punch, you are also transferring weight from one foot to the other, which improves core stability and overall body coordination. This is

why boxers have a well-toned body and good posture. Incorporating all of your muscle groups into your workout can increase its intensity and hasten the weight loss process. Most boxing routines include resistance training, shadow boxing, jumping rope, and constant hitting on a speed bag, so you won’t need to add much more to your regular fitness routine to see the results you want. Is Sustainable and Fun Whereas many traditional fitness formats appear to become monotonous, boxing remains interesting. Fitness Boxing is a dynamic and exciting fitness format that creates an atmosphere that never gets boring. Working out will become a chore if it is not enjoyable for you, and you will not want to do it. Boxing is a sport that engages both the body and the mind. It is both a mental and physical workout. Another important factor that contributes to boxing’s popularity as a weight loss fitness option is its low learning curve. Beginners can immediately begin training and learn the fundamental offensive and defensive strategies. In just a few sessions, you will quickly grasp boxing’s distinct flow and rhythm. It is a stress buster It’s no secret that exercise improves our overall well-being, including our mental health. Numerous studies have found that physical activity reduces stress levels. Boxing is an excellent form of exercise for relieving stress. While the intensity may seem counterintuitive, hitting a target repeatedly can make you feel happier and calmer from within. This is done so that parasympathetic (rest and digest) hormones such as serotonin, dopamine, endocannabinoids, and endorphins can be released more readily during high-intensity cardiac exercise such as boxing. Exercise also reduces stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline in your body. As a result, your mood improves, your relaxation improves, and you sleep better. It is an excellent way to boost mental strength and combat a variety of health issues, such as depression and anxiety. By Mujtaba Kamal

pring marks the beginning of a beautiful season of colours and peeling off the winter layers in style. With more sunshine all the way in September, here’s all the reasons to add some Spring must have to your capsule wardrobe. Now, we still have a month to go and while preparing for the Spring fling. Here are the top Fashion Trends to follow this Spring: 1) Boho Country style: Love for dresses in Spring is eternal, time to get those Boho vibes moving. One of the hottest trends is Boho fashion. What we like so much about it is that it’s flowing and easy but also edgy and feminine—all at the same time. Make it a low-key affair with a dress and a boot, which resonates well with Melbourne spring weather. Or add some mis and match of patterns with a cardigan or a hat to give a countryside look.

My favourite look is dresses with boots and a classic hat. 2) Sweats/Hoodies: The hoodie style is always in trend when it comes to Melbourne streetstyle. Colourful hoodies with skirts or actives and even denims with runners or boots does the job. You can also style up the hoodie on a dress for the colder days of spring. My favourite style is actives with hoodies. 3) The colour Purple: You cannot ignore the colour of the year when it comes to Spring style. Colours like purple, lilac, pink and hot pink, they all resonate well with the colour palette of the year. From lilac

to lavender, from magenta to Ultraviolet, designers have chosen purple to play with again in 2022. When colour blocking your pink outfits, you can stick to Yellow, orange, and green are the most obvious ones to pair your purple shades. 4) Bellbottoms Denims: Yes, the 70’s trend is back again, time to bring out those bell bottoms and wide legged denims this year in Spring. Experiment with denim on denim or go casual and chic with a classic white shirt and boots. Add your own flair, with jackets, trench coats or even a denim jacket too. 5) Blazer Dress: This isn’t a versatile outfit to pull together but is an eye catching one if you can style the blazer dress for any spring event you wish to attend. Wear it with heels or add a boots and chic bag to you. A blazer dress is the ultimate option for a bold fashionista! Remember not to shun away from adding patterns, colours, and layers to your Spring outfits. Afterall its all about confidence and how beautifully you carry your outfits makes all the difference. RAKSHA BANDHAN- A BOND OF LOVE! BY ARCHITA BAWEJA

R

akhi or Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival that stands out from other celebrations, as this day is dedicated to the unique relationship between a brother and sister. It is not only a symbol of this incomparable bond, but also a reflection of their love, belief and confidence in each other. Rakhi is celebrated throughout India in its various forms. On this day, a sister ties a sacred thread called ‘Rakhi’ on her brother’s wrist, puts a tilak on his forehead and performs Aarti. These rituals are an expression of her fondness and warmth towards her brother. To return this love, the brother promises to take care of his sister and hands her with a gift. The most common incident that relates to Rakhi whenever there is any mention about the history of Rakhi is the one between Lord Krishna and Draupadi. The relation between them goes back to the point in Mahabharata where Lord Krishna gets injured during a battle where Draupadi ties a strip of cloth around his wrist to stop the bleeding. Touched by this incident, Lord Krishna promises that he would protect her from all evil and danger. And standing true to

his promise, Lord Krishna protects Draupadi during the Cheerharn incident that takes place when Pandavas lose their wife in the game of dice to Kauravas. For me, Rakhi brings back the fond memory of us going to our paternal aunt’s house and spending the day each year with our cousins. The celebration included the religious ceremony of tying the sacred thread to our brothers’ wrists and my aunty tied a

similar thread to my father. There was always a sumptuous meal that followed and lots of snacks and sweets. This was something we always looked forward to as kids. My mother did a similar thing for her brother and so did all the sisters in the family for their brothers. Rakhi is celebrated throughout the world in different countries, but the pandemic has changed the ways in which we celebrate, last two years most celebrations were online. Sisters who live far away from their families send ornate cards and the sacred thread of Rakhi across borders to show how precious their siblings are. Moving a step forward, not only brothers and sisters or siblings but people not related by blood take part in this merry making. This celebration has evolved from just being a family ritual to an occasion which bridges the gap between people of different religions and ethnicities. The famous Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore was the first one to bring out this different connotation of the festival when he tried to use this occasion to bridge the gap between Hindus and Muslims, to avoid the division of Bengal. Raksha Bandhan focuses to strengthen the relationships that make a difference in our life and thus make it more valuable. Hope this legacy of bonding through festivals keeps passing on from one generation to the next and keeps giving us a special day and reason to be grateful for.

APPLE RAMPS UP EFFORTS ON SELF-DRIVING CAR, FILES NEW PATENTS Apple to help it develop a fully electric autonomous car. She worked on a range of Ford and Lincoln SUVs, as well as Ford’s Fiesta and Focus compact cars.

Apple has ramped up its efforts to develop a self-driving car and has filed several new patents in software and hardware related to riding comfort such as seats and suspension, the media reported on Monday.

According to a report in TheElec earlier this year, Apple partnered with a South Korean outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) company to develop its car’s autopilot technology.

The iPhone maker is also working on vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology, which allows cars to communicate with each other and connect to the Internet of Things (IoT), reports Nikkei Asia along with analytics company Intellectual Property Landscape. The report found that from 2000 till June 1 this year, Apple applied for and published 248 automobile-related patents. While most of Apple’s applications in 2021 have yet to be published, eight were published. In January 2021, Hyundai Motor was said to be in talks with Apple for selfdriving technology. The South Korean automaker later denied this.

Apple Car is also expected to use LED screens all over the vehicle to inform other drivers what the self-driving system is doing.

Apple remains tight-lipped about its self-driving ambitions. Thye company has reportedly hired veteran Ford executive Desi Ujkashevic, as the iPhone maker plans to launch an electric car in 2024. Ujkashevic, who is Ford’s global director of safety engineering, will join

The display would show braking information, the speed of the car and other messages in the form of graphics as well as video. The upcoming Apple Car is expected to use a ‘C1’ chip based on the A12 Bionic processor, with in-cabin AI capabilities such as eye-tracking. (ANI)

purified before it can be used. On the other hand, LAMP does not require any such purification step.

A team of researchers are working to develop an instrument that can be clipped onto a smartphone to rapidly test for Zika virus with a single droplet of blood.

A cartridge, that contains reagents required to detect the virus, is inserted into the instrument to perform the test while the instrument is clipped onto a smartphone.

Zika virus infections are currently detected through polymerase chain reaction tests performed in a laboratory, which can amplify the genetic material of the virus, allowing scientists to detect it. “We have designed a clip-on device so that the smartphone’s rear camera is looking at the cartridge while the amplification occurs,” said Brian Cunningham from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the US.

Once the patient adds a drop of blood, one set of chemicals break open the viruses and the blood cells within five minutes. A heater below the cartridge heats it up to 65 degrees Celcius.

When there’s a positive reaction, you see little green blooms of fluorescence that eventually fill up the entire cartridge with green light,” Cunningham added.

suitable for point-of-care clinics. While PCR requires 20-40 repeated temperature shifts to amplify the genetic material, LAMP only requires one temperature -- 65-degree Celcius -- making it easier to control.

In the new study, researchers used Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification to detect the virus in the blood samples using an approach

Additionally, PCR tests are very sensitive to contaminants, especially the other components in a blood sample. As a result, the sample is first

The second set of chemicals then amplifies the viral genetic material, and the liquid inside the cartridge fluoresces bright green if the blood sample contains the Zika virus. The entire process takes 25 minutes. The researchers are now developing similar devices to detect other mosquito-borne viruses simultaneously and are working on making the devices even smaller. Instagram to become more video-focused over time: Mosseri

After Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner criticised Instagram for trying to be like TikTok, the Meta-owned platform’s head Adam Mosseri shared a video explaining the recent changes to the platform and said it will become more video-focused over time.

He added that if users see a new, fullscreen version of their feed, it is just a test.

Mosseri said that he has also heard a lot of concern about recommendations, which are posts that appear in users’ feeds from accounts that they do not follow.

On the microblogging site Twitter, Mosseri shared a video and mentioned that “there is a lot happening on Instagram right now”.

He said recommendations are meant to help users discover new content, and they act as one of the “most effective and important” ways to help creators reach more people.

“I wanted to address a few things we are working on to make Instagram a better experience,” Mosseri wrote on Twitter.

Mosseri said if people are not interested in these posts, they can close them or snooze all recommendations for up to a month.

According to CNBC, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been pushing into short videos, a market that TikTok dominates on mobile. Many users have not responded well to the change, and a post urging the company to “make Instagram Instagram again,” implying it should focus more on pictures friends post, has amassed over 1.6 million likes and resulted in nearly 140,000 petition signatures.

In the video, Mosseri said that he knows there has been a lot of change to Instagram. He said the app will continue to support photos, but he believes it will become more video-focused over time since it is what people are liking, sharing and consuming on the platform.

Meanwhile, recently, Jenner and Kardashian criticised Instagram, urging the app to stop mimicking rival TikTok. To their hundreds of millions of Instagram followers, Jenner and Kardashian posted a message that read, “Make Instagram Instagram Again”. (IANS)

Indian short-video apps to reach 600 mn users by 2025

Indian short-form apps are expected to double their monthly active user base to 600 million (67 per cent of all smartphone users) by 2025 and have a monetisation opportunity of $19 billion by 2030, a new report has shown. Indians now spend close to 156 minutes per day viewing entertainment content on their smartphones. In fact, on average, an Indian user consumes close to 38 minutes of shortform content each day.

According to the report by Bengaluru-based Redseer Strategy Consultants, the next wave of internet growth is likely to come from tier 2 cities and beyond, regions which have a higher propensity to view short form videos. Additionally, rapidly improving quality of content and algorithms for Indian short-form apps is another significant driver of growth. The short-form app market is dominated by Moj, Josh, Roposo, MX TakaTak and Chingari, among others. “Indian short-form apps are witnessing phenomenal growth as compared to other established platforms, this can be attributed to their low decision fatigue, language localisation,

recommendations, genre variety and local creator influence,” said Mohit Rana, a partner at Redseer. The Indian apps are now poised to start monetising their large and engaged user base through advertising, video commerce and to a lesser extent, gifting.

take close to 10-20 per cent of the overall digital ad pie. “Further, video-led commerce in shortform apps is another big opportunity, and China is a testimony to this given that in the last 4 years alone, video-led commerce in China grew 100 times,” the report mentioned.

The report said that by 2030, short form can

RELATIONSHIPS

Bringing up your ex habitually? In a perfect world, when one relationship ends and another starts anew, you move on civilly. No more ties, all memories erased, no resentment in the heart. But we don’t live in an ideal world. Breakups are often messy and leave you with an unsolicited shared history. What do you do with that?

D

ating App QuackQuack recently surveyed people ranging from 21 and 35 years of age to get their opinion on discussing the ex with the present partner. The survey revealed that 61 per cent of the people talk about their ex with their present partner. They believe that if something is distressing you, discuss it with your partner. On the other hand, 39 percent are scared it might hurt their relationship. Talking about your ex is like treading dangerous waters. Healthy relationship check Forty-seven per cent of women aged 25 to 30, voiced that talking about their ex with the new partner proves that they are in a sound and secure relationship. They chimed that the current partner must have survived a heartbreak or two. There should be no reason to be afraid of opening up about the past. Everyone wants to be a tough cookie until the day it starts affecting their mental health. Talking about your ex and the grief afflicted in the past relationship would leave you unburdened and happy.

with their partner. They reckon that talking about your ex might mean that you are still in love with them. It’s best to leave the past behind you. A few chimed that it is not fair to put your new boo in your ex’s shadow. Bringing up your ex habitually can cause lasting damage to the relationship. Red flag, Green Flag Are you one to pick up a fight whenever you hear your sweetheart talk about their ex? You might want to pay attention to what 43 per cent of women from tier 1 and tier 2 cities think about such behaviour. They voiced finding it as a big red flag in the relationship. These ladies were curious to know why trivial discussions about a person who was a part of your life once upon a time create so much drama. They opined that a man secure about himself would never exhibit such a demeanour. An oddball QuackQuack shared that among their

Trauma bonding Fifty-six per cent of people above 30 from tier 1 and tier 2 cities talk about their previous relationship with their partner, and they opine that the conversation is not actually about the ex, it is rather about the trauma they gave each other. Often listening to each other’s past traumas has a bonding effect on their relationships. Some mentioned focusing on the positive aspect of their exes. While it is tempting to dish about the said ex, that is not a healthy approach. Hung up on your ex? According to the survey, 38 per cent of the surveyed users aged 18 to 25 indicated being against talking about their ex or related issues

surveyed users, 52 per cent of men aged 30 to 35 find it odd if their partner never mentions the ex in the entire relationship. It might be an indication of unresolved feelings. Some of these men revealed that if their partner is vague around the discussions revolving around their ex, or they seem to withhold some of the truth about their past relationship, it can be a harbinger of bad news. Why would you want to pretend as if you have never been with anyone in the past? You are all the choices you made, and your ex is one of them! Brawl with Boo Upon analysis, the App found some unhealthy trends among the younger ones compared to the more mature. 26 percent of women ranging from 21 to 25 revealed that discussing their ex or the mere utterance of their names had caused an ugly fight and unnecessary strain in the relationship. The dos & don’ts of using lemon on your skin

33

E

very beauty expert, and skincare blogger would advise you to add Vitamin C to your skincare routine. So, we all turn to sources of Vitamin C and the most easily and readily available is lemon. You might come across various DIYs which involve lemon juice, lemon zest, etc. There are so many skin benefits of adding lemon to your face masks and packs but in the past few years, we have been hearing whispers of the risks associated with using lemon on the skin. Let’s weigh in on the pros and cons of using lemon on our skin: Benefits of using lemon on your face: Exfoliates dead skin - Lemon juice contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) such as glycolic acid. Such acids are commonly used in skin care, as they increase cell turnover and slough away dead skin cells. As a result, many folks use lemon juice in hopes of reducing dullness and brightening the skin. Reduces Acne - Lemon juice has astringent qualities due to its acidic level. Ingredients with a low pH level can help decrease inflammation and oil that may contribute to the formation of acne. Furthermore, citric acid, a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), can help break down dead skin cells that lead to noninflammatory forms of acne, like blackheads. Increases collagen production - The body needs vitamin C to synthesize collagen, the main structural protein in the skin. Using vitamin-C-rich ingredients can help support your intake of the nutrient, and ultimately, collagen production. Skin spot or hair lightening - Citrus ingredients like lemon may also work well on lightening age spots or acne scars, as well as any hair on your face. Dandruff treatment - lemon has been used to treat dandruff for ages, the sloughing-off effects are attributed to lemon’s natural levels of citric acid, as AHAs have an exfoliating effect on the skin, therefore it can also alleviate skin patches attributed to dandruff. Offers antioxidants - Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant, meaning it can help fight oxidative stress. This is noteworthy

because oxidative stress can lead to inflammation, sagging, and faster skin aging. However, lemon juice may help stave off these effects because it contains vitamin C. Now let us look at some disadvantages of using lemon on your face: Cause irritation: Even if your stint with lemon juice doesn’t result in burns, the ingredient can still cause irritation. This is a side effect of acids, like those in lemon juice, weakening and damaging the skin barrier. According to Worden, possible symptoms include peeling, dryness, stinging, and redness, depending on your skin tone. Sunburn: Citrus fruits applied topically can also increase your risk of sunburn. Never apply lemon before going outside in direct sunlight, and don’t use it for several days before any planned outdoor activities. Phytophotodermatitis: It is a type of skin reaction to citrus fruits and other culprits, like parsley, celery, and carrot plants. When you have citrus substances on your skin and your skin is then exposed to UV rays, an inflammatory reaction may occur. This can result in swelling, bumps on your

www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383

skin, redness, and rashes. Hyperpigmentation: Although lemon juice is often used to reduce hyperpigmentation, it can actually worsen the issue. That’s because the sunburns caused by lemon juice can cause blistering, leading to months of hyperpigmentation and potentially permanent scarring. Basically, you need to understand that vitamin C in beauty products is different from vitamin C in your food. We are not saying don’t use lemon at all on your face, but do the following so that you don’t develop any skin problems: 4 Always do a patch test before applying it to your face. You can do it on your arms and wait for some time to see the reaction 4 Always dilute lemon juice with something like rose water or honey, avoid using it alone and directly on your face 4 Sunscreen is a must after you apply lemon juice 4 Use fresh lemons in case you are adding the juice to a pack By N. WHITE LIES MIGHT NOT BE AS HARMLESS AS YOU THINK!

In an ideal world, you and your sweetheart would always choose to tell the truth. But we don’t live in a perfect world, do we? Distorting the truth to your convenience and cooking up some white lies is probably the oldest trick in the book. On some level, lying is considered normal in a relationship. But how much is too much? When dating App QuackQuack surveyed people from tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India ranging between the age of 25 and 35, 59 percent of people admitted to having said some harmless lie to their partner because they felt it helped keep the peace in the relationship. But 41 percent said that they have never lied to their partners. Relationships are built on trust. Every lie, whether white or not, comes with a consequence. Matter of perspective Based on the survey, 45 per cent of women from tier 1 and 2 cities opine that lying should not be acceptable in any relationship, even if it is harmless. They believe that once you allow yourself to lie, soon it will turn into a habit. All those small white lies will result in a huge fight one day. While it is not something to be proud of, it is crucial to understand that lying is usual in a relationship. Sometimes the end justifies the means. Among the people surveyed, 55 per cent of women revealed that they have made up some white lies at times to save their partner from unnecessary heartaches. Not all truth needs to be voiced, they expressed. Fear or Love? 35 per cent of people surveyed between the ages of 25 and 30 remarked that they have never lied to their partners for fear of getting caught and losing their trust. Fear plays a big part in their decision. They fear being tagged as a liar for the rest of eternity for a small insignificant lie. They fear that sooner or later, their partner will pick up on these lies, and that would taint their trust forever. Backing up this theory, survey results show that 31 per cent of women expressed they would never trust their

partners if they found them lying. Busted 32 per cent of people confessed to getting caught in a white lie, and it ruined their relationship. Sometimes we don’t think much before telling a small lie. But that small lie can be the very thing that breaks up your long-term relationship. 23 per cent of people above 30 revealed that a white lie created a huge discord in their relationship, and it remains unresolved to date. Fight or flight 56 per cent of men aged between 27 and 35 revealed that they often tell some white lies to their partner to avoid needless fights. Should you tell her the truth when she asks if the dress makes her look fat? No, they commented. You tell her a white lie to make her feel confident about herself. If she asks you if you loved the gift she chose for you, you lie and say yes! While some expressed that when a lie

www.gdayindia.com.au | M: 0412-114-383

leads to a beautiful moment instead of unnecessary banter, it is okay, 44 per cent of men said that they can handle the fight and would rather explain the truth of the matter to their partner than lie to them. Does it matter? Per the survey report, 52 per cent of people ranging from 25 to 30 years from tier 1 cities reveal that white lies are a part of their relationship. It does not define the relationship. There is nothing to feel bad about fudging the truth once in a while since it doesn’t affect their partner’s life. While taking responsibility for your actions is crucial, if a single meagre lie can save your partner from undue distress, would you not choose to lie over telling the truth? Ravi Mittal, Founder and CEO of QuackQuack, commented, “While lying is normal in a relationship, understanding the ‘why’ is pivotal. Are you lying to save yourself or your partner’s feelings? That can be the determining factor in deciding whether it is or isn’t okay to distort the truth.” (IANSlife)

Antibiotics in young kids can cause permanent asthma, allergies Early exposure to antibiotics kills healthy bacteria in the digestive tract and can cause asthma and allergies, claims a new study conducted on mice. The study, published in ‘Mucosal Immunology’, has provided the strongest evidence, so far, that the long-observed connection between antibiotic exposure in early childhood and later development of asthma and allergies is causal. “The practical implication is simple: Avoid antibiotic use in young children whenever you can because it may elevate the risk of significant, long-term problems with allergy and/or asthma,” said Martin Blaser, director of the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine at Rutgers University in the US. In the study, the researchers from Rutgers, New York University and the University of Zurich, noted that antibiotics, “among the most used medications in children, affect gut microbiome communities and metabolic functions. These changes in microbiota structure can impact host immunity.” In the first part of the experiment, fiveday-old mice received water, azithromycin or amoxicillin. After the mice matured, researchers exposed them to a common allergen derived from house dust mites. Mice that had received either of the antibiotics, especially azithromycin, exhibited elevated rates of immune

responses -- i.e., allergies. The second and third parts of the experiment tested the hypothesis that early exposure to antibiotics (but not later exposure) causes allergies and asthma by killing some healthy gut bacteria that support proper immune system development. Lead author Timothy Borbet first transferred bacteria-rich faecal samples from the first set of mice to a second set of adult mice with no previous exposure to any bacteria or germs. Some received samples from mice given azithromycin or amoxicillin in infancy. Others received normal samples from mice that had received water. Mice that received antibiotic-altered samples were no more likely than other mice to develop immune responses to house dust mites, just as people who receive antibiotics in adulthood are no more likely to develop asthma or allergies than those who don’t.

Things were different, however, for the next generation. Offspring of mice that received antibiotic-altered samples reacted more to house dust mites than those whose parents received samples unaltered by antibiotics, just as mice that originally received antibiotics as babies reacted more to the allergen than those that received water. “This was a carefully controlled experiment,” said Blaser. “The only variable in the first part was antibiotic exposure. The only variable in the second two parts was whether the mixture of gut bacteria had been affected by antibiotics. Everything else about the mice was identical. Blaser added that “these experiments provide strong evidence that antibiotics cause unwanted immune responses to develop via their effect on gut bacteria, but only if gut bacteria are altered in early childhood.” (IANS)

CAN EATING FRUIT MORE OFTEN KEEP DEPRESSION AT BAY?

Health tip:

T

People who frequently eat fruit are more likely to report greater positive mental wellbeing and are less likely to report symptoms of depression than those who do not, according to research. On the other hand, people who eat savoury snacks such as crisps, which are low in nutrients, are more likely to report greater levels of anxiety, said researchers from Aston University in the UK. Published in the British Journal of Nutrition, the study surveyed 428 adults from across the UK and looked at the relationship between their consumption of fruit, vegetables, sweet and savoury food snacks, and their psychological health. The results showed that both nutrient-rich fruit and nutrient-poor savoury snacks appeared to be linked to psychological health. But no direct association was found between eating vegetables and psychological health. “Very little is known about how diet may affect mental health and wellbeing, and while we did not directly examine causality here, our findings could suggest that frequently snacking on nutrient-poor savoury foods may increase everyday mental lapses, which in turn reduces psychological health,” said Nicola-Jayne Tuck lead author and doctoral student at the varsity. “Both fruit and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, fibre and essential micronutrients which promote optimal brain function, but these nutrients can be lost during cooking. As we are more likely to eat fruit raw, this could potentially explain its stronger influence on our psychological health,” Tuck said. Based on the survey, the more often people ate fruit, the lower they scored for depression and the higher for mental wellbeing, independent of the overall quantity of fruit intake. People who frequently snacked on nutrient-poor savoury foods (such as crisps) were more likely to experience ‘everyday mental lapses’ (known as subjective cognitive failures) and report lower mental wellbeing. A greater number of lapses was associated with higher reported symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression, and lower mental wellbeing scores. “It is possible that changing what we snack on could be a really simple and easy way to improve our mental wellbeing,” Tuck said. The Pros and Cons of All-on-4 Dental Implants

he secret to a sparkling smile is impeccable teeth. We know how much our teeth matter when it comes to looks and missing some of our teeth is not only bad for the looks but also affects proper chewing. It is a pain going through teeth loss, but on the bright side for those of us suffering from teeth loss, dental implants work just like natural teeth. Read on to know more about Allon-4 dental implants. Dental implants are teethrestoration treatment. It includes inserting tiny posts of titanium fused with other friendly metals into your jawbone in a quick surgical procedure. These posts serve as anchors for the overlay dentures, which are a set of artificial teeth for a whole jaw. To support the dentures, the dental implants are inserted into four places that are strategically designed. This method is known as All-on-4 dental implants. It takes a period of up to three-six months for healing after inserting the implants. Once the implants are fused in with the jawbone, overlay dentures are secured on them using screws. Let us look at some of the pros and cons of the All on 4 implants. PROS 1. Fewer Insertions All on 4 dental implants require minimum insertions. An overlay denture is supported by only four titanium implants. The positions of these implants are strategically designed to withstand all the chewing forces and pressures in the oral cavity. Other options of dental implants for multiple teeth include All-on-6 and All-on-8. 2. Enjoy All Your Favourite Food After getting All-on-4 dental implants, you can eat all your favourite foods that you could not do without the full set of teeth in your mouth. You must have craved some foods and drinks in the teethloss phase, and now you can eat them to your heart’s content. Just remember that the food should not be too hard to chew and clean your teeth after eating. 3. Better Aesthetics Dental implants look better than temporary dentures or other teeth restoration methods as they have a positive impact on your looks. Dental implants enhance your jawline and make you look younger. 4. Reduces Jawbone Deterioration The friendly amalgam of titanium

and other metals merge with the jawbone over time. This process is known as osseointegration. Due to the presence of these metals, the bone deterioration seen in normal individuals as a side-effect of aging can be reduced. 5. Better Longevity When cared for properly, All on 4 dental implants last much longer than other methods. There are even cases where dental implants have lasted a lifetime. 6. Easy to Care For Looking after All-on-4 dental implants is as easy as your natural teeth. A normal oral hygiene routine of brushing twice and flossing once a day would suffice. As they are not your natural teeth, any food particles stuck between the artificial teeth cannot decay them. However, care must be taken as the food particles can decay the tissues of your gums which can lead to a bad situation. CONS 1. Must be precise When going for All-on-4 dental implants, make sure you are consulting an experienced dentist since the success of dental implants depends greatly on the skill and expertise of your dentist. Dental implant surgery needs to be effective. Visit our dentists at Healthy Smiles Dental Group for a detailed analysis and check-up. Our expert dentists will be more than happy to help you out with your dental needs. Bottom Line As with any surgical procedure, the surgery for a dental implants procedure also has its risks and precautions involved. Make sure you follow the guidelines provided by the dentist. Father’s age affects success of IVF treatment

Women are not only responsible for the success of IVF treatment, and father’s age may also play a vital role than previously thought, finds a study.

The findings could help shape fertility advice for couples trying to conceive, challenging assumptions that a woman’s age should be primary consideration. Researchers analysed nearly 19,000 IVF cycles and found that for women under 35 or over 40, the age of their male partner made little difference to their chances of conceiving. But there was a “significant drop” in the live birth rate for women between the ages of 35 and 40 if their partner was 40 and above. “Clearly it is very important that we do not ignore the paternal age when it comes to educating couples about fertility outcomes,” Professor Geeta Nargund, medical director at IVF clinic group Create Fertility, and a co-author was quoted as saying to The Observer. “A woman’s age obviously plays a large role but not all the focus should be on her biological clock. Now we know that, for women in a certain age bracket, paternal age is more significant than previously thought when it comes to live birth rates,”

Nargund added. The findings revealed that for women aged between 35 and 40, the live birth rate dropped from 32.8 per cent when the paternal age was under 35 to 27.9 per cent when the paternal age was between 40 and 44. When male partners were over 55 years old, the live birth rate was 25 per cent.

Nargund said the study indicates that eggs from younger females have the capacity to “repair the much higher incidence of DNA damage found in the sperm of older males”. She also said the potential ability of both egg and sperm to “repair the effects of the ageing process” needs to be better understood, the report said. (IANS)

Type 2 diabetes is a significant global public health challenge and is projected to affect 693 million people by 2045. It is associated with adverse health outcomes including heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation as well as is one of the leading risk factors for premature mortality. The study, based on a meta-analysis of 27 trials published in Nutrition and Metabolism journal, showed that green tea intake had a favourable effect on fasting blood glucose concentration. How alcohol may benefit you if you are over 40

If you are over 40 and have no underlying health conditions a small glass of red wine, or a can or bottle of beer, or a shot of whiskey or other spirits may help reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes, according to a new analysis published in The Lancet.

1.82 for females).

However, the study showed that young people may face higher health risks from alcohol consumption than older adults.

On the other hand, the recommended amount of alcohol for people aged 15-39 before risking health loss was 0.136 standard drinks per day (a little more than one-tenth of a standard drink).

In particular, for males aged 15-39 drinking alcohol does not provide any health benefits. They constitute the largest segment of the population drinking unsafe amounts of alcohol and are at health risk, with 60 per cent of alcohol-related injuries occurring among people in this age group, including motor vehicle accidents, suicides, and homicides. “Our message is simple: young people should not drink, but older people may benefit from drinking small amounts. While it may not be realistic to think young adults will abstain from drinking, we do think it’s important to communicate the latest evidence so that everyone can make informed decisions about their health,” said Dr Emmanuela Gakidou, Professor of Health Metrics Sciences at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine.

For individuals over 65 years, the risks of health loss from alcohol consumption were reached after consuming a little more than three standard drinks per day (3.19 drinks for males and 3.51 for females).

That amount was slightly higher for females aged 15-39 years at 0.273 drinks (about a quarter of a standard drink per day). For the study, the team looked at the risk of alcohol consumption on 22 health outcomes, including injuries, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers using 2020 Global Burden of Disease data for males and females aged 15-95 years and older between 1990 and 2020, in 204 countries and territories. In general, for individuals aged 40-64 years, safe alcohol consumption levels ranged from about half a standard drink per day (0.527 drinks for males and 0.562 standard drinks per day for females) to almost two standard drinks (1.69 standard drinks per day for males and

The findings also suggest that global alcohol consumption recommendations should be based on age and location. One standard drink per day was found to be safe among individuals aged 55-59 in north Africa and the Middle East and about half a standard drink per day in central sub-Saharan Africa. Overall, the recommended alcohol intake for adults remained low at between 0-1.87 standard drinks per day, regardless of geography, age, sex, or year, the researchers said. (ANI)

LESS THAN 9 HOURS OF SLEEP MAY AFFECT KIDS’ MEMORY, MENTAL HEALTH Elementary school-age children who get less than nine hours of sleep per night have significant differences in certain brain regions responsible for memory, intelligence and well-being compared to those who get the recommended nine to 12 hours of sleep per night, according to a new study. Such differences correlated with greater mental health problems, like depression, anxiety, and impulsive behaviours, in those who lacked sleep. Inadequate sleep was also linked to cognitive difficulties with memory, problem solving and decision making. Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) examined more than 8,300 children aged nine to 10 years. They examined MRI images, medical records, and surveys completed by the participants and their parents at the time of enrolment and at a two-year follow-up visit at 11 to 12 years of age. “We found that children who had insufficient sleep, less than nine hours per night, at the beginning of the study had less

Wang, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at UMSOM. “These differences persisted after two years, a concerning finding that suggests long term harm for those who do not get enough sleep,” Wang said. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children aged six to 12 years of age sleep 9 to 12 hours per night on a regular basis to promote optimal health. Up until now, no studies have examined the long-lasting impact of insufficient sleep on the neurocognitive development of pre-teens. The researchers suggested parents promote good sleep habits in their children by making sufficient sleep a family priority, sticking with a regular sleep routine, encouraging physical activity during the day, limiting screen time and eliminating screens completely an hour before bed. gray matter or smaller volume in certain areas of the brain responsible for attention, memory and inhibition control compared to those with healthy sleep habits,” said Ze

HINDI FILM INDUSTRY NEEDS TO PULL UP ITS SOCKS: FARHAN AKTHAR Farhan Akhtar has said that while working in the superhero OTT series ‘Ms. Marvel’ was an amazing experience for him and people enjoy superhero movies, but Hindi film heroes have been doing what superheroes do -- that too a long time. “Our heroes have been beating up an array of bad guys and sending them flying in the air since time immemorial,” pointed out Farhan, who is well-known for cult hits such as ‘Dil Chaahta Hai’, ‘Lakshya’ and ‘Don’, and now for web series. Farhan was speaking during a conversation with The Russo Brothers, who were in Mumbai to promote their action film for Netflix, ‘The Gray Man’.

Bollywood has taken a beating of late as it faces stiff competition at the box office from superhero films and content coming from South India. Farhan, who also runs the production company Excel Entertainment with Ritesh Sidhwani, said that while Hindi films may not have big budgets to compete with content from Hollywood, the industry as a whole needs to pull up its socks. “We as India’s film fraternity may not have huge spending power on VFX or budgets like the films in the west, but we need to up our game as the audience now has access to content from all over the world,” the actor-director-producer concluded. Director Siddharth Anand says: “Deepika Padukone is a massive, massive star (I have to say it twice) and her presence in Pathaan makes our film even more exciting and grand. No one has yet seen her look in Pathaan and we are thrilled to present a glimpse of her in our action spectacle. Deepika has a fierce role that will blow everyone’s mind.” Anand claims that Deepika will have a magnetic aura in ‘Pathaan’. He says: “I have worked with her very early in her career and have seen her evolve over the years into a completely different and hungry actor. The first look of Deepika Padukone in Pathaan hints at her magnetic aura that people will be a witness to.” Anand feels Deepika is a true pan India superstar and her presence in ‘Pathaan’ makes the project supremely exciting. He says: “Deepika is a rare actor

with a pan Indian appeal like no other and having her in a film, looking the way she is, is a huge USP. We wanted to cast someone who has an appeal across gender and age and there is no bigger star in India today than Deepika Padukone. of Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29. The incident took place a day after his security was withdrawn by the Punjab Police among 424 others.

Salman had received a death threat from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang following which he met Mumbai police chief Vivek Phansalkar over the threat letter to him and his father. There had been reports that Salman has upgraded to an armoured and bulletproof Land Cruiser ever since the threats. Notably, Salman and his father Salim Khan had received a death threat on June 5, days after Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29.

The letter that the actor received in Hindi said that both Salim Khan and his son would soon meet the same fate as slain singer Siddhu Moosewala (‘Tera Moosawala bana denge’), said the police sources on condition of anonymity. As per the information received from Maharashtra Home Department, the reason behind the Bishnoi gang threatening actor Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan was to create an atmosphere to show their power.

Salim Khan’s security team found the letter outside their Mumbai home near the Bandra Bandstand promenade, where Salim Khan goes for his routine morning jog.

This is not the first time Salman has received threats. In 2018 when the trial of the blackbuck poaching case was underway, Bishnoi had allegedly threatened the actor because in his community blackbucks are considered sacred.

Even Hyderabad with its Awadhi cuisine has many eateries serving soft mutton galoutis with a smoky flavour. How are they made? Mohit: They are made from kheemapounded meat. The meat is ground into a fine paste and then added with ginger, garlic, poppy seeds and various combination of spices and then roasted. The resulting kababs are crispy on the outside but soft and silky when you eat them.

How did the Galouti Kabab come into existence? Mohit: Galouti kababs find their origin in one of Lucknow's popular Nawab’s menus, Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula. He used to love gorging on meat kababs and had a dedicated team coming up with different varieties of kababs for him every day. The team used to try exotic ingredients like rose, red ginseng, juniper berries and sandalwood to slow cook the kababs for the Nawab. However, as time passed and the Nawab grew older, his teeth became weaker and eventually, he lost his teeth. But, knowing the Nawab's love for good food and specially kababs, the chefs came up with something that would melt in the mouth without moving a single muscle. And that's how the most loved Galouti kabab was born!

Nourishing your gut, so

your gut can nourish you BY DEEVYA GUPTA

Within our complex and amazing bodies lie trillions of gut bacteria made up of 300500 different types, adding up to almost 2 million genes. Our body’s microbiota or microbiome is made up of these bacteria paired along with other living organisms, fungi and viruses, making each person’s microbiome unique to them. There are many factors affecting one’s microbiome in the gut and this may have an impact on a person’s overall health. Factors such as the environment of the mother at the time of birth, diet and lifestyle can contribute to these changes. The gut bacteria line the digestive system, live in the colon and intestines and can affect your mood, metabolism, immune system and even increase or reduce your chances of developing certain medical conditions. Certain concentrations of different bacteria may have different impacts on different conditions. More research is being done in this space. What can improve my overall gut health? Fibre rich foods such as wholegrains, vegetables, fruits, legumes (including lentils) and beans help feed the bacteria living in the gut. Go for foods that are least process as these will provide the most nutrition. Foods that are highly processed higher in sugars and fats may increase the growth of illnesscausing bacteria, therefore increasing

your chances of developing a chronic condition. Keep the skin on your fruits and vegetables whenever possible after giving it a good wash and go for actual fruits rather than the juices to get the most fibre from it. Some examples of specific fruits and vegetables include onions, bananas, beans, lentils, oats, soybeans, asparagus, broccoli and raspberry just to name a few. Other beneficial foods for the gut bacteria include fermented foods, yoghurt, probiotics. Have a variety of foods and not just the

same type frequently so that you are able to take in all the benefits of the variety you eat. The more variety of foods you eat, the more variety of gut bacteria you will be promoting and the more health benefits you may be able feel. Reduce your intake of high fat animal products such as fried foods or high fat dairy and red meats and keep these to occasional as these may increase the illness-causing bacteria if consumed too often. This goes for in general high fat foods, particularly fried foods and take away. Overdoing antibiotics when it is not necessary kills off both good and bad bacteria. Only use if really needed and advised by your GP. Exercise can also help promote gut health and increase the variety of bacteria you have within your gut. Other lifestyle factors such as sleeping enough, and reduced stress can also improve the overall gut health. The last thing to say here is watch this space- over the coming years we will be knowing much more than we do now about the gut microbiome. Please note this advice is of a general nature. If you have any concerns or queries you should get tailored advice from an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and always consult with your General Practitioner before making and changes.

Have a laug h

HAVE A LAUGH

Funny Facts:

The word “woman” is believed to have derived from the Middle English term wyfman, broken down simply as the wife (wyf) of man. Women never have anything to wear. Don’t question the racks of clothes in the closet; you ‘just don’t understand’ . Women do NOT want an honest answer to the question, ‘How do I look?’ When a woman dresses up to go out, she puts on a blouse first. Pants come second. Men work it vice versa. Women own only 1% of the world’s land Women can’t keep secrets. They eat away at them from the inside. And they don’t view it as being untrustworthy, providing they only tell two or three people. Finally, when an act of love ends, women do not feel like sleeping. They feel like talking and kissing. The two highest IQ’s ever recorded (on a standard test) both belong to women. The English word “girl” was initially used to describe a young person of either sex. It was not until the beginning of the sixteenth century that the term was used specifically to describe a female child When a woman answers, “I’m fine,” after a few seconds, she is not fine. Seventy percent of women would rather have chocolate than sex Women will drive miles out of their way to avoid the possibility of getting lost using a shortcut. The most embarrassing thing for women is to find another woman wearing the same dress at a formal party. If a man goes on a seven-day trip, he’ll pack five days’ worth of clothes and will wear some things twice; if a woman goes on a seven-day trip she’ll pack 21 outfits because she doesn’t know what she’ll feel like wearing each day. It’s cool to be a daddy’s girl. It’s sad to be a mommy’s boy
