On screen characters you didn’t know were Methodists

Fred Gwynne, the actor who portrayed Herman Munster, was a member of Sandy Mount UMC, and he is buried in a cemetery adjacent to the church.

Superman – also known as Clark Kent was raised Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Kents are Methodists, although Jonathan is not as regular a churchgoer as his wife. Supergirl – real name is Linda Danvers. Her minister, the Rev. Larry Varvel, was based on a real-life Methodist minister of the same name.

Jake Carne and Harry Richardson

In the British TV series “Poldark,” Methodist brothers Drake and Sam Carne run afoul of the local vicar when they start singing in church before the parish’s wealthy patron arrives. It’s fiction that echoes some of the same conflicts Wesley and his followers encountered.
