Zara Waller Editor-in-chiefThe KCF Rallysport winter stages took part on the 17th of June in the forests of Benarkin. Held by the Brisbane sporting car club this one day rally sprint featured three full stages and a fourth optional night stage being a perfect introduction into full format rally as well a great chance to test before the highly anticipated Accent Benchtops Rally Queensland later this month.
Saturday morning saw 28 teams head out from the service park and an early lead from club members Glenn Brinkman and Steven Richardson in the On the Brink Evo 9 until multiple punctures caused an early retirement for the team Ryan Williams and Brad Jones would quickly take over in a Subaru WRX STI until they too found themselves with a mechanical fault on the final stage pushing the team back to sixth overall But it would be an all Evo podium with Clayton Hoy and Erin Kelly in a Mitsubishi Evo 5 taking first outright, closely followed by Ian Menzies and Robert McGowan in the Bespoke metals Evo 9 and rounded out by John Bustard and Mel Bergmann in the Evo 7 of the late Ronnie Bustard. Fellow GCTMC member, Alan Kuss made his way up to 8th in his Subaru WRX and we also saw Colin O’Brien jump in for a ride alongside Dave Micjan working their way too 11th. With Rally Queensland just around the corner, which of these amazing crews have a chance at leading the QRC? For more information and full details on Rally Queensland visit www rally com au
Officially launched in 2006, Mountain Road Racing (MMR) now aims to introduce a significant number of Australian Veterans into the uplifting world of rally motorsport. The aim is to create and operate a competitive motorsport program that involves and builds a lasting legacy for Veterans.
After transitioning from his military career, founder Robert Kilsby, set to find himself a hobby which quickly became much more than that. Restoring a classic Alfa Romeo coupe, Robert found the Alfa Romeo Owners’ Club which led him towards the world of competitive motorsport.
From here, Robert competed in over 15 ‘major’ national Targa and Tarmac Rally event. In the 2005 Targa Tasmania he was inspired by a 2 Commando Regiment soldier and his mates, both of whom had been WIA in Afghanistan, and were competing alongside him in their Datsun 240Z, and in particular were supporting Legacy. This then became the drive behind the launch of Mountain Road Racing and its cause to assist Veterans in Motorsport.
More recently, the MMR team is working to build their crew of veterans with many key industry supports already in place They are putting final touches into Robert’s Alfa Romeo 147 GTA and are planning to have a second car on team by the end of this year. The team is ooking forward to competing in their first event later his year at the Snowy River Sprint out of Lakes Entrance n Victoria on the 9-10 September. To see more details, follow the journey of the Mountain Road Racing team, and to see if you can help in any way, head over to www.mountainroadracing.au and check out the program!
Early June saw the second running of the Future Auto Wynnum South East Queensland khanacross series. The weather gods shone upon us and saw an awesome day with 9 Runs for another sold out field. It was another victory for the Juniors against some top drivers. It was a tight battle for the top spot with 15 seconds separating the top 5. However, Jude Livermore was too quick for the rest taking the outright win also, claiming category B and G. Rounding out the top 3 saw Nick Reid in his Mirage and Kuss claimed third in his subaru wrx.
Rounding out class C saw Denis Baker in his 242 Volvo, Ian Griffin took out class D and Sally Martin took the win for the females category.

Age: 12
How long have you been involved with Motorsport and what started your journey in Motorsport?
I have participated in motorsport for 6 years, including Karting, off-road racing, Khanacross and Rally.
I enjoyed playing with cars and building Lego when I was little - Dad had a go-kart and I wanted to try it too. Once I got behind the wheel I was hooked and really enjoyed trying to get better and continue learning.
What is your favourite thing about the sport and community of Motorsport?
My favourite thing about Motorsport is that there are so many different vehicles in different disciplines and the opportunity to learn new skills in each one. I also really like the fact that we have our own little language and terminology in the motorsport community.
If you were to describe Motorsport in 5 words, what would they be? Fun, Exciting, Nerve-racking, Challenging, Physical
If you could dream big and pick a seat in any car as a career goal, what would it be? Competing in the WRC would be my ultimate goal - rally has the best drivers on the planet!
