DON’T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR THE P4S ELECTRICITY AUDIT!

After a comprehensive Electricity Pilot Audit conducted last year analyzing energy bills provided by 8 school districts, the OSC and partner Yankel & Associates identified a whopping $135,000 in billing errors that have been credited back to the participating districts. As a result of this success, the OSC has expanded the pilot program to incorporate all P4S school districts. To date, more than 30 districts have joined! There are no out of pocket costs to participate, and the process is easy! In the event the audit is successful in obtaining a credit, the credit(s) will be distributed as follows: 50% paid to the district* 30% payable to Yankel & Associates 20% payable to OSC *Districts will receive refunds via “Manual Credit Adjustment” on their utility bill. Non-P4S Members will receive reduced credit. Again, there are no out of pocket costs to participate. To see if your district qualifies for credits, simply complete the sign up form below. We will get started on your audit right away. For questions, please call or email Larry Tomec at ltomec@osconline.org.

GCSSA expresses Opposition to Ed Choice Scholarship Expansion; Application Period Moved to April 1 On January 24, the GCSSA and its membership of more than 100 superintendents in Northeast Ohio expressed to state leaders their overall opposition to charter, voucher and scholarship programs, including changes over the past five years to the EdChoice Program. GCSSA strongly disapproves of an expansion of public dollars subsidizing (fully or partially) private education and would support totally eliminating such subsidies. The letter, which was sent to state senate and house representatives, requested several revisions to the legislation.

Read the full letter here. On Jan. 30, the Ohio House voted 86-5 to push back the application window for the EdChoice Program to April 1, 2020. On Jan. 31, the Senate approved the House’s change. The date change will take immediate effect, thus delaying the new 2020-21 eligibility list from becoming active. While the best scenario would be to eliminate the program in its entirety, there are some ways the current program could be improved. We are hopeful that this extension will allow our leaders to discuss the bill more thoroughly and work to make the right changes to the EdChoice voucher program. We will keep you posted on further developments and thank you for your support.
