Honour FOR HER APPEAL
50 years of supporting her
For 50 years, GCRC has been alongside women and girls who have experienced rape and sexual violence, providing specialist support and advocacy to help survivors recover and move forward on their healing journey. GCRC’s work is grounded in the experiences of survivors and decades of specialist expertise. Its influence extends beyond Glasgow and Clyde, using that expertise to improve understanding, challenge approaches that fail survivors and influence change at a national, UK and international level. The 50th anniversary is a chance to recognise the women GCRC has supported and the people who have sustained its work over five decades, while looking ahead to what is, sadly, needed for generations of women and girls to come.

Honesty FOR HER APPEAL
Her need remains urgent Scotland has recorded its highest level of sexual crime since comparable records began, with rape and attempted rape also at their highest recorded level. GCRC sees the impact of that demand through its specialist services. Women and girls can be left waiting for the support they need at a time when they may already be dealing with trauma, fear, shame and uncertainty. The continued need for specialist rape crisis services reflects the scale of sexual violence facing women and girls. GCRC believes that society must confront the attitudes and behaviours that allow male violence against women to persist, alongside ensuring survivors can access specialist support when they need it.

Hope FOR HER APPEAL
Changing what happens next for her
GCRC cannot change what has happened to a survivor, but it can help change what happens next. Its vision is for a society where women and girls are equal and free from all forms of sexual violence. GCRC exists because sexual violence against women and girls remains a reality, but its ultimate ambition is to help create a society where specialist rape crisis services are no longer needed. That means building a future where women and girls can live free from sexual violence, fear and inequality, and where the attitudes, behaviours and systems that allow male violence against women to persist have been fundamentally challenged. Reaching that future requires action now: supporting survivors, challenging harmful attitudes, improving practice and using GCRC’s evidence and expertise to influence wider change. The anniversary marks the beginning of GCRC’s next chapter: supporting women and girls today while working towards a future where generations of women and girls can live free from sexual violence, and where organisations like GCRC are no longer needed.
