Artistic Director’s Note Welcome to our 2020-2021 Season! To be honest, about 6 months ago, I didn’t think I would be able to say those words! What a year 2020 has been and we couldn’t be more grateful for the continued support from our GCPA family.

As we discussed what this season would look like, the focus was on not only how but when to safely return to performance. In solidarity and respect for the entire theatre community that is suffering during this time and for the continued safety of our actors and staff, we knew taking it slow and being ready to pivot at a moments notice is the only way to move forward (and, of course, with heavy safety policies and procedures!)

Our first production, Flat Stanley Online Edition, is the ideal way to jump-start our season safely and also launch our new program: Theatre for Young Audiences by Young Artists. Fully rehearsed and performed from home, this family-friendly musical will entertain the whole family and classrooms across St. Louis. We have big plans for the TYAYA program and are ecstatic about this inaugural production!

To keep a safe distance from a lot of singing, live musicians, and live audiences, another GCPA first (the play Anne of Green Gables) was perfect for our winter slot! Anne’s spirit, joy, and ability to adapt to any situation is the perfect analogy for 2020. With options to live stream or record in small groups if necessary, we can’t wait to share this masked, streamed performance with you. Join us online in January 2021 for this classic tale!

With so much disappointment from the shutdown, we knew we had to get all of our postponed shows back on the schedule. Urinetown, Frozen Kids, Legally Blonde Junior, and Cabaret will finally get their time on stage. For Urinetown, the first to get the COVID boot, we have plans to produce this show no. matter. what. Depending on the current situation, we will be able to produce this show as normal, streamed to a virtual audience, or even rehearsed and performed remotely from home (another Zoom-sical!). Quickly after we announced the postponement, the cast took to the rallying cry, “Urinetown will live!” and we are happy to say that will definitely happen. Hail Malthus!

Being GCPA, you probably know we always go big. Already 6 shows deep, we aren’t stopping there.

In addition to the reboot of most of our 2019-2020 season, we are ecstatic to also produce: A spring Main Stage musical, the tap-dancing classing we’ve wanted to produce since we opened, 42nd Street, another middle school summer production, Godspell Junior; and Amélie - a 2nd high school summer production. Each of these shows was chosen to provide as many performance opportunities for our St. Louis youth when we are able to return to the stage.

While the future of live performance is still uncertain, I am ever-grateful that we are able to provide such an extensive season of opportunities for St. Louis youth. GCPA is growing and 2021 will certainly show that.

Director’s Note Edwina Spoonapple is full of talent: she sings, puts on mini musicals out of her garage, and gives advice to any neighborhood kid that is struggling for answers. But when she is surrounded by talented siblings who win awards in music, math, and sports, it just doesn’t feel like she measures up. What can she do to have something that can be put up on the fridge next to her siblings' awards? Get in the “Advice-a-palooza” show! The journey that Edwina takes through this musical helps her learn that life is not about getting ribbons and trophies. It’s about sharing love with those around you and getting to do what you love.

Dear Edwina: Online Edition is GCPA’s second TYAYA production. The term “TYA” comes from the Actors’ Equity Association contract title for the type of work the actor is doing Theatre for Young Audiences (we added the YA because it’s being performed with Young Artists). These contracts have jurisdiction over stories that are specifically written for children. It allows for kids to be exposed to performing arts at an early age, and being that kids consume entertainment in a different way than adults, the storytelling style an actor uses is a little different. It creates a heightened reality where characters are (many times) larger than life while still telling a story with a message. Being able to teach our young artists about this style of storytelling and the opportunities it provides for professionals has added a new layer to our programming, a new skill set for them, and in a platform that is currently required...Zoom!

Having a musical on Zoom creates its own unique challenges. Rather than having blocking to enter from stage left, they have to turn on their cameras at certain moments and in a particular order so that they can be displayed on the screen the way that’s needed. They need to mute their audio when not speaking so there isn’t extra background noise. Rather than having a sound designer to balance the accompaniment and the voices, each actor needs to act as their own sound designer. Any music that has more than one singer at a time needs to be pre-recorded with audio and choreography separately and then mixed together so the Zoom audience can hear everyone (rather than Zoom’s internal function of one audio input at a time). There are several positives to Zoom as well. Besides being able to “go to rehearsal” in the comfort of your own home and even in your slippers and pajamas, actors and artistic staff alike have learned many new skills that will provide useful even when we’re past the pandemic. There is also the added bonus that Zoom productions can be viewed by family, friends and schools near and far.

It has been a pleasure and privilege to tell this fun and uplifting story with this group of talented young artists. Thank you for spending some of your time sharing this journey with us, and “don’t think about prizes, just do what you love!”

Who's Who Coco Bland (Katie) is excited to be in GCPA's Dear Edwina. She just wrapped up GCPA's Anne of Green Gables, Variety Theater's Light the Lights and Ignite Theatre's Annie Jr. Her recent productions include Thoroughly Modern Millie and Legally Blonde (Kirkwood Youth Theater), Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast and Guys and Dolls (Ignite Theatre). When Coco isn't auditioning, rehearsing or Zooming, she can be found playing field hockey, dancing, perfecting her craft and entertaining her golden doodles. A special thanks to GCPA for allowing Coco to be a part of this amazing-palooza!

Mia Battaglia (Periwinkle) is in the third grade and so excited to be a part of Dear Edwina. She has performed with GCPA in Peter Pan Jr. and The Big One-Oh! (Jennifer). She was recently a part of the virtual productions Plays Children Love with Shooting Star Productions, and Variety Theatre’s Light the Lights. She is looking forward to performing live on stage again (hopefully!) in GCPA’s Frozen KIDS and Variety Theatre’s The Music Man later this year. She would like to thank everyone at GCPA and her family!

Holly Connor (Susie) is in the 10th grade, and thrilled to be in her second GCPA TYAYA production. A few favorite credits: Newsies (Medda Larkin), Mary Poppins (Bird Woman), A Little Princess (Queen Victoria), Wizard Of Oz (Glinda), The Addams Family young@part (Grandma), Shrek (Mama Ogre), and Titanic (Mme. Aubert). Holly’s a jazz pianist, sings opera, studies dance/acting, composes music, performs in choirs, and is a musical savant.

Holly is a member of the GCPA CrAFT College Program with plans to pursue a degree in vocal performance and possibly musical theatre. Being born blind and autistic, she shares her story to advocate for Awareness, Inclusion, and Acceptance within The Arts. “Thanks to everyone for their support, it takes a village."

Kaiya loves to sing and is a member of the Variety Children’s Choir. In her free time, she enjoys playing outside, being a Junior Girl Scout, reading, acting, being with family, and making creative inventions. She would like to thank GCPA for this opportunity as well as her family and friends for all their support and love. Enjoy the show!

Marchesa Dolton (Aphrodite), a 6th grader and GCPA Show Starter, is excited to be a part of GCPA’s second TYAYA performance.

Credits include: Jackson/Gendarme in The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley: Online Edition (GCPA), Ensemble in Legally Blonde: a Pre-Show Revue (GCPA), Young Nala in The Lion King Jr. (Shrewsbury Youth Theater), Ensemble in Freaky Friday Jr. (Shooting Star Productions) and various other Ensemble roles for Shrewsbury Youth Theater. She studies voice with Lisa Casciola and also plays piano. Many thanks to family, friends, directors and cast mates!

Sierra Hale (Lola) has been acting and dancing for 9 years. She has been in over 30 productions and loves to perform. Some of her roles include Lavender in Matilda, Queen of Hearts in Alice and Wonderland and Annie in Annie. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Nadja Kapetanovich (Edwina) is honored and grateful to be appearing in her first GCPA show. She is 13 years old and is in 8th grade. Nadja has been performing in ballets and theater productions since 2nd grade. Favorite past roles include Chip in Beauty and the Beast (Alton Little Theater), Dancer in The Food Monologues (Over Due Theatre Company), Melinda in Inherit the Wind (ALT), Princess Jasmine in Aladdin (Alton Middle School), Cinderella in Into the Woods (AMS), and Hermione Granger in A Magical Solstice with Harry Potter and Friends (ALT). Nadja wants to give a BIG thank you to all of her teachers and everyone she has had the opportunity to meet in the world of theater.

Who's Who Sam Koch (Cordell), a fourth-grader from Washington DC, made his St. Louis debut in GCPA's Summer 2020 Zoomsical production of The Big One-Oh! Sam has performed in school plays written and produced by Mr. King and Ms. Campbell, and he is a regular in NoteBUSTERS Spring and Fall concerts. Sam also prepared for a 2020 production of The Lion King Jr. When he is not singing, dancing and acting, Sam enjoys being with his family, riding his bike, and walking his dog, Zoe. He is very excited to be part of this play from Washington DC. Natalie Kuelker (Billy) is thrilled to be a part of Dear Edwina with GCPA! This is her eighth show with GCPA, and her eleventh show overall. Recent credits include Charley Maplewood in The Big One-Oh Online Edition (GCPA) and Ensemble in The Wizard of Oz (Ignite). Recently, she has studied ballet and modern at GCPA, as well as learning piano. Enjoy the show!

Olivia Loosemore (Napkin), a 4th grader, is excited to make her GCPA mainstage debut in Dear Edwina! Other credits Include: Brave Girl in Peter Pan Jr. (Ignite Theatre Company), Skater Dude in High School Musical Jr. (Shrewsbury Youth Theater), and Storyteller #1 / Duloc Performer in Shrek Jr. (Ignite Theatre Company). Olivia takes voice from Sarah Vlodek and participates in an array of classes at GCPA. When not on stage Olivia loves to write books, read, and go outside with her goldendoodle. She would like to thank her family, friends, directors and the entire cast for supporting her during this production.

Finley Mohr (Kelli), a 5th grader, is so excited to be in Dear Edwina! Credits include Ensemble in Flat Stanley: Online Edition and John Darling in Peter Pan Jr. at GCPA and several shows at her school and church.

Finley enjoys horseback riding, reading graphic novels and of course, all things musical related. Finley takes dance at the Dance Academy and sings in her school choir. This year, she has gotten to share her GCPA experience with her little sister, Cece.

She is so grateful for this experience, and thanks her directors and cast mates.

Emerson Mattia (Bobby) is overjoyed to be playing this roll in Dear Edwina. His GCPA credits include Winthrop in The Music Man, and an Ancestor in The Addams Family young@part, plus a future role in Summer 2021 (fingers crossed!) with Legally Blonde Jr. When he is not on the stage, Emerson enjoys jamming on the saxophone and keyboard, playing golf and tennis, and grinding on Fortnite and Rocket League.

Delaney McCoy (Becky), a 7th grader, is excited to be a part of Dear Edwina.

Credits include: Orphan in Annie (Muny), Lullaby League in Wizard of Oz (CMP), Hortensia and Matilda u/s in Matilda (GCPA), and most recently Ruth Begie in Anne of Green Gables (GCPA). She studies voice and dance at GCPA and is a member of the GCPA Show Starters. She is also a member of her middle school show choir and dance team. She would like to thank her friends and family for encouraging her to sing her own song and a special thanks to GCPA for giving her the chance to shine!

Adeline Perry (Annie), a 4th grader, is excited to be part of Dear Edwina: Online Edition. While this is her first musical with GCPA, previous credits include: Altar Girl in Sister Act and Female Modern in Thoroughly Modern Millie (Kirkwood Youth Theater). Adeline is part of GCPA’s Show Starters, studying voice with Ms. Kristianna Pirrie and dance with Ms. Laura Roth.

When she’s not belting out show tunes or dancing around the house, Adeline enjoys playing with her baby sister, caring for her guinea pig (Sr. Waffles) and creating all sorts of yummy food and drinks. Adeline is thankful for her parents’ encouragement, sisters’ patience and teachers’ guidance as she continues her path to stardom .AnnaKait Peters-Bahkou (Napkin) is an eighth grader at Christ Community Lutheran School and is excited to participate in her fifth production with GCPA and her third virtual production during this crazy pandemic. Originally from Texas, AnnaKait moved with her family to St. Louis in 2018. Her credits include: The Wizard of Oz, Rapunzel, A Musical Adventure, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka Jr., School House Rock Live, Into the Woods, James and the Giant Peach,

Kat Pentz (Johnny) is in 5th grade. She enjoys taking classes for improv and singing. She has participated in musical theater at GCPA in Annie KIDS, Jungle Book KIDS, Peter Pan Jr., and The Big OneOh. Her favorite role was Tiger Lily in Peter Pan Jr. She enjoys playing video games with her friends like Minecraft, Among Us, and Animal Crossing. She loves reading, especially Warrior Cats and Percy Jackson.

Kat is always singing while hanging out at home.

Charis Peters (Queen) is a Junior in high school, and this is her first production with GCPA! Previous credits include Glinda in The Wizard of Oz (Ignite), Morticia in The Addams Family (STLCC), Ellie in Courbet (Lindbergh HS), among several others. She currently takes ballet at COCA and studies voice. Thank you for supporting the arts!

Lillian Nord (Napkin), a 6th grader, is thrilled to be part of Dear Edwina: Online Edition! Credits include: Sister in Golden Goose & The Lady of the Court in Who Laughs Last (Shooting Star Productions), Michael in Elf The Musical Jr., Hortensia in Matilda, and the Sour Kangaroo in Seussical Jr. (Acting Studio Productions), among various other roles through the Fine Arts Academy she attended in Texas.

New to St. Louis, Lillian is looking forward to getting to know the acting community!

Lillian is taking voice with Katie Kopff, and she remains Zooming with her piano and dance teachers from Texas. She also really enjoys drawing Manga art and animating.

Cecilia Simpson (Lars) is very excited to be part of Dear Edwina: Online Edition playing Lars. She is 13 years old, and a 7th grader at Holy Cross Academy, Annunciation Campus. Cecilia loves to read graphic novels, watch movies with her family, have family game night, and take part in plays as well as classes at GCPA! She wants to thank the directors, cast, and crew for this experience. She has loved being part of this production!

Brooke Susic (Napkin), a 5th grader, is thrilled to join the cast of Dear Edwina: Online Edition! Her credits include: Ensemble in Oklahoma! and The Wizard of Oz and featured solo performer in Wishlist Cabaret (Christ Memorial Productions).

She studies voice with Lisa Casciola, ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop at Charmette Academy of Dance and plays volleyball. "After doing a couple of GCPA camps, I am really excited to be a part of this cast!"

Zain Thomas (Harry) is eleven years old and is excited to take on his debut performance with GCPA! Zain's favorite past role is Coalhouse Walker Jr.'s son in MICDS' rendition of the musical Ragtime. In his spare time Zain enjoys playing Fortnite, swimming, soccer and participating in the talent shows at his school. Zain wants to thank his Mom, Dad and siblings for their support and Stephanie, Lori and the entire cast and crew of Dear Edwina for putting on such a great show!

CREATIVE TEAM Stephanie Fox (Artistic Director) is ecstatic to be working on the second TYAYA musical!

Originally from Oklahoma, Stephanie graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Music: Music Theatre and continued her studies independently in New York. As a proud member of Actors’ Equity (Stephanie Long) she has performed regionally, on National Tour and in New York. Here in St. Louis, Stephanie has taught at COCA, STAGES, and is choreographer for Chaminade College Preparatory. She is humbled to work with

Who's Who the amazing young actors that pass through GCPA’s doors, both real and virtual. This one is for Trout - who Is really ready to be released from his quarentine.

Lori Barrett-Pagano (Managing Director) is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of GCPA. She earned her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Washington University in St. Louis.

She has been teaching voice for over 20 years – currently as an adjunct voice faculty at St. Louis University, as well as voice and classes at GCPA. Professionally, Lori has performed locally with The MUNY, STAGES St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, Echo Theatre, Spotlight Theatre, MainStage Musicals and SIUE Summer Showbiz. Regional credits include The Minnesota Opera, North Star Opera, Minneapolis Musical Theatre, Theatre in the Round, and The Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company. Lori is so proud of this cast and awed by their talent, hard work and dedication! Much love to her husband Paul, and her children Xavier and Kalia.
