Artistic Director’s Note Welcome to our 2020-2021 Season! To be honest, about 6 months ago, I didn’t think I would be able to say those words! What a year 2020 has been, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the continued support from our GCPA family.

As we discussed what this season would look like, the focus was on not only how but when to safely return to performance. In solidarity and respect for the entire theatre community that is suffering during this time and for the continued safety of our actors and staff, we knew taking it slow and being ready to pivot at a moment's notice is the only way to move forward (and, of course, with heavy safety policies and procedures!).

Our first production, Flat Stanley Online Edition, is the ideal way to jump-start our season safely and also launch our new program: Theatre for Young Audiences by Young Artists. Fully rehearsed and performed from home, this family-friendly musical will entertain the whole family and classrooms across St. Louis. We have big plans for the TYAYA program including adding a second production, Dear Edwina Online Edition!

To keep a safe distance from a lot of singing, live musicians, and live audiences, the play Anne of Green Gables (another GCPA first!) was perfect for our winter slot! Anne’s spirit, joy, and ability to adapt to any situation is the perfect analogy for 2020. With options to live stream or record in small groups if necessary, we can’t wait to share this masked, streamed performance with you. Join us online in January 2021 for this classic tale!

With so much disappointment from the shutdown, we knew we had to get all of our postponed shows back on the schedule. Urinetown, Frozen KIDS, Legally Blonde Jr., and Cabaret will finally get their time on stage. For Urinetown, the first to get the COVID boot, we have plans to produce this show No. Matter. What. Depending on the current situation, we will be able to produce this show as normal, streamed to a virtual audience, or even rehearsed and performed remotely from home (another Zoom-sical!). Quickly after we announced the postponement, the cast took to the rallying cry, “Urinetown will live!” and we are happy to say that will definitely happen. Hail Malthus!

Being GCPA, you probably know we always go big. Already 6 shows deep, we aren’t stopping there.

In addition to the reboot of most of our 2019-2020 season, we are ecstatic to also produce a spring Main Stage musical, the tap-dancing classic we’ve wanted to produce since we opened, 42nd Street; another middle school summer production, Godspell Jr.; and Amélie , a second high school summer production. Each of these shows was chosen to provide as many performance opportunities for our St. Louis youth when we are able to return to the stage.

While the future of live performance is still uncertain, I am ever-grateful that we are able to provide such an extensive season of opportunities for St. Louis youth. GCPA is growing and 2021 will certainly show that.

Director’s Note How do you go about telling a story that is a literary classic, has had multiple film and screen tellings, and is still avidly discussed in fan blogs? A story people are so enraptured by that they watch the entire miniseries while in labor (true story, and it’s one of our GCPA moms). Well, you do what everyone else does...tell the story through the lens of your interpretation.

As I dug into the story, one given circumstance stood out regarding the timeline.

Anne and her friends age from middle school to graduating high school during the story. When telling the story with children and adults, that’s a pretty simple timeline to create. But when telling the story with a youth theatre company, it becomes a little more difficult to maneuver. In order to honor the timeline of the story, I went into the process knowing Anne’s classmates would have a ‘young’ version and an ‘old’ version to demonstrate their aging. I also anticipated this for Anne as well. However, when actors submitted their auditions, I saw there was the possibility that Anne might be able to be played by one actor who could straddle the age-line. And that’s the route I chose for a couple of reasons. First, it highlights the skillset of the actor playing Anne, and second, it provides better continuity for the audience. So, what you’ll see in this telling of Anne of Green Gables is a character shift early in Act 2 where I believed the story had a transition from the younger version of the characters to the older version.

As I mentioned before, there is so much written about Anne of Green Gables. Doing research on the story can suck you into an abyss of insights and interpretations. And in doing so it can paralyze an artist making them feel they have to tell the story “correctly.” Right from the beginning we set the tone that there is no right or wrong in telling the story, there is only play. And we did. We tried all kinds of things during rehearsal simply to see what happened. Some of it worked wonderfully well. Some of it led to other discoveries. Some landed in the category of, “well, that was fun but not quite where this story lives.” All of it was fun and provided learning opportunities about ourselves as artists and storytelling in general.

It has been an honor to work with this group of young artists. It has not been easy as COVID capacity restrictions have not allowed the entire cast to be in the same space until we got into the theatre. In some cases, we had to have rehearsals with some actors live in the acting studio and some actors on Zoom. But no matter what the challenge, these young artists were ready to make the best out of the situation because there is something greater than the challenges brought about by COVID-19, and that’s the importance and impact of storytelling.

Who's Who Holly Berman-Carter (Mrs. Blewett, Miss Susan Stacy) is a Junior and is thrilled to be a part of the Anne of Green Gables cast in her first GCPA production. Credits include: The Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland JUNIOR and Shenzi in Lion King JUNIOR with Shrewsbury Youth Theater. Holly takes hip-hop and musical theater dance at COCA , tap with Michelle Bjorkman through Outschool and studies voice with Virginia Keeffe-Shwartzman.

She’s a competitive gymnast and also plays violin. She is very thankful to her family and friends for supporting her.

Coco Bland (Minnie Mae Barry) is excited to be in GCPA's Anne of Green Gables. She just wrapped up Variety Theater's Light the Lights and is currently rehearsing for Ignite Theatre's Annie. Her recent productions include Thoroughly Modern Millie and Legally Blonde (Kirkwood Youth Theater) and Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast and Guys and Dolls (Ignite Theatre). When Coco isn't auditioning, rehearsing or zooming, she can be found playing field hockey, dancing, perfecting her craft and entertaining her golden doodles. A special thanks to GCPA for allowing Coco to be a part of this amazing community.

Finley Carfield (Young Josie Pye) is a fourth grader at Bristol Elementary and is delighted to be part of her first GCPA mainstage production. Past roles include Wendy in Peter Pan JUNIOR and part of the ensemble in Jungle Book. Finley is so happy to be playing Young Josie Pye and is especially excited her sister will be playing the older version. Finley would like to thank her family, her “bosom friend” Eloise, and of course her cat Rodie for supporting her.

Sloane Carfield (Old Josie Pye) is a freshman at Webster Groves High School and is thrilled to continue her work with the GCPA community. She fell in love with the company three years ago, when she got to play Ermengarde in A Little Princess.

Since, she loved being part of GCPA’s Music Man. Sloane would like to thank her family and friends and is excited to be joined on stage by her sister Finley for the first time.

Dominic Del Pietro (Stationmaster, Reverend Bentley, President of Queens Academy, Mr. Sadler, Old Charlie Sloane) is

ecstatic to be a part of this amazing show.

His previous shows with GCPA include Mr. Wormwood in Matilda, Piragua Guy in In The Heights, Harold Bride in Titanic, and more. He has also been in Freaky Friday at Shooting Star, Once Upon A Mattress at Visitation Academy and others. He is very glad to be doing shows at GCPA and is excited and ready to do more. When in these troubling times, Dominic is happy and ready to be working with GCPA! Libby Edison (Tillie Boulter) a 6th grader, is excited to be part of GCPA’s first ever play.

Some of her favorite GCPA shows include Matilda (Amanda), Peter Pan JUNIOR (Tiger Lily), Jungle Book KIDS (Mowgli), and Titanic. She studies both dance and voice, and is a member of Show Starters. She loves all things theater, and has missed the excitement of stage performance. Thank you to GCPA for this opportunity.

Ellemieke Ferguson (Bessie Wright) is delighted to be joining the cast of Anne of Green Gables as Bessie Wright. This is her 2nd show with GCPA (Legally Blonde Revue). Credits include Jojo in Anything's Possible (Overdue Theatre Company), The Just So Stories, A Christmas Carol, and Freaky Friday (Shooting Star Productions), Lion King JUNIOR, Beauty & the Beast JUNIOR, and Aladdin JUNIOR (STAGES).

Ellemieke has been part of the Arch City Kids Theater Troupe for the last 2 years.

She loves to play field hockey, takes voice with Katie Kopff, and dances at COCA. In her free time, she enjoys skateboarding and playing with her dogs! Ellemieke is thrilled to be working with GCPA again and is grateful for the opportunity!

Cooper Gardner (Young Gilbert Blythe) is a 7th grader excited to be a part of Anne of Green Gables. He always jumps at the chance to be in new plays and productions.

Cooper enjoys babysitting his neighbors and siblings, and loves to read, play video games, and learn French.

Drew Goldman (Matthew Cuthbert) is a senior at Parkway Central High School and is so excited to be making his first GCPA performance! Drew plans on studying music business/production in college and hopes to continue his theatre career. His past shows include Noises Off

Who's Who (Fredrick/Phillip), Chicago the Musical (Ensemble), Radium Girls (Tom), and I Don't Want to Talk About It (Kyle). Drew is also looking forward to portraying the role of Herr Schultz in GCPA's production of Cabaret!

Lily Griner (Old Ruby Gillis) a 9th grader, is excited to be playing Old Ruby Gillis for Anne of Green Gables. She has previously appeared in GCPA’s productions of Flat Stanley: Online Edition, A Legally Blonde Revue, The Addams Family, Titanic, The Music Man, A Little Princess, Thoroughly Modern Millie, & White Christmas, and has performed with Shooting Star and Shrewsbury Community Theater. A dancer since age 4, Lily currently studies dance, vocal performance, and acting at GCPA, and she crafts, bakes, and is proud to always be true to herself! Lily thanks everyone for their support.

Liv Hand (Rachel Lynde) is very excited to make her debut with GCPA in the company of this amazing cast of Anne of Green Gables. A senior in high school, she enjoys playing the upright bass, singing with Katie Kopff and dancing at GCPA. Favorite credits include: O’Shaugnessy in Is He Dead (Whitfield School); Sarah Brown in Guys & Dolls (Whitfield School); Frog in A Year With Frog and Toad (Shooting Star Productions). "Thrilled to finally join the GCPA crew!"

Michael Hobin (Young Moody McPherson) a 4th grader, is excited to play Young Moody McPherson in the GCPA production of Anne of Green Gables. Michael has also recently enjoyed his roles as Monsignor O'Hara in Sister Act JUNIOR (Kirkwood Youth Theater), A Boy in A Christmas Carol (Shooting Star Productions) and ensemble roles in Peter Pan JUNIOR and Seussical the Musical. Michael enjoys taking dance and acting classes through GCPA, the Muny, and Krupinski dance academy. To my cast mates, break a leg. To my family and friends, thank you for your support.

Brea Johnson (Prissy Andrews, Aunt Josephine Barry), is a 9th grader who has enjoyed being a part of many shows including Anything Goes, Matilda and working with Arch City Theatre Troupe. Her favorite roles have been Maria (West Side

Story) and Little Red (Into the Woods). Brea enjoys reading, drawing and painting. Brea would like to thank her family, fans and directors for supporting her!

Trixie Kohlenberger (Old Diana Barry), a 9th grader, is thrilled to be making her GCPA debut in Anne of Green Gables! Credits include: Youth Ensemble in A Chorus Line (MUNY), Junie B. in Junie B. Jones (Althoff Catholic School), and the Diction Coach in Singin' in the Rain (Looking Glass Playhouse). She has also performed with Arch City Theater Troupe since 2019. She studies dance at Belleville School of Ballet, tap under Lara Teeter and Kelly Ging, voice under Jamie Eros, and acting under Cooper Shaw. She loves to read, bake, and practice guitar when she is not performing.

Gigi Koster (Young Diana Barry) is a 7th grader and thrilled to be a part of another GCPA production. One of her highlights was playing a student in last year’s Matilda.

Other previous credits include Helen in A Christmas Story (The Rep) and Ensemble in Evita (The Rep). She enjoys singing, dancing, and acting and spending time with her friends. She is currently loving skateboarding during the pandemic.

Ariana Kroeger (Marilla Cuthbert) is thrilled to be in GCPA's first mainstage straight play! Some of her other favorite roles include Kate Mullins in Titanic, Katherine in Newsies, and Erzulie in Once on This Island.

Ariana is super grateful to GCPA for providing ways to keep theatre alive during this pandemic. She would also like to thank her cats for putting up with her loud singing and unwanted cuddles.

Charlie Mathis (Young Charlie Sloane) is excited to return to GCPA after revolting in Matilda! Charlie has appeared at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis as Ralphie In A Christmas Story and Dill In To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as Ozark Actors Theatre as Michael Banks in Mary Poppins.

Charlie studies voice with Dr. Jeffery Carter and dance with his mom. Besides making character come to life on stage, Charlie

Who's Who enjoys playing football and baseball and college football, fantasy sports and hanging out with his five siblings. Charlie is always excited to work with the directors, cast and crew at GCPA

Annalise McCann (Mrs. Barry, Marilla US) Annalise is a senior in highschool. She is thrilled to be in GCPA’s first play! Her favorite roles she’s played are, the Narrator in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Becky Two Shoes in Urinetown, and Velma Kelly in Chicago.

Annalise was recently admitted to NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and plans to get a BFA in Musical Theatre. She is so grateful for the support her teachers, friends, and family have given her.

Ian McCann (Mrs. Barry, Matthew US) is a high school sophomore and thrilled to be in his fourth show at GCPA, following roles in Titanic, Matilda, and Urinetown. He is in his fourth year of studying voice with Jill O’Brien, through Webster University’s Community Music School, and his third year of acting classes at GCPA. Delaney McCoy (Ruth Begee) a 7th grader, is excited to be a part of Anne of Green Gables. Credits include: Orphan in Annie (Muny), Lullaby League in Wizard of Oz (CMP), Hortensia and Matilda u/s in Matilda (GCPA). She studies voice and dance at GCPA, is a member of Show Starters at GCPA, her middle school show choir and dance team. She would like to thank her friends and family for all their support and a special thanks to GCPA for this wonderful opportunity.

Brooke Moll (Old Jane Andrews) is delighted to make her GCPA debut in Anne of Green Gables. Previous credits include Town Librarian in Unplugged (Parkway Central Middle School), Lion in Peter Pan (Spotlight Productions), and Starfish in The Little Mermaid JUNIOR (Spotlight Productions).

Her technical theatre experience includes stage managing Frozen JUNIOR and working on hair and makeup for Bye Bye Birdie (Parkway Central Middle School). Brooke dances at GCPA and loves all sorts of creative pursuits such as drawing, cooking, and making lip gloss. Brooke sends thanks and love to her family for all their support.

Brodie Pratt (Old Moody McPherson) is very excited to be returning to the stage with GCPA and to be a part of the first GCPA play. Some of his previous and favorite parts include Ensemble in Lion King (COCA), Storyteller/Featured Dancer in Once on This Island (COCA), Big Kid/Henchman in Matilda (GCPA), and Splasher in Newsies (Wydown) along with many others. Brodie is so thankful for the continuous support from his friends and family and hopes that you enjoy the show!

Sarah Richars (Mrs. Rogerson, Mary Jo, Mrs. Allan, Old Anne US) is so excited to be back for her third production at GCPA! Some of her previous credits include Diane Roeder in Radium Girls (Cor Jesu), Passengers/Crew in Titanic (GCPA), and Co-Director/Co-Host in Ten Ways to Survive Life in Quarantine (Cor Jesu). She studies acting at GCPA and voice with Jenny Schaeffer. Sarah would like to thank the cast, crew, and creative team for their hard work and her friends and family for their support. Abby Rosenfled (Young Ruby Gillis) is super excited to be a part of Anne of Green Gables. Credits include: Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda (Wydown Theatre), Ensemble in The Music Man (GCPA), Lucile in James and the Giant Peach Junior (GCPA) and Ally in I Don't Have a Clue (Wydown Theatre). She would like to thank everyone for supporting her, and the directors for this great opportunity!

Mackenzie Sampson-Walk (Anne Shirley) has been with GCPA for 6 years. Some of her favorite shows she’s done are White Christmas (Rhoda), Violet (Assistant Director), and Spring Awakening (Ensemble and U/S Thea). She’s extremely excited to be making her lead debut as Anne and would like to thank her GCPA family and friends for making it possible.

She would also like to say thank you to her parents and grandparents for pushing her to follow her dreams.

Audrey Schulz (Young Jane Andrews, Young Anne US) a 6th grader, is so happy to be in Anne of Green Gables! Audrey dances, acts and sings at her beloved GCPA. She is in Show Starters and studies

Who's Who voice with Kristianna Pirrie. Her favorite GCPA roles include Cousin Sophie in Flat Stanley, Alice in Matilda and, Captain Hook in Peter Pan JUNIOR. "Thanks to everyone who made it possible for us to do GCPA's first play!"

Spencer Slavik (Jimmy Glover), sixthgrader, is thrilled to be part of the cast for Anne of Green Gables at GCPA. He had a blast with GCPA's Matilda cast as Tommy, and as Captain Hook in Peter Pan JUNIOR. He has also worked with Goshen Theatre Project as a tap-dancing seagull in The Little Mermaid JUNIOR, and played the role of Randy in the play A Christmas Story at The Rep. He was also in Hairspray JUNIOR at Kirkwood Youth Theatre.

Spencer is a proud member of GCPA's Show Starters performing group. He loves to play piano and sing with his school choir.

Spencer’s favorite subject is Social Studies, with Math a close second, and wants to be an engineer/inventor when he grows up.

He enjoys volleyball, basketball, and building with Legos. He is a member of the Humane Society Shelter Buddy Reading Program, which gives comfort to shelter dogs by reading to them, reducing anxiety, helping them get adopted.

Paul Thibodeau (Old Gilbert Blythe) an eighth grader, is thrilled to be a part of Anne of Green Gables! Paul’s credits include: Captain Hook in Peter Pan (Shrewsbury Youth Theatre), Papa Bear in Shrek the Musical (Kirkwood Youth Theatre), and the Escapologist in Matilda (GCPA). He studies voice with Lori Pagano and Acting with Paul Pagano. Paul thanks his family, friends, and cast mates!

Evelyn Vordtriede (Carrie Sloane), a 10th grader, is thrilled to be a part of her first GCPA production. Evelyn has been a part of A Chorus Line (Ignite Theatre Company), The Music Man (Variety Theatre), and Newsies (Spotlight Productions) among many others. She has been taking vocal training for 4 years, is a part of her school’s A Cappella group, and is a board member of her school's International Thespian Society. Many thanks to the GCPA directors, cast, and crew who have made this show a reality.

CREATIVE TEAM Ashleigh Blevins (Marketing Director) Ashleigh Blevins (Marketing Director) has performed and taught professional voice and theatre for over fifteen years, the most favorite stint being her twelve years in St. Louis, in which she entered as a co-founder this grand experiment we all now know and love as GCPA. Originally Education Director, Ashleigh then added Marketing to her contributions, which she now gratefully continues from a distance, having relocated to Salt Lake City, UT for new jobs and family opportunities. She currently lives with her husband, fivegoing-on-fifteen-year-old-daughter, and infant son, all who keep her plate and heart beyond full. She loves being a part of the GCPA family, even from far away. She doesn’t sleep, be nice to her.

Hope Brazel (Stage Manager) is a proud GCPA alumni last seen in their production of Spring Awakening (Adult Female) and Crazy For You (Mitzi/Polly u/s). After graduating high school, Hope took a gap year to pursue a career in Musical Theatre. while taking classes at Webster Conservatory, she also spent lots of time at GCPA teaching Musical Theatre Performance and stage managing the company’s main stage shows The Music Man, Titanic, and Matilda. In the future, she is looking forward to moving to New York to work and share the storytelling and creativity that the wonderful team at GCPA has helped instill in her Stephanie Fox (Artistic Director) is adjusting to not choreographing her first Main Stage production! Originally from Oklahoma, Stephanie graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Music: Music Theatre and continued her studies independently in New York. As a proud member of Actors’ Equity (Stephanie Long) she has performed regionally, on National Tour and in New York. Here in St. Louis, Stephanie has taught at COCA, STAGES, and is choreographer for Chaminade College Preparatory. She is humbled to work with the amazing young actors that pass through GCPA’s doors, both real and virtual. This one is dedicated to Moose and his new brother, Trout.

Who's Who Tracey Newcomb (Costume Design) has had the privilege to work with St Louis area theatre for the past 10 years. She has won 2 AFL awards for best costume and has been nominated for several more. She works with several different theatre groups as well as schools. She is the costume designer for the City of St Charles for their festivals Legends and Lanterns and Christmas Traditions. Tracey has costumed GCPA’s shows since 2015 and has enjoyed the opportunity to work such great talented staff and youth. Tracey lives with her husband Paul and youngest daughter Brooke. She has 4 other adult children and 2 granddaughters that own her heart.

Paul Pagano (Director and Executive Director), a native of St. Louis, received his BA in Drama from Washington University and Masters in Theatre Education from Fontbonne University. As a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association since 2001, Paul has had the opportunity to work with the Guthrie Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Children’s Theatre Company, Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, Hey City Theatre, the MUNY, STAGES St. Louis, HotCity Theatre, and many others. As a director and fight choreographer, in addition to 19 productions (and counting) at GCPA, credits include the MUNY, Washington University, Fontbonne University, Missouri All-State Theatre, and Kirkwood Theatre Guild. As an instructor, Paul has taught at GCPA, COCA, St. Louis University High School, and STAGES Performing Arts Academy. Love to wife, Lori, and kids, Xavier and Kalia!

Lori Barrett-Pagano (Managing Director) is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of GCPA. She earned her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Washington University in St. Louis.

She has been teaching voice for over 20 years – currently as an adjunct voice faculty at St. Louis University, as well as voice and classes at GCPA. Professionally, Lori has performed locally with The MUNY, STAGES St. Louis, Union Avenue Opera, Echo Theatre, Spotlight Theatre, MainStage Musicals and SIUE Summer Showbiz. Regional credits include The Minnesota Opera, North Star Opera, Minneapolis Musical Theatre, Theatre in the Round, and The Gilbert &

Sullivan Very Light Opera Company. Lori is so proud of this cast and awed by their talent, hard work and dedication! Much love to her husband Paul, and her children Xavier and Kalia.

Abbey Paul (Assistant Stage Manager, US Rachel Lynde and Mrs. Barry) is a sophomore in high school and this is her first experience as an assistant stage manager. She has participated in GCPA shows (most recently Urinetown), has taken classes with GCPA for about 2 years, and she is a member of CrAFT. Jim Mozley Robert (Sound Design) has been working for GCPA since their production of Carrie at Chaminade. He is currently the TD and teaches a Tech Theatre class at CCPSVCPA. He is working on his Bachelors in Technical Direction at Webster University. He has worked for such companies as Carnival Cruise Lines, Nebraska Theatre Caravan, The MUNY, Opera Theatre St Louis, and Opera New Jersey. Jim has been and continues to be blown away by the scale, professionalism, and execution of the shows GCPA produces.

George Shea (Set Design) George is a St. Louis based set/scenic, prop, costume, and cosplay designer. He has had the pleasure of designing sets and building props for local and regional theater. Most recently George has designed sets for Chaminade College Preparatory School, NGTC/Vivre’ Theatre, West End Players Guild, set and props for Fly North Theatricals, as well as Bluff City Theater’s complete 2019 Season.

George has designed and built props for Marquette High School theatre. Through the years George has also designed and built numerous props and dance costumes for Motion Express School of Dance and Acrobatics. George is grateful for the opportunity to design the Anne of Green Gables set for GCPA, and looking forward to working with the team again!

Laura Skroska (Props Design) Laura Skroska is excited to be returning for her eighth show with GCPA. Laura studied technical theatre at Northwestern University and SIU-Edwardsville, and received her MFA in Painting from .

Fontbonne University. Laura also works as Technical Director for the New Jewish Theatre.

Other recent credits include Scenic and Props Design for St. Louis Shakespeare Festival’s TourCo, Props Master for Winter Opera St. Louis, and Shakespeare in the Park. Laura would like to thank her husband, family, and pet rabbits for their love and support.
