We Are Excited about what God is doing. Artists this year represent 24 countries around the world, accumulated more than 2.1 million votes, participated in 30+ music/ ministry categories, grew the size of the Facebook group membership past 4k, attended the GCMA information Zoom call in record numbers, and continually post artist and ministry information daily. I thought it was time to share some of who I am to help you with “Understanding My Why” for the Gospel Choice Music Awards.
I was born the youngest of three boys and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. I accredit and owe my drive and perseverance all to a mother that always encouraged my best in everything I did. I graduated with an Associate’s from Capital Community College in Computer Information Systems, Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from the University of Hartford in Psychology and Organizational Behavior. Growing up in Connecticut was not always easy, invaluable lessons and examples of faith, endurance, and perseverance were constantly encouraged by my mother and aunt.
Memories as a young boy, attending Faith Seventh Day Adventist Church, being a member of the Children’s Choir directed by my cousin, who later ignited a passion for gospel music, encouraging my musical gifting, and launched my leadership in music ministry. While a rich history of preaching pastors added a great deal of influence in my Christian walk, they also imparted wisdom and heightened my consciousness on the importance of service to God and mankind. A number of exemplary mentors steered the helm and showed me the importance of true leadership and service to those in need.
Over the years, I believe God influenced my impact on the gospel community causing it to grow tremendously as a singer, choir director, leader, and entrepreneur. Having relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, I not only served regularly as a choir director, but also as the CEO of ChurchBlast, a social media advertising agency for small and medium size churches as well as the founder and CEO of the Gospel Choice Music Awards, serving independent gospel artists, praise dance and mime ministries across North America and around the world. God gave me the XChange Magazine and Indie Exchange Live as extensions of the platform offering additional exposure opportunities to the artists we served. I love to sing, directing choirs, and positively impacting the lives of those I encounter.
Why do I do it? I understand many of the challenges in the gospel music industry. One in particular that I desire to change for the independent artist is the difficulty with getting ministry exposure and expanding their personal/ministry network. “Many of these indie artists don’t have the budgets nor resources to secure mainstream air time. My aim and desire is to provide education, exposure, ministry opportunities, and recognition for independent artists throughout the United States and across the seas.” Imagine networking with five indie artists like yourself and you each vow to support each other Your ministry has potentially grown 4 times the reach in new areas. If you duplicate that process, you’ll see what God can dot. We can do it together.
Artists interested in the Gospel Choice Music Awards should like and follow the Gospel Choice Music Awards Facebook group/page for up to date information on nominations, voting and the participation process. Individuals and organizations desirous of information about sponsorship opportunities should contact Jeffery at (678) 568 -9441.
The most powerful things on earth are not nuclear, atomic or biological, but the most powerful things on earth are words. Words can destroy, words can create, words can encourage, words can discourage, words can build up and words can tear down.
John’s Gospel lets us know in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Words are so powerful that God used words to create everything that exists. In fact, in Genesis chapter 1 it says nine times, “And God said…” And when God said, He used words. A word is defined as something said and something uttered. And the words that we say and utter have tremendous power. According to a Wordstrated.com study, the average US adults have a 30,000-word vocabulary. The study also showed that the average person speaks around 16,000 words in a day, with females (16,215 words) and males (15,699 words). The average person was found to spend 1 hour and 54 minutes a day speaking. Since speaking words is such a major part of our day, it is imperative that we realize the power of our words. Hebrews 11:3 says, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God…” And not only did God’s words frame the world, our words frame our world. Every day the words that we speak frame our days. It is a good practice to start your day and say, “Something good is going to happen to me today.” Those nine words will make a difference in your day.
Words Matter Week, in its 16 th year, is a holiday that is celebrated annually the first full week of March, and the National Association of Independent Writers and Editors are among the growing many that support this annual celebration of words. Mohammed Qahtani (a world champion of public speaking) said, “Words have power, words are power, words could be your power…” The Bible tells us that “…the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 Jesus even commended a centurion (a soldier; professional of the army) in his day for recognizing the power of words. The centurion’s servant was sick of palsy, a disease that caused a loss of sensation or the power of motion or both, in any part of the body. After hearing the servant’s condition, Jesus started to walk in the direction of the centurion’s house. But, the centurion stopped Jesus on the way and made a profound statement that showed his faith. The centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” (Matthew 8:8)
The reason this centurion soldier believed in the power of words was because he spoke words to those under him and by his words things happened. The centurion realized that Jesus had authority over the sickness of his servant, and he believed enough to simply ask Jesus to “speak the word only.”
Do you have something in your life that is troubling you and keeping you from having peace. I recommend that you speak the Word of God over that situation, and watch the Word work. Just a Word will do.

Hey BlueMile Family! There have been a lot of conversations around how the Gospel Music industry is changing along with its music. Under the four main genres of Gospel music Traditional, Quartet, Contemporary, and Praise and Worship there are a plethora of sub-genres. From Gospel Soul, Gospel Reggae, Gospel Hip Hop, to CCM (Christian Contemporary Music); you name it, the gospel music industry has expanded its repertoire. Gospel music is often connected to its ability to convey genuine spiritual and emotional experiences. Some would argue that if the song doesn’t have that raw, unpolished sound, it is not authentic. In the gospel music industry’s current state of multiple genres, there’s a sound for everybody. Even in this, does gospel music still have the foundation of its original intent?
Why do we ask this question? Is it because some may say the music rides a thin line to the world? Is it because some may say it’s more about the business of making music than the message? Or, some may even say that God is lost in the midst of it all. These are just thoughtprovoking questions. Something to research. Something to think about.
Now let’s look at the song “Oh Happy Day.” It was considered the standard for contemporary gospel music. Can you imagine? “Oh Happy Day!” The Edwin Hawkins Singers were ostracized for this song. This song was very controversial during this era. Some church leaders didn’t embrace this new style of music because it was so close to what was considered “worldly music.” The song “Oh Happy Day” was featured in many movies such as “Sister Act II,” commercials, and even received a Grammy. It made you want to clap your hands and do your dance, some would say. Just like some of the current gospel music today. Another question! If a song conveys a secular commercial sound, other than a traditional sound, have the lyrics and the message lost their foundation? No! Although gospel music has evolved over the decades, infusing various styles such as R&B, hip hop, and pop, we believe this is necessary to reach a broader audience and convey the message of faith, hope, and God beyond the church walls.
The business aspect of gospel music cannot be ignored either. As the industry grows, there is a need to balance mainstream success with spiritual integrity. This balance is delicate and often leads to the perception that the message is less important than the business. Yes, the gospel music industry is a business, but there is still ministry in our music. Sometimes we are the only light the world will see in this music industry. We have to make sure we are solidified in our walk and are not easily persuaded to lose focus on the assignment. It is possible to have mainstream success and still maintain the authenticity of gospel music.
So, the question again, does gospel music still hold its original intent? The answer may vary depending on whom you ask. While the styles and sounds may evolve, the heart of gospel music remains the same. Its core mission of spreading the message of faith, hope, and love remains unchanged. The intention to worship and spread the Gospel continues to be the driving force behind the music.
Blue Nugget: Keep God in your music. It may be the only people see.

I am Malentha Renee Robinson-Taylor, an alumna of Ruffin High School, where my journey began, modest yet ambitious. I earned my Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. This June, I will be proudly accepting the 2024 Ministry Help Award. My life is beautifully shared with my husband, Reginald Robinson-Taylor, for 33 years, and together, we have raised four wonderful daughters. Living by the motto “Embrace Your Journey,” I have navigated through life’s ups and downs with faith and resilience. A pivotal moment in my life came in May 2016, when I found myself stepping into a federal prison in Aliceville, Alabama. This experience, though challenging, deepened my commitment to my life’s motto, fueled by the belief in a divine plan of hope, prosperity, and a brighter future.
After my release from prison, having served three and a half years, I embraced a new chapter by founding my own business, Magical Creations, a venture specializing in T-shirts and crafts. My company goes beyond the ordinary; it offers a range of services aimed at helping businesses amplify their brand through custom designs. Magical Creations is a testament to the power of transformation and the spirit of entrepreneurship, symbolizing my continuous journey of embracing every chapter of my life with courage and purpose.
Apostle James L. Parker
“Through Him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.” Romans 1:5
Apostle James L. Parker is a faithful husband, father, soldier, teacher, preacher, counselor, and scholar to multiple individuals, families, and communities in the US and beyond. Throughout his 47 years in ministry, he has helped to transform lives with the gospel through intense mentorship and discipleship. His fervor for spreading the truth of God’s Word began during childhood. James was raised Baptist in Lagrange and Atlanta, Georgia.
He was recognized as a gifted child at an early age. After graduating from high school with honors, James studied physics at Clark Atlanta University. In the 1960’s, he left Clark Atlanta and joined the Marine Corps. He served his country in the Vietnam War until it ended in 1975. He often testifies that his relationship with God is what carried him and his fellow soldiers through tumultuous times both during and after the war. Upon returning to US soil, he worked as the Crew Chief and Radiation Safety Officer at Fermilab Nuclear Power Plant in Batavia, IL. Not long after moving to Illinois, he met and married his beautiful wife, Diane. Together, they have worked tirelessly in the ministry. Through dedication and servitude, they have taken the gospel to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, prisons, homeless shelters, conferences, churches, colleges, court houses, and government meetings.
Apostle Parker continues to serve as the pastor of Christ the Fountain of New Life Church in Jackson, MS. The definition of an apostle is literally, “one who is sent.” Apostle James L. Parker’s life continues to be an example of faithfully going where you are sent and sowing seeds along the way.

GCMA X-Change Magazine is thrilled to present a glimpse into the musical the world of The Patricks, a talented family quartet group from Memphis, Tennessee. The Patricks, featuring father Frankie Patrick and son Carlos Patrick, have been performing together since the early 1990’s. The Patricks were originally known as Frankie & Divine. After taking a 25-year hiatus, they've come back with a new generation of members (Christopher Holmes and Caanin Foster) and a new album that showcases their anointing and passion for gospel quartet music.
The Patricks come from a rich musical heritage, steeped in the tradition of gospel quartet music. They are inspired by Sam Cooke & The Soul Stirrers, The Pilgrim Jubilees, The Canton Spirituals, and The Sensational Williams Brothers. Their new album, Legacy, is a testament to their commitment to preserving timeless melodies while also infusing them with a contemporary flavor that appeals to audiences of all ages. The result is a seamless blend of traditional and contemporary sounds that truly showcases their versatility and talent as singers/ musicians.
The Patricks Legacy album features two songs that were originally recorded by music icons Marvin Gaye and Al Green. “Going Through” from Marvin Gaye’s classic “Cleo’s Apartment” and “Jesus Will Fix It” from Al Green have been reimagined in a unique way that pays tribute to the influential legacy of both while adding The Patricks signature sound.
The Legacy album features good gospel songs like Here I Am, Touch Me Lord, Glory, Glory, I’ll Fly Away, and Wait On Jesus featuring the late great Elder Melvin Rodgers. Elder Melvin Rodgers is best known for his feature on Rev. Clay Evans and The AARC Mass Choir’s hit song He’s Battle Axe. The album also features their dynamic single With All I Got. With All I Got is currently charting on Mediabase.
The Patricks shared an interesting story from the legendary quartet singer George Dean of The Gospel Four. George explained that gospel music icon, Frank Williams once offered some wise advice. Frank suggested that gospel music writers should always write songs that will resonate well in church on Sunday mornings. You see, Frank Williams believed that if a song is received well on Sunday morning, then you have a good song. The Patricks wrote the Legacy album with Sunday morning in mind.
“After over 25 years experience in the music industry we decided not to sign a major deal. We trusted God and released our indie project through our label Chispa Music Group. It was the perfect decision for us. God has allowed us favor after 25 years, our season is here and we praise God everyday for his blessings. Our mission is to lift up the name of Jesus through gospel music and let the world know that there is joy in serving and praising our God”,
says Pastor Carlos Patrick.
The Patricks are now being streamed from Spain to Johannesburg, from England to Mexico, from Milwaukee to Meridian, from New York City to Birmingham, from New Orleans to Minneapolis, from Louisville to Tulsa, from Nashville to Memphis, from Baltimore to Orlando from Chicago to Winchester- according to Apple Music statistics. Carlos Patrick is excited about preparing for an upcoming trip to Lagos, Nigeria this summer.
We are thrilled to have The Patricks back on the scene, sharing their love for gospel music with us all. If you haven't already checked out their Legacy album, we highly recommend giving it a listen!

Kelly Davis was born November 9th, 1990 on the west side of Chicago, Illinois. He has had a passion for dancing since the age of five. During his time of birth, the city of Chicago was at its peak in the areas of gang violence, gang affiliation, drugs abuse, and poverty. Amidst all of the chaos and dysfunction, he found the love and passion for dancing.
From the ages of 9 to 12, he performed at events like, block club parties, school pep rallies, school events, Cease To Fire organization picnics, and showtime at the Apollo. Kelly has had the privilege of sharing the stage with household names such as Rick Ross, T-Pain, Flo Rida, Twister and many others. He also had the honor of being a backup dancer for Chicago’s very own Ben 1.
Between the ages 12 to 17, Kelly started his music career and hip became his new love. “I discontinued my love for dancing around the age of 17 and God reawakened my gift when my mother (Lynita) told me that God showed her in a dream that I was praise and mime dancing for the Lord” before she went to be with the Lord. Mr. Davis wasted no time perfecting his gift and starting back to ministering. He no longer wanted to dance and perform in the secular industry, but now as an ambassador for Christ, and continually seeks to win souls to the Kingdom of God through the expression of praise dancing and worshiping.
Kelly Davis created a praise dance group with his wife Niya Davis in 2022. They both have been grateful and fortunate to dance and minister for numerous events from retirement parties, funerals, celebrations, weddings, school events, church events, and awards platforms. They have ministered for Smokie Norful and now are excited to be here ministering for the Gospel Choice Music Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bible verses Kelly lives by
• But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
• A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
Proverbs 18:16
• But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
• Before I formed you in your mother's womb I chose you. Before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
• Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalms 23:4
My music journey started like most young people, with a calling in their lives. I was playing for the senior and junior choirs at 9 years old. School band trumpet player, I loved playing trumpet, I played in the military as well, And served as Minister of Music for several churches on the East Coast. I have played all genres of music, there is nothing like
The music business is hard no matter the genre, especially with the internet, and social media. A musician has to have his own studio, be his own engineer, learn to mix and master his own material, and still, there are no guarantees someone will ever hear what God has placed in your spirit to tell His people. Now Indie artists have an outlet, Indie Radio and TV is coming on with a Bang, it’s making more noise than most people realize, WORLDWIDE. Thanks to the efforts of Ms. Donna Walton Of The DWGN The Donna Walton Gospel Network, yes, there are others, but they don’t have me Tony D. Kelly as their Executive Director, as an artist and producer, I also have the opportunity to serve THE DWGN RADIO. It is an absolute Honor and Pleasure, to be able to put the artists that desire to be head on the radio a chance to be in our rotation.

Thanks to God’s people for tuning in every week. Thank you, Lord for putting Donna in my Life’
