Welcome to the 2023 Gospel Choice Music Awards

We Are Excited about what God is doing. Artists this year represent 27 countries around the world, accumulated more than 1.8 million votes, participated in 30+ music/ ministry categories, doubled the size of the Facebook group membership, attended the GCMA information Zoom call in record numbers, and continually post artist and ministry information daily. I thought it was time to share some of who I am to help you with “Understanding My Why” for the Gospel Choice Music Awards.

I was born the youngest of three boys and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. I accredit and owe my drive and perseverance all to a mother that always encouraged my best in everything I did. I graduated with an Associate’s from Capital Community College in Computer Information Systems, Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from the University of Hartford in Psychology and Organizational Behavior. Although growing up in Connecticut was not always easy, invaluable lessons and examples of faith, endurance, and perseverance were constantly encouraged by my mother and aunt.

Memories as a young boy, attending Faith Seventh Day Adventist Church, being a member of the Children’s Choir directed by my cousin, who would later ignite a passion for gospel music, encouraging my musical gifting, and launched my leadership in music ministry. While a rich history of preaching pastors added a great deal of influence in my Christian walk, they also imparted wisdom and heightened my consciousness on the importance of service to God and mankind. A number of exemplary mentors steered the helm and showed me the importance of true leadership and service to those in need.

Over the years, I believe God influenced my impact on the gospel community causing it to grow tremendously as a singer, choir director, leader, and entrepreneur. Having relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, I not only serve regularly as a choir director, but also as the CEO of ChurchBlast, a social media advertising agency for small and medium size churches as well as the founder and CEO of the Gospel Choice Music Awards, serving independent gospel artists, praise dance and mime ministries across North America and around the world. God gave me the XChange Magazine and Indie Exchange Live as extensions of the GCMA platform offering additional exposure opportunities to the artists we served. I love to sing, directing choirs, and positively impacting the lives of those I encounter.

Why do I do it? I understand many of the challenges in the gospel music industry. One in particular that I desire to change for the independent artist is the difficulty with getting ministry exposure and expanding their personal/ministry network. “Many of these indie artists don’t have the budgets nor resources to secure mainstream air time. My aim and desire is to provide education, exposure, ministry opportunities, and recognition for independent artists throughout the United States and across the seas.” Imagine networking with five indie artists like yourself and you each vow to support each other Your ministry has potentially grown in new areas. Repeat that that process and watch God do it. We can do it together.

One of the greatest powers that has been unrealized, unutilized, and underrated is the POWER OF YOU. “In case no one has told you lately, you are amazing, strong, brave, wonderful, kind, loved, worthy-and there is no one like you. The world needs you.” (Jacquelene Hayes)

Each of us has at least 3 YOUs that play a part in our lives: the YOU that you see, the YOU that others see and the YOU that God sees. First the YOU that you see. French mathematician and philosopher Rene’ Descartes coined the Latin phrase, “I think, therefore I am.” The Book of Proverbs says, “…as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” The scriptures and Descartes are on the same page, because self-perception is a key factor in forming who we are and who we will ultimately become.

A recent study published in Scientific American magazine concluded after testing two groups of people with different expectation levels in each group concerning a test administered, that those who expected less from the testing performed lower than those who expected more positive results from the test. The difference was expectation. Those who did not do well with the test were given information prior to testing that lowered their expectation that anyone would do well on the test, and the other group was given information prior to testing about how well they were expected to do on the test. Several other group studies were done, and the conclusion was, “Your thoughts can release abilities beyond normal limits.”

The second YOU that affects us is the YOU that others see. This you is key, because it can be beneficial or detrimental. If you surround yourself with encouragers, and those who will feed you the Word of God and words of encouragement, it will help to push you forward. But, if you surround yourself with people who are negative or too analytical, this can cause you to question moving by faith and obeying God. Usually, God does not ask us to do something that makes sense or that we can figure out. When Moses and Israel came to the Red Sea and had nowhere to go, God told Moses in Exodus 14:16, “…lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it.” When they ran out of wine at the wedding in Cana, Jesus told the servants to, “fill the waterpots with water.”(John 2:7) When Jesus was walking on the water, and Peter wanted to walk on the water to go to Jesus, Jesus said, “Come.”(Matthew 14:29)

Looking at all three of these instances in scripture, the action that God asked to be done did not make sense. Stretching out a rod over the Red Sea, when you need Transformers to fight off Pharaoh and his army does not make sense. When you need wine, what sense does it make to fill up waterpots with water; you either need to go downstairs to the wine cellar or to the spirits store on the corner. Also, if you want me to walk on water, please tell me where to step so I won’t drown. All three instructions did not make sense. But, the hearer needed simply to obey. Moses obeyed despite his surroundings of unbelief, the servants obeyed and filled the waterpots with water (when they needed wine), and Peter stepped out of the boat on one word, “Come.” When humanity trusts and obeys divinity, there are no limits.

Now, the last YOU that is key is the YOU that God see you as. This is the most important YOU. If we can align our thoughts and actions with this YOU-there is no limit to what God will do through us. There are so many names and descriptions that God has given us as believers that this article cannot express them all. Names like: Anointed, Beloved, Blessed, Children of God, Elect of God, Heirs of Promise, Justified, Overcomer, Reconciled, and Regenerated. So, let’s look at two names for believers: children of promise and more than a conqueror. The Bible says in 2nd Corinthians 1:20, “… all the promises of God in Him are Yes...” There are 8,810 promises in the Bible. Of those promises, 7,487 are promises from God to humanity. That’s you and me. Galatians 4:28 says, “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.” Also, God sees you as being more than a conqueror. Romans 8:37 says, “…in all things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” A conqueror is one who is victorious and defeats, but you and I are more than just a conqueror through Christ.

Now, if we can align the YOU that we see and the YOU that others see, with the YOU that God sees, we can have God’s best for our lives. Many times we are waiting on God, but more often God is waiting on us. Don’t expect God to do what he said YOU can do, because of the POWER OF YOU.

How Are You Holding Up

Hello to our beloved Gospel Choice Music Awards Family. Here we are again in the Blue Zone. Let’s chat and go a little deeper. How are you holding up? On this musical journey we encounter ups and down, twists and turns, peaks and valleys (ooohhh what a rollercoaster)….and NOW we’re in the Post Pandemic Era. It has been three years since the pandemic hit our world in an unimaginable way. The music industry literally shut down! All tours halted, bookings cancelled, and a push to create other ways to stay relevant. From being isolated within the four walls of our homes, practicing social distancing, and not being able to exchange a hug, to moving to a Post Pandemic Era has created our new normal. WOW, to say the least…. but we made it!

As we stated in our previous article, mental health is very important for a successful career in this industry. Navigating through our new normal now that we’re in the Post Pandemic Era has been challenging for some. For the introvert, this may be your happy place, sitting in a quiet space, setting up virtual calls, or sitting in the back of a room away from the masses. But, what about that extrovert? The one who thrives better in large crowds, networking and engaging with everyone in the room. To do or not to do, now that is the question… It is a “Tug of War” between the former pandemic practices and navigating through this new normal. How do we reset our minds from virtual venues to live and in person venues? How do we get back to interacting with our fans and peers outside of social media? What has the new normal done to our mental health? What has it done to our emotional health? The past experiences of loss due to COVID, illnesses due to COVID, and just the way we do business because of COVID, has cause some of us to not go deeper in interacting with others. Fear and hesitation have paralyzed us because COVID still exists. How are you REALLY holding up?

As artists and industry execs, adapting to this new wave of virtuality, social media marketing, and other online avenues to push the work we have been assigned, has put some of us in a frenzy. Oh, how our economy has been affected by this new normal. Some had to discover new ways to gain resources because this industry had become a sole source. A sole source for income, a sole source for friends, even a sole source for a sense of connection and family. Whew! How many can say, “It really was by the Grace of God”! Know this my brothers and sisters. You are not alone! We are ALL our brother’s and sister’s keeper! Hebrews 13:16 (NLT) – “Do not forget to do good and to share with others in need. These are the sacrifices that please God”. At the end of the day, know God cares for YOU and put us all together to lean on each other. 1Peter 5:7 (NLT) – Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you! So, the question is – How Are You REALLY Holding Up?

Gudfella Studios a Christian based facility that caters primarily to the Christian Artist. We are a “One-Stop” shop studio. That means anything from photo shoots to album cover art, we can connect you with a network of people that can assist you with those needs. Gudfella Studios aim is to provide a place and an atmosphere where Christian artist could come and record their music without the uneasy feelings that I, myself felt when I was recording at other studios before starting to record my music on my own. My previous experiences are what fueled my desire to open up my own recording studio and be a help to those seeking to display their gifts and talents of music.

What I am most proud of is that I get the opportunity to help the creative minded individual come closer to their dream of making music.

I wish that I could say it was easy for me to be where I am today with Gudfella Studios. This business journey was and still is a challenge at times. Sometimes you get more no’s than yes, but I’ve come to an understanding that it comes with the territory. What I have to offer the world is not for everyone. I had to learn quickly that the competition is real and that no one starts a business to lose. Every business wants to win. What has helped me to overcome the many challenges I have faced in business is my faith in God, the faith that others have in me to be successful and the positive feedback I receive from satisfied clients. One thing that I have learned over time is that success is work. It doesn’t happen overnight. Some people make it look easy because they’ve been doing it a lot longer than others. Continue the grind no matter what the odds against you look like.

The survival of any tragic incident denotes, there is a "God" somewhere. It's not often we are able to speak about tragic occurrences and be such a remarkable blessing to others because of their survival. The purpose of God for your life must be fulfilled. Many people have endured severe uncomfortable states in their life. However, the survival and the process of recovery are tremendous. One of my favorite sayings is, “The Pain of the Process is worth the Power of the Purpose." Many can attest to the fact that we have experienced some troublesome periods in life. The effects of those troublesome periods made us ashamed, embarrassed, disappointed, caused us to shut in, stay at home, live in seasons of lack, etc. We cannot forget the purpose of our life was declared before the foundation of the world. Even though we go through many twists and turns in life, in the end, we will return to our ultimate purpose.

Testimony: October 4, 2010, was a life changing event for me. I was diagnosed with double pneumonia, which caused me to be hospitalized for 30 days. I suffered memory loss for 2 weeks, I had no activity in my legs, which caused me to be immobile. I questioned God, "Why?" I realize we have been taught not to ask God-"Why?" The theme of the book of Job prompts the question - "Why do the righteous suffer?" How do I keep my belief system or faith up when what I have prayed to God to do for others, and it happens for them, but it doesn't work for me? I was speaking to my legs (in the name of Jesus) to walk, and nothing was happening. My healing had not come, because God had a particular time of exit from this situation.

He who made time, is never late because of time. Also, He is never threatened by time. Therefore, your relationship with God cannot be threatened by what you are going through. He is still God. I believe it is an indictment to die with our God-given purpose unfulfilled. To know one's purpose is to know who they are and what they are doing. Therefore, we must have the determination to accomplish what it is that we are purposed to do. Do you know your purpose? Do you understand the purpose? Only you can answer those questions!!

Let’s hear from the Creator’s Girls on how they juggle life.

Keli B Being a Creators Girl: Hi my name is Kelisha aka; Keli B, and I am one of the co-hosts of the Creators Girls Talk Show! I was beyond honored and excited to take on this assignment with my other sisters on the show. I am the baby in the crew, so I glen and learn from my sisters on a daily. I have been married now 7 years, going on 8, July 4th, 2023, and I have three handsome boys, Kwontis 16, Kingston 5, and Kongo 2 months. Oh yeah, and I moved away last year from Gary, Indiana, to Mesa, Arizona, to reconnect with my husband and family on a deeper level. I can say that being a mother, wife, and minister while going to online college and keeping up with the show has always been a challenge for me with finding the balance and giving everything attention that’s needed. However, I can say that self-care and prayer are the tricks! I am still learning how to take the rush out of my spirit, as my sister Pastor Annie has taught me. I take my time now and ask the Holy Spirit to help me. I also took a year off the show to move and get situated with my new baby.

Being a Creators Girl is a part of my upcoming career, besides my writing and singing, which I took a break from as well. The Lord told me to refocus, reset and rest! How many of us ladies are taking the time to have a resting season? We are always doing for others and can burn ourselves out at times. So I went through a lot of emotional breakdowns during the time of COVID, and I had to reconnect with my husband and mostly myself. Every show with The Creators Girls, I began to struggle because I was too caught up in my life affairs, but almost every topic we would shed light on the talk show; would help me to talk some things out and get other prospectives really help me to face my challenges at home. This year I am determined to take my role seriously and apply the wisdom that comes from this show to my daily walk. We are a group of women who are human, but the God in us allows us to stay ready to talk about anything. I read my word, and I will pray in an instant for myself or anyone who needs it or to thank God for being so good to me! This is why I know that the Holy Spirit is behind us. All because I never know what I’m about to say, but I have a word in me, and I know other young women need to hear my voice, and this is why I choose to shine my light on the show with all the other bright from My sisters.

Melissa: as a married, God-fearing women, we navigate the delicate balance of fulfilling multiple roles in our lives. We are wives, nurturing the foundation of our marriages with love, understanding, and partnership. We are mothers, nurturing and guiding our children, ensuring their well-being and growth. We are ministers, providing spiritual guidance and support to our communities, and we are career-driven professionals pursuing our passions and ambitions outside the confines of our homes.

In the midst of juggling all that we do, it is essential that we remember to prioritize ourselves. It is sometimes easy to lose sight of our own needs and aspirations while tending to the needs of others. However, self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. By taking out moments for ourselves and spending that quiet time in the presence of God when needed, we are replenished. Being strengthened and reminded of what is needed within ourselves to be encouraged to continue to fulfill our roles. Whether it's through ladies’ outings, engaging in hobbies, or seeking support from our loved ones, or being engaged in healthy conversations such as Creators Girl Talk, we must always prioritize self-care to maintain our well-being and prevent burnout. By staying grounded in God, we become better equipped to fulfill our roles as wives, mothers, ministers, and professionals, finding fulfillment in all aspects of our lives without losing sight of who we are as individuals.

Rochelle: My name is Annie “Rochelle” Pugh-McGuire, and I am a member of the New Divine Truth Apostolic Church(NDTAC) family and hold the position of Vice President on the church board. I was elevated to the office of Elder and appointed as one of the church’s Executive Pastors. Although I have a full-time job working for United Airlines as a Corporate Safety Specialist, I am active in ministry and considered a full-time worker. Typically, my daily ministerial duties include contact with my pastors, leaders in the ministry, and church members. Within these conversations, I am providing administrative updates regarding church functions, missions, outreach programs, and possible needs of parishioners. Generally, our services are on Sundays and Tuesdays; on Saturdays, we serve food to the community and have a choir, praise team, and worship dance rehearsal. I am blessed to be part of each department in one facet or another and enjoy my work, whether big or small because I can experience God’s work in the present day.

My home life is very peaceful, as there is daily Intercessory Prayer and Bible Study. There are prayer spaces and reminders of Christ throughout my home. I am married to Elder Danny McGuire, who is also an Executive Pastor at New Divine Truth Apostolic Church. In addition to his ministerial job duties at the church, he oversees the Men’s Ministry, and we conduct Intercessory Prayer collaboratively at home and church. Daily we participate in a prayer walk, and we affectionately call it “Walk &Worship.” In the future, people will be able to call in with prayer requests or be part of the intercession. Due to my Master of Arts program at Wesley Seminary, we spend much time discussing subject matters, coursework, and how all of this relates to God and current work in the ministry.

I really don’t know how we juggle everything, but the two scriptures that stay in the forefront of our lives are Matthew 28:20 and Philippians 4:13, which highlight God always being with us and that We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Annie Jones - As a Wife, Mother, Pastor, Student, and friend there are a lot of things on my plate. However, having a committed prayer life and a belief in a big God I have come to find that I need to take one task at a time. I also rely on some of the wise counsel that are around me, like the Creator's Girls, that are a constant reminder of how we are never alone. The topics we talk about on our show are a sounding board for women everywhere that the enemy has led to believe they are alone. No, sis, you are never alone. We are all going through things too or have been through, and since our motto is that "We can talk about ANYTHING!" we do just that. Having sisters in Christ who stand on the promises of God and depend on the power of God, we can give testaments to other sisters and brothers that all of our ability is grounded in the finished work of Christ. We can do all things, ALL things, through Christ who strengthens us. –

...had a gift for songwriting long before the world knew. Growing up in a family of 11 siblings, music became an outlet for him. David was exposed to the Gospel greats, including the works of Andrae Crouch, Walter Hawkins, Richard Smallwood, Percy Bady and Fred Hammond. Beginning at an early age, David wrote poetry that he used as a base to construct his song. Sensing a need to encourage his passions, his mother sent him and his sister to music lessons.

David initially took to playing drums while his sister started playing piano, and he soon started copying what he heard his sister playing during her piano lessons. The instructor noticed this and informed his mother of his substantial progress. David switched from drum lessons and started instruction on the Hammond organ. He excelled at the organ and quickly elevated to teacher's assistant, working with new students. He began playing for his home church at the age of 12.

David's instructor Roberta Clark sought to further David and asked his mom if she could take him under her wing and mentor him as a church musician at a very large church on Chicago's Southside named Miracle Temple. His mother readily agreed. It was during this time that David started developing his songwriting ability. David practiced many of his compositions, first teaching them to the youth choir at his home church Prayer Band Pentecostal without informing them that he had written them. His early works were sung in churches, and they were well received. Committed to studying and enhancing his gift, he traveled across the country, gaining knowledge from the workshops and seminars offered by Ron Winans, Michael Brooks, John P. Kee, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America.

After forty years of service as a church musician, David decided to present and releases his inaugural single 'I Remember You' (2022). With over 100 songs in his arsenal, he wanted his first release to hold a special sentiment. David released I Remember You as a tribute to his mother, who passed away in 2012. The single is featured by recording artist BJ McKenzie David also presents another single, Bow To You', which he "wrote as a prayer for God to rescue us in these perilous times. It is to let Him know that through it all we know that He is yet sovereign, and we will continue to worship Him as such" David shares. The song is beautifully performed by the lead singer, Tysings, and The Epoch House Choir from Nigeria.

Pleased with his musical journey thus far, David knows something greater is in store in the days and years ahead. IJN

A native Texan, but she was educated in the Minneapolis school system, and attended the College of St. Mary’s. Pastor Body was ordained in 2001 and installed as the Pastor of the One Accord Community Church, by her late husband, Bishop T. A. Body, Sr., PhD.

As a leader, Pastor Body’s mission is to strengthen the Body of Christ, through the Word of God, as well as to empower and educate women in ministry and to help cultivate the ministry of young people. She realizes such success in these areas of ministry as a pastor, a speaker and counselor. Pastor Body is also the Director of Women’s Ministry of the Georgia Cosmopolitan Fellowship of Churches founded by the late Bishop Derrick W. Hutchins.

Her experience in the areas of speaking, teaching, and preaching include conferences, workshops, and seminars with topics such as Reveal to Heal, The 21st Century Wife, Surviving the Seasons of Sufferings, Life After Loss, and Cultivating Real Relationships.

On any given day, you can be assured that this Pastor is checking on the welfare of her beloved One Accord. The members, whom she treats like family, have direct access to their pastor. She is known for having hosted members without family or who are far from their families at holiday dinners and family gatherings, because her heart is filled with love for the people of God. To know Pastor Body, is to know that she is as kind as she is beautiful. The founder of the One Accord Child Development Center, Sarah’s Closet food pantry and clothes closet, a sponsor for the Girl Talk Prom Wear Giveaway and she has helped to send young people to college with trunks filled with supplies, bedding, food, and money.

Her talents do not stop at preaching and teaching the Word of God, Darlene Body, can sing and she is featured on her daughter, Eumika’s album “The Greatest Gift.” Having sang on various stages and pulpits across the country, she is a stickler for “good music,” which is evident by the phenomenal music department at One Accord. Pastor Darlene was also a choir director at her father’s church, Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Minneapolis, MN as well as in the beginning days of One Accord.

For a brief time, Pastor Body was a single mom, a part of her testimony that she readily shares. It is the truth of those years of struggle, which makes her extremely sensitive to the plight of single parents. Ask anyone who has known Pastor Body for any length of time, and they will tell you; “she was with me at the hospital when my baby was born, or I was at my mom’s funeral and looked up and there was my pastor.” She has stood at the altar in the place of “Mother of the Bride” and the list could go on.

The members of One Accord will tell you that they love Pastor Body because while she is definitely “a lady” they respect the authority that she carries in the Lord and because of her practical teaching of the Word of God. They would also say that while she is an extremely progressive and forwarding thinking pastor, she also embraces many of the traditions of “the old church.” She is the perfect pastor for this very well-mixed congregation One Accord embraces the seniors, as well as the college and young adult ministry and everyone in between, the church continues to thrive under this pastor who was so obviously created to move them forward in this season.

When she is not preaching an awe-inspiring message or teaching a fact-filled Bible Study, she is praying and asking God for even more innovative ways to impact the church and the community. It is safe to say that Pastor Body loves people, but none move her heart like her five living children, 32-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Although she has suffered great loss in life with the deaths of four children, her husband, Spiritual leader and most recently, her own father, Pastor Darlene Body is the living embodiment of 1 Corinthians 3:9a “For we are labourers together with God…”

Pastor Body is not just a survivor, but a thriver and maintains that our life experiences should cause us to grow and be able to help others learn from those experiences. As she continues to move through the vicissitudes of life, she embraces this mantra given by Bishop Hutchins, “I’m looking up and moving forward.”

Bishop Kervy Brown

Bishop Kervy Brown has been singing since the age of 5 years old. He was raised in New York City with both parents in which his mother “Mary Brown” was his first musical mentor. Bishop Brown gives credit and recognition to his mother for his musical talents. His mother was the lead singer of a gospel group called, “The Faith Gospel Singers”.

Bishop Kervy Brown has performed on the stage with many of the greats who have gone on to be with the Lord, such as the late James Cleveland, Rev. Charles Nicks, Rev. Timothy Wright, Isaac Douglas, and the late James Moore. Bishop Brown also sang with Bishop Eric McDaniel/Bronx Mass Choir, J. J Hairston, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Clark Sisters, Pace Sisters, Pastor Shirley Ceasar, and Dorothy Norwood in which he gives all glory and honor to God for the opportunities he has experienced within his music ministry journey. Bishop Brown has also sung with Bishop Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir as a lead singer. Although Bishop Brown has sang on many songs from Bishop Hezekiah Walker’s first album, such as songs titled “The Lord Will Make a Way Somehow, Anyway You Bless Me, Make It to That City, and I’ll Make It,” the song titled “Lord Do It” opened many doors for him within the gospel music industry. It has been decades since the song “Lord Do It” was recorded; however, people from all generations still tell him how much the song “Lord Do It” ministered to them in a special way!

Bishop Kervy Brown has been singing and recording at the Gospel Music Workshop since he was the age of 20 years old. Bishop Albert Jamison was the one who originally introduced him to the Gospel Music Workshop. From years of singing at the Gospel Music Workshop, Bishop Kervy Brown’s music ministry has gained recognition in the gospel industry. Bishop Brown recorded his 1st LIVE solo album back in 2009 with Bishop Herman Murray in Dallas, Texas at Full Gospel Holy Temple in which he served there for years as the house psalmist.

Over the last 3 years, Bishop Brown released three songs titled, “He’s Coming Back Again, Black Lives Matter, and “Our God Reigns!” He’s currently working on his next musical project which is projected to be released within the fall of this year. Bishop Brown’s musical mentors are Doreen Figueroa, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Debra Sutton, Donnie McClurkin the late Mother Rubinstein McClure, the late Daryl Coley and the late Rev. James Moore. They all played a major influence in shaping the voice and sound of Bishop Kervy Brown.

Drs. Gerald & Carol Ervin

For 27 years, Drs. Gerald & Carol Ervin have been affectionately referred to as one of the hardest working couples in contemporary gospel; the award-winning recording artist Sounds of Imani. The couple met in 1996 as friends and were married in 1999. Drs. Gerald & Carol both have a heart for people and created their own 501c3 nonprofit organization called Acclaim Community Outreach Services in the year 2000. However, before they even thought about acquiring a nonprofit organization, the couple would go out into the local parks hosting outreach events. These events included musical entertainment from local artists with food, refreshments, and resource information acquired from various community organizations.

Gerald & Carol hosted “Praise in the Park” outdoor outreach events at Alfred Ford Brush Park, Belle Isle Park, Stoepel Park #1 and #2, Corrigan Playfield, Erma Henderson Park, & Heilmann Recreation Center to name a few. The outreach events included health and wellness tests for the community (i.e., blood pressure, diabetes, etc.) in conjunction with the local health department and local hospitals. In addition, Gerald and Carol became involved in prison outreach through training from Chuck Colson’s Operation Starting Line program of the Prison Fellowship organization. They visited local prisons in Michigan and various states to minister in music, and the word of God encouraging and uplifting men and women who were incarcerated. Their main location has been the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia, MI where they have been requested numerous times by the prisoners and Prison Outreach Program Coordinator.

The dynamic duo’s non-profit organization is a partner agency with Gleaners Community Food Bank to acquire food items for emergency food box distribution to residents throughout Metro Detroit. To expand their food distribution outreach, they contact local middle and high schools to identify low-income families who would benefit from food distribution, especially during the holidays. These boxes are dropped off at the schools to be distributed to the families.

Over the years, Drs. Gerald and Carol have been mentors to those who needed assistance and direction in their lives. Being led by the Holy Spirit, they opened their home to assist men and women who didn’t have anywhere to go while they were atempting to obtain their GED or were searching for permanent housing. Gerald & Carol also refer individuals to local shelters for special programs including substance abuse treatment, mental health awareness and housing assistance. At the end of each year, Drs. Gerald & Carol partner with Gifts for All God’s Children to provide Christmas gifts to 100+ children and the families are appreciative. Gerald & Carol received their honorary Doctor of Divinity in January 2020 from St. Thomas Christian University in Jacksonville, FL due to their awesome community outreach & ministerial work. Although this is a small mention of humanitarian activities that the couple has conducted, Drs. Gerald & Carol Ervin continue their journey in blessing and caring for the needs of others because only what you do for Christ will last.
