Awe-Inspiring Songstress, the “IT” Factor, the Undiscovered Jewel. These superlatives are just a few noticeable characteristics that best describe this soulful, energetic, naturally talented, and incredibly gifted artist. Born in Minnesota, Eumika Body Griffin was reared in the bay area of California with her final destination being Atlanta, GA. Eumika’s vocal ability was originally discovered by her parents, the late Dr. T. A Body, Sr. & Pastor Darlene A. Body. Singing at her parents’ church, directing the church choir, and performing in other places and for other events became commonplace in Eumika’s early years. With no questions asked to prove her ability, she was apparently a natural born gift sent from God above. Eumika believes in “creating an atmosphere in life to let others know that you are concerned with more than just yourself, that you are there for others as well”. As she continued her life journey, Eumika became engaged and married professional keyboardist, composer, and producer Kevin ”Griff” Griffin, who continued to push, support, and encourage her and her ministry, After signing with a gospel recording group in Atlanta, GA, she was introduced to a super-talented and skilled choir/musical director, the late Dirk Chaney. This partnership improved her vocal abilities, expanded her musical maturation, and subsequently increased her ministry engagements, recording sessions, and live performances. Now, with a new look, a new sound, new music, and even greater projects and endeavors, Eumika released a Brand New Single entitled “BACK TO THE BASICS OF LOVE”. Written, produced, and arranged by her husband Kevin ”Griff” Griffin, this single presents a very inspiring global message through two key points. It first encourages us to go back to the basics of our first love, be it in whatever relationship in which you’re involved. Then it offers us a chance to start over and recreate the original intent of that first love. This song strongly offers a huge, energetic big band/pop/ Christian sound. As Eumika’s flawless vocal delivery renders a simplistic message through the lyrics, the music accompanies her through its big tom fills, acoustic guitars, and
EUMIKA BODY GRIFFIN (Cont’d) bold orchestra arrangements. COUNSEL OF CLERGY Your Perspective Matters? Pastor Robert W. Norwood
Houston, Texas I have been pastoring for about 18 years now, and in those 18 years, I have been asked several questions about the Bible and my personal ministry. But, the one question that has come up more recently than before is “Why does perspective matter?” This question has surfaced more today than before because I believe in times like these, people need to know how one’s perspective means the difference between life and death. So, the question I must contend with is helping people understand the power of their perspective. I am sure those reading this article know what perspective means, but if you don’t, here is the definition I found on Google: an attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view. Since perspective is defined as a ‘particular attitude toward or way of regarding something.’ , the question then becomes: what is your attitude towards life and situations you find yourself in? Someone once said, “Your attitude determines your altitude!” What is your perspective in your current situation? Do you feel defeated, hopeless, scared, or do you see what I see? What do I see you might ask? Because of my perspective I see an opportunity for an ‘OMG’. What is an ‘OMG’ moment? Glad you asked! An ‘OMG’ moment simply means an Opportunity for the Manifestation of God. God wants us to stop viewing life from a natural perspective but view it from His supernatural perspective. Look at Moses at the Red Sea with the children of Israel. Their initial perspective was the Red Sea was uncrossable. From God’s perspective, the Red Sea was a superhighway for deliverance. Today, we are facing seemingly impossible situations. Some of us are losing and living in fear. God is reminding us today that “Your perspective matters.”
SPOTLIGHT: RICCARDO MONTGOMERY Riccardo Montgomery aka Rickey Righteous is a Mississippi native who began his career in Gospel radio in 2007 at WLVV in Mobile, Alabama. This fun-loving, high energy Gospel host started a show titled “Ric and Rob”, which brought fun to Christian radio while taking real-life questions to pastors, community Leaders, and gospel artists. In 2017, Riccardo Montgomery joined KOPN in Columbia, MO, This community radio station was the first of its kind in the country to serve an audience of fewer than 100,000 people, and today serves a population of over 250,000 in a 50-mile radius. Ricardo began working with Timm Hudspeth on “Straight Talk” and later became co-host alongside Timm. Riccardo changed the format of “Straight Talk” from a show dealing with political views affecting the community to a Gospel show discussing real-life issues facing the Christian community. Looking back on the success of Ric and Rob, and support from his wife, Ricardo knew real-life discussion about Gospel would connect with the Christian community. “Straight Talk” gained more popularity after covering topics that tackled relationships, questioned favor with God, and discussed the difficulties of being a pastor. Shortly after, KOPN asked Ricardo about another opportunity of hosting the longest-running Gospel show in the city. Late in 2017, he joined “Serenade of Love” with Pastor Larry McBride and Elder Joseph Wilson. The moment he joined the show, he knew it was part of God's plan, not only for him, but for his wife's brand “Elegant Warrior” and his family. Since joining KOPN, “Rickey Righteous”, as he has become affectionately known, has brought his witty Christian comedy and joyous/high energy to both “Straight Talk” and “Serenade of Love”. In addition, he has made huge strides in social media by establishing podcasts that are available on Spotify, Godify, Google Play Store, Castbox, and Pandora. As the only live Gospel radio broadcast in Missouri, both “Serenade of Love” and “Straight Talk” have listeners in both St. Louis and Kanas City, the two major cities in Missouri. This year, Riccardo is honored to be nominated as Radio Announcer of the Year by the Gospel Music Choice Awards. Riccardo has worked hard with God's guidelines to interview major gospel artists like Jason Champion, Jason Nelson, and Isabel Davis to name a few. He furthermore has been a springboard for independent gospel artists all over the United States. He wishes to especially thank KOPN General Manager Tim Pilcher for all he does for the station, and his wife Erica Montgomery for the love, support, and freedom to go forth in ministry. He’s also thankful for time with his boys, daughter and granddaughter; his family; various churches for emceeing different events; and the great people of Missouri. Please support and follow Riccardo on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

SPOTLIGHT: JERMAINE PETTWAY "YAHWEH TRAX" Jermaine Pettway "Yahweh Trax" is a East St. Louis, IL native, but was reared in the small town of Bay Minette, AL for most of his life. Growing up in the church, Jermaine was always mesmerized about music as he watched choirs march in before singing and musicians play the latest and greatest music in the gospel arena. Jermaine was first introduced to music by his father Bishop Albert L. Pettway Jr, of East St. Louis, IL. Bishop Pettway was a professional musician/songwriter for years and played in multiple bands. He was also the audio engineer for Darcy Advertising Agency in St. Louis, MO where he used to bring Jermaine to the studio on the weekends and show him the ins and outs of recording. At the age of 12, Jermaine’s father began teaching him the guitar as Jermaine demonstrated the potential of being a fluent musician. A little later, Jermaine began to play the piano, as Bishop taught him day and night the basics and advanced techniques of those instruments. Afterwards, Bishop Pettway opened up a Recording Studio in Bay Minette, AL and named it Gospel Lab Productions. It was at this studio where Jermaine truly learned the ins and outs of recording and the techniques of instrument placement and songwriting. Jermaine began bringing his friends into the studio during downtime to record them and make beats for them. After Jermaine graduated high school, he moved to Winter Park, FL and attended Full Sail University where he received his Associates of Science Degree in Recording Arts in 2007. It was in Florida, where he networked with many aspiring musicians and producers, that Jermaine found his sound and developed his skill of producing on a professional level. Jermaine has been writing and producing music for over 20 years now, including several albums and singles. One thing about his sound is that Jermaine Pettway can produce any style of music, from Old Skool to New Skool, all the way to Futuristic Skool. There is no limit on his creativity and his skill set, and his sound is anointed by God. After moving back to Alabama, Jermaine found his soul mate, and married Liza M. Davis. Not long after, they gave birth to 4 beautiful children - Brelyn, Jermaine Jr, Bailee, and Isabella - who are all inspired by music as well. Liza, his number one supporter and fan, runs the administrative side of Yahweh Trax Productions. Jermaine Pettway later coined the nickname “Yahweh Trax“, and eventually Yahweh Trax Productions, for the company’s new name, formerly named Shofar Records. Yahweh Trax Productions is located in Mobile, AL, and from the beginning of its relaunch, has produced multiple award receiving projects. Moreover, the company is on a steady pace to receive more accolades for upcoming projects. Yahweh Trax Productions has partnered up with major recording studio Dauphin Street Sounds, which is also located in Mobile, AL. This partnership began in 2019 and has caused the two entities to excel beyond both of their expectations within the gospel music industry. Jermaine “Yahweh Trax” is a man of faith who believes that every good and perfect gift comes from God and God only. He also believes that using his gift for a positive influence to others is the reason why he has been called by many the " Chameleon Producer" . This nickname means he can produce multiple styles of music so perfect and professionally. If you are an aspiring artist looking to take your music career to the next level; contact Yahweh Trax Productions. There, you will “Experience The Sounds Of Angels”.

NOT JUST A GIG It’s Not a PERFORMANCE, But a MINISTRY APPEARANCE When I started my company, Progressive Ministry Management (PMM), in March 2017, I knew that eventually my artists and I would have to engage in that hard conversation of booking fees and charging persons for ministry appearances. Note I did not say performances but rather ministry appearances. I’ll address that in a second. The British Virgin Islands is a small population of about 30,000 people and within that population, the gospel community is even smaller. God has blessed our little nation with talented individuals who are passionate in spreading the word of God through song, dance, music production, poetry, and more. As my personal ministry, God birthed in me, PMM, whose aim is to transform lives into ministry by helping artists develop their ministry and fulfil the purpose God has placed on their gift. As the company took off and our artist register started to build, I started to feel some spiritual discomfort whenever someone wanted to book an artist for an event. The discomfort was solely because I disliked hearing the word “performance”. Using that word felt as if it was just a gig when it was in fact the complete opposite. I felt and observed that when one of my artists were in front of an audience, their aim was to minister and reach a lost soul; not to entertain. You were not there to be a spectator but you were there to participate in worship and praise. In those moments, healing happened, deliverance happened, victory was reassured, and a fresh anointing overflowed. This is why it was referred to as a ministry appearance: it was a worship experience for God to appear. Of course, as I’ve said before, the conversation of pricing and booking these appearances were always difficult. Because our community was so small, everyone knew everyone and my artists found it challenging to charge persons to minister at an event. The mentality of the community didn’t make this any easier. We would often here the comment, “oh, it’s for the Kingdom,” or “it’s just a little fundraiser,” in addition to persons making artists feel like they should do it just because they were friends or associates. While, there are some events where a ‘love offering’ was appreciated or there was no charge indeed, what persons failed to understand is that ministry needs funding. A payment for a gig is usually a “thank you for your time” whereas payment for a ministry appearance is you sowing a seed into the ministry so that the artist can fulfil God’s purpose. It is a blessing that will return unto you with good measure because you have done your part and joined the artist’s ministry to spread the Gospel. NOT JUST A GIG One day after a service at a church for which I was the Minister of Music, the Pastor, Head Deacon and some fellow parishioners were having a lively debate about their favorite singers and why they loved them so much. They started talking about singers like Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Daryl Coley, Yolanda Adams and some of our Gospel and secular favorites of whom can be among our favorites of all time. The conversation took on a different tangent when we started discussing the skills each of our favorites had. The pastor said something that stuck with me, "Luther Vandross can put you in the mood of any situation his voice paints but man? Daryl Coley just ministers to me down in my heart! I had to ask the pastor what he meant by that because the statement left me confused. "Pastor, what do you mean?" I asked. I was confused because while Daryl Coley is one of my favorite singers of all time, "Dance with My Father" always makes me shed a tear or two when singing along. His answer rendered me speechless. "There's a difference between a singer and a minister. Don't get me wrong, Fran. Luther can tear the house down on any given day but Luther is not who I go to when I need God's healing touch through music. I go to Daryl Coley, Yolanda Adams and the like for that. It's as if God's healing angels are singing through them for the purpose of serving God by ministering me through song" .
NOT JUST A GIG (Cont’d)
My favorite saying to praise teams and choirs with whom I minister is, "The Ministry will NOT be compromised". The reason why I believe this to be true is because there is a difference between a gig and ministry! When I'm at a gig, I determine my set list, I've negotiated a price with the venue and/or promoter, I get glammed up, beat my face, make sure that I'm clean when I'm seen! I want to earn my asking price and the glory and applause when my notes are on point! But oh, the nervousness before I take the stage! If my notes falter, it's on me, the band out of sync, and the pressure, all on me... But when I'm not on the performance clock, when I minister, there's a different goal. I'm not there to bring any attention to myself. Not I but, Christ shall be lifted and praised! It's a beautiful thing when the ministry is not compromised. The focus is on God and his gift of Jesus. It is during the preparation for ministry that I'm reminded that my gifts are not my own but given to me on loan from God. When it's ministry there's a comfort in knowing that I'm tithing the gifts God has bestowed upon me for Him to use to bless others. I'm less nervous and focused on God's unfailing love and the privilege to be able to share His love thru song with others When we minister in song, we serve God as his son served us. It's ministry and service. It's not just a gig! Francine Hines Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
NO LONGER A GIG I had no clue!!!!! As I look back over the 27 years of ministry, that is my response. Starting out as the student director for my high school choir, I enjoyed singing and “performing” with my classmates. After I graduated, I wanted to continue that feeling. So I reached out to some of the old singers from the school choir and they reached out to some of their friends and before you know it, David Walker and The High Praise Community Choir was formed. We were a bunch of young people, who just wanted to sing. There were times that we had engagements on Friday, Saturday AND Sunday. Back then, we even rehearsed twice a week and made no qualms about it. Those were definitely the “good ole days”. However, with all of the good times and comradery, we were still lacking something….”Ministry” Ministry was the farthest thing from our minds at that time. We just wanted to sing. I really can’t place my finger on when exactly things started to shift, but I do recall one instance (and this could have been the shift), where a friend of mine came out to hear the choir sing and God really showed up. After the service was over, she approached me and told me how she enjoyed the service and that she had come to church for the last time because afterwards, she was going home to commit suicide. From that point on, it was no longer a “gig” for me (which I’ve always hated that word as it relates to church). I think one has to question themselves and ask, “Why am I doing this?” What are your motives and intentions? I’ve seen so many new artists start groups, that don’t last a year. And I think the reason is primarily, because the intentions were not pure. Sometimes people see the end result, but don’t realize the work that goes on behind the scenes to get the end result. But even more than that, we have to now be concerned about the souls that are attached to our ministry. There are people around the world that’s waiting on what God has placed on the inside of you. It could be that one time that you cavalierly approach an engagement, that you miss the opportunity to truly minister to the needs of an individual in the audience. Now the blood of that person is on your hands. There was a time when I looked for the audience’s response to gauge if they received us or not. If they didn’t react a certain way, then I felt defeated. I felt like we didn’t do well. But I quickly found out that it would be those one or two people that would pull me to the side and express how much they were blessed and encourage me to keep going. The world is hurting and we as ministers of music have a responsibility to bring hope, encouragement and salvation to those that are in need of it. Gone are the days that we operate in our flesh. But we now have to be super sensitive to the leading of the spirit, so that what we do is no longer a “gig”, but it becomes Ministry!! David Walker Atlanta, Georgia
HEALTHY WELL & WISE Protect Your Mental Health by Setting Personal and Professional Boundaries Do you need to protect your mental health? Do lots of people invade your personal space and leave you wondering how best to tackle the issue? This article will help you understand how best to protect your mental health by setting personal and professional boundaries. Your mental health is an active contributor to your existence, and its protection is one thing that you should always wish to accomplish, primarily because of the stress that could arise otherwise. Boundaries are an essential part of effective communication both in personal and professional capacities. Limits are used in many cases to ensure balance remains the order of the day while interacting and communicating with others. If you can hold on to these boundaries while dealing with others, the better it is for all the parties involved. Why is Setting Boundaries Important? Whether you have a personal or professional relationship, setting the necessary boundaries is one of the things that you should consider to avoid unpleasant and unwanted occurrences. Usually, it is vital to draw a line when dealing with other people to prevent them from making you uncomfortable, whether they're aware of it or not. Personal boundaries as guidelines, rules or limits that a person creates to identify reasonable, safe and permissible ways for other people to behave towards them and how they will respond when someone passes those boundaries. Personal boundaries help you to define and control the perspective that other people view you from, taking into account your physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual interaction with them. You can set personal boundaries with people that you have close interaction or relationships with to prevent them from invading your space or to prevent them from crossing the limits of close friends if you also have to work with them. You can set boundaries within your home, between your family, close friends, neighbors, and other close relations that you have to interact with frequently. Tips for Setting Personal Boundaries Your home should be a place you consider a place of peace. It houses some of the closest relationships that anybody may have. But even inside the home, there are limits that everyone can go-to when it comes to interaction or intimate relationships with someone else. Asserting your boundaries in a calm, friendly way within your home will go a long way in helping you to protect your mental health. Once this is done reasonably, everyone will know to recognize those boundaries and respect them. Family can be a very complicated affair, one that sometimes also requires that we set ground rules that even our closest confidants cannot ignore. Different people make up a family unit, and the difference between each person makes it so that everyone within a family carries an individual personality that separates them from others. Each person in the family deserves their space. When you're a part of the family, you must respect the boundaries that they set for the benefit of the mental health of all parties involved. Usually, people make friends with primarily other people within their age range. This is because they grow up within the frameworks of the society, which automatically matches them with children who are in the same age bracket. To maintain a healthy relationship with your friends, it is vital to put the necessary boundaries in place to prevent them from invading your privacy. While friendships are ideal, when they set off negative mental energies within you, it's best to address it quickly. Tell them you understand what they want from you, however, your needs are different. With the necessary boundaries, you’ll be able to avoid unnecessary altercations. When it comes to close relationships, whether, of the sexual nature or platonic kind between adults, it is equally necessary to set healthy boundaries that help protect the mental health of all parties involved. This encourages fair dealings and responsible interaction when both parties understand fully well the limits of their actions toward the other person. Whether it is a casual or sexual relationship, you need to let the other party understand where you stand early on in the relation.
PROTECT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH (Cont’d) Professional Boundaries Professional boundaries, on the other hand, refer to organizational, legal, medical, ethical, and other limits that guide the interaction with and within businesses, employees, and employers to prevent mental and physical inconveniencies between one another. Often, there can be occurrences of people crossing professional and ethical lines while dealing with other people in a professional capacity, whether it is between co-workers, employer, and employee, or client-doctor, counsel-client relationships, among others. Professional boundaries help to curb the occurrence of problematic interactions between adults who operate across various industries. It is vital to set the necessary professional boundaries in some situations. Putting the required frameworks in place will help to guide your interaction with people and their reactions to your personality. With these boundaries, you can quickly establish your presence to an expectant audience. Here are some tips on setting professional boundaries in the following endeavors: While forging a career, it is essential to Set Straight Expectations with your colleagues and clients about what to expect from you and what not to expect within the guidelines of your profession. You should equally try to be clear about your role in the organization or on a project to ensure that everybody else understands as much as you do about the limits of your relationship to respect and protect the mental boundaries of the other party. You should always be honest with people and let them know how they make you feel. Be realistic about how their actions affect you positively or negatively. Let them understand that their behavior is a negative influence on you and try as much as possible to cut down all possible interactions with them unless there is room for fruitful mediation for the sake of your mental health. As an entrepreneur, if you do not set the necessary boundaries, you will get all caught up in the designs of other people for a very long time. Given your drive as an entrepreneur to change the world in one way or the other, it is very likely that you’re exposed to lots of close relationships throughout your entrepreneurial journey. One of the ways to harness these little advantages is to separate your personal and entrepreneurial life. By drawing a definitive line between your private and entrepreneurial experience, everyone takes a cue into how you want them to behave when they get the privilege of a close relationship. You should also try as much as possible to set specific goals and smash them. By setting specific goals and crushing them, your self-confidence increases by a great deal, and you will be able to control your environment much better, including setting the proper boundaries to protect your mental health. Client relation is one of the most delicate parts of b2b ties in the world today. Learning how to understand the need of clients and interpret them successfully as fast as possible is an industry on its own. If you can genuinely understand how to set the necessary boundaries that allow for a smooth relationship between you and your clients, then the sky is just the beginning. With the appropriate frameworks put in place, you and your clients can comfortably interact without any party experiencing a violation of their psychological, emotional, or spiritual peace. Why is your Mental Health so Important? You must be wondering what's so essential about your mental health that you're setting boundaries to protect them in various aspects of your life. Your mental health includes all your psychological, emotional, and social behavior. It is an aggregation of the various activities of the body, which influences how we feel, think, act, react, relate with other people, and make decisions, among others. Your mental state is deeply connected to how you truly feel from the inside and the manifestations of those feelings in real life. There is a powerful connection between mental health and the success of huge companies. Over the years, events have shown that, to a considerable extent, the mental condition of employees has a powerful impact on their performances at work. Those who are always mentally stressed cannot perform optimally, while employees who are mentally rested enough are usually at their best. You should consider your mental health as a fragile egg that deserves to be cared for to prevent it from cracking open. By setting boundaries that help to protect your mental health, you can truly protect your health and happiness.

SPOTLIGHT: DR. BRADFORD HOWARD JR. The story of Dr. Bradford Howard, Jr. began with him just wanting to help others. It is truly amazing, how in a short time, that he has gained great exposure and enhanced his personal brand. All he ever desired was to help and be a blessing to others. While doing this feat, many were appreciative of the things that he did and, in turn, they told others. The next thing that he found out, was that many were mentored and were on journeys to success. Their stories that they shared with others reflected on those seeing him as a motivational leader. Soon afterwards, others seeked him for help with their music careers and so he assisted them. Now he is being acclaimed as a music manager, producer, and promoter. Later, his focus turned to radio and television to support those in those fields.
