3 why Javelin 22.22? From our subsidiary, Braveheart Shipping, we have built up many years of experience and expertise in crew tendering, hydrographic and seismological research and all kinds of survey operations, both at home and abroad. The increasing demand from the market for all these activities led us to search for a new ship. We were, however, unable to find a ship within the international market that met our requirements, but by listening to our customers and using our experience and that of our partners, we created a new design: Javelin 22.22. The first Javelin 22.22 was built by Javelin International, having been commissioned by Braveheart Shipping. Both are subsidiaries of J. Hakvoort International. Many drawings and tests preceded the build. Javelin International could not have done this without its partners and we are therefore very grateful to them. In this reference book you will read about the distinguishing qualities, technical features and purposes of Javelin 22.22. Kind regards,

Boskalis/Heinrich Hirdes – tennet Export Cable Project Guardian conducts survey/supply activities in an ammunition field ROV. Using the Port of Eemshaven as its base, Guardian will be operating in the working area in Borkum, the objective being to clear the area of dumped ammunition. The ship will also be used for crew transfer and provisioning. This project is being carried out in preparation for the construction of a wind farm project above the islands. “The reason our project chose Guardian is that the ship features a unique combination of speed, comfort and versatile usability. Think of jobs that are traditionally being performed by much heavier anchor handling ships”, says Frank Seubring, project manager Boskalis Heinrich/ Hirdes.

KD WorKBoatS KD Workboats is a Dutch shipyard based in Urk on the IJsselmeer. It builds and repairs vessels up to 30 metres long and specialises in crew tenders and hydrographic and seismic research vessels. The company mainly focuses on new building, hull manufacture, maintenance and inspections and ship conversions. In addition, KD Workboats has a number of its own products, the ProWorker being the most well-known. KD WorKBoatS rEGarDinG tHE CooPEration KD Workboats has been involved with the activities of J. Hakvoort Holding from the very beginning. We have been able to witness the growth from the first vessel right up to the fleet now operating under Braveheart Shipping. Both on-site and at the shipyard in Urk, we have carried out various tasks; from small repairs to extensive rebuilding operations. Two years ago, the idea for the Javelin 22.22 was born. KD Workboats received the assignment for this ship and, in close cooperation with Javelin International, it built the first Javelin 22.22.

VriPaCK rEGarDinG tHE CooPEration The cooperation between Vripack and Hakvoort is unique because of the high degree of innovation which was essential to the Javelin in order to perform her duties at sea. This innovative mentality and the features of the ship connected very well to the qualities of the Vripack Team. The Javelin is a masterpiece among commercial ships, a typical survey ship with the characteristics of a specialized commercial research vessel. MARIN, the Maritime Research Institute based in the Netherlands, guaranteed its performance by providing services such as simulation, model testing and full-scale measurements. The end result is a vessel which was designed with minimal fuel consumption, low CO2 emission and a high comfort level for the crew. The good cooperation between Vripack and Hakvoort has led to an innovative, highly commercial ship for which no sea is too rough. www.vripack.com
22 HYDroGraPHX Van Reenen HydrographX is a young one-man business that forms the connection between vessel and measuring vessel. From the drawing table, the hydrographic measuring functions and installations need to be taken into account to ensure their optimal performance. Years of experience with dredging companies, client contact and cooperation with survey equipment suppliers have led to the formation of solutions leading to an effective measuring system. With this knowledge, Van Reenen HydrographX is able to supervise and advise housing or rebuilding projects involving measuring vessels, where design, build and equipment choice are optimally tuned Installation, purchase, start-up and calibration of survey equipment can also be handled so that the measuring vessel can go “on line” immediately after delivery. www.hydrographx.nl
HYDroGraPHX rEGarDinG tHE CooPEration The Javelin 22.22 project is an excellent example of the cooperation between designer, shipyard and hydrographic specialists. Even during the design phase, the client J. Hakvoort Holding, started cooperating with Van Reenen HydrograpX on the creation of a multi-purpose floating workshop capable of operating as an effective measuring vessel in offshore conditions. The experiences with previous combined housing and rebuilding projects involving seagoing measuring vessels, as well as substantial research by Marin, among others, have led to this design where the limit has been shifted from near to offshore.
23 SEaKEEPEr Kemper en van Twist Diesel BV (KVT) is a multifranchise company based in Dordrecht and was founded in 1836. In 1936, it became the world’s first Perkins distributor. Perkins Diesel engines have always been the main product of the company, but over the years various other products have been added to the programme. One of the latest is the “Seakeeper Gyro Stabilizer“ which is sold by the Marine dept.. Besides the Marine dept. there is also an Industrial dept., Energy dept., Parts dept. ,Service dept. and KVT has its own workshop. Support is given to all products by highly trained engineers in a special Product Support dept. The Marine dept. gained the Seakeeper distributorship in 2009 and has sold several gyro stabilizers. www.kvt.nl/seakeeper
SEaKEEPEr rEGarDinG tHE CooPEration KVT has now also penetrated the commercial market. KVT and Braveheart Shipping have been doing business together for a number of years. The existing fleet is equipped with Kohler gensets which KVT imports and supports. When Jelle Hakvoort started the development of “Javelin” he wanted to create a very special vessel with outstanding seagoing characteristics and the Seakeeper gyro system was brought in. KVT highly respects the entrepreneurship of Jelle Hakvoort and saw it as a good opportunity to enter the commercial market with the Seakeeper product. Jelle was quite clear about what he had in mind and the Seakeeper M21000, now installed on the “Javelin”, was exactly what he was looking for. We trust he will make a success of this project and look forward to cooperating in future new projects.
