When you see yourself in the mirror, you reflect what you are today and who you will be tomorrow.

Acceptance is a powerful fight with your mind to identify what is in front of you without attempting or having a chance to change it. We face this every day or maybe even every minute. There may have been multiple instances in our lives where we wanted to change what is presented to us to something better because we do not want to believe in our current reality and make the necessary adjustments needed. Sometimes we prefer to live in a world of reverie and not accept the realities of our situation. Who is at fault? Is it the individual who is not keeping pace or the surroundings that have been successful in painting a picture of fantasy? Whether we like it or not, change is an inevitable part of our lives.

We sometimes fail to accept the smallest variations and avoid reality. For example, I still keep some old clothes in my closet hoping to fit into them in the future. But the truth is that I need new clothes. If you are honest with yourself and embrace what is in front of you, acceptance and adjustments can feel like easy processes. I do agree that it is easier said than done. However, we must all start somewhere to live a more contented and happy life.

Below are a few activities that can help you on your journey towards acceptance and adjustment:

Discipline yourself

Learn how to do ordinary things extraordinarily. Start small and then move toward bigger goals. Ensure that you don’t stop after you finish the first one, rather choose something similar and keep the momentum going.

Acknowledge your thoughts and feelings

We all inherently possess certain traits and develop new ones as we grow. Acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses, thoughts and emotions help you develop and move forward. If you try to sweep your truth under the carpet it will haunt you every day. Face it, accept it and you will bear the fruits of your efforts in the long run.

Fight your fear

Fear is a parasite that grows stronger if you nurture it within yourself. It is often the biggest barrier that prevents us from unleashing our potential and reaching our goals. This is why we need to focus on overcoming fear by looking for simple, achievable solutions and working toward them.

Acceptance alters many things and brings positive changes to your life. You may or may not like it because we picture our lives in a certain way, and any deviation from our ideal is often unacceptable. I’m not saying you need to be a helpless bystander in your own life. But by accepting the realities of your circumstances, you will have a sense of peace and be empowered to make better decisions about your life.
