Celebrating Jerome Floyd

Page 1

To my angel in the sky

Dear grandad it's so sad to see you go but I know you are in a better place now. I will forever miss you. From this day I will do everything in your image. I will do everything in my power to make you proud because I know you are watching from above. It hurts me to know you are not here with us anymore. I always loved laughing with you, seeing you smile could always light up a room. I will never forget coming to see you on my homecoming night you had the biggest smile seeing me in my dress which made my whole night. It's so many more things I wish you could be here to see me accomplish but I know you will forever be looking down on me and in my heart. Losing you is the hardest thing. You fought a hard battle and you are finally at rest in a better place. I will forever thank you for everything you have done for me and raising the greatest and strongest man that I am proud to call my dad. I think about you every day and miss you dearly. It hurts to know I can't just have five more minutes with you to see your smile. I will forever cherish those memories with you.

To my forever guardian angel, Love Aniyah

Order of Worship

Mr. Jerome Floyd, a faithful servant, devoted family man, and respected member of the community, entered eternal rest on February 8, 2026. He was born on April 16, 1955, in Skippers, Virginia, to the late Jasper M. Floyd, Sr. and Elsie J. Floyd.

Jerome’s faith journey began early in life. He was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he developed a foundation of faith that would guide him throughout his life. He later became a dedicated and faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, where he served wholeheartedly and left a lasting impact.

Jerome received his education in the public schools of Newport News, Virginia, attending Huntington Middle School and Warwick High School. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He worked for many years at the Newport News Shipyard and within the home improvement industry.

Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, he owned and operated J. Floyd and Son Drywall, taking great pride in his craft and the quality of his work.

At Gethsemane Baptist Church, Jerome was instrumental in ministry. He lifted his voice in praise as a member of the Male Chorus and later shared his gifts through the Drama Ministry, where he faithfully built sets for church productions and plays. In recognition of his dedication and servant’s heart, he was consecrated as a Steward on October 6, 2024 — a role he carried with humility and honor.

Jerome was known as a man of few words, yet his life spoke volumes. He was a great man — devoted to his family, committed to his church, and respected by all who knew him. He had a big heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. A hardworking man of integrity, he lived as an example that diligence and faithfulness truly pay off.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper M. Floyd, Sr., and Elsie J. Floyd; his brothers, Keith Floyd and Jasper Floyd; his daughter, Mariam Thomas; and his niece, Danielle Gunter.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories and carry on his legacy: his children, Angelo Floyd-Johnson, Sr., Jerome Cooper, Delvin Johnson, Charmain Johnson, and Wanza Cooper; grandchildren, Angelo Floyd-Johnson, Jr., A’Jehaun Floyd-Johnson, Aniyah Floyd Johnson, Armonie Floyd-Johnson, Samuel Cooper, Robert Cooper, Quan Cooper, Alexis Harris, Janiyah Cooper, Anatalya Thomas, and Keira Thomas; three sisters, Fannie Christian (Howard), Jeanette Davis, and Sandra Floyd; two brothers, Danny Floyd (Maxine) and Donald Floyd (Jeanette); a special niece, Elisiana Floyd; dear friends, Brenda Thomas, Deacon David Sheppard, Anita Michaels, and Norman; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the end of the day.

If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things too I will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
