PRACTICE OVERVIEW OBJECTIVES
GBK Architects is an Architectural Practice based in Gaborone, Botswana. The firm was founded by Gorata Kgafela in 2007
We offer consultancy and turnkey services in Architecture, Interior Design, Urban Design, Project Management, Art, and Furniture design
The firm is accredited with the Green Building Council of South Africa and the Uptime Institute for Data Centre Design and Certification
Our objective is to deliver design projects that are innovative, responsive to socio, cultural and economic contexts and most importantly to deliver projects that are environmentally responsive and sustainable
We subscribe to the Alberti concept that ‘the house is the city and the city is the house,’ hence we apply a holistic approach to our designs

COMPANY ORGANOGRAM
OUR FOUNDER
Mrs Gorata Bontle Kgafela is a visionary leader in the built environment with many years of experience delivering innovative infrastructure projects.
As the President of the Architects Association of Botswana, Gorata is a Council Member of the Architects Registration Council and the African Union of Architects South Region Council.
Gorata’s role as a leader and public speaker in the built environment has seen her advocate for the empowerment of women and advising in policy formulation. She has been featured in various publications.
Gorata holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
She received her Architectural training in the USA, qualifying with a both a Master’s degree in Architecture and a Post Professional Master’s degree in Architecture in Computing from the University of Miami where she graduated as valedictorian and was honored with the Henry Adams Medal for Excellence in Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.
Mrs. Kgafela received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
