editorial identidad Tengo la impresión que el 2014 ha tenido algo más que la continuidad de la lucha por la igualdad de derechos.

Ha prevalecido con fuerza el tema de la identidad, que impregna la mayor parte de los aspectos de la vida. Este año, he observado más hombres ( homosexuales y heterosexuales ) empujando tranquilamente a sus hijos en cochecitos y a personas afirmando con bastante fuerza lo que significa para ellos ser catalán. ¿Qué significa ser catalán ? ¿Qué significa ser español? ¿Qué significa ser gay ? ¿Y qué es exactamente lo que significa ser heterosexual, hombre o mujer? Especialmente viendo que no es una elección que uno tenga que hacer para llegar a ser alguna de estas cosas.

La respuesta a todas estas preguntas es huidiza y muy personal. Lo transgénero también lo es, a rabiar... es curioso cómo los EE.UU., un país que está en lucha para conseguir un posicionamiento federal sobre la igualdad LGBT. Irónicamente es el lugar donde se proporciona a éstas cuestiones una plataforma de visibilidad haciendo ostensible una parte de la comunidad LGBT, que hoy casi no se percibe, en series televisivas como "Orange is the New Black" y "Transparent". ¡La discusión ha salido por fin a la luz !

Estas preguntas implican abiertamente que parece que todos pasemos por la vida con la necesidad de expresar nuestra individualidad y, a veces, definirla. A los que continúen tratando de averiguar las necesidades, deseos y atracciones que tenemos los unos por los otros, ¡buena suerte!

identity It seems 2014, for me, had more than the continued quest for equal rights. It had a strong theme of identity pervading most aspects of life. This year, I observed more men (gay and straight) leisurely pushing their children in strollers, and people quite strongly asserting what it means for them to be Catalan.

What does it mean to be Catalan? What does it mean to be Spanish? What does it mean to be gay? And what exactly does it mean to be straight, male or female? Especially as it isn’t a choice that anyone makes to be any of these things.

Nosotros en GSL las abrazamos todas, en este microcosmos llamado Sitges.

The answer to all of these questions is elusive, and very personal. Transgender too, was all the rage… its curious how the U.S.A., a country which struggles for a federal stance on LGBT equality, ironically is the place where these issues are provided a platform of visibility in the two television series, "Orange is the New Black" and "Transparent"; making visible a part of the LGBT community today hardly seen.

The discussion has finally come to light!

These questions overtly imply that we all seem to go through life day to day, with a need to express our individuality and sometimes define it. Well for those who continue to try to figure out the needs, desires and attractions that we have for one another—good luck!

We at the GSL embrace all, all of us in this microcosm we call Sitges.

The magazine is a LGBT arts and culture magazine that explores the subculture by looking at what is important to the people who are in it. It’s about the lives we lead, not the traditional lifestyles society may believe we’re supposed to lead. Its content is informed and insightful; featuring a diverse range of writers from every section of the community. Its intent is to help LGBT readers learn a little about Sitges, their own heritage sustaining the connection between the present and the past, and to create a link with likeminded associations and municipal entities.

Gay Sites Link was created to nurture community, whether that be social, political, artistic or creative and ultimately it is also the goal of the magazine.

MArtín martín san juan Después de casi tres años como secretario de la asociación, tuve el honor de ser elegido presidente de Gay Sitges Link en una Junta General extraordinaria en octubre del año pasado, sucediendo así a nuestro anterior presidente y fundador Brandon Jones.

Si se me hubiera preguntado seis meses antes sobre mi voluntad de presentarme como candidato a presidente de GSL, mi respuesta hubiera sido un rotundo no. Habiendo trabajado junto a Brandon durante la mayoría de la vida de la asociación, tenía experiencia de primera mano de las dificultades que el cargo conllevaba, especialmente durante los primeros dos años en donde se trabajó muy duro por construir una identidad y unos valores que no todos los socios/as llegaron a compartir.

Pero ocurrió que a mediados del año pasado, casi coincidiendo con el lanzamiento del primer número de ésta revista, me di cuenta que la asociación había llegado a un estado de equilibrio consigo misma. Y la razón principal por la que se había alcanzado éste punto era que, de repente, todas las personas involucradas en la marcha de la asociación creían en la identidad y la dirección en la que GSL estaba avanzando. Todos remabamos en la misma dirección por un bien común, sin agendas ocultas o intereses propios.

Fue entonces cuando de repente descubrí que realmente me sentía muy orgulloso de pertenecer a Gay Sitges Link y de todo lo que la asociación había conseguido hasta entonces. Me dí cuenta de que en verdad estábamos creado comundidad. Fue ese orgullo y esas ganas de seguir adelante por el camino trazado que me animaron a considerar el tomar las riendas y trabajar por la continuidad que Brandon y el comité habían marcado. ¡Y aquí me tenéis, nueve meses después, a vuestro servicio!

CONTRIBUTION TO MOVE FORWARD by

MArtín martín san Juan After almost three years as the association’s secretary, I had the honour to be elected as President of Gay Sitges Link at an extraordinary general meeting held last October, thereby succeeding our previous founding President, Brandon Jones.

If I had been asked six months earlier about my willingness to offer myself as a candidate for the GSL presidency, my answer would have been a definite no. Having worked with Brandon from almost the beginning of the association, I knew of the difficulties this role entailed. It was during the first two years that all the hard work had been done to establish and build an identity. It was a pity that not all members were willing to share and add their support during this period.

But it so happened that by the middle of 2014, coinciding with the launch of this magazine’s first issue and feeling comfortable in our new centre, I came to realize that the association had created a sense of equilibrium with itself.

The main reason for reaching this conclusion was that, suddenly, everyone wanted to be more involved in the development of the association, believing that GSL was

Pero tener la identidad y la dirección definida no significa que no haya retos que afrontar. Para mí el desafío más importante es convencer a nuestros socios/as que su contribución a GSL es parte vital de la asociación.

Por ello mi intención principal este año es animar a todos/as a que contribuyan en Gay Sitges Link con su esfuerzo mediante el voluntariado, la presentación de iniciativas, la colaboración en propuestas, la creación de proyectos, etc. para ayudar a afianzar y a construir esta increíble asociación de la que me enorgullece formar parte y cuya validez y existencia no es más que el reflejo del trabajo colectivo de todos.

Quiero, en definitiva, cormpartir este orgullo.

Quiero contar con vosotros, contribuir para avanzar…

el desafío más importante es convencer a nuestros socios/as que su contribución a GSL es parte vital de la asociación

moving in the right direction. We were all “singing from the same songsheet” towards a common goal, without any hidden agendas or self-interests.

At this point, I realized that I was feeling very proud to be a member of Gay Sitges Link and of all its achievements so far. We were truly creating a sense of community. I discovered a desire to move forward which in part led me to consider putting my name forward as a possible candidate to take over the reins from Brandon and form a new committee. So here I am, nine months later, at your service!

However, having now defined our identity and future direction, this doesn’t mean we can “rest on our laurels”. For me the greatest challenge is to convince our members that their personal contribution to GSL is a vital part of the association.

This is why my main objective for this year is to encourage everyone to contribute to Gay Sitges Link with renewed effort by volunteering, helping to present new initiatives, collaborating and helping with proposals, the creation of interesting new projects, etc. This is the way forward to secure and build this amazing association which I am very proud to be part of and whose validity and existence is a reflection of the collective effort by everybody.

In a nutshell, I want to share this pride with you.

I want to count on your support; your contribution to move forward…

the greatest challenge is to convince our members that their personal contribution to GSL is a vital part of the association.

Recaudando fondos para GSL y en nombre de otros La actividad de la asociación durante la temporada pasada y principios del 2015 se puede resumir como frenética. La ubicación de nuestro nuevo Centro, que estrenamos a principios del 2014, nos ha abierto las puertas a nuevos projectos y eventos con el principal objetivo de recaudar los fondos que tanto necesitamos para poder seguir trabajando.

Es por ello que durante los últimos doce meses hemos sido muy cuidadosos con el control del gasto y con los métodos para obtener nuestra financiación.Pero siguiendo el espíritu de la asociación de crear comunidad en el pueblo, en Gay Sitges Link no trabajamos sólo para nuestro beneficio económico. De hecho en los últimos meses hemos organizado varios eventos para ayudar a otras asociaciones y entidades.

El primero y el más siginficativo fue nuestra Fiesta Blanca con Corazón, que se celebró el Viernes 13 de Junio durante la Gay Pride y que tuvo como objetivo el recaudar fondos para la Fundación Ave María, que acoge en Sitges a personas adultas con severa discapacidad intelectual.

En este evento, y gracias a la colaboración del Gremi d’Hostelería, pudimos involucrar a muchos negocios locales a los que animamos a vestirse de blanco y a los que proporcionamos huchas y otros materiales para ayudar a la colecta de donaciones. Al final del día conseguimos recaudar 2.550€ para la Fundación.

Este año pretendemos repetir el evento (19 de Junio – anotadlo en vuestras agendas) y expandir el alcance por todo el pueblo para, por lo menos, poder recolectar el doble del año anterior.

Otra fecha en la que nos empleamos para ayudar a la comunidad es el 1 de Diciembre con ocasión del Día Mundial del SIDA. Como cada año, intentamos organizar un evento para recoger donaciones para nuestra entidad amiga STOP SIDA que nos ayudó durante el 2014 haciendo las pruebas del VIH y de sífilis en nuestro Centro una vez al mes.

Para este día organizamos una tarde de cine en el restaurante Queenz en el que, además de las donaciones recogidas para la ocasión, se nos entregó la mitad de los beneficios de caja obtenidos con la venta de bebidas.

En GSL estamos siempre abiertos a cualquier sugerencia de iniciativas y eventos para captar donativos tanto para nuestra asociación como para otras entidades amigas que apoyen nuestro propósito de crear comunidad.

Raising Funds for GSL and on Behalf of Others The association’s activity during the last season and the beginning of 2015 can be summarized as frantic. The location of our new Centre, which opened at the beginning of 2014, has given us many opportunities in the shape of new projects and events with the main objective of raising much needed funds to carry on with our work.

That is why during the last twelve months we have been very careful to control our spending and to use methods to get our funding.

But following the association’s aim of creating community for the town, at Gay Sitges Link we don’t just work for our own economic gains. In fact, during the last months we have organized various events to help other associations or entities.

actividades y noticias LGTB 2014 • 2014 LGBT activities and news Since September 2014, we’ve been very fortunate in having a regular 3-page section dedicated to the association in the monthly publication, InfoGuía Sitges Magazine. In this section we publish details about our actions or events in the previous month, as well as additional news for the current one.

Desde Septiembre del 2014 tenemos la suerte de tener una sección regular de tres páginas dedicada a la asociación en la revista mensual InfoGuía Sitges Magazine. En ella publicamos detalles sobre nuestras acciones o eventos del mes anterior, ademas de otras reseñas para el mes actual.

El lado reivindicativo de la asociación Aunque en GSL tenemos debilidad por el aspecto lúdico y social, tambien nos comprometemos con acciones de concienciación hacia el colectivo LGTB.

The first and most significant one was our White Party with Heart, which took place on Friday, June 13th during the Gay Pride festivities. The aim of this party was to raise funds for the Ave Maria Foundation in Sitges, who takes care of adults with severe intellectual disabilities.

En este aspecto tenemos dos fechas clave en el calendario: la primera es el Día Internacional contra la Homofobia and Transfobia (17 de Mayo). En el 2014 ésta fecha fué especialmente importante en Sitges porque se inauguró el traslado del monumento “Sitges contra la Homofóbia” desde su antigua localización en el espigón a su nueva ubicación en el paseo marítimo.

At this event, and with the help of the Gremi d’Hostelería (Sitges Licensed Victuallers’ Association), we got many local businesses involved in dressing all in white. We provided them with collection boxes and other materials to help with the donations. At the end of the day we managed to collect 2,550€ for the Foundation.

Además de tomar parte en este importante evento, GSL organizó para ese día una conferencia sobre la LGBTfobia, además de una marcha reivindicativa por el centro del pueblo. La otra fecha importante es, por supuesto, el Día del Orgullo LGTB (28 de Junio).

This year we are planning to repeat the event (June 19th 2015 – put the date down in your agenda!) and extend its reach throughout the town with the aim of collecting double last years’ takings.

Desde que se creó la organización hace ahora casi 4 años, hemos tenido oportunidad de concienciar al consistorio de Sitges para que cuelgue en este día la bandera del Arco Iris en el balcón del Ayuntamiento.

En 2014 el evento se realzó por la lectura del manifiesto en 8 idiomas diferentes, además de por la presencia de honor de Íñigo Lamarca, por dos veces Defensor del Pueblo Vasco. Durante el día también llevamos a cabo una conferencia presidida por el Sr. Lamarca sobre la “Homosexualidad en la adolescencia”.

Una vez más, en Gay Sitges Link estamos abiertos a sugerencias sobre cómo promover nuestros actos reivindicativos para conseguir, si es posible, más impacto y un mayor alcance de audiencia.

Another date on which we work to help the community is on December 1st. when we celebrate World AIDS Day. As every year we try to organize an event to collect donations to our sister entity STOP AIDS, who helped us during 2014 with HIV and syphilis testing once a month at our Centre.

For this day we organized a movie afternoon at Queenz restaurant.

As well as the donations collected for the occasion, we were offered half of the bar takings from the sale of drinks.

At GSL we are always opened to any ideas or suggestions to raise funds either for our association or for other entities who support and share our objective of creating community.

Awareness Of The Association Although at GSL we have a weakness for our social and leisure side, we are also committed to act to raise awareness for issues that affect the LGBT community.

In relation to this, we have two key dates on our calendar. The first is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (May 17th). In 2014, this date was very important in Sitges because we unveiled the relocation of the “Sitges Against Homophobia” monument, from the water break to its new home on the main promenade.

As well as taking part on this important event, GSL organized for this day a conference about LGBT-phobia, as well as an awareness march through the centre of town. The other important date is of course, LGBT Pride Day (June 28th).

Since the association was founded almost four years ago we had the chance to raise awareness in cooperation with local government, by raising the rainbow flag from the Town Hall’s balcony on this day.

In 2014, this event was highlighted by the reading of the manifesto in eight different languages, as well as for the honorary presence of Íñigo Lamarca, twice Basque Country Ombudsman. On the day we also held a conference chaired by Mr. Lamarca, “Homosexuality in Adolescence”.

Once again, at Gay Sitges Link we are opened to suggestions on how to promote our awareness events in order to achieve greater impact and to reach greater audiences.

l Tribunal Superior de Justicia de la India ha reconocido a las personas transgénero como un tercer género, en un acuerdo de gobierno, el pasado 15 de abril. Pero la India no es el primer país en Asia que reconoce un tercer género.

Nepal reconoció un tercer género en 2007 cuando el Tribunal Superior de Justicia ordenó al gobierno que derrogara toda ley que discriminara en base a la orientación sexual o a la identidad de género.

Bangladesh reconoció un tercer género en 2013: Hijra. Se trata de una identidad de género femenino de Sudasia que a menudo se acoje bajo el paraguas de “transgénero” en occidente. Pakistán

It was a milestone because gay marriage is not legal in China. Nevertheless, the union was binding because it occurred at the residence of British Ambassador Sebastian Wood—on sovereign British territory.

remains. Activists hailed this event as a significant step forward… Those who come out in China often face significant pressure to undergo sexuality "treatment" or marry a partner of the opposite sex.

Clinics still claim to cure homosexuality with electroshock therapy and hypnosis. Electroshock therapy in this case, Conversion therapy (also known as reparative therapy) is based on the assumption that a patient should and could change his/her sexual homosexual orientation.

inlandia votó para que los matrimonios de parejas del mismo sexo tengan los mismos derechos que los matrimonios de parejas heterosexuales. Desde 2002, a las parejas homosexuales en Finlandia se les permite registrarse en el registro de parejas.

De acuerdo con la sentencia del 28 de noviembre de 2014, han conseguido los mismos derechos legales que las parejas heterosexuales y pueden adoptar niños y darles el apellido.

Following the ruling on November 28, 2014, they have been afforded the same legal rights as heterosexual married couples, and are able to adopt children and share a surname.

Also in Finland, last September saw the launch of a stamp series issued by the Finnish Postal service (Itella Posti Oy) with Tom of Finland (Touko Laaksonen, 1920-1991), who is considered one of the most well known Finnish artists around the world. Response to the stamps in Russia: Vitaly Milonov, who was the politician behind St Petersburg’s anti-gay law said he wants Russia’s postal service to return-to-sender any mail which bears the Tom of Finland stamps. He said, “they are basically elements of homosexual propaganda, which is banned in our country”. “I ask the leadership of the Russian Post to pay close attention to this request. s important as his invention was to world history, Alan Turing was discredited simply because he was homosexual. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of Alan Turing in the 2014 film, The Imitation Game, has shone light on the brilliant scientist’s story. The film highlights his days as a Second World War code breaker at Bletchley Park (the United Kingdom's Government Code and Cypher School) where he created with engineer Tommy Flowers, the Colossus computer (the world's first programmable, electronic, digital computer) which saw him hailed as the father of modern computing.

Turing, whose work creating the Enigma code-breaking machine, made him primarily responsible for the defeat of Nazi Germany and was convicted in 1952 of gross indecency (with a 19-year-old man).

He was ordered to undergo “chemical castration”. The treatment not having affected his sexual orientation did cause breast enlargement and erectile dysfunction. Two years later he died from cyanide poisoning in an apparent suicide.

or years, bills legalizing gay partnerships have floundered in Parliament. Over the past 15 years however, several Italian cities including Milan, last year have enacted a civil registry for same-sex couples, but the few rights they are allowed stop at the city’s boundary.

Having said that, Findus, a frozen food company, produced a commercial last June in

which —no faces are shown. It depicted an Italian mother, her son Luca and his boyfriend Gianni about to enjoy a pasta dish, when Luca comes out to her! It is believed to be the first gay-friendly ad in the European country. The campaign comes less than a year after Guido Barilla, chairman of the Italian pasta giant, Barilla stated, "I would never do an advert with a homosexual family... if the gays don't like it they can go and eat another brand”.

Italy continues to lag behind most Western European countries in equality issues and does not recognize same-sex unions of any kind.

Orgullo Gay de Sitges Sitges Gay Pride La palabra orgullo fue elegida para oponerse a la vergüenza y el estigma social prevalente que impregnaba la vida de muchos, y es el punto de vista predominante en el evento para impulsar los movimientos por los derechos LGTB en todo el mundo. The word Pride was chosen to oppose the prevalent shame and social stigma which permeates the lives of many, and is the predominant outlook at the event to bolster LGBT rights movements throughout the world. Gay Pride was born from the 1969 Stonewall riots and subsequent protests, when a number of gay men in New York had had enough of police raids on their bars.

In the gay community, the White Party is what is known as a circuit party, and is just one of hundreds of gay parties that take place in major cities, and gay enclaves around the globe all year-round. These parties are held just as a novelty themed club gathering or as fundraiser’s for HIV/AIDS research or other gay-related charitable causes.

In Sitges, the aim of this party is to enable the GSL raise funds for the Ave Maria Foundation, who takes care of adults with severe intellectual disabilities.

La ruta del arco iris es un itinerario guiado por las calles y las plazas de Sitges que ilustra sobre las otras historias, las pequeñas historias del colectivo gay que han ocurrido en distintos momentos a partir de finales de siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX. Con la llegada del ferrocarril en 1881 Sitges se convirtió en un lugar de veraneo bien comunicado con Barcelona. Y poco después, Santiago Rusiñol y sus amigos modernistas fueron, en cierta manera, los responsables de generar el ambiente liberal y tolerante que ha convertido Sitges en paraíso gay. La tolerancia de los sitgetanos ha sido el estandarte bajo el cual se han refugiado los homosexuales, las lesbianas y otros colectivos minoritarios que han entendido su identidad fuera de la normativa heterodoxa, como las personas LGBT. Los americanos, emigrantes enriquecidos en las colonias españolas que regresaron a su lugar de nacimiento, contribuyeron al renombre de Sitges donde construyeron grandes mansiones con jardines que recordaban los países tropicales como Cuba o Puerto Rico.

El carnaval, con sus mascaradas y bailes, fue una fiesta de ida y vuelta a las Américas de las que regresó también enriquecido, con plumas y nuevos ritmos.

Las fiestas modernistas celebradas en Sitges impregnaron de cultura todos los rincones del pueblo marinero y predispusieron a los sitgetanos a aceptar las más locas propuestas. A principios de siglo XX, Sitges aparece ya en la trama de la novela verde titulada El octavo pecado capital, de Alvaro de Retana, escritor sicalíptico y decadente madrileño.

Y Antonio Amaya, cantante de género folklórico español, fue un personaje importante que adoptó Sitges como residencia abriendo su club, Chez Antonio en la calle de San Buenaventura.

El anonimato de famosos ha sido una de las mejores bazas que Sitges ha ofrecido, el ambiente cosmopolita ha acompañado esta villa balnearia cercana a Barcelona y donde han tenido lugar acontecimientos notables como la actuación del ballet de Mercier Philip "Merce" Cunningham acompañado de su pareja, el músico John Cage.

The Rainbow Route is a guided tour through the streets and squares of Sitges illustrating the other stories, small stories of the gay community that have occurred at different times from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. With the arrival of the railway in 1881, Sitges became a resort well connected to

Barcelona. And shortly after, Santiago Rusiñol and his modernist friends in some way were responsible for giving the liberal and tolerant atmosphere that makes Sitges a gay paradise. The tolerance of Sitgetans was the banner under which many took refuge—homosexuals, lesbians and other minority groups who understood their identity outside the heterodox standards as LGBT people.

In the early twentieth century, Sitges already appeared in the plot of the novel entitled, The Eighth Deadly Sin, by Alvaro de Retana, the risque and decadent writer from Madrid.

The echoes of Rusiñol and his modernist parties continues to resound in the 20s, when Sitges becomes a location for films and also sporadic residence for gay

Buster Keaton rested for a few days at the Hotel Terramar Sitges with his friend actor Gilbert Roland (Luis Alonso) and actresses Norma and Natalie Talmadge. Jose (Pepito) de Zamora discovered Sitges through filming with Benito Perojo and soon Sitges became his favorite place to spend summers. Zamora, illustrator and costume designer for the Casino de Paris, boasted about the beach, Playa de Oro. Every summer he returned with his best friend, José the Greek and other Parisian cabaret stars where they found a quiet place to rest.

Generally, the definition of gender tends to describe it as being the range of characteristics pertaining to, and differentiating between, masculinity and femininity.

A more accurate definition of gender comes from the Appalachian State University, which states, “Gender is exhibited by countless signals, from articles of clothing to cosmetics, hairstyles, conversational styles, body language and much more”. This is curious, as masculinity and femininity aren’t even mentioned here.

Las dos que recuerdo ahora son trans-male y trans-man. ¿Hemos descubierto el Mediterráneo? Quizás sí, quizás no; de cualquier forma, los medios de comunicación social facilitan el encuentro de individuos con opciones similares. Estas múltiples formas de autoexpresión tendrán una aceptación más generalizada dentro de unos años.

Aquí no decimos nada del otro mundo. Básicamente, el sexo es una descripción de autoexpresión. Y podemos decir que hoy día hay entremedios de las dos categorías tradicionales: hombre o mujer, él o ella. ¿Y por qué no? Quitémonos las máscaras y ahorrémonos prejuicios porque no se trata de etiquetar, o al menos no de etiquetar únicamente sobre sexo.

En culturas de todo el mundo, la gente se atreve a encontrar nuevas formas de expresar su sexo con sutilezas emocionantes, y profundizar en todos los diferentes tipos de relaciones que a menudo confunden a los demás ... Tengo una idea radical. Vamos a empezar con ser simplemente humanos humanos y entrar en el maravilloso mundo de la aceptación.

Even British Facebook users (in the UK) can now choose from an additional 21 gender options, following the sites’ successful offering in the US of 5o+ options last year. Although personally having looked through all the alternative options, I see the titles or categories as variations of wording. For example, two of which come to mind is, Trans-male or Trans-man. Are we reinventing the wheel?

Maybe yes, maybe no—however, on social media it does make it easier to find or meet like-minded individuals. This multitude of self-expression will no doubt lead to official and public acceptance in one form or another in years to come.

Ultimately, we’re not talking about rocket science here. Basically, gender is a description of self-expression.

And today, a crossover between the two traditional categories of boy or girl, he or she, is on offer. Why not? Let’s take off our masks, and put judgements aside, because it’s not about labelling or just about sex either. In cultures around our world, people dare to find new ways of expressing their gender with exciting subtleties, and delve into all different kinds of relationships which often confuse others… I have a radical idea. Let’s start with being human and tap into the wonderful world of acceptance.

antener el impulso para que la igualdad y los derechos de los homosexuales sigan avanzando hacia la aceptación universal no es tarea fácil. Gays y personalidades en el pináculo de su especialidad, empresas o carreras están ayudando a acelerar la velocidad de la causa.

Personalidades gay de alto perfil, no necesariamente activistas gays, por el solo hecho de salir del armario y ser exitosos, envían el mensaje de que pueden aceptar su identidad sexual y seguir siendo exitosos. Los ejemplos constantes de personas exitosas de orientación sexual diferente (diferente origen étnico o género) demuestran lo capaces y "normales" que son.

Dos ejemplos en la escena mundial:Tim Cook - Nuevo Consejero Delegado de Apple (y posiblemente el consejero delegado más poderoso en el mundo). Fue contratado por Apple en 1998 como Vicepresidente Senior de Operaciones, supervisando la fabricación de ordenadores. Después de Cook fue ascendido a jefe de ventas en todo el mundo y de la división de Macintosh. Antes de salir del armario, se le denominaba como un "soltero de por vida" y de ser "intensamente privado" y se especulaba que podría ser homosexual. Él escribió (publicado en la revista de negocios de Bloomberg Businessweek donde reconoció públicamente su sexualidad), "He tenido la suerte de trabajar en una empresa que le encanta la creatividad y la innovación y sabe que sólo puede florecer cuando aceptas las diferencias de la gente ".

Los ejecutivos de Apple hoy en día le apoyan explícitamente ahora que ha reconocido públicamente su orientación sexual y su “salida” no ha tenido un impacto negativo en la percepción de la marca Apple. De hecho, Apple reportó entonces su mejor trimestre jamás obtenido (el último trimestre de 2014), aquel en la que su director general salió del armario.

También ganó el Oscar a la mejor película extranjera en ese mismo año. Su siguiente película fue Ágora, protagonizada por Rachel Weisz. En la actualidad, está trabajando en la película que escribió, Regresión, un thriller estadounidense-español protagonizado por Ethan Hawke y Emma Watson. La película está programada para ser estrenada el 28 de agosto de 2015 en los EE.UU.

eeping the momentum of gay rights and equality moving forward to universal acceptance is no easy feat. Gay individuals and personalities at the “top of their game” or at the pinnacle of their field of expertise, companies, or careers are helping to quicken the speed of the cause.

Presenter at Telecinco Vázquez is an award-winning presenter carving out quite a career in television. He is openly gay and is a very visible advocate for gay rights.

Before coming out, he was referred as a "lifelong bachelor" and being "intensely private” and there was speculation that he might be gay.

He wrote (published in Bloomberg Businessweek magazine where he publically acknowledged his sexuality), "I've had the good fortune to work at a company that loves creativity and innovation and knows it can only flourish when you embrace people's differences”.

Apple executives today clearly support him now that he has publicly acknowledged his sexual orientation, and his coming out hasn’t had a negative impact on the perception of the Apple brand. In fact, Apple reported its then best quarter (last quarter of 2014) ever, the one in which its CEO, came out. Apple continues to reach higher heights.

Alejandro Amenábar is the son of a Spanish woman and a Chilean man, and has dual Chilean-Spanish citizenship. His family settled in Madrid, when he was only one year old. After going public with his sexuality around 2004, he has said, "It scares me that people can intrude into my private life, but on the other hand, I do not mind admitting that I'm gay”.

The Spanish director created the films, The Others with Nicole Kidman and The Sea Inside, a real life-story about a quadriplegic Ramón Sampedro (played by Javier Bardem), which won 14 Goyas (including best movie and best director). He also won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film that same year. His next film was, Agora, starring Rachel Weisz. Donating to GSL

Nuestro presupuesto operativo para 2015 es de 8,500€. Pero ésta cantidad sólo nos permite abrir las puertas de nuestra oficina y ofrecer a nuestros socios/as y visitantes la oportunidad de hacer preguntas para que podamos atender cualquier problema que puedan tener. Cualquier proyecto o evento de la asociación tiene que cubrir sus propios gastos y, si es posible, generar fondos que ayuden al presupuesto anual. Es por esto que durante los últimos doce meses hemos sido muy conscientes de controlar nuestros gastos y, simultáneamente, buscar vías de autofinanciación. GSL se mantiene y mantiene su independencia gracias a las donaciones de sus miembros, de particulares y de empresas.

Our operational budget for this year is 8.500€. But this amount only allows us to open the doors of our offices and attend our members and visitors with questions or problems they might have. Each of the association’s projects or events must ensure that it covers its own costs and that, if possible, it generates funds towards the annual budget. This is why during the last twelve months we’ve been very conscious about both controlling our expenses and seeking ways to finance ourselves. GSL is maintained and maintains its independence thanks to donations from its members, from individuals and companies.

También necesitamos reconocer que algunas conductas y costumbres personales pueden implicar reaprender ciertas creencias personales y percepciones de otros.

Begins with Us as Individuals By having honest, open dialogue requires that each of us be willing to listen to, attempt to understand, and give consideration to individuals, perceptions, and interpretations that may challenge, even conflict with, some of our personal beliefs.

To show respect for others as individuals and as groups, even if we disagree deeply with the ideas and opinions that they express and believe, so that the differences expressed, do not result in divisiveness.

We also need to recognize that some personal customs and behaviours may involve relearning certain personal beliefs and perceptions of others.

As individuals, each of us should be willing to move beyond words and take action.
