CONCEPT STATEMENT This community clinic will be designed to reflect the history of Lumberton, Mississippi as well as its’ residents.

This will be accomplished by using organic wood finishes, historic images, and local art. Natural light will be incorporated where possible throughout the design. The color palette for this space will reflect that of the outside world with the use of warm greens and blues. This clinic will promote health and fitness among community patrons by proving a fully equipped fitness center and community room for various uses. Employees will be able to utilize the break room to enjoy their lunch or decompress before they return to work. This space will employ calming colors and streamline furnishings to produce a relaxing environment that employees can retreat and recharge. Walking into this space will not feel like walking into a small-town health clinic, but rather, an environment that promotes healing and community wellness.

This will be accomplished by utilizing wood finished to pay homage to lumber industry and incorporating images and art that reflect the history of the city.

This will be accomplished by providing a break room that will serve as a retreat space for employees as well as spaces for personal items to be stored

SITE INFO The city of Lumberton, Mississippi was organized in 1927 and was widely known in the area for its dealings in the lumber business, hence the name (sites.rootsweb.com, n.d.). Though the city was once flourishing, it began to take a decline as the lumber industry dried up and the surrounding cities grew larger. Lumberton is now classified as a rural city and as a result, has little to offer its residents regarding business, shopping and healthcare.

There are currently only two health providers in Lumberton apart from a single dental practice, the Lumberton Family Health Center and the Southeast MS Rural Health Center. These centers provide general health care services within the community and are limited when it comes to resources. Beyond general health issues, residents must go to larger surrounding cities to receive advanced care.

The area lacks a cohesive character or style and is in desperate need of a revamp. Existing buildings lack care and are falling in on themselves as a result. The center of town, typically where the most character will be, is desperately lacking. Consisting of a post office, a handful of churches, a library, a donut shop, one fast food restaurant, and one boutique, it comes across almost as a ghost town One of the only notable buildings in the city is the local post office. There is limited information available about this building as far as year built, architect, etc. But it appears as though the building was designed in a Federal revival style. This style is very straightforward and traditional, but some elements could be used as inspiration for future designs throughout the city.
