Welcome to Out On Film 2014! Welcome to Out On Film’s 27th anniversary film festival. We are delighted to be back! Thanks for joining us. Last year we celebrated with the biggest festival in our history — and we are hoping to top that this year. We open with Patrik-Ian Polk’s wonderful “Blackbird” — starring Mo’Nique, Isaiah Washington and Julian Walker — and close with David Au’s warm, crowd-pleasing “Eat With Me.” In between we have something for everyone — Andrea James’ hilarious “Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy;” the Sundance darling “Appropriate Behavior,” by Desiree Akhavan, featuring one-liners you’ll be quoting for a while; the wonderful documentary “Compared to What: The Incredible Journey of Barney Frank;” Daniel Ribeiro’s award-winning “The Way He Looks,” based on his short film “I Don’t Want to Go Back Alone;” Michele Josue’s beautiful “Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine;” Wade Gasque’s affecting “Tiger Orange;” and Hong Khaou’s wondrous, touching “Lilting.” We also have more short films than ever, including Jason Cohen’s Oscar-nominated “Facing Fear” and Glenn Gaylord’s raucous “If We Took a Holiday.” Out On Film has a crew of hard-working volunteers who help keep the festival running. Without Craig, Jim L., James, Jim A., Sean, Dan, Eric, Steve, Michael, Colin and Azor, Out On Film would not be possible. Out On Film would also not be possible without our sponsors and the accommodating staff of the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema, or without our audiences and supporters. As always, we are committed to making Out On Film a great community event — and the best festival it can be, bigger and better each year. We think Atlanta’s LGBT community and its allies deserve that, so please feel free to let us know how we’re doing. We hope you enjoy the festival. Grab some popcorn, your drink of choice and plan on calling Out On Film home for the next eight days. Please vote for your favorites in our Audience Awards and use this gorgeous program guide designed by The GA Voice to mark your calendar and plan your viewing. During the down time please visit the Absolut hospitality lounge at Après Diem next door and talk with our staff and visiting filmmakers. And stay there for a great meal as well. Thanks for your support! Jim Farmer Festival Director, Out On Film

The visit doesn’t go as intended and Daniel gets more than he bargained for. Marek, however, returns the following night to make good on their original plan and, soon, Daniel is a regular client. “PRIDE”

UK/120 min./Matthew Warchus Winner of the Queer Palm at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, this feel good charmer is a must see. Based on a true story, the film depicts a group of LGBT activists who raised money to help families affected by the UK miners’ strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign. The National Union of Mineworkers was reluctant to accept the group’s support due to the union’s public relations’ worries about being openly associated with a gay group, so the activists instead decided to take their donations directly to a small mining village in Wales — resulting in an alliance between the two communities, unlike any seen before.
