05 ASIAN GAMES The Asian Games have been hosted by nine countries. The most recent iteration of the games took place from September 23, 2023, to October 8, 2023, in Hangzhou, China. In Hangzhou, only four nations took home more than 100 medals. A seat in the Paris 2024 Olympics was guaranteed by the men's hockey team's gold medal, while the teams competing in kabaddi and cricket also won two gold medals apiece. Hangzhou also provided 74 Olympic slots for Paris 2024 in addition to medals: six for archery, ten for artistic swimming, thirty-four for boxing, two for breaking, two for hockey, ten for modern pentathlon, six for sailing, two for tennis, and two for water polo. Every four years, athletes from all around Asia compete in a continental multi-sport tournament called the Asian Games, or Asiad. From the inaugural Games in 1951 held in New Delhi, India, to the 1978 Games, the Games were overseen by the Asian Games Federation (AGF). Following the dissolution of the Asian Games Federation, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has been in charge of organizing the Games since 1982. The Games are regarded as the second-largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games and are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Since 2010, it has become customary for the Asian Para Games, which are held soon after the Asian Games, to be hosted by the Asian Games host. Similar to the continental Paralympic Games, only athletes with impairments are eligible for this competition. However, the contract for the host city in the Paralympic Games stipulates that
both events must be held, although in the case of Asia, this is not the case. As a result, both events operate independently of one another and may occasionally be staged in separate locations and nations in the future due to the Asian Para Games' absence from the Asian Games host city's contract.
655 Indian athletes competed at the Asian Games in Hangzhou INDIA CAPTURED A RECORD 107 MEDALS AT THE ASIAN GAMES 2023, INCLUDING 28 GOLD, 38 SILVER, AND 41 BRONZE. India won its first gold medal in badminton at the Asian Games thanks to Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy's men's doubles match. Japan will host the event in Nagoya for the third time. Following the COVID-19 pandemic-related postponement of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China to 2023, the event is scheduled to resume its customary 4-year cycle in 2023.
The OCA had initially scheduled the selection of the 2026 host city for 2018, but the region's intense athletic schedule— which includes the three Olympic Games that will be hosted in Pyeongchang, Tokyo, and Beijing between 2018 and 2022— caused the planning date to be pushed ahead.

Q.
HOW DID YOU MANAGE STUDIES ALONG WITH YOUR SPORTS?
I would like to express my complete appreciation for my parents. My father would manage my schedule. I was not only involved in sports but also in many other cultural activities. I would wake up at 3 AM every day. Mondays and Tuesdays were for my boxing practice. Wednesdays and Thursdays were dedicated to dance practice. Fridays and Saturdays were for music practice. And finally, Sunday was my rest day.
Q.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND DID YOU OVERCOME IT?
Being a South Indian, I was accustomed to a diet primarily consisting of rice. This transition to a different cuisine posed a significant challenge for me. Initially, I found it difficult to adjust my food intake to meet the demands of my training. Additionally, the limited availability of healthy meals in the hostel presented an obstacle in adhering to a balanced diet. Moreover, the lack of support from certain individuals, who suggested I abandon this sport due to the frequent injuries I sustained, further complicated my journey. However, my father's unwavering encouragement served as a pillar of strength, while my mother's concern for my well-being reflected her deeprooted love."
DEVI SUTHAPALLI
EITHER WE WIN OR LOSE WE JUST NEED TO TAKE 1 OR 2 DAYS AND GET BACK

Q.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOTIVATION?
Q.
My parents are my greatest motivation. Coming from a small town like Kakinada, it's a huge leap to reach international trekking or national sports. Generally, people from my place don't encourage girls to pursue sports as a career. They questioned my parents and put them in a difficult position. But my parents never let it bother them. While traveling to competitions, I sometimes felt like I couldn't do it yet, but behind the scenes, my parents fought society to bring me here. Their perseverance inspired me a lot.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-GAME OR POST-GAME ROUTINES FOR SKATING OR/AND TREKKING?
I have a flat foot so I can’t do long run or long marathon races so I prefer to do shorter races which were more comfortable for my body type. Before going for the sport, we concentrate on our strength basically so we do strength gaining workout and we need to have healthy meal. And post routine would be the same routine. Either we win or lose we just need to take 1 or 2 days and get back. Its same for the trekking we work out on cardio, heart health and how we could manage with less oxygen. Usually, the recovery after trekking is little longer as we go to different climate and for 10 days, we walk straight for 10-11 hours so we return with a cracked foot and broken fingernails, so we would consider resting and taking good nutrition food for 2-3 weeks.

This fresh air can invigorate the body, providing a refreshing change from the potentially stale or artificially ventilated air of indoor gyms.
Being in a natural environment can be motivating and inspiring. The scenic beauty of parks and green spaces can encourage individuals to engage in their workouts regularly. The sights, sounds, and even the changing weather can add a dynamic element to their fitness routines.
The sound of rustling leaves, chirping birds, or the gentle flow of water in nearby streams can help reduce stress and promote mental clarity. Engaging in physical activities amidst this backdrop can amplify the stress-relief benefits of exercise.

Proper fuelling ensures that the body can meet the demands of a rigorous training regimen. The Fitness Corner emphasizes the significance of nutrition by offering educational resources, dietary guidance, and sometimes even cooking classes to its users.

EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
STRESS AND ITS PHYSICAL EFFECTS
The mind-body connection recognizes that emotions have a tangible impact on the body. For example, stress, anxiety, and depression can lead to physical symptoms such as muscle tension, headaches, and even digestive issues. Emotional well-being is essential for maintaining a healthy and balanced body.
Stress is a prime example of how emotions can affect the body. When an individual experiences stress, the body responds by releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Chronic stress can lead to a range of physical health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and weakened immune function.
RELAXATION AND PHYSICAL HEALTH
PERFORMANCE AND FOCUS
On the flip side, relaxation and positive emotions have the opposite effect. Practices like meditation, deep breathing, and mindfulness can reduce stress and promote relaxation, leading to lower heart rate, improved sleep, and better immune system function. A relaxed mind contributes to a relaxed body.
The state of one's mind directly impacts their physical performance. Athletes often use techniques like visualization to mentally prepare for competitions, and studies have shown that a focused and confident mind can lead to improved physical performance.
PAIN MANAGEMENT The mind can play a role in how individuals perceive and manage pain. Mindfulness practices, for instance, can help individuals better tolerate pain and discomfort, making it easier to engage in physical activities even when facing discomfort.
