Accessibility, Acting, Movement Everyone deserves access to quality education. But if you’re like most theatre educators, you may feel ill-equipped to offer meaningful instruction to your students with disabilities. Learn three researched-based teaching strategies you can use to create more inclusive, more effective learning environments for students with developmental differences. Plus, gain three activities and four resources you can use in your classroom right away. Presenter - Kirsti Lewis helped develop an inclusive theater troupe in Florida, which inspired her thesis on society’s misguided assumptions about people with disabilities. In 2016, she founded People Like Us, and currently serves as the nonprofit’s Executive Director. Kirsti leads a team of neurodiverse therapists, consultants, and performing artists who consult with organizations across the country to help them build their own sustainable, inclusive performing arts programs. She authored “Raising the Curtain: A Comprehensive Guide for Creating a Musical Theater Program for All Abilities” and has developed a four-course curriculum consisting of twenty hours of professional development to help educators use the performing arts to create more effective learning environments for students with developmental disabilities. Kirsti also serves as an Executive Board member for Georgia’s Council of Exceptional Children (GACEC). _____________________________________________________________
A Theatre Teachers Guide to Georgia Connects and Georgia Inspire
Curriculum Planning The Georgia Department of Education has a new platform called GaConnects, where theatre teachers can find not only our standards but also GA theatre data dashboards, GA theatre teaching resources, theatre webinars, and professional learning in a one-stop shop. Best of all, you’ll find Georgia Inspire, where we are moving all our instructional framework content and putting them together for you in a platform where the information is more easily accessible. Theatre teachers now have direct access to resources for all theatre classes. Presenter - Paul McClain is an accomplished actor and dedicated performing arts educator/administrator based in the Metro Atlanta area. He currently holds the esteemed position of a Fine Arts Specialist within the Curriculum and Instruction Department at the Georgia Department of Education. Paul’s contributions to education are consistently enriched by his active engagement in various theatrical, film, and voice-over/narration ventures within the vibrant artistic community of Atlanta and its surroundings. _____________________________________________________________ MOVING FORWARD 8

Workshops and Presenters An Introduction to the Glamorous and Exciting World of Building Things out of Cardboard
Design/Puppet Construction Techniques Cardboard is one of the great construction mediums - it’s cheap, plentiful, and very forgiving. It also has a multitude of purposes. This workshop will introduce simple, practical design strategies and we’ll build a simple, moving mouth, Muppet-style puppet out of cardboard, using construction techniques that can be applied across theatrical boundaries.
