Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat For Humanity brings people together to build sustainable homes, communities, and hope. among the many who benefit from their outstanding efforts is the veteran community.

They explain, “Today, 1.4 million veterans live in poverty. Much of this results from the cost of housing, despite having access to VA loans and other assistance. Almost 4 million veterans pay at least 30 percent of their income toward their rent or mortgage, while over 1.5 million pay at least 50 percent. The latter represents an enormous strain on any budget.” Habitat seeks to serve the veteran community through their Veteran Initiative through the five focus areas of Building, Employment, Volunteer Engagement, Education, and Honor.
Many returning servicemen and women feel disconnected upon returning home. Habitat offers various employment and volunteer opportunities that allow them to work together with their families, other volunteers, and future Habitat homeowners, providing a sense of unity during and after the transition from the military. It also allows them an additional opportunity to support and strengthen their community.
Habitat for Humanity benefits the entire community in many ways:
● Habitat Homeowners have pride in their homes. ● Habitat Homeowners are involved in their communities.
● Otherwise vacant property is added to the tax roles.
● Habitat homes are built with low maintenance, high-quality materials to look good for a long time.
● Children raised in stable, consistent homes do better in school and life.
● Volunteer events build community participation.
“We are grateful to the men and women who have served our nation and are proud to be able to collaborate with them in various ways: Homeownership, home repair, employment, and volunteer opportunities,” says their Veteran coordinator.
