Dietro a quegli occhi azzurri come il mare, Laura Chiatti nasconde l’anima di una bambina. Negli ultimi anni l’attrice umbra, che il 15 luglio compirà 41 anni, ha preferito la famiglia alle luci della ribalta. Ama agire, fare e raccontare le storie in cui si riconosce.

E al cinema è tornata protagonista del drammatico thriller “La caccia”, per la prima volta diretta dal marito Marco Bocci. Il film è stato girato per la maggior parte in Umbria, dove la coppia vive insieme ai figli Enea (nato nel 2015) e Pablo (2016).

«È stato divertente. Mi conosce bene, sa quali sono i miei punti deboli e i miei punti di forza. E cosa mi piace interpretare», esordisce spiritosa e istintiva.

Com’è stato condividere il set con suo marito?

«Non avevamo mai lavorato insieme e non nego che ero abbastanza preoccupata. All’inizio era strano. Marco e io avevamo voglia di dividerci, volevamo essere molto professionali, quindi, dimenticarci della coppia, ma la sera ci trovavamo a cena tutti quanti a condividere idee, storie e alla fine ci ritroviamo per essere una coppia. Sul set siamo stati molto spontanei.

Il suo esordio al cinema è in un ruolo drammatico diretta da Paolo Sorrentino ne L’amico di famiglia. Poi tante esperienze con registi importanti, da Francesca Comencini a Pupi Avati, a Carlo Verdone.

«Mi hanno sempre proposto personaggi molto intensi, tormentati, poi ho virato verso la commedia, che mi è sembrata ben più complicata di un qualsiasi film drammatico. Sono stata felice di far risuonare corde che non mettevo in scena da molto tempo».

Ci sarà una seconda volta?

«Se vorrà. Ho assistito alla nascita di questo progetto e leggendo le pagine della sceneggiatura in cui c’era il personaggio di Silvia, mi sono quasi sovrapposta a lei, perché ho capito che Marco stava costruendo una Silvia che per certi aspetti mi somigliava. E’ una donna coraggiosa che ha inciampato e si è rialzata».

Ha accettato subito o è stata titubante?

«Se devo essere sincera penso sempre molto prima di accettare un lavoro. E lo dico in generale. In questo caso, poi, mi sentivo insicura, avevo paura che potessero nascere dei litigi o delle incomprensioni. In realtà, quando sono sul set mi trasformo: sono molto professionale, remissiva e tranquilla».

Anche a casa?

«No. Lì sono fumantina. Invece sul set sono molto disciplinata, amo essere diretta, perché quando mi gestisco da sola faccio dei gran casini. Se all’inizio ho fatto un po’ di fatica, poi mi ha fatto molto piacere lavorare con lui, perché è un’artista che stimo molto. Amo farmi dominare.

Spero si possa dire, perché dopo le polemiche a Domenica In, non voglio altri fraintendimenti, quindi per intenderci abbiamo rispettato i ruoli sul set».

Lo scorso anno ha ricevuto il Premio Anna Magnani, a 50 anni dalla sua scomparsa cosa ha rappresentato per lei?

«È stato un onore ricevere un riconoscimento così prestigioso. Anna Magnani era una donna straordinaria, inarrivabile. Una fonte di ispirazione per chi fa cinema. Anche se non sono romana, l’ho sempre sentita vicina e ammirata per la schiettezza che trasmetteva con i suoi personaggi, così fluidi e veri».

Qualche tempo fa dichiarava di volersi occupare più della famiglia che del lavoro. È ancora di questa idea?

«È vero, sullo schermo appaio poco. Quando sono nati i miei due figli ho pensato a quanto potessero aver bisogno di me, e star lontana da loro era inconcepibile. Adesso che sono cresciuti, paradossalmente mi cercano di più. Sono stata io a mettere la famiglia al primo posto. Sono felice di avere avuto la possibilità di poterlo fare».

Ha mai pensato di ritirarsi dalle scene?

«Recitare fa parte di me. Scelgo attentamente i ruoli, cercando di essere sempre presente per i miei figli. Sono principalmente la mamma. Quando sono sul set c’è Marco, ma ho anche due care amiche che mi aiutano con i bambini. Sono molto fortunata. Abito in un piccolo borgo e posso sempre contare su qualcuno. Ho mantenuto un legame forte con le mie origini. Se all’improvviso ho bisogno di una mano, arrivano tutti in due minuti di orologio. In una metropoli tutto questo sarebbe impossibile».

È una super mamma?

«Sono la mia priorità. Adesso che sono un po’ più grandicelli, però, se lavora il papà va tutto bene, al contrario, se lavoro io, iniziano a storcere il naso e a me vengono tutte le ansie del mondo. Ma alla fine, si sa, la mamma è sempre la mamma. Stiamo sempre insieme. È naturale quindi che con me abbiano un rapporto speciale, e poi c’è da dire che sono maschietti, quindi la mamma per loro è intoccabile. Sono legati sia a me che a Marco».

Tra i suoi hobby c’è anche il canto, se le proponessero un talent?

«Mi piacerebbe dedicarmi di più al canto. Alla fine sono molto unilaterale nelle mie cose, ne faccio bene solo una alla volta. Un talent show non mi dispiacerebbe. Però vorrei essere in gara tra i cantanti più che tra i giudici. Sono una che si mette sempre in gioco, poi unire il canto alla recitazione sarebbe davvero il massimo».

And she returned to the big screen as the protagonist in the dramatic thriller “The Hunt”, for the first time directed by her husband Marco Bocci. The film was mostly shot in Umbria, where the couple lives together with their sons Enea (born in 2015) and Pablo (2016). “It was fun. He knows me well, he knows my strengths and weaknesses. What was it like sharing the set with your husband?

«We had never worked together and I don’t deny that I was quite worried. At first it was strange. Marco and I wanted to split up, we wanted to be very professional, therefore, forget about the couple, but in the evening we all met for dinner to share ideas, stories and in the end we find ourselves as a couple. We were very spontaneous on set.

Your film debut was in a dramatic role directed by Paolo Sorrentino in The Family Friend. Then you had many experiences with important directors, from Francesca

Comencini to Pupi Avati, to Carlo Verdone.

«They always offered me very intense, tormented characters, then I veered towards comedy, which seemed to me much more complicated than any dramatic film. I was happy to resonate with strings that I hadn’t played for a long time».

Will there be a second time?

«If you want. I witnessed the birth of this project and in reading the pages of the script where the character of Silvia was, and I almost superimposed on her, because I understood that Marco was building a Silvia who in some respects resembled me. And she’s a brave woman who stumbled and got back up.”

Did you accept immediately or were you hesitant?

«To be honest, I always think a lot before accepting a job. And I mean that in general. In this case, I felt insecure. I was afraid that quarrels or misunderstandings could arise. In reality, when I’m on the set I transform: I’m very professional, submissive and calm».

Even at home?

“No. I’m smoking there. Instead, on set I am very disciplined. I love being direct, because when I manage myself I make a big mess. If even at the beginning I struggled a bit, then I was very pleased to work with him, because he is an artist whom I respect very much. I love to be dominated. I hope I can say that, because after the controversy on Domenica In, I don’t want any more misunderstandings, so to be clear we respected the roles on the set”.

Last year you received the Anna Magnani Award, 50 years after her death. What does that represent for you?

“It was an honor to receive such a prestigious award. Anna Magnani was an extraordinary woman, unattainable. She is a source of inspiration for those who make cinema. Even if you are not Roman, I have always felt close to and admired her for the sincerity that she conveyed with her characters, so fluid and true ».

Some time ago you declared that you wanted to take care of your family, more than work. Is this still your idea?

“It’s true, I appear very little on screen. When my two children were born, I thought about how much they might need me, and being away from them was inconceivable. Now that they’ve grown up, paradoxically they’re looking for me more. I was the one who put family first. Have you ever thought about retiring from the stage?

“Acting is part of me. I choose roles carefully, always trying to be there for my children. I’m mostly the mom. When I’m on the set Marco is there, but I also have two dear friends who help me with the children. I’m very lucky. I live in a small village and I can always count on someone. I have maintained a strong bond with my origins. If I suddenly need a hand, they all arrive within two minutes on the clock. In a metropolis all this would be impossible.

Are you a super mom?

“They are my priority. Now that I’m a little older, however, if dad works everything is fine, on the contrary, if I work, their noses start to turn up and I get all the the anxieties of the world. But in the end, you know, mom is always mom. We are always together. It is therefore natural that they have a special relationship with me, and then it must be said that they are boys, so their mother is untouchable for them. They are linked both to me and to Marco».

Among your hobbies is also singing, did they offer you a talent show?

“I would like to devote myself more to singing. In the end I’m very one-sided in my things, I only get one thing right at a time. I wouldn’t mind a talent show. But I would like to compete among the singers rather than among the judges. I am someone who always gets involved, then combining singing with acting would be really the best ».
