Raccontare la storia di Santo Versace è come addentrarsi in un universo formato da mille galassie ognuna con una propria visione, vita, anima e luce, un percorso professionale quello del fratello maggiore del grande stilista Gianni Versace che rispecchia nella sua totalità il viaggio di un uomo dalle umili radici che grazie a dei grandi valori fortemente radicati nel suo più profondo essere è stato capace di avere sempre una visione futuristica e all’avanguardia unita ad uno spirito d’iniziativa e a il coraggio di provarci sempre. Nel nostro incontro abbiamo voluto soffermaci sul profilo dell’uomo e del professionista che sin dalla giovane età ha dimostrato le sue notevoli capacità organizzative e di essere un leader e un protagonista in ogni cosa che fa, una carriera che attraversa spazi e luoghi in apparenza del tutto diversi ma nella loro più ampia visione uniti dallo stesso spirito e impegno, passione, dedizione e sacrificio. Cofondatore della Maison Versace insieme a suo fratello Gianni, fondatore e Presidente di Altagamma un’associazione nata per promuovere lo stile e il Made in italy nel mondo, Presidente della Camera Nazionale della Moda, un breve ma significativo approdo nella politica con la sua elezione alle politiche del 2008 è stato deputato parlamentare per tutta la XVI legislatura, l’acquisto di quote nel 2019 nel settore del cinema con l’ingresso insieme alla moglie Francesca nella Minerva Pictures per dare nuova linfa a una sua grandissima passione, ed infine la creazione nuovamente con la moglie della Fondazione Santo Versace. Raccontare del reggino Santo Versace è come tuffarsi in un enciclopedia di esperienze e saper fare dove ogni pagina è stata scritta per dare spazio alle idee, con una grandissima capacità di far quadrare i conti e di rendersi unico in alcuni casi irripetibile, un uomo capace di fare rete e sistema, mantenendo sempre i piedi piantati saldamente al terreno e occhi rivolti al cielo, per tentare di surclassarsi e raggiungere senza compromessi i propri obiettivi in qualsiasi direzione essi vadano. mondo, abbiamo una visione green che ci permette di essere all’avanguardia in qualsiasi settore ma ammetto che ancora oggi fare sistema e rete in Italia sia ancora molto complicato.

Santo lei ha dimostrato di essere un uomo dalle mille risorse ci può raccontare da cosa derivano tutte queste sue capacità?

Sin da piccolo ho avuto la sensazione di avere queste capacità, all’età di 6 anni chiesi a mio padre di seguirlo nel suo lavoro, a 13 anni ero il più giovane giocatore di basket in serie b sotto i 20 anni, la politica l’ho iniziata a frequentare da giovanissimo quando a Messina ero Presidente dei giovani socialisti, sono stato Presidente dell’Associazione Goliardica, ho insegnato per un periodo nella stessa scuola dove avevo studiato, ho lavorato in banca per un breve periodo, potrei continuare ancora con altre mille esperienze e iniziative, per arrivare poi alla fondazione insieme a mio fratello Gianni del brand Versace sino a farlo diventare grazie al mio importante contributo uno dei brand di moda più ricchi e importanti del panorama mondiale, insieme ad Angelo Zegna, Maurizio Gucci, Carlo Guglielmi, Michele Alessi ed altri importanti protagonisti del panorama imprenditoriale nazionale fondai l’associazione Altagamma, con l’iniziativa di promuovere lo stile italiano nel mondo, ma loro pretesero che io ne diventassi anche Presidente per le mie notevoli capacità di fare sistema e rete, insomma credo che sia parte del mio Dna quello di avere idee e iniziative e portarle sempre a buon fine.

Il suo ingresso nel cinema a cosa è dovuto?

Dopo la vendita della Versace mi è venuto naturale entrare nel mondo del cinema che è sempre stata una passione mia e di Gianni, guardavamo ore e ore i film dei grandi registi come De Sica e Fellini, il cinema e la moda hanno molto in comune entrambi sono ricchi di creatività e ingegno quindi il mio ingresso con l’acquisto delle quote della Minerva Pictures di Gianluca Curti è stato un atto dovuto alla mia passione, tra l’altro condivisa da mia moglie Francesca, nel 2019 ne sono diventato anche Presidente, Curti è figlio d’arte ma io e mia moglie abbiamo portato nella società un nuovo spirito e fresca linfa creativa, che hanno permesso alla Minerva di crescere anno dopo anno, adesso abbiamo 4 produzioni importanti che sono certo ci daranno grandi soddisfazioni, abbiamo anche vinto 2 Leoni al Festival del Cinema di Venezia, il Leone del Futuro e il Leone d’Argento, il mio prossimo obiettivo sarà portare un mio film oltre oceano e senza pudore vorrei puntare a vincere un Oscar.

Se potesse scegliere un regista e un attore del passato chi vorrebbe portare nel suo team?

Rispondo con molta facilità come regista direi Federico Fellini, come attore Marcello Mastroianni due icone intramontabili del cinema italiano.

Il cinema ha attraversato un periodo molto critico cosa ne pensa?

La crisi ormai è in parte superata, il covid19 purtroppo ha messo in crisi molti settori a livello mondiale ed il cinema è stato uno dei settori più colpiti, le sale erano vuote le produzioni erano ferme, adesso tutto sta tornando alla normalità ed aggiungo che anche i giovani stanno tornando ad appassionarsi a questo segmento sia come spettatori che come professionisti di questo settore, come attori, registi, scenografi e molti altri.

C’è un consiglio che si sente di dare alle nuove generazioni?

Lei ha dichiarato che alcune donne della sua vita hanno contribuito con il loro esempio alla nascita della Fondazione Santo Versace ci vuole dire di più?

Verissimo, sia mia madre che mia nonna come la mamma di Francesca erano donne con una grande forza e nonostante fossero residenti in Calabria erano donne che lavoravano, erano indipendenti e capaci di aiutare le persone meno fortunate, questa loro caratteristica l’abbiamo ereditata anche io e mia moglie e nel 2022 abbiamo fondato la nostra Fondazione con lo scopo di fare la “differenza”, aiutando le persone più fragili, quelle più deboli che necessitano di aiuto concreto e tangibile in modi possibili, siamo un ente filantropico, entrare a sostegno del sociale era un atto dovuto sia per me che per Francesca, che per fortuna e per capacità siamo stati più fortunati nel compiere il nostro percorso di vita e professionale, aiutare gli altri ti fa stare bene, ridisegna la visione che hai del prossimo e stimola l’impegno, abbiamo un rapporto diretto con chi aiutiamo, ci sentiamo vicini a loro e siamo in contatto diretto con i nostri finanziator cercando di coinvolgerli in una totale trasparenza, sosteniamo molti progetti no profit attraverso donazioni e servizi che aiutino le persone più fragili e bisognose, sia io che mia moglie Francesca De Stefano che tra l’altro è un avvocato cassazionista viviamo questa esperienza in prima persona.

Quanto è difficile fare sistema in Italia?

Se l’Italia avesse una politica più attenta e più vicina alla gente, capace di sviluppare al meglio le proprie risorse saremmo lo Stato economicamente più forte al mondo, abbiamo le nostre eccellenze uniche e irripetibili come l’arte, la cucina, la moda, il turismo, il cinema e la nostra creatività, pensate che l’associazione Altagamma da me fondata racchiude 112 aziende associate per 144 miliardi di € fatturato, capirete bene quanto questa fondazione rappresenti la creatività italiana nel

Parto da una dichiarazione fatta da Sergio Marchionne in una conferenza sui diritti, lui disse queste parole: tutti quelli che vogliono un Italia migliore hanno l’obbligo di fare qualcosa per cambiare le cose, a volte ho l’impressione che in Italia ci sia un atteggiamento passivo nei confronti del presente, si pretende spesso il diritto ad un futuro migliore senza avere la consapevolezza che bisogna costruirlo e conquistarlo questo futuro. Non sono un professore di psicologia ma comunque una la risposta a questo atteggiamento me la sono data, in modo paradossale le grandi conquiste hanno portato a risvolti importanti e non voluti, come nel 68 che con un movimento di lotta perfettamente condivisibile che ci ha permesso enormi passi avanti nelle conquiste sociali e civili, ha però avuto di conseguenza un risvolto dagli effetti devastanti nei confronti del “dovere”. Oggi viviamo nell’epoca dei diritti, quello al lavoro garantito, al posto fisso, il diritto a manifestare, urlare e pretendere, ma lasciatemi dire che i diritti proprio perché sacrosanti vanno tutelati, ma se continuiamo a vivere di soli diritti, di diritti moriremo. Le nuove generazioni sono più deboli di quelle precedenti, non sono più capaci di lottare, ma restano immobili e passive, attendendo che qualcun’altro lotti per loro, una specie di attendismo perverso ed involutivo, ed è per questo che dobbiamo tornare ad un sano senso del dovere e a una consapevolezza che per avere bisogna anche dare, riscoprire il senso della dignità e dell’impegno, il valore del contributo che ognuno di noi può dare al processo di costruzione dell’oggi, ma soprattutto del domani è fondamentale.

Questo è anche il mio pensiero, amo i giovani ed il loro entusiasmo consiglio loro di dare ampio spazio ai doveri e all’impegno, affinché si possano davvero pretendere quei meravigliosi diritti, impegno e sacrificio devono essere all’ordine del giorno solo in questo modo si possono raggiungere obiettivi impensabili e vincenti.

Con la moda un rapporto chiuso?

La moda rimarrà sempre nel mio cuore, mi ha dato tanto e tanto ho dato io a lei, ma adesso sono concentrato con Francesca nel settore del cinema e sulla Fondazione direi che basti al momento, molti amici mi chiedono consigli o consulenze in ambito fashion chissà che in futuro… mai dire mai.

In our meeting we wanted to dwell on the profile of the man and the professional who, from a young age, demonstrated his remarkable organizational skills of being a leader and a protagonist in everything he does, with a career that spanned diverse spaces and places, but in their broadest vision united by the same spirit and commitment, passion, dedication and sacrifice. Co-founder of the Maison Versace together with his brother Gianni, founder and President of Altagamma, an association created to promote style and Made in Italy in the wor- ld, President of the National Chamber of Fashion, a brief but significant arrival in politics with his election to the policies of 2008 he was a parliamentary deputy for the entire XVI legislature, the purchase of shares in 2019 entering into the cinema sector with together with his wife Francesca in Minerva Pictures to give new life to a great passion of his, and finally the creation of the Santo Versace Foundation, again with his wife.

Talking about Santo Versace from Reggio is like diving into an encyclopedia of experiences and know-how where each page has been written for ideas, with a great ability to make ends meet while staying unique and often never repeated. A man capable of creating a network and system, always keeping his feet firmly planted on the ground and eyes turned to the sky, to try to outclass himself and reach his goals without compromise in any direction they go.

Santo, you have shown that you are a man of a thousand resources, can you tell us where all these abilities come from?

Since I was a child I felt I had all these abilities. At the age of 6 I asked my father if I could follow him to work; at 13 I was the youngest basketball player in Serie B under 20; I started creating policy when I was very young in Messina when I was President of the young socialists; I was President of the Goliardic Association; I taught for a period in the same school where I studied; I worked in a bank for a short time. I could continue with a thousand more experiences and initiatives, to finally establish the foundation, together with my brother Gianni of the Versace brand, until it became thanks to my important contribution, one of the richest and most important fashion brands in the world fashion scene. Together with Angelo Zegna, Maurizio Gucci, Carlo Guglielmi, Michele Alessi and other important protagonists of the national entrepreneurial panorama, I founded the Altagamma association, with the initiative of promoting Italian style in the world, but they demanded that I also become its President due to my remarkable ability to create a system and network. In short, I think that it is part of my DNA to have ideas and initiatives and always bring them to fruition.

To what do you attribute your entry into cinema?

After the sale of Versace it came natural for me to enter the world of cinema which had always been a passion of mine and Gianni’s. We watched hours and hours of the films from great directors such as De Sica and Fellini. Cinema and fashion both have a lot in common. They are rich in creativity and ingenuity, so my entry with the purchase of Gianluca Curti’s shares in Minerva Pictures was an act due to my passion, shared among other things by my wife Francesca. In 2019 I also became President. Curti is the son of art but my wife and I have brought a new spirit and fresh creative flavor into the company, which has allowed Minerva to grow year after year. Now we have 4 important productions which I am sure will have great success. We also won 2 Lions at the Venice Film Festival; the Lion of the Future and the Silver Lion. My next goal will be to take one of my films overseas and without shame, I am aiming to win an Oscar.

If you could choose a director and an actor from the past to bring onto your team, who would they be? This is very easy for me to answer; as a director I would say Federico Fellini, as an actor Marcello Mastroianni, two timeless icons of Italian cinema.

Cinema has gone through a very critical period, what do you think?

The crisis is now partly over. Unfortunately covid19 put many sectors worldwide in crisis and cinema was one of the most affected. The theaters were empty and productions stopped, but now everything is returning to normal and I even young people are returning to their passion for the sector, both as spectators and as professionals like actors, directors, set designers and many others.

You have said that some women in your life have contributed to the birth of the Santo Versace Foundation. Can you elaborate?

Very true. Both my mother and my grandmother, like my wife Francesca’s mother, were women with great strength and despite being residents of Calabria they were working women. They were independent and capable of helping the less fortunate. We inherited this characteristic of theirs, and in 2022 we started our Foundation with the goal of making a “difference”, by helping the most fragile people, and the weakest who need concrete and tangible help. We are a philanthropic body, in support of the society is a duty both for me and for Francesca. We are lucky and having been able to complete our life and professional paths, helping others makes us feel good, redraws our vision of others and stimulates our commitment. We have a direct relationship with those we help. We feel clo- se to them and we are in direct contact with our donors by always trying to involve them in total transparency. We support many non-profit projects through donations and services that help the most fragile and needy people. Both me and my wife Francesca De Stefano who is also a lawyer are living this experience firsthand.

How difficult is it to create a system in Italy?

If Italy had a more attentive policy closer to the people, capable of developing its resources to the fullest, we would be economically the strongest state in the world. We have our unique and unrepeatable excellences such as art, cuisine, fashion, tourism, cinema and our creativity. If you think about how the Altagamma Association I founded includes 112 member companies for a turnover of €144 billion, you will understand how much this foundation represents Italian creativity in the world. We have a green vision that allows us to be at the forefront in any sector but I admit that even today creating a system and network in Italy is still very complicated.

Is there any advice you can give to the new generations?

I’ll start with something Sergio Marchionne stated in a conference on rights. He said these words: all those who want a better Italy have an obligation to do something to change things. Sometimes I have the impression that in Italy there is a passive attitude towards the present. One often claims the right to a better future without being aware that this future must be built and conquered. I’m not a professor of psychology but in any case I gave myself an answer to this attitude. In a paradoxical way the great conquests have led to important and unwanted implications. Such as in 1968 when a perfectly acceptable movement that allowed us enormous progress in social and civil conquests, consequently had a devastating impact on “duty”. Today we live in the age of rights, that of guaranteed work, a permanent job, the right to demonstrate, scream and demand. But let me tell you that rights, precisely because they are sacrosanct, must be protected, but if we continue to live on rights alone, we will die on rights . The new generations are weaker than the previous ones. They are no longer capable of fighting, but remain motionless and passive, waiting for someone else to fight for them, with a kind of perverse and involutionary waitand-see attitude, and this is why we must return to a healthy sense of duty and an awareness that to have, one must also give, rediscovering the sense of dignity and commitment, the value of contribution that each of us can make to the process of building today, but above all tomorrow is fundamental. Also, I love young people and their enthusiasm and I advise them to give ample space to duties and commitment, so that they can really claim those wonderful rights. Commitment and sacrifice must be on the agenda and only in this way, can unimaginable and winning goals can be achieved.

Is your relationship with fashion over?

Fashion will always remain in my heart. It has given me so much and I have given it so much, but now I am focused, with Francesca, on the cinema sector and on the Foundation. That is plenty at the moment. Many friends ask me for advice or consultancy in the fashion industry, so who knows what’s in the future… never say never.

Prediligono cabine vista mare cercano comfort e relax e, per fare ciò, sono disposti anche a mettere mano al portafoglio e spendere fino a 3.654 euro pro capite, dicono gli analisti del portale. 1Certo è che sono ormai superati i tempi in cui le crociere erano considerate vacanze per over-60, un’icona alimentata dalla nota serie tv “Love Boat” i cui protagonisti — appunto— non erano proprio giovanissimi. Oggi, invece, la crociera è roba da giovani: secondo quanto osserva il portale, il 46% dei crocieristi ha tra i 18 ed i 45 anni ed il 18% ha tra i 18 ed i 25 anni.
