Our established brand Tokyo Design Studio is inspired by Japanese culture and praised for its refined contemporary designs and high-quality standards.

With design teams located in both The Netherlands and Japan we aim to create a unique and constantly evolving signature. Respecting centuries of porcelain and pottery heritage, we constantly look for unexpected perspectives that help us create the tableware of today and tomorrow.

Our products are authentic by nature. Predominantly made in Japan by artisanal methods perfected over 400 years. Our pad-printed products are baked twice, then decorated one color at a time, glazed, and baked again. Throughout the process a meticulous quality control is applied, making sure each product is of the highest quality.

When ceramics or pottery are described as "Arahake," it means that the surface has intentionally been left with a rough or coarse texture. This technique can be achieved by brushing the surface with a coarse brush, leaving deliberate brush marks and a tactile, uneven feel. HIME KOBIKI

The word "Hime" means "princess" or "young noblewoman" in Japanese, it is occasionally incorporated in the names or descriptions of specific tableware items or collections to evoke a sense of elegance, grace, or royalty.

"Kobiki" is a technique used in the production of lacquerware. It involves using a thin strip of bamboo or wood to pull or draw lines in wet lacquer, creating decorative patterns.

The Skull collection is designed by Royal Stafford, an industry leader in the manufacturing of English cream coloured earthenware.

Established in 1845, Royal Stafford is recognised around the world for its high quality, beautiful tableware. Every piece of pottery is produced with attention to detail and a lot of love and care in one of the oldest pottery factories in Stokeon-Trent, England.

FLORA JAPONICA

The Flora Japonica collection is inspired

by Dutch botanists bringing back new plant species from Japan, centuries ago. It is all about exploring and admiring Japanese flora. National treasures like the fine-leaved maple, the heartshaped katsura, pretty white pine trees and one of the oldest trees on earth, the ginkgo biloba, have found a place in our collection.

Amidst these wonderful trees you’ll find another Japanese phenomenon: the dancing cranes.

With Tokyo Design Studio we celebrate cross-cultural collaborations of the past and add a new chapter by giving a unique European twist to traditional Japanese pattern and tableware design.

Our Flora Japonica collection consists of porcelain plates, bowls and cups in various sizes. Each product is dishwasher-proof and safe to use in a microwave.

CAST IRON TEA KETTLE

Originally created in Ancient China, the cast iron teapot has become a widely-known traditional Japanese artefact as more people are now drinking loose teas. The designs of the teapots include different symbols which have a range of meanings, such as joy, strength, happiness and blessings. The traditional name for a teapot is tetsubin and the way tea is brewed is called kyūsu. Over time, the designs have evolved, with the style or design of the teapot reflecting the class or desired class of the owner, therefore becoming a status symbol in society.
