Dear reaDers Benno Leeser, president-directeur van Gassan met zijn vrouw Kitty Leeser.

met veel liefde hebben wij weer dit mooie Gassan magazine gemaakt. ondanks alle hectiek door o.a. de opening van de Jaeger-lecoultre boutique in de p.c. hooftstraat, hebben wij toch alle grote wereldbeurzen bezocht waar prachtige nieuwe horloge- en juwelencollecties te zien waren. het blijft heerlijk, ook voor ons, om op de beurzen de nieuwste collecties te mogen bewonderen. het levert veel inspiratie op en geeft ons zicht op de laatste trends; zo zijn bijvoorbeeld lange oorbellen een echte must op dit moment!

We zagen veel kleurstenen en met onze choices by dl collectie spelen we daar helemaal op in!

Naast de nieuwe lange “evening hippie chic” oorbellen, hebben we er ook een aantal mooie nieuwe kleurstenen bij. parels zijn weer helemaal hot, altijd chique en ook te dragen bij jeans (zie chanel) dus dames gewoon doen! Wij hebben een mooi roze parelsnoer met bijpassende ring van Schoeffel, echt iets nieuws en zeer bijzonder (zie bladzijde 76 en 77). de smaakvolle rolex Gmt met zwarte wijzerplaat en blauw/rode bezel, de zogenaamde pepsi, is een ware lust voor het oog. tevens mogen we natuurlijk de terugkomst van de altijd beeldige sea-dweller niet vergeten. tijdloos!

Wij zijn trots op het interview dat debora huisman leeser had met humberto tan (wat doet hij het goed in rtl late Night he?) met oger hebben wij al jarenlang een uitstekende relatie, onder andere door onze gezamenlijke passie, het werken in onze familiebedrijven.

Kortom, het Gassan magazine zal u veel lees- en kijkplezier bieden.

Neem er een wijntje, een kopje koffie of een kopje thee bij en ga genieten van al het mooiste op horloge- en juwelengebied.

as always our beautiful Gassan magazine was created with a great deal of love and attention. despite the hectic period around the opening of the Jaeger-lecoultre boutique on the p.c. hooftstraat in amsterdam and many other things, we were able to visit all the major international tradeshows and explore the beautiful new watch and jewellery collections. it is always a great pleasure for us to admire the latest collections at tradeshows. such events are a never-ending source of inspiration and help us keep up with current trends – long earrings are a real must at the moment, for instance!

We saw many coloured stones and the choices by dl collection is our fashionable contribution to this trend. in addition to the new long ‘evening hippie chic’ earrings, we also added several lovely new coloured stones. always chic and a perfect combination with jeans (much loved by chanel), pearls are another hot trend of the moment. so ladies, just wear them! We have a gorgeous string of pink pearls with a matching ring by Schoeffel, something completely new and truly special (see page 76 and 77). the tasteful rolex Gmt with its black dial and blue/red bezel, the so-called pepsi, is another eye catcher. and we must not forget to mention the return of the wonderful sea-dweller, a truly timeless creation!

We have had a wonderful relationship with oger for years now, among other things sharing a passion for working in a family business. all things considered, our Gassan magazine is certain to capture your eye and interest. Afgelopen december hebben wij het 5-jarig jubileum van Choices by DL gevierd. Wat een feestje was dat! Aan Eva Simons, onze nieuwe brand ambassador, heb ik het eerste exemplaar van de nieuwste Black IP ring uitgereikt. Een perfecte gelegenheid om ook de stoerdere kant van mijn merk te laten zien. Ook waren o.a. de echte modetoppers Leontien Borsato, een trouwe fan vanaf het allereerste begin, en Winonah de Jong aanwezig. Onze speciaal geselecteerde modellen, de prachtige tweeling Janneke en Maaike, trokken vanwege hun lengte veel bekijks, veel gasten wilden met hen op de foto. Een avond om in te lijsten met alles tot in de puntjes verzorgd, zelfs de lekkere kleurrijke hapjes matchten perfect met de Choices by DL kleurstenen! Ook de pers was ruimschoots vertegenwoordigd wat heeft geresulteerd in diverse leuke artikelen over dit memorabele event en een mooi item op LXRY TV.

This past December we celebrated the fifth anniversary of Choices by DL, and what a party it was! I presented the first Black IP ring – the latest model in this series – to Eva Simons, our new brand ambassador. It was the perfect opportunity to showcase the rock chic side of my brand. Among the guests were popular fashionistas Leontien Borsato, a loyal fan from the very start, and Winonah de Jong. The beautiful twins Janneke and Maaike, our carefully selected models, attracted a lot of attention because they are so tall. Many of our guests asked to have their picture taken with the twins. With every detail looked after, it was truly a night to remember. Even the delicious, colourful snacks perfectly matched the Choices by DL coloured gemstones!

The press was also generously represented, which resulted in several positive articles on our memorable event and a great item on LXRY TV.

Hij begon in 1954 als horlogemaker en heeft vanaf het begin van zijn carrière de ontwikkeling van Baselworld van een kleinschalig nationaal evenement tot vooraanstaande internationale horloge- en sieradenbeurs gevolgd en uiteindelijk ook gevormd. We ontdekken wat hem drijft. let’s be clear: Jacques J. duchêne is er niet de man naar in de achteruitkijkspiegel te kijken. hij is alleen geïnteresseerd in de toekomst. dat is wat zijn vernieuwende geest stimuleert. hij praat niet graag over zichzelf in de eerste persoon, want “wij” weerspiegelt beter het teamwerk waaraan hij de voorkeur geeft. maar als je wat dieper graaft, ontdek je zijn brede ervaring in de horlogemakerij en zijn bijdrage als hoofd van het exhibitors’ committee van baselworld. hij heeft dit evenement mede vormgegeven.

En wat waren uw eerste indrukken als President? een van onze eerste beslissingen was het aantal deelnemers aan de beurs te verkleinen. ik vond altijd al dat 2.300 deelnemers een veel te groot aantal was. het was echter een risicovolle beslissing en bij de uitvoering moesten veel hindernissen worden overwonnen. maar nu geloof ik dat we allemaal blij zijn dat deze verandering heeft plaatsgevonden. het meest opvallende voorbeeld is het aantal merken in Hal 1. Voordat in 1999 de nieuwe hal werd opgetrokken, stonden er meer dan 100 merken in Hal 1. In 1999 waren dat er nog maar 70 en inmiddels zijn het er ongeveer 20.

Baselworld onderscheidt zich door de verscheidenheid aan deelnemers. Is dit een belangrijk voordeel? absoluut. maar het is ook de uitdaging. de belangen en verwachtingen variëren van deelnemer tot deelnemer en van sector tot sector. het succes van baselworld is dat we al deze deelnemers met hun uiteenlopende verwachtingen aan ons binden. We hebben de grote horlogemerken en kleine ambachtslieden die naast de grootste diamanthandelaren ter wereld zitten. Natuurlijk kunnen ze niet allemaal dezelfde verwachtingen hebben maar iedereen vindt wat hij nodig heeft op baselworld. als dat niet zo was, zouden ze niet terugkomen.

U heeft al vele jaren gewijd aan de horlogemakerij en Baselworld. Wat trekt u hier nog steeds in aan en houdt u bezig? het feit dat er altijd projecten zijn die moeten worden geleid. dat vind ik er leuk aan, dat houdt me bezig. ik kan me niet voorstellen dat ik ’s ochtends zou opstaan en me moest afvragen hoe ik de dag zou doorkomen. dat at zit niet in mijn aard. Wat ik leuk vind en wat me echt motiveert Wat moest er nog meer gebeuren? Wat was voor u een is dat ik ’s ochtends opsta en problemen moet oplossen. ik prioriteit? houd ervan de discussie aan te gaan, ideeën en meningen uit te ‘EEn fantastischE bEurs. EEn must Kwaliteit en continue kwaliteitsverbeteringen. dat is van wisselen, en beslissingen te nemen. en ze door te voeren. dat voor ons, En nu niEt allEEn om in cruciaal belang in de analyse van het huidige succes van is altijd mijn benadering geweest en zo is het nog steeds. alles baselworld. op een gegeven moment maakte ik kenbaar dat wat ik heb gedaan en alles wat ik doe in de horlogemakerij is tE kopEn maar ook om tE vErkopEn’. ik genoeg hutten had gezien. een deel van die stands was teamwerk. dus zeg ik liever “wij” dan “ik” als we het hebben benno leeser, president-Directeur van Gassan niet meer dan een hut. We konden niet zo doorgaan zonder over wat de beurs heeft bereikt. het risico te lopen aan prestige en kwaliteit in te boeten. We moesten dus reorganiseren en de deelnemers ervan overtuigen dat dit de beste manier was. Zo Waaraan schrijft u het succes van Baselworld toe, naast het teamwerk? slaagden we er langzaam in iedereen te laten investeren in stands die de beurs waardig zijn. de ik blijf niet hangen in herinneringen maar het is van belang dit wel te doen als we willen culminatie hiervan was Baselworld 2013 met de nieuwe hallen waarin bijna alle deelnemers een begrijpen waarom de beurs tegenwoordig zo succesvol is. We moeten de historische nieuwe stand hadden gecreëerd. iedereen zag het belang van deze stap in en ze investeerden achtergrond van dit succes in overweging nemen. en natuurlijk de continue verbeteringen en allemaal in de beurs. veranderingen die zijn doorgevoerd. de oorsprong van baselworld ligt in de eerste schweizer Mustermesse Basel (MUBA) in 1917, waar slechts een paar horlogemakers aanwezig waren. In Is deze kwaliteitsverbetering zo belangrijk?

1931 volgde de eerste Swiss Watchmaking Fair, die nog steeds verbonden was aan de MUBA en Jazeker. het is een grote wereld en er zijn veel andere internationale beurzen die zich ook waar horlogemakers hun werk voor het eerst in een eigen paviljoen tentoonstelden. ontwikkelen en aan kwaliteit winnen. maar gezien onze investering en successen met baselworld denk ik dat het wel even duurt voordat ze ons inhalen.

Was dit de structuur toen u de wereld van de horlogemakerij betrad?

Ja, inderdaad. Ik was voor het eerst in Basel in 1955. In de algemene context van de MUBA Wat is nu het belangrijkste voordeel van Baselworld? presenteerden Zwitserse horlogemakers hun horloges en sieraden tussen vele andere objecten, Kwaliteit in alle aspecten. de deelnemers, de stands, de bezoekers en de media die de van sauspannen en textiel tot lokale producten. in die tijd was de stand van de grootste merken verslaggeving van het evenement verzorgen. dat is waar baselworld vooroploopt. en het zo’n vijf bij vijf meter. horlogemakers dreven in een zee vol andere vakken maar iedereen was vermogen zich duidelijk te onderscheiden van de anderen. gelukkig. het was natuurlijk een andere wereld.

Krijgt u nog steeds veel aanvragen van bedrijven die op Baselworld willen staan?

Belangrijke momenten in de geschiedenis van de beurs waren eerst de Europese en toen de baselworld is heel aantrekkelijk en dus ontvangen we natuurlijk veel aanvragen. maar we zijn internationale dimensie. Hoe veranderde Basel hierdoor? bijzonder selectief omdat we het kwaliteitsniveau van de huidige deelnemers in stand willen De eerste European Watch, Clock and Jewellery Fair vond in 1973 in Basel plaats. Natuurlijk houden. regelmatig worden andere vooraanstaande deelnemers toegelaten, zoals juwelier leidde dit tot intense discussie; de Zwitsers wilden graag hun producten exporteren, maar een Graff, die we dit jaar met veel genoegen voor het eerst verwelkomden. aantal van hen was er niet zo happig op stukken uit andere landen te laten zien. de toelating van europese deelnemers was een belangrijk moment in de geschiedenis van baselworld en Is het juiste evenwicht tussen juweliers en horlogemakers bereikt of blijft dit zich ontwikkelen? heeft deels bijgedragen aan het succes van nu. We ontdekten dat veel aziatische fabrikanten We hebben in beide categorieën ongeveer evenveel deelnemers. dit is de juiste mix en we hotels in de buurt afhuurden om hun producten te laten zien op het moment van de beurs. We hebben op het moment geen reden om dit te veranderen. realiseerden ons al snel dat de beste oplossing eruit bestond hen te integreren. deelnemers moesten nog worden geselecteerd omdat er veel te veel kandidaten waren. met ondersteuning Hoe ziet u Baselworld? van de hong Kong trade development council konden we dit oplossen. en dus opende de baselworld is een instituut. de omzet hier is aanzienlijk. de economische inbreng is van groot BASEL Show in 1986 haar deuren voor niet-Europese deelnemers. belang voor Zwitserland en de regio rond basel.

Wat waren uw ideeën toen u President van het Baselworld Exhibitors’ Committee werd? het leek mij direct nodig een ondersteunende cirkel om mij heen te bouwen door vertegenwoordigers van verschillende branches en de belangrijkste deelnemende landen uit te nodigen om zitting te nemen in het comité. samen konden we de beurs helpen groeien.

Wat waren de reacties van de deelnemers na de beurs van 2013, een jaar van verandering?

Ik denk dat 95 procent van de deelnemers meer dan tevreden was met Baselworld 2013 en alle verbeteringen die we hebben doorgevoerd. het gaat echt de goede kant op. Nu is het aan ons om dit vol te houden.

He started out in watchmaking in 1954 and, throughout his career, Duchêne has followed, then shaped, Baselworld’s evolution from a modest national event into the most prominent international watch and jewellery show. We find out what makes him tick. let’s be clear: Jacques J. duchêne is not the sort of man to look in the rear-view mirror. he is only interested in the future, that’s what stimulates his innovative mind. he doesn’t like to refer to himself in the first person, “we” being a better reflection of the teamwork he has always preferred. but delve a little deeper and his experience in watchmaking is revealed along with his contribution as the head of the baselworld exhibitors’ committee, an event he has helped to shape.

And what were your first impressions as President?

One of our first decisions was to reduce the number of exhibitors at the show. I had always believed that 2,300 exhibitors was a number that was far too high. however, reducing the number of exhibitors was a risky exercise that encountered many obstacles. Yet, today i feel that each of us is pleased this change took place. The most significant example is the number of brands that are in Hall 1. Before the construction of a new hall in 1999, there were more than 100 brands in Hall 1. In 1999, there were only 70 left, and today there are only around 20.

Baselworld distinguishes itself by the diversity of its exhibitors. Is this an important asset?

Absolutely. But that’s also the challenge. The interests and expectations differ from one exhibitor to the next and from one industry to another. baselworld’s success lies in bringing together all these exhibitors with their diverse expectations. there are the giants of watchmaking as well as small craftsmen rubbing shoulders with the world’s greatest diamond dealers clearly, they cannot all have the same expectations, but everyone can find what they need at baselworld. because if that was not the case, they wouldn’t come back.

After so many years dedicated to watchmaking and Baselworld, what still attracts you and keeps you going? the fact that there are always projects to manage. that’s the fun part for me, that’s what keeps me going. i couldn’t imagine getting up in the morning wondering how to pass the day. it’s not in my nature. the truth is, what i enjoy – what really motivates me – is being able to get up in the morning and have problems to solve. i like to have discussions, an exchange of ideas What other work needed to be completed? Is this the structure that was in place when you first entered the world of watchmaking?

Yes. My first participation at Basel dates back to 1955. Na het behalen van zijn vwo-diploma ging Humberto rechten studeren aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, waar hij zijn doctoraalexamen behaalde. Hij verscheen voor het eerst op televisie bij Sonja Barend in een programmasegment genaamd de tafel van 7. In 1991 werd hij aangenomen bij de AVRO als redacteur bij het programma Forza TV, wat hij al snel ook, samen met Jessica Broekhuis, presenteerde. Twee jaar later stapte hij over naar Studio Sport en presenteerde hij ook enige tijd het NOS Journaal. In 1999 werd Tan tot “best geklede Nederlander” verkozen, wat hem deed besluiten om zijn eigen kledinglijn te starten.

Verder is Tan bestuurslid van de stichting Suriprofs , die fondsen werft voor goede doelen in Suriname. Tevens is hij ambassadeur van het Nederlandse Rode Kruis alsmede van het Wereld Natuur Fonds en draagt hij Orange Babies een warm hart toe. In 2005 stapte Tan over naar de nieuwe televisiezender Talpa, waar hij sportdeskundige was bij NSE en presentator van het inmiddels van de buis verdwenen Café de Sport. Op 12 juli 2007 werd bekend dat Tan overstapte naar RTL Nederland, waar hij het zondagavond-eredivisievoetbal presenteerde.

In 2013 speelde hij een gastrol in de TV Kantine als Isaac van de Love Boat. Vanaf het begin tot de zomer van 2013 presenteerde Tan De Wedstrijden van de betaalzender Eredivisie Live.

Tan heeft een stem ingesproken in de Nederlandse bewerking van de animatiefilm Surf’s Up (2007). In 2009 sprak hij de Nederlandse stem in van Buck de Wezel in de film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs en bij de laatste Smurfen film heeft hij de rol van Hackus ingesproken.

Inmiddels is ook een aantal boeken van zijn hand verschenen, waaronder ‘Rondom Tan’ en ‘Het Surinaamse Legioen’. Tan viel regelmatig in voor 538-dj Edwin Evers tijdens diens vakantie. Ook was hij van 2008 tot en met 2012 wekelijks presentator van het RTL4programma RTL Boulevard. Van oktober 2010 tot maart 2013 presenteerde Humberto Tan het programma On the Move van BNR Nieuwsradio. Sinds 2012 heette dat programma BNR Humberto Tan . Het werd iedere werkdag tussen 6:00 en 9:30 uur uitgezonden. Voor BNR presenteert Tan momenteel nog een sportprogramma op zaterdag, BNR Sportzaken.

Sinds 26 augustus 2013 presenteert Tan zijn eigen talkshow RTL Late Night op RTL 4.

HUMBERTO TAN Had je van tevoren verwacht dat RTL Late Night zo’n groot succes zou worden? Nee, verwachten kun je niets. dat is ondernemen, je hebt alle hoop van de wereld, maar je hebt geen garanties. als je aan een nieuw project begint en het loopt goed dan kun je alleen maar dankbaar zijn, maar ik had het niet op deze manier en zo snel verwacht. Wel gehoopt natuurlijk! barend en van dorp hebben het 7 jaar lang gedaan en als je begint hoop je dat je het misschien 1, 2 of 3 seizoenen kunt volhouden en dat is nog steeds zo trouwens. Nogmaals, garanties heb je nooit.

Is het moeilijk om steeds weer met nieuwe gasten te komen, want je bent natuurlijk redelijk beperkt in een klein land als Nederland en dan toch dagelijks op de televisie? Ja, maar tegelijkertijd kun je ook elke dag een krant maken met heel veel berichten in het kleine land Nederland. het is niet makkelijk, maar tot nu toe lukt het goed. Je wilt natuurlijk altijd beter en dat gaat niet altijd lukken, dat is duidelijk. er komen per week twintig gasten en dat is niet niks.

Hoe vind je nog tijd om aan je eigen label ‘Humberto’, te werken? ik doe dat samen met een partner en mijn partner doet daarin het meeste. daarbij komt dat ik gekozen heb voor een modern model, waarbij de licentienemers voor een groot deel de collectie kiezen en bepalen hoe het eruit komt te zien. ik hoef mij alleen met de hoofdlijnen bezig te houden en niet met de details.

Today, Tan still presents a sports show on Saturday for BNR called BNR Sportzaken. Tan has been hosting his own talk show, RTL Late Night, on RTL4 since 26 August 2013.

When you started, did you expect that RTL Late Night would be so hugely successful? No, you can’t expect anything. that is what business is like, you have every hope in the world but there are no guarantees. When you start a new project and everything goes well, you can only be grateful but i really didn’t expect it this way and this fast. i did have high hopes, of course! barend and van dorp did this for seven years. When you set out you hope that you will be able to hang on for 1, 2 or 3 seasons. Which I still do, by the way. There are no guarantees, ever.

Als je zou moeten aangeven waarin de pakken van Humberto te onderscheiden zijn van andere merken, wat zou je dan zeggen? de kostuums van humberto zijn iets klassieker, mooi en goed getailleerd, maar niet dat super slanke. het is vooral gericht op comfort want het moet lekker zitten. Bovendien zijn het pakken onder de 1000 guldengrens van vroeger, derhalve een maximale prijs van €349,00–€499,00; de gemiddelde prijs ligt tussen de €249,00 en €299,00. Al met al een goede prijs-kwaliteitverhouding.

Is it hard to keep on presenting new guests? Obviously there are fairly limited options in a small country like the Netherlands while you are on TV every day? Yes, but at the same time we can also make daily newspapers with plenty of news in our small country. it is not easy but so far i have been doing well. obviously you always want to keep doing better and clearly that is not always possible. We have twenty guests each week, which is a lot.

Hebben jullie ook maatpakken? die hebben we ook, naast de confectiecollectie. maatpakken verkopen we met name in amsterdam bij house of men, het nieuwe warenhuis voor mannen op het Gelderlandplein maar daar worden ook confectiepakken verkocht.

Where do you find the time to work on your own label ‘Humberto’? i run the label together with a partner and my partner does most of the work. also i chose to work with a modern model, in which licencees largely pick the collection and determine what it’s going to look like. i only have to worry about the big stuff, not the details.

Wij zien steeds meer mono-brand boetieks ontstaan, is dat ook de kant die jij met jouw eigen label op zou willen gaan of concentreer jij je meer op winkels zoals House of Men? Ja, vooralsnog wel. het is een voordeel dat ik mijn eigen kleding altijd tijdens de uitzending op de tv draag. het is wel iets waar je je op moet focussen en op moet concentreren dus om nou een mono-brand winkel zelf te gaan runnen dat zit er mede daarom niet in. mijn voorkeur heeft het nog steeds om aan te haken bij zelfstandige winkels en het zoeken naar zelfstandige partners. online zijn wij partner van Wehkamp, maar ook van lokale helden.

Dus je gelooft wel degelijk in het verkopen via online webwinkels? Ja, dat gebeurt ook wel, zeker wanneer mensen weten welke maat zij van het label dragen kunnen de artikelen makkelijk online bijbesteld worden. het gaat hierbij vooral om overhemden en jasjes, maar ook wel schoenen .

Een te verwachten vraag: Jij bent een “ IWC friend of the brand”. Waarom heb je juist voor IWC gekozen? ik denk dat wij heel goed bij elkaar passen. van iWc vind ik die verborgen schoonheden zo mooi, hoewel je het niet meteen weet, voel je dat er iets kwalitatiefs in zit. daarbij is de skelleton achterkant prachtig maar het is de hele uitstraling van het merk. ik ben in het gelukkige bezit van een IWC Aquatimer,een Portuguese en een Portofino. De Aquatimer draag ik voornamelijk tijdens de vakanties omdat je deze nooit af hoeft te doen en je ermee kunt zwemmen. Het horloge kan zowel sportief als bij een pak gedragen worden. De Portofino en de portuguese zijn wat gekleder, deze draag ik meestal tijdens de uitzending.

Draag je verder nog juwelen? Nee, ik draag alleen een horloge, cliché maar waar. o nee, ik heb er nog één, een mooie pen.

Welke merk heeft qua pennen jouw voorkeur? mont blanc. ik heb er één gekregen van de hoofdredacteur van rtl late Night in december, als afsluiting van het jaar en als bedankje voor de eerste 3 maanden onverwacht succes. een mooi en blijvend cadeau.

En een trouwring of een verlovingsring? Nee, ik ben niet getrouwd, wij wonen in zonde samen.

Zijn er naast IWC nog andere horloges die jouw voorkeur hebben? Ja, ik vind de panerai luminor en de revolt van Jaeger-lecoultre heel erg mooi. toevallig ook richemont merken. verder ben ik in het bezit van een erfstuk, een rolex daytona. maar ook horloges van het merk a. lange & söhne vind ik heel fraai.

Kun je nog iets zeggen over je smaak v.w.b. bijvoorbeeld een stalen, gouden of lederen band of goudkleurige uurwerken? ik vind goud sowieso beter bij mijn bruinkleurige huid passen dan zilver of platina. mijn voorkeur gaat dan ook uit naar een roségouden horloge, waarbij het een ton sur ton effect geeft. Voor de Aquatimer vind ik een rubberen band het mooist en bij mijn Portuguese en Portofino een lederen band.

Heb je ook nog een voorkeur voor de kleur van de wijzerplaat? Mijn IWC Portofino is voorzien van een grijze wijzerplaat en mijn portuguese heeft een witte wijzerplaat. Zwart staat goed bij bijvoorbeeld een panerai luminor en mijn iWc aquatimer omdat dit vooral een wat stoerdere uitstraling geeft. in het chiquere bereik vind ik de grijstinten of de klassieke wittinten mooi.

Was het voor jou moeilijk om over te stappen van de sportjournalistiek naar de meer algemene onderwerpen zoals bij RTL Late Night? Nee, niet echt. toen ik nog bij studio sport werkte heb ik dat gecombineerd met het Journaal bijvoorbeeld. en eredivisie live deed ik tegelijkertijd met bNr radio en rtl boulevard. momenteel presenteer ik rtl late Night en BNr Sportzaken op zaterdag van 12.00 tot 13.00 uur. Ook ga ik straks met BNr naar het WK in brazilië.

In how many Dutch stores is the label available? Wow, i have to think about that. i’m not aware of the latest data but it is available from at least 60 stores throughout the country.

If you had to describe why a Humberto suit stands out from other brands, what would you say? humberto suits are a little more classic, beautiful and well-tailored but not super slim. the brand focuses primarily on comfort because the suits have to fit well. Moreover the pricing is below the former 1000 Dutch guilder threshold – the maximum price of our suits is €349 to €499 while the average varies from €249 to €299. All in all the label offers an excellent price/quality ratio.

Do you offer tailor-made suits as well? We offer those in addition to the ready-to-wear collection. tailor-made suits are sold primarily in amsterdam via rick moorman this is correct, the new men’s department store on Gelderlandplein, but they also sell ready-to-wear suits.

There is a growing trend towards mono-brand boutiques. Would you like to do the same for your own brand or do you focus more on stores like Rick Moorman? Yes, for the time being. it is an advantage that i always wear my own clothes for the tv show. it is something on which you have to focus so that is one reason why running a mono-brand store won’t work for me. i still prefer to work with independent stores and search for autonomous partners. online we have partnered with Wehkamp but also with local heroes.

So you do believe in selling via web shops? Yes, we do to some extent. products can be ordered easily online, particularly when people know what size they wear in our brand. We mainly sell shirts and jackets but shoes are also ordered online.

One question you may have been expecting: You are an ‘ IWC friend of the brand’. Why did you pick IWC in particular? i think we are a really good match. i love the hidden beauty of iWc – while you are not immediately aware of it, you do feel that there is a quality to it. moreover the skeleton case back is wonderful but in fact it is the whole look of the brand. i am the lucky owner of an IWC Aquatimer, a Portuguese and a Portofino. I mainly wear the Aquatimer when I’m on holiday because I never have to take it off and can wear it in the water when I go swimming. This watch can be worn in both a sportive look and with a suit. The Portofino and Portuguese are a little more dressy so i usually wear them on the show.

Do you wear other jewellery? No, i only ever wear a watch. it’s a cliché but it’s true. No wait, i have another one: a beautiful pen.

What is your preferred pen brand? mont blanc. the head editor of rtl late Night presented me with one in December, to end the year and thank me for the first 3 months of unexpected success. a wonderful, lasting gift.

And a wedding or engagement ring? No, i am not married. We live together in sin.

In addition to IWC, are there any other watches you prefer? Yes, i think the panerai luminor and Jaeger-lecoultre’s revolt are extraordinary. by chance these are also richemont brands. and i also own a rolex daytona, a family heirloom. but i also like the watches by a. lange & söhne very much.

Can you say anything about your tastes, for instance your preference for a steel, gold or leather bracelet or gold-tone watches? i do think that gold looks better with my darker skin than do silver or platinum. so my preference goes out to a rose gold watch for a ton sur ton effect. I like a rubber band better on the Aquatimer and prefer a leather band on my Portuguese and Portofino.

Dus de combinatie van sport en algemene zaken is er nog steeds? Ja, die is er nog altijd. ik schrijf elke week een sportverhaal, waarmee ik bNr sportzaken altijd afsluit. binnenkort komt er een sportboekje uit, waar de naam nog niet van bekend is, maar dat zal een bundeling zijn van 50 á 60 van deze verhalen van het afgelopen seizoen.

And do you have any preferences where it concerns the colour of the dial? My IWC Portofino has a grey dial, the portuguese has a white one. i like black for a panerai luminor, for instance, and my iWc aquatimer because it makes for a more rugged look. for a more chic style i prefer grey tones or classic whites.

Is RTL Late Night een goed platform om sport te bespreken? ook aan tafel bij rtl late Night zitten veel gasten uit de sportwereld, zoals louis van Gaal vorige week. maar ook Johan Cruijff is op bezoek geweest, evenals Sven Kramer. Binnenkort vindt het WK Hockey plaats waar aandacht aan zal worden besteed. sport zal dus een onderdeel blijven van rtl late Night.

Hopelijk is de scheidsrechter van de Champions League finale, de heer Kuipers, vanavond te gast in de uitzending.

Was it hard for you to switch from sports journalism to more general topics, such as they are presented on RTL Late Night? No, not really. When i worked for studio sport i combined that work with the News, for instance. and i did eredivisie live (first division live, ed.) at the same time as bNr radio and rtl boulevard. at present i host rtl late Night and bNr sportzaken on Saturday from 12:00 to 13:00. I will also travel to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil with BNr.

After graduating from high school, Humberto studied law at Amsterdam University and obtained a Master’s degree. He first appeared on television in the Sonja Barend show, featuring in a programme segment called ‘The Table of 7’. In 1991 the AVRO channel hired him as an editor on the Forza TV show, and shortly thereafter he was asked to host the show together with Jessica Broekhuis. Two years later, he moved to Studio Sport, and also anchored NOS Journaal, a news programme, for some time. In 1999 Tan was elected ‘Best Dressed Dutchman’, which encouraged him to start up his own menswear collection. Tan is also a member of the board of the Suriprofs Foundation, which raises funds for charities in Suriname. He is an ambassador for the Dutch Red Cross and the

So you still combine sports with general topics? Yes, i still do. i write a weekly sports report to wrap up bNr sportzaken every week. While we haven’t decided on the title yet, a small sports book will be published in the near future. it will be a collection of 50 or 60 of these stories from the last season.

Is RTL Late Night a good platform for discussing sports? We do invite many guests from the sports world for rTL Late Night, such as Louis van Gaal last week. But we also had Johan Cruijff and sven Kramer. We will shortly be devoting addition to the hockey World championship so sports will always be a topic in rtl late Night. hopefully we will have mr Kuipers, the referee in the Champions League finals, at our table tonight.

YEAR OF THE HORSE 万马争天下迦山展宏图 in amsterdam is het chinees Nieuwjaar een grote happening. het is een manifestatie welke zowel chinese als andere nationaliteiten aantrekt. Zoals elke grote metropool, heeft amsterdam ook een stadswijk, genaamd chinatown. deze buurt overlapt en grenst aan de Wallen gelegen rond de Nieuwmarkt, dichtbij het centraal station. Je vindt hier vele chinese restaurants, winkels en tevens een echte chinese tempel. Zelfs de borden met de straatnamen zijn tweetalig. het is geen grote buurt maar cultureel gezien interessant met een aantrekkelijke ambiance. het hoogtepunt van het chinese Nieuwjaar in amsterdam zijn de festiviteiten en de parade.

2014 is het jaar van het Paard en het Chinese Nieuwjaar viel op 31 januari. Gassan vierde dit in samenwerking met majestic met champagne, heerlijke hapjes en spetterend vuurwerk op de dam, met aansluitend een borrel bij majestic. Natuurlijk konden de traditionele chinese draken hierbij niet ontbreken. een goed begin van het jaar! een groot deel van de activiteiten werd gehost vanuit de fo Guang shan tempel. deze boeddhistische tempel is een unieke verschijning in een Noord- europese stad en doet altijd veel rondom het Chinees Nieuwjaar. Dit is ook de locatie waar de officiële viering altijd begint. de fo Guang shan tempel ligt op de Zeedijk, omringd door enkele van de beste chinese restaurants in de stad.

een culinair avontuur wachtte nog op de feestgangers in het drijvend culinair paleis sea palace. het is een unieke ervaring om een hapje te eten in dit authentiek chinees restaurant en tegelijkertijd te genieten van het prachtige uitzicht op amsterdam. het typisch chinees Keizerlijke ontwerp van sea palace met haar opvallende groen geglazuurde dak fonkelt als een smaragden juweel op het iJ. sea palace is gelegen ten oosten van het centraal station.

2015 wordt het jaar van de geit. Wederom zal de viering van het chinees Nieuwjaar groots worden aangepakt in de stad amsterdam. chinese New Year is a huge happening in amsterdam. the event attracts both chinese and people from other countries. like every big metropolis, amsterdam also has a neighbourhood called chinatown. it is situated adjacent to and overlaps with de Wallen surrounding Nieuwmarkt square, near Amsterdam Central Station. This is where you will find many chinese restaurants and shops as well as a real chinese temple. even the street name signs are bilingual. it is not a big district but is interesting from a cultural perspective and has an attractive ambiance.

The festivities and parade are the highlights of Chinese New Year in Amsterdam. 2014 is the year of the horse and chinese New Year was celebrated on 31 January this year. Gassan celebrated the occasion in collaboration with majestic, enjoying champagne, delicious snacks and fireworks on Dam square, followed by drinks at Majestic’s. Naturally the traditional chinese dragons had to make an appearance, as well. it was an excellent beginning of the year! a big part of the activities were hosted at the fo Guang shan temple. this buddhist temple is a unique building in a Northern european city and makes sure the chinese New Year is celebrated in style. It is also the location of the official celebration. The Fo Guang Shan temple can be found on Zeedijk surrounded by some of the best chinese restaurants in town.

A culinary adventure awaited the guests you on the floating Sea Palace. Having lunch or dinner at this authentic chinese restaurant whilst admiring the wonderful view of amsterdam is a unique experience. the typically chinese imperial design of the sea palace with its brightly glazed green roof sparkles like an emerald jewel on the IJ waters. You will find the Sea Palace on the east side of amsterdam central station.

colourless or white diamonds, most commonly known to the public, show no colour, at least at first sight. When you look at them more closely, these diamonds can show a hint of yellow or brown. When the stones are compared to master stones, the exact colour of each diamond can be determined. the closer to absolute colourless a diamond is graded, the higher its value. diamonds can be found in all the colours of the rainbow, from deep brown to warm yellow, lively pink to mesmerizing purple, intense red or deep blue. When diamonds show a vivid or intense colour, they are called ‘fancy colours’.

We zullen waarschijnlijk nooit achterhalen wanneer de eerste diamanten ontdekt werden. Wel weten we dat tot in de 18de eeuw India de enige producent was. In de 18de eeuw raakten de Indische mijnen uitgeput en werden er diamantlagen in Brazilië ontdekt. In 1866 werd de eerste diamant gevonden in centraal Zuid afrika. deze ontdekking was het begin van het overbekende de beers mijnenkartel dat instaat voor prospectie en ontginning op massale schaal. vandaag wordt er op verschillende plaatsen in de wereld diamant ontgonnen zoals afrika, canada, rusland, australië en india.

The first diamond in central South Africa was found in 1866, a discovery that marked the beginning of the well-known de beers mining cartel that represents prospecting and quarrying on a massive scale. today diamonds are mined in several places around the world, including africa, canada, russia, australia, and india.

WHAT IS A DIAMOND a diamond is a symbol of wealth, purity and love. the word diamond is derived from the Greek adamas, which means invincible. it is the hardest known material on earth and yet consists of one of the most common elements on earth: carbon.

HOE ONTSTAAT DIAMANT diamant ontstaat enkel onder zeer extreme omstandigheden. door zeer hoge druk en zeer hoge temperaturen in een koolstofrijk milieu. deze omstandigheden vinden we enkel op een diepte van 150 tot 200 km onder het aardoppervlak. Hier kunnen diamanten niet ontgonnen worden, gelukkig helpt de natuur een handje. door lava worden de diamanten naar de oppervlakte gestuwd waar het diamant houdende gesteente ontgonnen kan worden. door erosie komen de diamanten los uit de kimberliet laag en komen zo in rivierbeddingen terecht of worden meegevoerd naar riviermondingen, stranden en oceanen.

HOW DIAMONDS ARE MADE diamonds are created under the most extreme conditions of immense pressure and incredibly high temperatures in a carbon-rich environment. such conditions are found only at a depth of 150 to 200 km beneath the earth’s surface. We cannot mine diamonds that deep down so luckily nature offers a helping hand. Under the right conditions a lava flow can bring diamonds up to the surface, where we can excavate the rock and extract the diamonds. erosion loosens diamonds from their kimberlite surroundings, after which they end up in river beds or are transported to estuaries, beaches and oceans.

DIAMANT ONTGINNEN Diamant is uiterst zeldzaam. Om 1 karaat te ontginnen ( 1 Kt is 1/5 van een gram) moet men gemiddeld 250 ton rots, zand en grond verplaatsen. er moet intensief naar gezocht worden, zowel in uitgedoofde vulkanen als in het grind van rivierbeddingen en zanderige kustgebieden. het vinden van diamant kan zowel het resultaat zijn van een grote industriële onderneming als van ambachtelijk of zelfs manueel werk.

DIAMOND MINING Diamond is extremely rare. To mine 1 carat (the equivalent of 1/5th of a gram) miners must displace on average some 250 tonnes of rock, sand and soil. it requires extensive prospecting in dormant volcanoes, gritty river beds and sandy coastal areas. finding diamonds can be the result of large-scale industrial prospecting or small-scale, even manual labour.
