Today is an important day for me, as I have the privilege of listening to your wonderful performances. Your continuous efforts today will lead to tomorrow. There may be some who achieved great results today and others who were nervous and did not do as well. However, music is a very long project that each person embarks on with their life. What is important is to thoroughly analyze what went well today and what did not, according to your own perspective. By doing so, a brighter musical journey should unfold from tomorrow. Music is an interesting and equal art. Each and every one of us has a special talent. I sincerely believe in and cherish the unique musical talent that only we possess, and I hope for further growth. There may be days when practice is tough and the desired results are not achieved. In such times, let us remember the day we started music. Surely, it was fun and exciting. Music is always on your side; no matter what, please continue to love it. Thank you very much for today. I look forward to the day when I can hear your performances somewhere in the world. Dear Finalists, Thank you all for sharing your music with me, the other judges and the families. Congratulations to all the winners! I know you all dedicated hours to practicing and sacrificed so much to play and sing your best on competition day. Thank you! If you didn’t win Champion this time, please do not fret. You are all young with so many more opportunities ahead! Try not to compare yourself to others but think of this opportunity as a race with yourself. Did you play better than your last performance or competition? Win! Did you feel like this experience helped you gain valuable performance skill? Win! Did you have better competition day preparation and focus? All of these are wins! Learning music is a lifelong journey and these wins will build over time. During an interview with 95 year old cellist Pablo Casals, he was asked “Mr. Casals, you are 95 and the greatest cellist that ever lived. Why do you still practice 6 hours a day? He replied, “Because I think I’m making progress.” I love his answer because it shows

Ms. CHRISTINA KNUDSON

that we all have more room to learn and grow. This is the wonderful thing about music. There is so much to learn and so much beauty we can bring to the world with our music. Congratulations again to all the finalists on your performances. I hope to see you on stage again in Japan!

鶴⽥あゆみ Mana Tsuruta JAPAN

I really couldn’t believe it, because everyone else's performance was amazing and I was thinking to myself it will be great if I get an award. But when I got the award, it’s like a self confidence boost, so thanks for the opportunity for me to become a better performer. Right now I’m 17 years old, I’m born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. By participating in an International Music Competition with Finalists from different areas and countries, personally I think that right now we are in the era of globalization, I feel like music is something that connect people despite cultural differences, language barriers and just sometimes that different areas and countries contestants that join these kind of competitions shows that music is very powerful and I think it’s more powerful than any other languages out there, because it’s so universal ; maybe

even if you cannot read or write in a certain language, you still can feel the music, maybe even if you cannot see, you can feel the vibrations through the air, I think that’s really awesome. Regards to a few words to the younger generation musicians: I started playing violin at 5 years old. I’m sure that you’ve faced lots of road block and I’m still facing them, but when you look back at those hard moments, you can really see the growth in yourself, so don’t compare yourself to other people; just compare yourself with your old self, and always strive to become better, participate in different concerts, so that you will be better at performing.
