A Month of Connection, Growth & Independence

Dear Members, Partners, and Friends,

As fireworks lit up our skies this 4th of July, we were reminded of the values that unite our industry freedom, resilience, and community. July has been a powerful month of action, progress, and connection across BBIA.

We started strong at the Transportation Impact Fee Workshop, where our members showed up and spoke out. Thank you for standing with us to protect housing affordability and smart development in Bay County.

We continued our Girls Inc. Inspire Days, introducing more young women to hands-on experiences in the trades an effort that’s planting seeds for the future of our workforce.

At our July Lunch & Learn, we were honored to host Ben Moorman, COO of the Bay Economic Development Alliance. His insights into Bay County’s growth and how our industry supports that momentum were timely and impactful.

We’re also excited to celebrate BBIA being one of only six Florida HBAs to reach 4–6.99% net growth in the NAHB Membership Drive—a true reflection of our members’ support and engagement. Stay tuned for the winner of the $750 travel stipend. Anyone who recruited a member from April 1st til June 30 was put in a bucket for how many members the recruited and drawn by chance. th

We closed out the month at SEBC 2025, where BBIA leaders attended high-level meetings, explored innovations in AI and operations, and built connections across the state. From economic updates with Dr. Dietz to the Future Builders of America competition and the unforgettable SEBC Bash, it was a week full of learning, laughter, and legacy-building. Thank you for being part of the BBIA family. Together, we’re building stronger foundations and nnection at a time.

BBIA AT SEBC 2025

A Week of Leadership, Learning & Legacy

The 2025 Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) was more than just a conference it was a full-blown experience packed with insight, innovation, and industry camaraderie From economic forecasts and AI tools to advocacy panels and dueling pianos, BBIA showed up, spoke out, and brought home big takeaways.

Hitting the Expo Floor

We kicked off the week on the bustling SEBC floor, where we were especially proud to visit the Future Builders of America booth Two schools competed to build the best workbench showcasing the next generation of skilled tradesmen and women Watching these young builders in action reminded us why workforce development is so critical to the future of our industry.

COLLABORATION WITH OUR FHBA

FAMILY IS MORE THAN NETWORKING—IT’S STRATEGY

Insight from Industry Leaders

One of the most powerful sessions we attended was the Post-Election Housing & Economic Outlook with Dr Robert Dietz, Chief Economist for NAHB He delivered sharp insights into housing trends, economic forecasts, and how political shifts will shape our path forward

Later in the week, we explored the tech side of our business in the Automate Where It Counts session with Joseph Burak from TRANSiT Strategy & Analytics. He walked us through how AI can streamline operations and boost efficiency without replacing the human touch that makes this industry thrive

Advocacy in Action

BBIA proudly joined fellow leaders for the Good Government Luncheon, where we heard directly from Senator Jonathan Martin, Senator Stan McClain, Senator Jason Brodeur, Representative Toby Overdorf, Representative Wyman Duggan, and Congressman Byron Donalds These conversations deepened our understanding of current legislative priorities and how we can continue advocating for the building industry at every level

We also took part in the Governmental Affairs Committee Meeting, Area Caucus Meetings, and the FHBA Board of Directors Meeting, where our voices were added to statewide discussions on regulatory policy, local issues, and future strategy

Leadership at Work

Behind the scenes, BBIA’s leadership stayed busy with key strategic meetings, including the Executive Officers Committee, Executive Committee, and Finance Committee meetings These sessions ensured our local association continues to thrive with vision, transparency, and smart planning

Building Your Legacy

One of the most inspiring events was the Young Professionals Panel: Building Your Legacy, where rising leaders shared real stories about challenges, wins, and what it means to grow in this industry Later, our YPs joined the FCMB for a lively happy hour full of laughter and networking

The Perfect Kickoff

We kicked off SEBC in style at the SEBC Bash!

Held in the stunning heart of the Gaylord Springs Resort, the venue set the tone for an unforgettable week

The evening featured an electric dueling pianos show that had the crowd singing along and laughing all night After the festivities, we wrapped up the night with a fantastic dinner at Wrecker’s, reconnecting with friends and colleagues from across the state It was the perfect start to an impactful conference

From deep policy conversations to lighthearted fun, SEBC 2025 was a true showcase of everything BBIA stands for: professionalism, advocacy, education, and connection We returned home energized, inspired, and ready to keep building Bay County’s future.

This month’s event proved to be especially impactful thanks to Ben Moorman, Chief Operating Officer of the Bay Economic Development Alliance (Bay EDA), who graciously stepped in on short notice to serve as our keynote speaker We are sincerely grateful to Ben for making the time and for delivering such a compelling presentation

Ben took us through a deep dive into the work Bay EDA is doing behind the scenes to attract and retain industry in Bay County From major manufacturing and logistics projects to business recruitment strategies and infrastructure investment, his presentation showcased just how much effort goes into building a thriving, sustainable local economy It’s inspiring to know that Bay EDA is actively cultivating opportunities that directly benefit our industry, workforce, and community at large We appreciated the transparency and detail Ben brought to the conversation, and we ’ re excited about the direction our region is headed

Thank you to our sponsors:

We’d also like to thank our incredible event sponsors for making this month’s Lunch & Learn possible:

ABC Supply Co Inc , who introduced us to Danny Kidd with BTR Systems We’re so appreciative of your continued support and for connecting us with such a valuable voice in the industry

PROFESSIONAL BUILDING Women In

& Women in Construction Committee

As the summer winds down, so does our third season of PWB Inspire Days with Girls Inc and what an incredible summer it’s been! Every Thursday, women from across our industry came together to inspire, encourage, and educate local girls from 5th grade through high school juniors Through career stories, Q&A sessions, and real-life insight, we gave these young women a firsthand look at the possibilities that await them in the building industry

This year ’ s Inspire Days wouldn’t have been possible without the generous time and energy of our amazing speakers Huge thanks to Vickie and Carlen from Propwic Construction, Michelle from Kitchen Designs, Shannon with CrownPoint Partners, Alex from BGN, Natalie from Precision Stoneworks, and Jessica at Cambria Kitchens. Each of you brought something unique to the table and reminded these young girls that there’s a place for them in every part of our field from project management and design to construction and stone fabrication.

We’re so proud of what Inspire Days has grown into and grateful to Girls Inc of Bay County for continuing to partner with us in this important work Watching these girls light up with curiosity and confidence has been one of the most rewarding parts of our summer.

In July, our PWB members also traveled to SEBC 2025, where we had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and future tradespeople from across the state A highlight of the trip was seeing our PWB Chair, Vickie Patterson, serve as a judge for the Future Builders of America (FBA) high school competition Two schools competed in a workbench-building challenge, showcasing real skills and serious dedication

We’d like to give a special shoutout to the two young ladies from Matanzas High School, who not only held their own in a tough competition but did it while rocking our signature hot pink BBIA safety vests! You made us proud and proved that women belong in every space of this industry.

Our PWB members had a great time connecting with FBA students throughout SEBC, offering support, sharing advice, and cheering them on. The energy was contagious, and we returned home feeling recharged and ready to keep pushing forward

Thank you to everyone who made this summer one to remember Whether you shared your story, judged a competition, or simply showed up in support, your presence made a difference Together, we ’ re not just building structures we ’ re building confidence, opportunity, and a stronger future for women in building

Panama City Transportation Impact Fee: What Happened and What’s Next

On Thursday, July 10, BBIA members, industry professionals, and concerned citizens gathered at the Bay County Government Building for a City of Panama City workshop discussing the proposed Transportation Impact Fee This meeting provided a crucial opportunity for stakeholders to share their concerns, ask questions, and understand how this policy could shape the future of development, housing affordability, and economic growth in our area

Following public input and staff recommendations, the City Commission voted to move forward with implementing the fee but with a significant change. Rather than enacting the full structure immediately, the fees were set to zero at this time This temporary measure allows additional time to develop a comprehensive mobility plan and consider possible exemptions before any financial burden is placed on projects.

While the vote did not align with the position BBIA and our industry partners advocated for initially, the outcome reflects the influence of continued dialogue and civic engagement. Our voices were heard By showing up, writing letters, and connecting with city leaders, our community helped shape a more thoughtful path forward

CHAIRMAN:

This is the start of a longer conversation, not the end BBIA remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting housing affordability, promoting fair and responsible growth, and giving Bay County’s building community a strong voice in local policymaking

A reminder to members: BBIA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) is actively being developed to further strengthen our presence in local elections and support candidates who understand the needs of our industry. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming PAC meetings and advocacy opportunities

We build more than homes we build policy, partnerships, and lasting impact.

ADVOCACY IN ACTION: AREA 1 MAKES A POWERFUL

IMPACT

FOR FHB PAC AT SEBC

Advocacy was front and center at this year ’ s SEBC, and Area 1 delivered in a big way to support the Florida Home Builders PAC (FHB PAC) and strengthen our industry’s voice across the state

A highlight of the Governmental Affairs Committee Meeting was Edwin Henry of the Home Builders Association of West Florida presenting a remarkable $20,000 donation to FHB PAC a proud moment that reflects Area 1’s commitment to protecting the future of Florida’s building industry

The Bay Building Industries Association (BBIA) joined that effort with a $1,000 Association Legacy Level contribution, receiving 10 limitededition bottles of FHB PAC Rum, each labeled and numbered These will be auctioned off to BBIA members soon to raise additional advocacy funds

Several BBIA leaders also made personal contributions:

Curt Hartog, BBIA President & Area 1 PAC

Chair – $1,000

Tom Gladstone, BBIA Treasurer – $1,000

Brian Knox, BBIA 2nd Vice President – $500

Joe Boudreau – $500

We also thank Brian Knox for representing BBIA during the Government Affairs session and participating in critical discussions on policy and regulatory priorities

The Good Government Luncheon, also in support of FHB PAC, brought together key legislators and honored Champions of Housing who continue to advocate for our industry.

Together, Area 1 has contributed over $30,000 to FHB PAC this year and counting This collective effort is what advocacy in action looks like

BBIA YP AT SEBC: LEARNING, LEADING &

LEVELING UP

MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN: CHAD OVERBY

Our BBIA Young Professionals showed up in full force for YP Day at the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC), and we ’ re coming home with fresh ideas, valuable connections, and renewed momentum for the rest of the year.

On Thursday, July 24th, several members of the BBIA YP Committee traveled to Orlando to take part in a full day of programming designed specifically for young leaders in our industry From the moment the day began, it was clear that this wasn’t just another conference it was an opportunity to grow, to connect, and to get inspired

We started with the Post-Election Housing & Economic Outlook presented by Dr Robert Dietz, NAHB’s Chief Economist Dr Dietz gave a detailed look at where the housing market is heading and what we should be prepared for in the months ahead. His breakdown of federal policy, interest rates, and builder sentiment was both eye-opening and empowering for YPs looking to better understand the economic landscape

After that, we dove into Automate Where It Counts: Your Guide to AI-Enhanced Operations with Joseph Burak of TRANSiT Strategy & Analytics. This session was a real standout offering practical ways we can integrate automation and AI into our operations to save time, improve processes, and stay competitive

One of the most meaningful moments of the day was the Building Your Legacy panel discussion, where young professionals from across the state shared their journeys, advice, and the challenges they’ve faced while building careers in the construction and development world. The panel was honest, encouraging, and a strong reminder that leadership isn’t about a title it’s about showing up, learning constantly, and bringing others with you

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS. BIG IDEAS. REAL IMPACT.

We wrapped the day with a joint Happy Hour hosted by FCMB and the YP Council, and it was the perfect way to wind down, build new relationships, and exchange ideas with peers from across Florida. The energy in the room was electric we ’ re part of something big, and we know it

We learned so much and can’t wait to bring those insights back to BBIA The Young Professionals Committee has exciting things on the horizon, and we can’t wait to share them with you Stay tuned for new events, networking opportunities, and ways to get involved right here in Bay County

If you ’ re a BBIA member under 45 or know someone who is now is the time to get involved. Reach out to us through the BBIA office or come say hello at our next event The future of the building industry is in our hands, and we ’ re ready to build it together
