April has been a month full of energy, engagement, and impact for BBIA and it’s safe to say we ’ ve been busy in the best way possible From workforce development to regional connections and everything in between, this month truly showcased what it means to build stronger together
We kicked things off in a big way at the Gulf Coast Salute Air Show, where our BBIA Future Builders Zone in the STEM area brought hands-on construction experiences to hundreds of kids and families. Watching the next generation explore, build, and discover the opportunities within our industry was nothing short of inspiring and a powerful reminder of why our Education & Workforce efforts matter so much
April also kept us connected across the region We were proud to be represented at the Tri-County Chamber After Hours event, continuing to strengthen relationships beyond Bay County and reinforce BBIA’s presence across the communities we serve. These moments of connection are key to growing both our network and our impact. Our Young Professionals continue to build momentum as well, with exciting programming and opportunities ahead. It’s been great to see that group stay engaged, collaborative, and focused on creating meaningful experiences for the next generation of industry leaders
Meanwhile, progress on the 2026 BBIA Scholarship Home has been incredible to watch Each new phase brings this project closer to completion, and with it, continued support for scholarships and workforce development right here in our community. It’s more than just a home it’s a reflection of what we can accomplish together. Of course, we also gathered once again for another strong Lunch & Learn, where members had the opportunity to connect, learn, and stay informed on topics impacting our industry These events continue to be a cornerstone of what makes BBIA so valuable to our members

There are moments when a room feels bigger than its walls when the conversations happening inside carry weight far beyond the afternoon. That was the energy at this month’s BBIA Lunch & Learn
With a full room of members, community leaders, and industry professionals gathered together, the program served as a powerful reminder of what can happen when education and industry move in the same direction. The afternoon’s keynote speaker, Dr. Irvin Clark, brought that vision into clear focus, offering an inside look at the growth and opportunity unfolding across Northwest Florida

Representing Florida State University Panama City, Dr Clark shared updates that directly connect to the future of BBIA’s members and the communities they serve From the continued expansion along Highway 79 to the forward-thinking FSU Health initiative, the message was clear: this region is not just growing it is evolving with intention.
Equally impactful were the opportunities being created for students and future professionals The FSU Panama City Promise Scholarship is opening doors for local students, while the upcoming Construction Engineering Bachelor’s Program signals a major step forward in developing a skilled workforce right here at home For an industry built on talent, craftsmanship, and innovation, these initiatives represent more than progress they represent sustainability.
Throughout the presentation, one theme remained constant: connection The kind that links classrooms to careers, students to opportunity, and education to the real-world needs of a thriving construction industry
That connection was further underscored by the presence of two local education leaders, Mark McQueen and Jim Norris Their attendance served as a meaningful reminder that workforce development is a shared mission one that requires collaboration across every level of the community
Of course, no BBIA Lunch & Learn would be complete without a few moments of celebration. Attendees enjoyed the signature mix of networking, recognition, and a bit of friendly excitement as winners were announced Congratulations to Scott Roberts, who took home the 50/50 drawing; Chuck Hudson of PeoplesSouth Bank and Dr. LeLi Merizier of R.I.S.E. Consulting, winners of the ABC Supply and Worthouse goodie bags; and Josie Strickland, who won a dolphin and Shell Island tour courtesy of Capt Anderson's Marina.
Behind the scenes, the success of the event was made possible by a dedicated team and strong community partners Marty Perrett once again led a seamless and engaging program, while SmartBank helped welcome guests at check-in. The team at Capt. Anderson's Event Center provided an exceptional venue experience, and Angel’s Barbecue & Catering delivered a lunch that kept conversations flowing long after the plates were cleared
As the room began to empty and conversations carried into the afternoon, one thing was certain: events like this are about more than a single program They are about building alignment, strengthening partnerships, and investing in what comes next Because at BBIA, building the future isn’t just a goal it’s happening now

BBIA Builds Momentum at the Tri-County After Hours Experience
On a warm evening in Bonifay, with the backdrop of the runway and a steady hum of conversation in the air, something bigger than a networking event was taking place it was a reminder of the power of regional connection
BBIA was proud to be represented at Elevate the Regional Connection: A Tri-County Chamber After Hours Experience at the Tri-County Airport With a strong showing from leadership and members including Curt Hartog, Michelle Hartog, Marty Perrett, Stacy Roberts, and Beth Klein the evening was a meaningful opportunity to continue expanding BBIA’s presence beyond Bay County and deepen relationships across the communities we serve

Events like this highlight an important truth: our industry doesn’t operate in silos Growth in one county fuels opportunity in another, and strong partnerships across county lines are essential to building a resilient, thriving region
Throughout the evening, conversations flowed easily as new connections were made and familiar ones strengthened It was especially great to spend time with fellow leaders and partners, including Keith Gross and Shane Abbott a reflection of the collaborative spirit that continues to drive progress across Northwest Florida
And while the connections were certainly the highlight, one detail deserves its own moment of recognition the steak A huge thank you to Innovations Financial Credit Union for delivering a meal that quickly became the talk of the evening. Let’s just say… it earned full approval from Marty Perrett, which is a review that carries weight.
The event itself, hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Holmes County Chamber of Commerce, and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, was a testament to what can be accomplished when organizations come together with a shared goal: strengthening the business community across the region
For BBIA, this is what membership is all about It’s more than attending events it’s about creating opportunities, building relationships, and being part of a network that extends across Bay, Calhoun, Holmes, Gulf, Franklin, Washington, and Jackson Counties.

BBIA Future Builders Zone Soars at the STEM Zone
What an incredible weekend at the Gulf Coast Salute Air Show STEM Zone, held April 10–12!
The BBIA Future Builders Zone was buzzing from start to finish, welcoming hundreds of kids and plenty of enthusiastic parents who rolled up their sleeves and dove headfirst into the world of construction From the first interaction to the final build, the energy was nonstop, the curiosity was contagious, and the impact was undeniable.
This was hands-on learning at its absolute best
Participants explored real-world construction concepts in a way that was fun, engaging, and memorable From operating construction equipment and experimenting with remotecontrolled machinery, to learning how to build a solid foundation, create level surfaces, measure with real tools, and even master sandcastle engineering every station offered a new opportunity to learn by doing And those “lightbulb moments”? They were happening all weekend long
That’s exactly why the Education & Workforce Task Force does what it does.
Beyond the activities, this event gave BBIA the opportunity to connect with families from across our community and beyond sharing who we are, what we stand for, and the countless opportunities available within the building industry These interactions are more than just moments they’re the starting point for future careers, passions, and pathways in the trades.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible volunteers who brought the Future Builders Zone to life. A heartfelt thank you to Curt Hartog, Natalie Cayson, Brian Knox, Amy Sauers, Carlen Liebe, Rob & Grace Griffith, Jeff Ury, and Jackie Buell, as well as Jeff and Lisa Ury, Tom Stoll, and Neal and Barrett Faulkner Your time, energy, and passion for this industry made all the difference
We are also incredibly grateful for the support that helped make this experience possible. Thank you to the National Housing Endowment for their generous grant, and to the Bay Education Foundation for including BBIA in such a meaningful and impactful event Partnerships like these are what allow us to continue investing in the future of our workforce
And what a backdrop it was
With the roar and precision of the air show overhead, the entire weekend was elevated by the incredible talent and dedication of the pilots and crews Being part of an event that combines innovation in the sky with hands-on learning on the ground made for an unforgettable experience for everyone involved
As the weekend wrapped up, one thing was clear this is what workforce development looks like in action. It’s engaging. It’s inspiring. And most importantly, it’s planting the seeds for the next generation of builders right here in our community

On April 6th, we hosted our third BBIA Commercial Meeting. The venue changed to House of Henry, which was a huge success The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating The attendees enjoyed the food selection as well
ABC Supply was our featured speaker and they discussed their specialities in the commercial industry A diverse dialogue evolved discussing industry trends, such as supply chain issues due to the unrest in the Middle East and private equity buying local businesses ABC Supply highlighted that due to their vast nationwide network, that they can overcome issues with supply chain due to sharing inventory
This was also the first meeting where we discussed our members' experiences at the local Zoning & Planning Board Meetings that were attended in Panama City Beach, Panama City, and Bay County, We focused on zoning changes and new developments in the pipeline to promote opportunities within the community for our attendees. We were very appreciative of those who attended the April Zoning & Planning Meetings and had gracious sign ups to attend the April & June scheduled meetings
There will be a recess for the month of May, but meetings will resume in June with Rob Griffith from Hutt Insurance as our featured speaker

The BBIA Government Affairs Committee is actively planning candidate forums for upcoming elections and will be participating in Government Affairs events at the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) this summer, ensuring our members remain informed, engaged, and represented at every level
At the state level, Florida lawmakers have reached an initial framework for the 2026–2027 budget, agreeing on top-line spending and setting the stage for continued negotiations during a special session beginning in May Differences remain between the chambers on key issues, including affordable housing initiatives. Ahead of those budget discussions, lawmakers will reconvene on April 28 for a separate special session to take up congressional redistricting, artificial intelligence regulations, and school immunization policies. th

Industry News – April Highlights from FHBA & NAHB
FHBA Florida Update
The Florida Home Builders Association remained actively engaged throughout the 2026 Legislative Session, continuing to advocate for policies that support Florida’s residential construction industry.
Key priorities included housing affordability, workforce development, property insurance stability, and reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens that increase the cost of housing
FHBA leadership and members remained involved in Tallahassee through meetings with lawmakers, agency officials, and industry partners to ensure the voice of Florida’s builders was represented during key legislative discussions
Ongoing conversations focused on streamlining permitting processes, addressing local impact fees, expanding workforce pipelines, and encouraging smart growth policies that meet the needs of Florida’s rapidly growing communities
FHBA continues to encourage members to stay engaged in advocacy efforts, reminding local associations that grassroots involvement remains one of the most effective ways to shape policy
NAHB National Update
The National Association of Home Builders continued advocacy efforts at the federal level on issues impacting housing markets and builders across the nation
Key focus areas included housing supply shortages, affordability challenges, labor constraints, mortgage rate pressures, and federal regulations that add costs to new homes.
NAHB continued to call for policies that increase attainable housing inventory, improve financing accessibility, and reduce barriers to development in markets nationwide
Workforce development remains a major priority, with continued investment in student chapters, skilled trades education, and programs designed to attract the next generation into construction careers
NAHB also emphasized the importance of tax policy, lending conditions, and economic stability that support builders, developers, remodelers, and homebuyers in an evolving marketplace.
