ВВЕДЕНИЕ Идея выставки с таким легкомысленным названием Hunky Dory («Всё в ажуре») родилась задолго до 2-ой Московской Биеннале современного искусства. Совместно с нашим партнёром – берлинской CFA Gallery мы неоднократно обсуждали возможность организации в Москве групповой выставки художников, творчество которых представляет наиболее яркий и актуальный срез современного искусства. Биеннале, заразившая буквально всю Москву вирусом повышенного интереса к новациям и достижениям на художественном фронте, стала мощным катализатором этого диалога. Результатом стал проект Hunky Dory, очень точно отражающий программную цель Галереи - презентацию в Москве современного искусства мирового уровня и ознакомление нашей аудитории с его важнейшими тенденциями и направлениями. Каждая галерея «заслуживает» своих художников и наоборот. Выдающиеся художники не сотрудничают с посредственными галереями. Без преувеличения «звёздный» состав авторов нашей групповой выставки делает честь CFA Gallery, напрямую работающей с большинством из них и предпринимающей гигантские усилия по продвижению их работ в лучшие музейные и частные коллекции, по организации выставок на самых важных площадках по всему миру. Эти же художники - и в фокусе нашего интереса. Некоторых из них нам уже удалось показать в Москве. Другие - впервые презентуются у нас на выставке Hunky Dory. Работая над этим проектом, мы не акцентировались на концептуальности, часто приводящей к совершенно невыразительным, непроницаемым для восприятия выставкам. Критерий выбора художников-участников проекта состоял, прежде всего, в том, чтобы сделать выставку максимально разнообразной и репрезентативной по стилям, жанрам и направлениям актуального
искусства, и, не в последнюю очередь – яркой, запоминающейся, несущей мощный энергетический заряд, провоцирующей диалог с публикой. Когда мы определились с конкретным составом работ, входящих в экспозицию, и попытались создать модель их инсталляции в нашем галерейном пространстве, то представшее перед нами зрелище буквально поразило нас своей насыщенностью, грубой вакханальной разнузданностью и скрупулёзно продуманной отточенностью одновременно. Настоящий праздник живописи и скульптуры! Название выставки витало в воздухе. Вербализировать его удалось нашим берлинским партнёрам из CFA Gallery. Оптимистичное Hunky Dory («Всё в ажуре») так назывался один из альбомов Дэвида Боуи – очень точно отражает настроение выставки, будоражащей эмоции, провоцирующей ощущение радости жизни и подъём уровня адреналина в крови. Проект Hunky Dory («Всё в ажуре»), начиная от идеи и до полного её воплощения, был подготовлен нашей Галереей в тесном сотрудничестве с CFA Gallery (Berlin), Luhring Augustine Gallery (New York), Gagosian Gallery (New York), без деятельной профессиональной помощи и энтузиазма которых, его реализация была бы невозможна. Выражаем искреннюю признательность за их усилия и понимание важности таких проектов, делающих Москву одним из полноценных центров мирового современного искусства. Отдельная благодарность художникам, с большим интересом и желанием поддержавших идею нашего проекта. Работа с такими партнёрами – несомненный шаг вперёд в развитии нашей галереи. Опираясь на этот, на наш взгляд, успешный опыт, выражаем надежду на возможность дальнейшего плодотворного сотрудничества с ними.
Introduction The idea for an exhibition with such a lighthearted title as “Hunky Dory” was born a long time before the 2nd Moscow Biennale of contemporary art. Many times we had discussed with Contemporary Fine Arts of Berlin, our main collaborative partner in this project, the possibility of organizing a group show of the world’s leading artists, whose work is on the cutting edge of contemporary art today. The biennale, which swept through Moscow and incited a storm of interest for innovations and achievements in the art world, was a major catalyst for this dialogue. We wanted to do a project which would accurately represent the purpose of our Gallery’s program to exhibit contemporary art of global significance in Moscow and introduce the audience to the most noteworthy trends and directions. And so, “Hunky Dory” was brought to fruition. Each gallery “earns” its artists and the other way around. Well-known artists do not work with mediocre galleries. Without exaggeration the star studded cast of our group show pays tribute to CFA Gallery, which works directly with most of them and makes great efforts in promoting their work into the best museums, private collections and the most important exhibitions in the world. These same artists are the focus of our interests too. Some of them have been shown in Moscow before. Others are exhibited for the first time at “Hunky Dory.” While putting together this project, we did not intend on conceptualizing a theme which often leads to vague and incomprehensible exhibitions. The criteria for choosing the objects above all aimed at collecting a diverse mix of styles, genres and directions in contemporary art, and last but not least,
showing work that is full of energy, is bright and memorable, and creates a dialogue with the public. When we settled on the specific works going into the exhibition and tried to create a model installation in our gallery space, the display before our eyes astounded us with its excessiveness, unruliness and at the same time scrupulous premeditated precision. A real spectacle of painting and sculpture! The title for the show was up in the air, until our Berlin partner gallery CFA came up with an optimistic “Hunky Dory.” This expression is a name of one of David Bowie’s albums and conveys the feeling of the exhibition which strives to capture the joy of life and stir up an adrenaline rush. “Hunky Dory,” from its inception to completion, was realized by our Gallery in close collaboration with CFA Gallery (Berlin), Luhring Augustine Gallery (New York), and Gagosian Gallery (New York), without whose professional help and enthusiasm, this project would never happen. We would like to express our sincerest appreciation for their efforts and understanding of the importance of such shows in making Moscow a reputable center of the world’s contemporary art. Our special thanks to the artists for their interest and desire to support the idea for our project. Working with such partners is an undeniable step forward in the development of our Gallery. Looking back on this, in our opinion successful experience, we look forward to the possibility of other collaborations in the future.
