Notes QUILT NEWS
The Museum Quilters are putting their finishing touches on this year’s project – “Field of Stars”, commemorating Ocean Township’s Sesquicentennial and the new millenium. Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers for providing the quilt as our biggest fund raiser: Marge Edelson, Addie Pillacani, Lois Landis, Betty Wilderotter, Marion Vogler and Ann Gasparini. Raffle books will soon be out. We appreciate your support in this raffle that has enabled us to redesign the Museum and to fund ongoing projects to promote the history of Ocean Township. _________________________________________________________________________
MUSEUM REDESIGN
With the painting completed, Museum volunteers planned the design around the themes of government, education, Oakhurst, Wanamassa and Wayside. New frames and captions show the development of our community, and artifacts and documents give added interest to the various themes. We are still planning to acquire some cabinets, for storage and display, to complete this project. Thanks to Peggy Dellinger, who leads this project with Ginny Richmond, Rich Kurkjian, Kay Zimmerer, Eileen McCormack and Lois Landis. ______________________________________________________ ___________________
EXHIBIT
We have heard from several former Oakhurst School students about their remembrances of their days at this wonderful neighborhood school. Charles Grippaldi stopped by and delighted us with his tales growing up in Oakhurst, attending the school, and then having the experience of returning as a school administrator for some of his former teachers! Charles Wells, a long time Museum supporter, writes from Florida of the championship teams under Coach Dahrouge including the Hurley Brothers, Bobby and Dick, Vinnie Gorman, and Dean Vegosin. He also recalls Chief Eisele, serving as the crossing guard, Garry Penta and Mrs. Mamula. Charles hopes to see all his former classmates at the upcoming 50th reunion, in about seven years. If you have any photos or memorabilia of Oakhurst School, contact the Museum at 531-2136 or Kathy Parratt at 531-0776. Museum hours are Tuesdays 1 – 4 PM. or by appointment. We will be contacting members for their help on the exhibit. You may donate baked goods, help on the exhibit days, or just come and enjoy. _________________________________________________________________________
