The 7-storey building, namely Mei Ho House, built in 1954 on the site to settle the victims after a devastating fre in 1953 which made 58,000 people lost their homes. It was the very frst public housing buildings in HK

In 2010, the government initiated a scheme to preserve and revitalise some of the historical buildings in HK and this project was part of the scheme.

The new hostel provided 129 rooms, 1 restaurant and 1 heritage museum after renovation.
