A big change for some, not so much for others North Central towns post varied results in election By Laura Hayden November election results in North Central Connecticut seemed to be one of extremes. Some towns like Enfield and Suffield experienced great change in their political profile — and others not so much.

Enfield: A significant reversal occurred in Enfield where, for the first time in 14 years, a Democrat majority was elected to the Town Council. Within a week after Election Day four Democrat newcomers joined three party incumbents at the swearing-in ceremony preceding the first council meeting of the new session. In so doing, the former Republican stronghold held for the past two years was flipped to a Democrat 7-4 majority. Democrats also took control of the 2021-22 Board of Education with a 5-4 majority. As a first order of business the new Town Council appointed Bob Cressotti mayor and Councilwoman Gina Cekala

deputy mayor, both via a unanimous vote by the council. “A challenge that we will face is for the council to work together as a bipartisan group for the betterment of Enfield,” Cressotti told the North Central News. “the most pressing issue that our council faces is the rescinding of the ordinance banning adult cannabis businesses in town,” Cressotti said, noting a position he maintained during the campaign concerning the prohibitive stance the previous council pushed through, even as public opinion at a council meeting and on social media did not support banning the businesses. Former Mayor Mike Ludwick, who was reelected to the council, did not reply to the NCN for comment. Cressotti also prioritized “looking for ways to reduce the town debt and finding economic solutions to benefit the town” at the start of his administration.
