Join us for the Sewing Bee Open Lab — a dedicated makerspace time just for sewing enthusiasts! Bring your ideas and use any of our 10 sewing machines, cutting tools and pressing equipment while receiving help in reading patterns, cutting fabric and troubleshooting stitches. Connect with fellow stitchers, borrow patterns and craft in a friendly, first-come, firstserved environment designed to inspire and support makers of all levels.

HEAT PRESS TOTE BAG WORKSHOP

Get introduced to the heat press and make your own sublimation tote bag! The heat press and sublimation printer will be available for use during Open Lab, so you can try out other designs and make more bags.

LEATHER WORKING WORKSHOP

Join us for an introduction to leather crafting, where you'll learn the basics and create your very own handcrafted project to take home. Once you've completed the workshop, you'll have access to our leatherworking tools during Open Lab, giving you the freedom to practice and bring your creative ideas to life.

MACHINE SEWING WORKSHOP

6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29

Receive an introduction to machine sewing and create a Jelly Roll mat! You’ll also learn how to make bias tape for quilt edging. Sewing machines will be available during Open Lab times so you can come back and keep practicing your new skills.

CRICUT STICKER WORKSHOP

6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20

Learn all about the Cricut machine, then design and print your own waterproof stickers, perfect for your tumbler or travel cup! The Cricut machine and ink jet printer will be available for use during Open Lab for more sticker-making or other projects.

HEAT PRESS TUMBLERS

10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25

Come check out the heat press and make your own sublimation tumbler! Once you’ve done the first project, the heat press and sublimation printer will be out during Open Lab so you can swing back by and keep playing around with your new skills at your own pace.

SOLDERING STAINED GLASS WORKSHOP

6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3

Register to learn the basics of soldering and create your own stained-glass piece! We’ll walk you through everything you need to know, and once your project is done, the soldering irons will be available during Open Lab times so you can come back and practice your new skills.

MACHINE SEWING WORKSHOP

10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22

Learn the basics of machine sewing and create your own quilt project! You’ll discover how to make bias tape for quilt edging and even try out a handy 3D-printed sewing tool to show how useful our 3D printers can be. Sewing machines will be available during Open Lab times so you can come back and keep honing your new skills.

This is a relaxing workshop where we learn to paint intuitively with watercolor. Intuitive painting is very beginner friendly (no artistic or technical skills needed!) and perfect for those looking to get expressive without the pressure.

PAINT LIKE T.C. CANON

Join us for a creative evening celebrating the life and legacy of Native American artist T.C. Cannon. Enjoy a bilingual (English/Spanish) presentation on Cannon’s bold style and impact, followed by a guided painting session where you can recreate one of his works or create your own inspired piece. This adults-only (21+) paint-and-sip event features wine, snacks and music from Cannon’s era. All supplies are provided, and wine is generously sponsored by the Garland Downtown Business Association and Friends of the Library. No painting experience needed — just bring your creativity!

CROCHET CORNER IN-PERSON

Crafters of all skill levels are welcome at Crochet Corner! We will go through making a creation from the monthly Crochet Corner display together. Basic guidance and some supplies will be available, but supplies are limited. Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies if possible. The patterns will call for a 3.5mm - 4 mm hook (E/F/G) and DK or worsted weight yarn.

AMIGURUMI WORKSHOP

4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17

All crochet crafters interested in the art of amigurumi are invited to this fun, casual workshop. Amigurumi is the Japanese word for "crocheted or knitted stuffed toy," and is a popular art worldwide for creating cute stuffed objects. In this workshop, we will cover the basic amigurumi stitches and techniques such as the magic circle, increasing, decreasing and making simple shapes, which participants can then use to design their own amigurumi doll. Please note that this is not a beginner crochet class! Participants should be familiar with basic crochet stitches and terms, such as the chain stitch and the single crochet stitch. Hooks and yarn will be available for use during the program.

Celebrate National Native American Heritage Month by learning about contemporary ChoctawCherokee artist Jeffrey Gibson and creating your own artwork inspired by his geometric art style.
