Nepal Update
Questions to get to know... UPDATE ON NEPALESE FUNDRAISING... The fundraising efforts at Sylvia Park were very successful. They included lots of raffles with items gifted by staff. Both students and staff were very generous and we were able to raise close to: $1300 A portion of this is being donated directly to Tin Roofs for Ghotra — this programme has been set up by Cocina Mitho Chha (CMC). They are a Nepalese Sustainable Social Enterprise that helps young orphans build skills in hospitality and cookery. We know that this money will go directly to helping Nepalese with shelter after the Earthquake. The remainder of the money has been given to our Nepalese students to give to a charity of their choice. Thank you all for thinking of others in their time of need and making a real difference! .

PETER GORDON & NEIL BRAZIER COME TO SYLVIA PARK We are honoured to host Peter Gordon and Neil Brazier as they speak to some lucky cookery students about their career and love of different cuisines and demonstrated 5 recipes for us. Renowned for his unique culinary philosophy, Peter Gordon is often credited as the “godfather” of fusion cuisine. He pushes the boundaries of where one national cuisine starts and another stops. Peter has written seven books and has contributed to a dozen others. He also writes for publications around the world including a weekly column in The New Zealand Herald. Peter is recognised as an ardent supporter of the food industry and of various charities in NZ and the UK, notably Who’s Cooking Dinner? and Sky City Dining For A Difference event which raises funds for Leuka and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand respectively.

NEIL BRAZIER’S CAREER & EXPERIENCE Neil Brazier is Head Chef at The Sugar Club at Sky City which is owned by Peter Gordon. He was also gracious enough to attend the masterclass and pass on his wisdom and passion for food. “Cooking is part of me, it’s a passion and a very extreme one at that! I am a Michelin experienced chef with 16 years’ industry experience and there is still nothing I would rather do. I have had the good fortune to travel the world cooking and sampling a huge variety of foods. Along the way I have cooked for quite a few internationally famous and well known guests.” “I have over 10 years experience in New Zealand kitchens and highlights include working along-side Paul Jobin to set up The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs. I then returned to England specifically to further my experience in Michelin star cooking before settling back here in Northland, taking up the position of Head Chef at Kauri Cliffs. It was during my four year stint at The Lodge that we won the title of the 6th best lodge in the world. On the strength of that success I bought The Landing Restaurant which I rebranded to Pear Tree Restaurant and Bar, winning numerous awards.“ “I have a passion for producing only the freshest, most interesting and best tasting food.”
