A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR As the grandson of Cuban immigrants and a child of 1980s South Florida, Gloria Estefan was part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Her latin pop fusion fit naturally to the music of my grandparents. I was their little (spoiled) Cuban boy. The day of Gloria’s accident, I remember the news on TV and going with my Abuela and Tata (my great aunt) to light candles for her at the local Catholic church. To them, like many other Cuban Americans, they saw Gloria as a representative of the community. One of our own. Gloria fled Cuba and made something of herself. She represents a long and resilient people and culture where art, particularly music, is important and celebrated. As I grew older and my grandparents eventually passed, it was harder to stay connected to the traditions that were part of my daily life as a child. In 2015 I won a grant to spend a month between Miami and Cuba working with Cuban artists. I was the first member of my family to return to Cuba since the 1960s. That trip changed my life. I felt reconnected to my grandparents in ways I never had before. It made me connect to Gloria and Emilio’s story - so many of us artists try to find ways to add to the tapestry of our nation using the traditions we hold close. Her music not only represents a personal journey as an artist and businesswoman, for me it brings me back home - Mi Tierra. I dedicate this show to my family and especially my abuelos - Delio and Hortensia Bazo (Papa and Abuela) without them I wouldn’t be the artist or the man I am today. Te amo siempre. ¡Viva Cuba libre! Nick Bazo

The Garden Theatre acknowledges that we occupy the ancestral lands of the Timucua and Seminole people, who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live, and recognize their continuing connection to the land, water, and air that Garden Theatre consumes. We pay respect to the Timucuans, Seminoles, and to their elders past, present, and emerging.

DANIEL MILLS APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Garden Theatre is honored to house the William Daniel Mills Apprenticeship Program. Harold and Rosy Mills selected the Garden to launch this new apprenticeship program for young diverse artists ages 13 through 22. This generous gift and program was created to honor the memory of their beloved son Daniel Mills, who tragically passed away in 2020. The program, which launched this month, will potentially expand to other arts organizations in Central Florida. For the 2021-22 Season, the Garden accepted 30 apprentices in areas of performance, directing, design/tech, playwriting, stage management, and education. Apprentices take Garden Theatre Education masterclasses, camps, and classes at no cost, in addition to attending rehearsals, performances, and other events also at no cost. Apprentices will also be considered for paid opportunities working on Garden Theatre mainstage productions. “Theatre brought joy to Daniel’s life, and the study of theatre was his passion. He committed himself to learning techniques, styles, and ideologies. He was a true student of the trade. This program’s education and experiential learning focus is a wonderful way to honor our beautiful Daniel,” says the Mills family. The Garden would like to thank the Mills Family for entrusting us to keep Daniel’s legacy thriving in our arts community. The Garden Theatre’s apprentices will be led by Education Director Nick Bazo, Associate Artistic Director Roberta Emerson, and Artistic Director Joseph C. Walsh.

Who’s Who in The Production Team JORDAN RODRIGUEZ (COSTUME RUN CREW) Jordan Rodriguez is a Montverde Academy alumni and is currently pursuing a BFA in scene design at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, learning everything there is to know that goes into the art of theatre. Jordan did technical theatre throughout high school and especially enjoys working with costumes and scenery. This is Jordan’s first time working with the Garden Theatre and is thankful for the opportunity to do so! RACHEL ROBINSON (COSTUME RUN CREW) was born in New York and is now located in Florida. She will be entering the 11th grade at West Orange High School where she had the privilege of being inducted into the International Thespian Society. Proudly devoting most of her time working with her high school’s theater department, Rachel also enjoys reading, drawing, and listening to music. She plans to continue dedicating her time to theater after graduating and although only ever working backstage, she hopes to one day become an actor. SIERRA VENNES (COSTUME RUN CREW) is originally from Augusta, GA. She graduated with BA degrees in both musical theatre and history from Coker College located in Hartsville, SC. During her time in college, Sierra found a love for costuming as much as performing and had an opportunity arise to costume design her first show, Spring Awakening. Prior to that opportunity she had already experienced being a dresser and acting as costume crew chief on various shows. During her remaining time at Coker she became the costume shop manager as well as the resident costume designer while performing in many of the shows she was designing for, such as The Trojan Women. After leaving college Sierra had the opportunity to work in entertainment costuming at Disney World as a CP, working on the Beauty and the Beast show as a dresser as well as working with many character costumes behind the scenes. Since then, Sierra’s performance experience outshines her costume experience in Orlando, but she does revisit the costuming world from time to time with shows such as Thrones! A Musical Parody (Costume Head Dresser) at Orlando Fringe and The Full Monty (Costume Manager) at Bay Street Players in Eustis. More recently you may have seen Sierra as a scareactor in Seaworld’s Howl-O-Scream or leading the audience through the end of the world in Apocalypseville! at this year’s Orlando Fringe. Sierra is super excited to join this production and is ready to be on her feet getting those quick changes so the performers can continue moving theirs. CAMERON HOUSTON (LIGHTING INTERN) I am the intern of our Production Electrician, Natalie Estes. I began my love for lighting and technical work back in high school, and have only grown to love it even more. Already I have grown to know so much about a part of production that I never believed I would. Now, it is my one love. Thank you to Garden Theatre for pushing me and my knowledge to even greater heights, with even more to go! TOM LIMBACHER (SPOT OP) Tom Is excited to once again be Joining the team here at the Garden. Last seen onstage in Hands on a Hardbody, Tom has also worked crew for Hairspray, La Cage Aux Folles, Christmas By Committee, and many more. He also plies his trade The Orlando Rep and Dr Phillips. Tom is also a very recognizable character actor from his numerous Orlando regional theatre appearances. But right now, he is most happy to be here at the Garden. ETHAN KAUFMAN*** (SPOT OP) Ethan Kaufman is an engineering student with a passion for technical theatre. Last year, he was a part of the Daniel Mills Apprenticeship Program, and contributed to the production of 16 Chairs. Additionally, he has served as Apprentice Lighting Designer for Man of La Mancha.
