Having grown up on a healthy diet of JJ Cale, Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits and Tony Joe White records, Abbie manages to condense those influences into her own style with an emphasis on the up-close-and-intimate side of ‘laid-back’. Drawing inspiration from life and by soaking up her favourite moments of rock, folk, country, soul and blues Abbie creates what she has nicknamed as ‘Rootsy Toons’. www.abbiecardwell.com

T he B lackeyed S usans The Blackeyed Susans’ music is lush, dark and romantic. Their most recent album, ShangriLa, earned them their second ARIA nomination and had Rolling Stone Magazine declaring them national treasures. Their op-shop stylings, from girl groups to klezmer, are beautifully twisted into something uniquely their own. It’s more roll than rock, a sad sweet music full of drama and humanity. For their Spiegeltent performance the band has fashioned a unique show that spans their entire twenty year career, serving both the long time true believers out there, as well as those seeking an introduction to the band. www.blackeyedsusans.com.au

L ast B ucket of Water The team that brought you Every Film Ever Made is back. The Hounds have a new mission: Protect Australia’s last bucket of water. This isn’t an after school special about how to preserve water. It’s a madcap, slapstick look at what happens when we finally run out. Since their debut in 2006, The Hounds have become one of Australia’s most exciting comedy groups. After a sell out season at last year’s Fringe Robby, Tegan and Adam are back for more. Every Film Ever Made was nominated for the Best Comedy Show at Adelaide Fringe 2008.

O ld M an R i v er Old Man River grew up in Europe and Israel, where after serving compulsory time in the army he embarked on a two year journey through India, Asia and the USA, busking on the street of NYC to earn the fare to Sydney where he quickly meshed with the Bondi scene including Ben Lee and Luke Steele from The Sleepy Jackson. Songs written across his amazing journey form the heart of his debut album, ‘Good Morning’. Now released around the world, the album has made Old Man River a #1 star in countries as far afield as Japan and Italy… and the journey is only just commencing.  www.oldmanrivermusic.com

The Paradoxical Adventures of Lawrence Leung & Andrew McClelland: Time Ninjas Lawrence (Learns To Breakdance, Choose Your Own Adventure ABC1) and Andrew (History of Pirates, Mix Tape) have stumbled upon time travel. Now they’re going forward to the past to make things better. Hopefully. The duo who asked you to join their ‘Somewhat Secret Secret Society’ present a mind-bending comedy that will go down in history... or potentially destroy it.

“An immeasurably enjoyable lark of a show... praise comes as easily as the belly laughs. You’d be hard-pressed to have more fun in any other festival show” The Age “Together they are comedy dynamite” Chortle (UK) www.lawrenceleung.com

Presented by Heath McIvor

R andy ’ s P ostcards from P urgatory Best Comedy Nominee 2008. From the award winning puppeteer behind ‘Sammy J In The Forest

Of Dreams’ comes a brand new comedy about a life misled and a puppet unhinged. Join Randy as he rants his way through tales of disastrous career moves, romantic miscalculations and incredibly poor life choices. The foul-mouthed, yet lovable Randy has enthralled crowds on the stand up circuit from Melbourne to Edinburgh. Although Heath McIvor has been a puppeteer for over ten years, ‘Randy’s Postcards From Purgatory’ is his debut solo show. “Great comic panache” The Age “An ingenious puppeteer” Scotland On Sunday

10 - 21 Mar at 8.45pm $24 (Conc, Tue & Preview 10 - 11 Mar $20) Presented by Songfront

R edhead Susie Keynes is the quintessential rocker girl who chooses her guitar for its tone first, then its colour. Having notched up a lot of the last decade touring internationally with the female fronted vocal powerhouse, Fruit, the fiery redhead from this superbly acclaimed group now brings her next incarnation to the stage. Redhead… Think the famously smart songwriting of Fruit combined with Keynes’ untamed rock sensibility and that well seasoned vocal.

“Channelling the raw energy of Patti Smith and the melodic sensibility of Joni Mitchell.” GT Weekly, Santa Cruz
