POWERLIFTING ACTION THIS WEEKEND REVISITING THE WHY PROJECT EQUIPMENT REVIEW: REP FITNESS AB-5200

unthinkable tragedy incredible strength

Sometimes It's Just Therapy In possibly the most emotional interview we've ever done, we visit Northwest Georgia to hear the riveting story of Kelly Hastings as she explained how a horrific crime led to her owning a home gym.

The reasons behind why we train at home are as diverse as our home gym setups and exercise goals. For some, it's about a physique or competitive goal. For garage gym owner Kelly Hastings it was about making herself as well as possible so she could be strong for her family. Her own grief is held at bay except for the stolen moments in her garage when she can let go of strength and be vulnerable enough to grieve, process and heal. As cliche as the phrase has become, sometimes it is just therapy. Watch Episode 4 of our ground breaking home gym documentary, The WHY Project now on YouTube.

EQUIPMENT REVIEW

Is the Rep AB-5200 the best utility bench for a home gym? The Rep Fitness AB-5200 is a solid bench! According to Rep Fitness, "The AB-5200 is our toughest, heavy-duty, adjustable bench that can handle all your needs, including saving space". Let's see if that's true.

Stand Up Tall The fact that this bench stands all the way up, is the BIGGEST reason I purchased it. Like most people who own a home gym, in my garage, space is at a premium. The bench I had previously was extremely sturdy but it took up a lot of space so anytime I wanted to use the power rack, I ended up with a bench taking up nearly 5.5 feet of space, making it tough on my wife and kids if they wanted to use the gym with me.

I Like The Way You Move I move my bench around OFTEN during a workout so I love how light this bench is Easy to move up and down from one position to another in seconds.

Don't Get Caught Slippin Remember that any bench you use is supporting YOUR bodyweight as well as the weight of whatever you're lifting. The AB-5200 is solid in every position I put it in with zero wobble. The bench surface is just sticky enough to let me set up in a safe, solid position to bench.

If I Ruled The World I would make this bench an FID instead of just flat and incline. But that might make it tough to store in the upright position so I'll learn to live with it.

What's the moral of the story? I like the bench and I wish I'd purchased it sooner. I've heard that it's comparable to the Rogue Adjustable Bench 2.0 which has a vertical storage option but with the Rep Fitness bench having a grippier pad surface.
