PEAL changes include: •
Allergen identification in the Ingredients List for each ingredient.

Required specific names for making allergen declarations.
•
Declaration of allergens in processing aids used.
•
Bolded format of exact allergen words.
•
In a size of type no less than that used for other text.
•
Molluscs as a new allergen category.
•
Specific nut types must be named rather than “nuts” or “tree nuts”, e.g. cashew, hazelnut. almond.
•
Specific cereal types must be named rather than “cereals”, e.g. wheat, barley, and oats in the ingredient list.
•
‘Wheat’ must still be declared when it is present in food, irrespective of whether gluten is present.
•
A specific declaration of gluten in the separate allergen statement.
•
A separate allergen statement in addition to the Allergens declared in the Ingredients list.

Allergen information is legible, and the same size font contrasts distinctly with the background of the label. Note: These are just some of the highlights. New Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) regulation with Ezi Scale In late February 2021, the FSANZ Code was amended to introduce new requirements for the labelling of allergens in food sold in Australia. FSANZ approved Proposal P1044 Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL). If your business is printing ingredients on labels for food, these new requirements will require you to take action. Businesses have 1 year (till 25 February 2024) to adjust their product information and labels to meet the new requirements. These requirements will change how allergen information is to be declared on all food labels. We are happy to announce that if you currently use an Ezi Scale or Ezi Labeller from GaP Solutions as an integral part of your business, you will not need to worry about your equipment meeting the new regulations, as the software on your connected Ezi Scale units will automatically be upgraded. The upgrade in the software will allow you to apply a bold type format to meet the new regulations. Products for sale in Australia will have specific allergen information in a particular format, exact wording and terms, in bold font, and in a specific location on food labels.
