Foreword by Tita Djumaryo Founder of Ganara Art

When we founded Ganara Art in 2013 we envisioned building an art ecosystem which enables all medium to thrive and flourish, becoming a part of the progressive Indonesian art scene.

Throughout the years we have managed to built stepping stones for emerging artists, and nearing the end of 2019 we are proud to present Jane Kurnadi’s solo exhibition; “Quilt Therapy”.

Jane’s art quilts not only showcases excellent skills but also an aesthetic depth as beautiful as other fine art media. She is consistent in creating the inticrate art quilts through the years. Her artworks exhibited in this solo exhibition moves our soul in a slow song as we are drawn from one quilt art to another, mesmerized in the details and the stories behind them.

Congratulations to Jane Kurnadi for this solo exhibition and we from Ganara Art wishes great success. We hope “Quilt Therapy” will give a wider narration to the Indonesian art scene how quilt arts is part of the ever-transforming art yet also indulging the audience in a sense of coming home.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Born as an introvert, I am hypersensitive to energies surrounding me and it was not an easy path to tread. Artworks, sketches, and doodles have been helpful to me in organizing both physical and visual experience. These finally end up irrelevant in the hands of time as all the experiences overflowed. All things considered, the stories I wanted to tell became harder and harder to convey and thus affecting my physical condition.

About 2.5 years ago, I started to learn the art of meditation and learning ways of silence. Unbeknownst to me, this is the way to recovery that I need all this time. In the silence, I can process more ideas clearly and learn how to further translate the ideas to the work.

I chose quilt as the medium to express myself as it has an arduous processing time which needs patience. The strenuous process and varying degree of techniques allow me to reflect and cultivate my anxiousness during the creative process. In each stitch and the pull of the string, I am sewing together back pieces of my ruptured self.

BIOGRAPHY

JANE KURNADI

The long and sturdy making of a piece quilt portrays my personal journey in life. Born as an artist granted with higher sense to almost any aspect of living makes that a lot of idea and creativity occupied my head. There must be a way to pull the plug to let them flow in control to benefit to self and others.

Quilts show in this exhibition are all the therapy to me and putting them in its spot would be a good opportunity to put the path of my personal journey to benefit to the universe where all of the idea and creativity comes from.
