Black McRaeGamefowl is a breed of fighting rosters that were developed in the United States by William McRae, who crossbred different varieties of chickens from around the world. The McRae gamecock is known for its aggressive nature and powerful striking ability It was first introduced to the public in the early 1900s, and it quickly gained popularity among chicken breeders and fanciers.
Breed History
Mr. William McRae bred his Blacks using a three-way cross of Jack Wactor’s Sheldon Black Roundhead, Kent Mug (black mugwump), and 1/8 Blueface Hatch.
The McRaes are heavy on the Black Roundhead bloodline. William McRae was one of the first long-knife men to ship from the States to the Philippines around the time of the Korean War to my knowledge. William was a legend for delivering a rooster that excelled at the long knife, and McRaes dominated the 60s, 70s, and early 80s.
The McRae Blacks have a very good station and are mulberry faced with dark red eyes and ebony legs too. One of the most lethal of today’s modern gamefowl, the vertical sweater has Mcrae blood in it.
