his year, bridal trends range from sweet to sassy, reflecting the two incredibly influential, yet starkly contrasting celebrity weddings of 2011: the Kardashian wedding and the British royal wedding. “People love to emulate celebrities’ style, and we’re seeing that right now with the bling and excess of the Kardashian wedding and the lace and modesty of the royal wedding,” says Rachel Frank of Old.New.Blue. On the sassy end of the spectrum are highdrama skirts, horsehair trim and blush-colored gowns. According to Courtney Schulman of Pearl’s Place (3114 Severn Ave., Metairie, 885-9213; www.pearlsplace.com), skirts with elaborate details such as hand-stitched beading, peplums and bountiful bling are ontrend. Reese Witherspoon’s Monique Lhuillier and Charlize Theron’s Dior gowns are cotton candy-colored proof that nonwhite dresses are on the rise. “Color is back in gowns, especially blush and champagne,” Schulman says. “Last season everything was just ivory with maybe one or two color accents, like a black sash.”

On the sweet side of things, illusion necklines and lace sleeves like those on Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen gown allow brides the coverage they desire — and often require — while still affording them glamour. “Modern brides are looking for something different than what their mothers wore, (but) they still view a wedding as a time of tradition and want to look timelessly chic,” says Amy Casbarian of Wedding Belles (3632 Magazine St., 891-1005; www.weddingbellesstationer.com). “No other bridal gown trend spans the ages as well as lace.

We continue to see it in many different bridal silhouettes, from ball gowns to sheaths, and most recently in gowns with lace sleeves.”

Built in the 1830’s and nestled along the Lower Garden District riverfront, the property is comprised of a two-story Creole cottage, a three-story rowhouse, & a two-story “Slave Quarter” with a downstairs bar.
