What is America’s best city to host a Super Bowl? In my opinion, New Orleans wins, hands down. We’ve hosted the Super Bowl nine times before and are about to show why we are hosting a record-tying Perfect 10. Those of us who live here already know New Orleans is the best city in the world; it’s unlike any other. For those who don’t already know this, let me tell you why our advancements, convenience and flavor set us apart. The last Super Bowl New Orleans hosted was XXXVI in 2002. Believe me, a lot has changed in those 11 years! The Mercedes-Benz Superdome received a $336 million facelift , the Louis Armstrong International Airport underwent a $356 million modernization project, and the downtown streetcar line expanded to now serve the Superdome, the New Orleans Arena and Champions Square. I love the New Orleans institution of traveling from Point A to B in a classic streetcar, but nine times

out of ten you don’t even need one! New Orleans features 22,000 hotel rooms in a 1-mile radius of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (NFL Experience & Media Center), Woldenberg Park (Verizon Super Bowl Boulevard) and the world-renowned French Quarter. How many other cities can boast that kind of convenience? The city, the people and this Super Bowl are defined by unparalleled authenticity. The New Orleans flavor of people, history, food, drinks, culture and nightlife can never be re-created by any other city. While most cities have to create an exciting fan experience when the Super Bowl comes to town, New Orleanians have been living in a visitor’s ultimate destination for almost 300 years: the French Quarter. Thanks to the Super Bowl, New Orleans once again seizes the world stage. Some wondered if we were up to the challenge. Obviously, any doubters don’t know the people of New Orleans. As our tenth Super Bowl comes and goes, the city is reaching new heights. And not surprisingly, football has once again played an important role in New Orleans’ continued recovery.

@ZachStrief New Orleans Saints Co-Captain/ Offensive Tackle

Dear NOLA: I want to thank you for your never-ending love, hospitality and spirit. You gave me and my beautiful wife a new home. May our city’s spirit forever burn and always strengthen. I can’t wait to show the world how special you truly are.

The Spirit of New Orleans

Moving to the great city of New Orleans was the best decision the Carville clan has ever made. We’ve long had a deep passion for the city, but raising our girls here is exceeding all our dreams. New Orleans has a spirit and mind of its own that is displayed through its culture and rich traditions. New Orleans is gentle, easy and hospitable, yet full of life and spirit. Celebration is always in order – from Mardi Gras to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and French Quarter Fest, New Orleans is a vibrant city 365 days a year. For those seeking a “Sportsman’s Paradise,” you’ve found your heaven. The Saints are never without their many faithful on Sunday in the Superdome, and just

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR By: Mitchell J. Landrieu, Mayor, City of New Orleans @MayorLandrieu Nearly four years ago, the NFL made a big statement about New Orleans by announcing our city would host Super Bowl XLVII. This game marks a record-tying 10th time New Orleans is hosting a Super Bowl, but it’s the first time since Hurricane Katrina devastated our region in 2005. After the Super Bowl announcement, the headlines in the national media proclaimed New Orleans was “on the way back.” This was truly a turning point for our city, and we have made it our mission to keep the momentum going. Since then, New Orleans has quickly become America’s host city for all things sports and entertainment. In 2012, our city played host to an unprecedented run of national events, from the BCS National Championship to the NCAA Men’s Final Four — all leading up to the biggest game in the world right now. One national headline even read “New Orleans is the sports capital.” It’s true; the energy in our city is contagious, but something is happening outside of sports entertainment as well. Though we were dealt the blows of Katrina, Rita, the recession and the BP oil spill, New Orleans continues to build back better and stronger than ever before. And this time, we’re out-innovating, out-educating and out-building the rest of the nation.

across the way you can enjoy the Hornets playing at the Hive. New Orleans is also home to college athletics at multiple universities (I’m sure you’ve all witnessed James’ passion for LSU), football bowl games, marathons, triathlons and an annual PGA Tour stop. A unique and wonderful experience you’ll find here: You don’t just learn the culture but actually live it. Our historic buildings are not only still standing but are homes to many New Orleanians. You can see and feel the history through the hardwood floors and the detailed iron railings inside and out. The multiple fragrances of the lush foliage, the music of the streetcars and the melodic church bells combine to delight all the senses.

New York. The city’s scenery and accommodating weather have made New Orleans an ideal location for film production, and as a result of all the new motion picture and television shows being filmed in town, a great number of jobs have flourished in the process. In fact, Forbes named New Orleans number one in “Brain Gain,” saying the city has gained about 36,666 residents with college degrees within the past two years. Whether you were born and raised here or moved here to start a new beginning or are just on a visit and enjoying many of the splendors of this unique city, New Orleans is one endless embrace and makes one and all feel right at home.

If you want to talk jobs and economy, you should know that New Orleans has the third-largest film industry in the country, next to Los Angeles and

From education to health care, this is a rebuilding from the ground up. We have $1.8 billion hitting the ground in school rebuilding for every part of the city, and now nearly 80 percent of our students are now enrolled in public charter schools – a higher percentage than anywhere else in the country.

core to see how New Orleans is rebuilding. The city is becoming even better than before Hurricane Katrina. You’ll see why our city is known for its history, vibrancy, hospitality and resiliency.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers strengthened and improved virtually all of the levees, floodwalls, pump stations and surge barriers that form the 133-mile Greater New Orleans perimeter system. The more than $10 billion federal system that is in place now is stronger and more resilient than it has ever been in the area’s history. New Orleans has become a hub for entrepreneurship, and we’re now attracting new, high paying IT jobs, software development and digital jobs, and jobs in film production. Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch said we were most improved city for business in America. And according to the U.S. Census, New Orleans is the fastest growing city in America. The world is taking notice of these upgrades. New Orleans recently received the 2012 World Tourism Award and was named the best American city to visit by Travel + Leisure Magazine. Whether it’s our world-renowned Creole cuisine, the historic French Quarter, live local jazz and blues, dozens of museums or our unique architecture with French, Spanish and Creole influences, there’s plenty to love about our charming city. There is no doubt that New Orleans is the best city in the world to visit – just ask the nearly nine million tourists we welcomed in 2012.

Going home usually means one thing for me: Mardi Gras. No matter how busy I am, I always like to get home before Fat Tuesday. We’ve always lived a few blocks off the parade route, so growing up it was one of my favorite times of the year.

@emeril Chef/Owner of Emeril’s, NOLA and Emeril’s Delmonico in New Orleans

I was first drawn to New Orleans in 1983 by my dear friend Ella Brennan. After eating my way through the city, I was hooked. The first few years at Emeril’s are some of my fondest memories. The energy in the restaurant was and still is electric, matching the feeling also found outside: a mixture of jazz music, second-line parades, Mardi Gras beads, world-class art, and of course, amazing food.

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome has received $336 million in upgrades on construction since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Post-Katrina improvements have sustained the Dome’s legendary history while offering the fans all of the advantages of new design and the latest technology. These spectacular upgrades have transformed the iconic facility into one of the finest in all of sports. Below are a few of the enhancements that have turned the home of Super Bowl XLVII into a state-of-the-art venue.

New Exterior LED Lighting System

WWW.NOLASUPERBOWL.COM • @NOLASUPERBOWL

The Superdome’s permanent lighting system features more than 26,000 LED lights in 288 fixtures and is capable of reproducing every color of the rainbow on all 96 concave aluminum panels that ring the building’s exterior – a canvas of more than 2 million square feet. The system is supported by more than five miles of copper wiring and is remarkably energy efficient. The entire system, when operating in one color, draws only 10 kilowatts of electricity – the same amount of energy used by a small home. When operated six hours per day every day of the year, no lights will need to be replaced until 2057.

New Sideline Seating

New Private Luxury Suites

The sideline seating on the Plaza level has been completely revamped, moving patrons closer to the action, with improved sightlines. The new lower bowl seating units have added 3,400 prime seats up close to the team benches. In addition, 5,000 seats have been replaced in the Plaza level with new club seats.

A total of 15 private box suites have been added to the Superdome’s 300 level, increasing the building’s total number of luxury suites to 152.

Expanded Plaza Level Concourse At key points on both sides, the Dome’s Plaza level concourse has been widened by 50 feet, providing better visitor access to other new improvements, including four additional permanent concession stands, four new permanent souvenir stands and 131 additional ADA seats, enhancing that seating element.

BRYAN BATT

Located below the reconfigured Plaza level stands on field level at the 50-yard line, two new 7,600-squarefoot premium Bunker Club Lounges feature private entry directly from the parking garage; an upscale environment for private events; and high-end amenities, including two full-service bars per club, lounge and table seating, and television monitors.

Nearly 400,000 square feet of aluminum was specifically researched, developed, tested and manufactured for the project. The new, custom anodized, light bronze exterior panels feature a fade-proof finish, measure 1 foot by 25 feet and weigh approximately 27.5 lbs. each.

At an early age I realized that my home town was magical and unique–the architecture, the music, the food, the way of life and especially the people are like nowhere else. Here we celebrate life, everything from birth to death and everything in between.

New Press Box A new state-of-the-art press box was built on the 700 Terrace level, with working space for 200 sportswriters and 12 booths for coaches, radio broadcasters and team operations.

Champions Square Champions Square is a 121,000-square-foot outdoor venue that is one of the city’s most popular entertainment destinations. With its close proximity to many area hotels and businesses, upscale facilities and more, Champions Square stands out among the notable outdoor spaces in downtown New Orleans. We are excited to be back in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. New Orleans is hosting its 10th Super Bowl this week and we are pleased that our fans will have the opportunity to enjoy this great American city. Much has changed since New Orleans first hosted the Super Bowl in 1972. The Super Bowl has become much more than just a game—it’s a week-long experience. One of the top events of Super Bowl week is the aptly named NFL Experience Driven by GMC, which makes its third appearance in New Orleans this year. Roger Goodell NFL Commissioner

From its modest beginnings 21 years ago inside a small convention center in Minneapolis to the expansive set-up this year inside the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the NFL Experience is one of the most popular Super Bowl traditions. With new attractions added each year, the NFL Experience presents a unique opportunity to get inside our game throughout Super Bowl week. The NFL Experience also benefits the local community. Through the Super Bowl XLVII Legacy Grant, proceeds from the NFL Experience help fund the renovation and beautification of five New Orleans Recreation Development Commission facilities and improvements to the NFL New Orleans Youth Education Town. Special thanks go to the Benson family, the New Orleans Saints, the New Orleans Super Bowl XLVII Host Committee, and thousands of local volunteers that devote their time to making this event so special. We join GMC and many other partners in welcoming you to the NFL Experience. We appreciate your interest and support.

Big Game, Big Fun! Game time is right around the corner. You are about to experience the sights, sounds and sensations that NFL players encounter all season long. What is it like to attempt a game-winning field goal as rushing defenders try to block the kick? How far can you punt, pass or kick a football as spectators watch your every attempt? How difficult is it to run a pass pattern between defenders and catch a whistling pass in midstride? The NFL Experience Driven by GMC, the NFL’s interactive theme park, located at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, is the place to find out. This year, with more than 75 interactive elements for visitors of all ages, the NFL Experience promises to entertain football fans. The theme park is a dream come true for NFL fans, young and old alike, with a chance to view breathtaking action from the NFL Network, inspect rare artifacts from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, learn how footballs are made and take the Quarterback Challenge. Fans can also learn more about the NFL’s health and safety work and community outreach through interactive exhibits, shop for Super Bowl merchandise and much more. Kids have their own spot, too! NFL Rush Zone offers younger fans the opportunity to tackle adult-style challenges with relaxed rules and downsized equipment. Join us in celebrating the great game of football and be part of the NFL Experience as it marks its 21st year of entertaining more than two million visitors with a unique assortment of interactive games, tests of skill, memorabilia and appearances by NFL players past and present. This is YOUR big day! The memories are waiting. For more information, please log on to SUPERBOWL.COM.

In 2013, Super Bowl XLVII will take place in between the two weekends of Mardi Gras, turning a traditional two-week party into a threeweek celebration in the Big Easy. Mardi Gras always falls 46 days before Easter Sunday, and with New Orleans being a predominantly Catholic town, New Orleanians party to the max prior to the more somber, religious time of Lent. So put on your Mardi Gras beads, scope out the parade route, grab everything you own that is purple, green and gold and be sure to check out Mardi Gras!
