THE TOTE GALWAY PLATE (HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE) OF €270,000 (GRADE 3) (Generously sponsored by Tote Ireland) Winner will receive €162,000 (Penalty Value: €159,300), Second will receive €54,000, Third will receive €27,000, Fourth will receive €13,500, Fifth will receive €8,100, Sixth will receive €5,400. An extended handicap steeplechase for four years old and upwards that have run at least three times in steeplechases up to and including 23rd July 2023. About 2 miles 6 furlongs 111 yards. €1,350 to enter on July 19th €1,080 extra; if forfeit not declared by July 27th and €270 extra; if declared to run. Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase or steeplechases after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper. In the event of the top weight remaining prior to the preliminary ballot being less than 11st 12lb, it shall be raised to that weight and all of the other horses shall be raised by an equal amount. (Penalties incurred by winning after the calculation of the weights shall be added to the weight of the horse as originally published before the raising of weights). The preliminary ballot will then be made in accordance with HRI Directive 10 (iii) (c) except the winner of The Galway Plate Trial Handicap Steeplechase at Kilbeggan on June 19th, 2023 which shall be exempt from the ballot if their weight is 10st or above. The IHRB have suspended the relevant sections of Rules 194 and 195 for the purpose of this race. The following procedures will apply for reserves. There will be a maximum of three reserves at time of Declaration on Monday, 31st July. Should one or more horses be declared non-runners to the I.H.R.B. by 10.00 a.m. Tuesday, 1st August, these non-runners will be replaced in the race by those reserves which have been declared to the IHRB by 10.00 a.m. Tuesday, 1st August in their order of priority. There shall be no reserves in the race after this time and any horse which has not obtained a place in the race at this time will be automatically removed from the race as a reserve. Declarations of riders for any reserve which obtains a place in the race and for which a rider has not already been declared must be made by 10.00 a.m. Tuesday, 1st August. Should the top weight declared be a non-runner by 10.00 a.m. Tuesday, 1st August and this results in an Alternative Handicap coming into operation, the weights will be raised at this time and revised declaration of riders will be accepted for all declared runners up to 12.00 noon on this date. Otherwise the normal Alternative Handicap deadline will apply. Handicaps calculated 24th July. Speed sensing equipment will be used in this race.
