Make your first 3D Video Game

If you love playing video games, this is the class for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, level design, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student created games will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers, Mac versions can be created after the program for $15.00 conversion fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

If you love the game Minecraft, and always wanted to design your own world, this class is for you! Discover how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access their project at home, students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

What Computers Think (Programing Logic 1)

Understanding how a computer “thinks” is one of the first steps to becoming an excellent computer programmer. A foundation in logic is crucial in developing this understanding. In this course, students explore how computers work and participate in activities that teach programming logic skills. So, become a master of logic. After all, logical tasks are what computers are best at doing!

Virtual Reality

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting-edge class, you will explore the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.

Advanced Robotics

During this class your team programs a robot to overcome daily class challenges using visual and text based programming. You will see firsthand how your program translates into action as you attempt to control your robot sensors and maneuver around obstacles. With your teammate, you will apply different coding concepts while using the scientific method to formulate, observe, experiment, test, and modify your robot. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies like Inside Out and Frozen by using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. You do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in this class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Mac users can play their project at home, but will not be able to edit the project without a PC. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Logic is fundamental to almost everything humans do. Because computers are an essential part of the 21st century, today’s students all need fundamental knowledge about how computers operate and how to communicate with them. Build a foundation of computational thinking by discovering how to use numerous strategies and resources that teach critical thinking and coding concepts. One of the benefits of studying coding concepts is an increase in logic and problem solving skills.

Baking cupcakes and understanding the beginnings of cake decorating can be a great way to explore your culinary interests. In this class students work in teams to understand and test recipes and explore different styles of decorating, and then we eat them!

BLAST Babysitting Basics

(Babysitter lessons and Safety Training) is an important training program for potential babysitters and parents considering hiring a babysitter. The BLAST program is exciting and interactive, providing extensive training in pediatric first aid, household safety, and the fundamentals of childcare. Includes: CPR, Current practices for safety and injury prevention, First Aid Basics, Quick Reference tools, and more!

The students are the stars, inspiring to create their own improv comedy in a special showcase on the last day of camp. Join us for laughter and have fun while studying improvisational acting techniques. Gain skills such as: self-esteem, listening, trust, confidence, creative problem solving, teamwork, focus, and the ability to turn challenges into gold. (Of course, that stuff ’s not as important as the part about fun and laughing.)

Creative Music Improv for Kids and Teens Bring your instrument, your voice, or just yourself and join in as we have fun creating original music from scratch. Using a variety of instruments and iPads/iPhones, we will improvise, make music, and write songs as a group, small teams, and individuals. We will record our music using GargageBand and iMovie, and perform for family and friends in an end of week concert. Ages 10 and up with any (or no) music experience are welcome!

Fun and Creative Individual Music Lessons for Kids, Teens, and Adults - $99.00 for 5 lessons, scheduled individually. Individual instruction in guitar, ukulele, songwriting, singing, and beginning keyboard for students aged 8 years old and up. Beginners are welcome, as are students with special learning needs. A 5-pack of 30-minute lessons is $99.00, and students may enroll for multiple 5-packs. Call 409-944-1344 to arrange lesson time.
