ELECTRICAL & HVAC HELPER PROGRAMS

Thanks to a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, Galveston College is able to offer a FREE eight-week Quickstart+ program designed to help people learn foundational skills in the fast-growing Electrical and HVAC industries. You will be presented with the basics of a trade including safety procedures, proper tool usage, regulations, codes, and more. This program is designed to help people to learn the basics of a trade and start making money right away. We not only offer job training, but career counseling and safety certifications with both NCCER and OSHA as well. Tuition is covered for everyone accepted into the program. However, if you are accepted into the program, you will need to purchase your own steel toe boots and Personal Protective clothing (PPE). Electrical Helper Program

Our Quickstart+ Electrical Helper program will include the following course, taught in a mixture of online and face-to-face, skills learning for 8 weeks, and a total of 200 contact hours. • Introduction to Electrical Safety and Tools (ELPT 1021) - Students should earn their NCCER safety certification upon successful completion • Basic Electrical Theory (ELPT 1011) • Electrical Code (ELPT 1001) • OSHA 10 Construction (OSHA 1003) - Students should earn their OSHA -10 construction safety certification upon successful completion • Professional Behaviors (BUSG 1017)

Super Summer Course

Complete your 2020-2021 FAFSA now to see if you are eligible for tuition assistance

Do you already have your Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy Certification? If so, you can complete both your NHA EKG and Patient Care Tech Certification in our combined 8-Week Summer Super Course! Course runs Monday - Thursday 5:30- 9:30 p.m. (June 7- July 29) and includes study materials, practice tests, and one attempt at each exam. Students must have completed Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy at GC to register for this Super Summer course, and to waive the healthcare requirements. Students must enroll in both courses for a total discounted rate of $1,200. TPEG funds of up to $600 are available to qualifying students who register by May 20, so complete your FAFSA today! Certified Nurse Aide

CNA CPT EKG PCT Students must register for both courses* Train to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in a long-term care facility. Explore the key components set by Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Course topics may include residents’ rights, communication, safety observation, reporting, and basic comfort and care. Emphasis is placed upon effective interaction with the healthcare teams. CPR Training is provided as part of the course but may be outside of stated class time. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we are still offering Nurse Aide training. However, please note that clinicals are simulated in our lab until our nursing home partners resume allowing students to come on Course Number Dates Day Time Price Room site. Get started as an entry-level phlebotomist and prepare for your certification exam with the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Study the skills used in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods, including proper techniques and safety precautions, as well as an understanding of professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology related to obtaining specimens from adults, children, and infants. * Please visit our website at GC.EDU/MEDICAL to see the healthcare program requirements that must be met prior to enrolling in the course. Students who pass the NHA exam are given Phlebotomy Clinical PLAB 1091.1900 TBA a provisional certification, that once employed or actual clinical experience is received, converts to certification. In addition to your NHA certification, students who successfully complete this program earn an Occupational Skills Award from Galveston College. Cost of this course is $999 and includes textbook, one attempt at the certification exam, and enrollment in student wellness at UTMB. Burgundy scrubs, a lab coat, and student patch are available for purchase in the bookstore, which must be worn during clinicals. Students are automatically enrolled in UTMB student health for the semester. This program is eligible for a payment plan. If you just want to take EKG as a stand-alone certification, you can!

Study the heart’s anatomy, function, how it produces electricity, and how one records this electricity with the EKG and telemetry monitor. This course addresses the EKG changes of commonly seen diseases, especially coronary artery disease and important heart rhythm disturbances. Successful completion should prepare students to take the NHA certification exam and introduce them to skills necessary for employment in the field. Textbook and study guide are included in the tuition. Students must meet program requirements prior to enrolling in the course. The course includes one attempt at the certification exam. This exam will be scheduled by the instructor and is nonrefundable and non-transferable.This program is eligible for a payment plan. CPR Cer tification BLS (Basic Life Support)

Our CPR Training courses are designed to prepare you for real-life situations. Galveston College provides CPR Training for individuals, companies, groups, and organizations with flexible scheduling. We can train your employees in CPR to help them obtain a certification. Students are trained by our American Heart Association (AHA) instructors to help infants as well as adults in an emergency situation. Classes run for 4.5 hours and a textbook is included. Students who successfully complete the training receive a CPR course completion card recognized by the American Heart Association. Course book included.

LOGISTICS Training

Thinking of a new career? With Amazon opening a new distribution center in our county, you might want to consider becoming an MSSC Certified Logistics Technician.

Two-Step Program

Certified Logistics Associate (CLA)

Topics include understanding the life cycle of global chain logistics, the logistics environment and familiarization with different material handling equipment, introduction to safety principles and safe equipment handling, quality control principles, workplace communications, teamwork and problem solving. Classes meet weekly for lectures. Cost includes one attempt at the MSSC CLA exam and online study materials.

Certified Logistics Technician (CLT)

The focus is on product receiving, storage order processing, packaging and shipment, inventory control, evaluation of transportation modes and dispatch and tracking. The Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) is our nation’s leading industry-led training, assessment and certification organization. REGISTER AT LEAST A WEEK PRIOR TO THE START DATE Tuition and fees must be paid upon registration.

ONLINE: Students can register online at www.gc.edu/CEregister with a valid MasterCard, Visa, Discover Card, or American Express.

IN-PERSON: You may register in person by coming to the Continuing Education Office located on the first floor of Moody Hall, at 4015 Avenue Q, Galveston, TX 77550. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 5:00pm. PHONE: You may register over the phone by calling the Continuing Education Office at 409-944-1344.

FAX: You may fax your completed registration form (this form is available on our website) to 409-944-1501, Attn: CE Dept. This is available 24 hours a day. MAIL: You may mail your registration form and send payment for tuition and fees to Galveston College, Continuing Education Registration, 4015 Avenue Q, Galveston, Texas 77550. Please do not send cash.

Class Cancellations, Room Changes, and Rescheduling: Courses with low enrollment prior to a start date are canceled prior to the start date. Students will be notified by phone or email when a class they are enrolled in has been canceled; however, we are sometimes unable to reach everyone. A refund of 100% is automatically processed upon cancellation of classes. To help avoid cancellations PLEASE Register At Least A Week Prior To The Start Date, and encourage your friends to register with you. Occasionally, canceled courses are rescheduled for a later start date, and you will be notified by phone when the opportunity presents itself. In the event of a classroom change notice of the room change will be posted on the Continuing Education doors and the classroom that was originally listed. Refunds: Refunds prior to the start of class will be 100%. Refund requests should be made in person or by phone to 409-944-1344. Refund requests must be received during normal business hours and at least one business day prior to the start date of the class. When a class is canceled you will automatically be refunded the full course amount. There are NO REFUNDS GIVEN AFTER A COURSE HAS BEGUN. There are NO REFUNDS for ED2GO, ProTrain, or Language Authority online courses. Parking: All students must have a valid GC parking sticker, (please pick up in the Media Center Rm: R-120) Visitors to campus must park in the visitors parking lot at the corner of Avenue Q and 39th St. Unpermitted cars parked in the Moody lot will be towed. Student ID Cards - Visitors: Enrolled students are required to posses a valid student ID card. These may be obtained in the Media Center (Rm: R-120) once you have your payment receipt. Visitors to campus and those who are only here for a short contract training class must display a visitor name tag on their person. These are available in the CE offices or from your instructor.
