The Gallo Center has adopted the use of digital programs meant to be viewed on cell phones or other computer devices. This change has important public health, environmental and economic benefits: reducing close contacts between patrons and ushers, cutting our use of paper, and eliminating substantial printing costs. View the program only before shows begin or during intermissions. Please be considerate of other patrons and artists on stage by not viewing it during performances. Patrons who do not observe this courtesy and create distractions may be asked to leave. Thank you!
The Gallo Center for the Arts is a non-profit performing arts center with a deep commitment to enriching the people and communities of California’s vast San Joaquin Valley. From the scintillating performances of its wonderful resident companies, to the great variety of world-class entertainment presented by the Center each season, to robust arts education programs for the region’s youth, this is where the magic happens.
From the beginning, the Center’s mission has been clearly defined: to provide an inspirational civic gathering place where regional, national, and international cultural activities illuminate, educate, and entertain. Since revenue from ticket sales and facility rentals only covers a portion of the costs associated with fulfilling this mission, the Center is dependent on the generous annual financial support from donors and program sponsors within our community.

Hailed by the UK’s Daily Telegraph for his “searingly poetic lyricism”, Philippe Quint has established himself as one of America’s preeminent violinists, enchanting audiences through his performances that seamlessly blend consummate musicianship with “breadth of tone and passion” The New York Times.
Quint’s relentless pursuit of the novel and unconventional, coupled with an insatiable curiosity, exemplifies his unique approach towards music. Continuously at the forefront of his commitment to classical music, Quint’s artistic philosophy is inherently uncomplicated: “Art, as great as classical music, is absolutely essential to our society”, he once shared with the Gramophone magazine.
With multiple Grammy Award nominations to his name, Quint is celebrated for his distinctive approach to classical core repertoire, advocacy for contemporary music, rekindling of neglected repertoire, and pioneering of an original music in contextmultimedia format. Quint has soloed with some of the world’s finest orchestras across the globe including the London Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Quint’s unwavering dedication to contemporary music has resulted in numerous premieres of works by some of the most exceptional composers of today including Lera Auerbach, James Lee III, Alyssa Weinberg and Jakub
Ciupinsky while continuing to highlight eminent American composers William Bolcom, Lukas Foss, John Corigliano, Leonard Bernstein, Henry Cowell and Ned Rorem.
In the 2024-2025 season, Quint is set to unveil an exciting premiere of a violin concerto especially written for him by a Belize born British composer Errollyn Wallen. The cocommissioned premiere will include Quint’s returns to the Calgary Philharmonic with Rune Bergmann, the Kansas City Symphony with Matthias Pintscher, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra with Joana Carneiro, the North Carolina Symphony with Carlos Miguel Prieto, the Magdeburg Philharmonic with Anna Skryleva, the Brevard Festival and a West Coast premiere at the Cabrillo Festival with Cristian Macelaru.
The last couple of seasons also saw Quint embarking on a series of captivating projects that included multimedia journeys of lives of J.S. Bach, Astor Piazzolla and Charlie Chaplin, several newly commissioned short ballets in collaboration with The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago as well as producing and co-directing acclaimed music videos “Valse Triste”, “The Red Violin Caprices Ballet”, “Smile” and “Meditation from Thais”.
An artist with visionary foresight, his contributions to the world of music extend beyond the stage. As a dedicated educator, Quint has conducted numerous lecturedemonstrations, actively engaged in
the creation of outreach and charity programs and led masterclasses across the globe. Quint’s articles and blogs on various music topics had been published in the Gramophone, the Symphony, the Strings and the Strad magazines, the violinist.com and The Violin Channel blogs, to name a few.
Other notable performances include appearances with the London Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony, the Weimar Staatskapelle, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, the China National Symphony, Orquesta Sinfonia de Galicia, the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Berlin Komische Oper Orchestra and MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, performing under the batons of such renowned conductors such as the late Kurt Masur, Marin Alsop, Edo De Waart, Andrew Litton, Tugan Sokhiev, Ludovic Morlot, James Gaffigan, Carl St. Clair, Michael Stern, Vladimir Spivakov, Cristian Macelaru, Kristian Jarvi, JoAnn Falletta, Krzysztof Urbanski, Jorge Mester, Jahja Ling, Krzysztof Urbanski, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Steven Sloane and Bramwell Tovey.
An active chamber musician, Philippe has appeared at the Mostly Mozart, Verbier, Luzern, Dresden, Caramoor, Colmar, Ravinia,
Aspen, Rome, Moritzburg, La Jolla, Lincoln Center and Chautauqua festivals in addition to recitals and chamber performances at the Kravis Center, the UC Davis Presents, the National Gallery in Washington and the San Francisco Performances.
Quint’s illustrious discography, comprising 17 award-winning commercial releases, recently expanded with a debut on the Warner Classics label. Titled “Chaplin’s Smile,” in collaboration with pianist Marta Aznavoorian, this CD showcases 13 original arrangements of songs composed by the iconic Charlie Chaplin. The album garnered global acclaim, receiving multiple Editor’s Choices from leading radio stations and earning accolades in such publications as the Forbes, the Gramophone, the BBC Music, the Limelight, the Strad, and the Strings magazines. This disc also served as the platform for Philippe’s inaugural music in context experience—a multimedia journey presented with orchestras and in recital: “Philippe Quint in Charlie Chaplin’s Smile.” The critically acclaimed show, that initially premiered in New York, Berlin, London, Moscow and Los Angeles in 2019 is currently on tour with already over 50 performances to it’s credit worldwide. Quint’s second music in context multimedia journey “Astor Piazzolla @100: Between Angels and Demons,” has also received rave reviews and premiered last season across the United States making its debut at the Philharmonic Soceity of Orange County.
Winner of the “Ambassador of Arts” presented to Philippe Quint by the Brownstone and
the Gateway Organizations at the United Nations, Philippe Quint is the first classical artist to star in the lead role of a major independent film Downtown Express co-starring Nellie McKay from producer Michael Hausmann (Gangs of New York, Brokeback Mountain and Amadeus) and multi-Emmy winning director David Grubin. The 2012 feature film made its debut in New York and Los Angeles, in addition to being showcased at various national and international film festivals such as the Woodstock Film Festival (New York), the Houston Film Festival (Opening Night), Festival International du Film de Mons (Belgium) and the Havana Film Festival.
Quint has been a guest on various TV and Radio shows including CBS, CNN, ABC, BBC World News, NBC, Reuters, Bloomberg TV, Sirius XM, NPR, WNYC, WFMT, WGBH and WQXR.
Philippe Quint boasts an impressive awardwinning discography that encompasses a wide array of rediscovered gems and beloved classics from the standard repertoire. Concertos by Mendelssohn & Bruch Violin Concertos alongside Beethoven’s Romances with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería under the baton of Carlos Miguel Prieto ( AvantiClassics), original arrangements of Bach’s compositions by composer/pianist Matt Herskowitz titled “Bach XXI”, the “Opera Breve” CD in collaboration with pianist Lily Maisky, Glazunov & Khachaturian Violin Concertos with Bochumer Sinfoniker led by Steven Sloane, Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Sofia Philharmonic conducted by Martin Panteleev, coupled with Anton Arensky’s String
Quartet No. 2, Op. 35 and a unique compilation of works by Niccolo Paganini arranged by Fritz Kreisler, which the BBC Music Magazine called “truly phenomenal.” Other critically acclaimed albums are on the Naxos label and include the world premiere recording of John Corigliano’s The Red Violin Caprices, Korngold’s Violin Concerto (Prieto/Mineria), William Schuman’s Violin Concerto, Ned Rorem’s Violin Concerto, Miklos Rozsa’s Complete Works for Violin and Piano with pianist William Wolfram, Bernstein’s Serenade (Alsop/Bournemouth).
Making his home in New York since 1991, Quint studied at the Special Music School for the Gifted with the famed violinist Andrei Korsakov making his orchestral debut at the age of nine. He earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Juilliard School. His distinguished pedagogues and mentors included Dorothy DeLay, Cho-Liang Lin, Masao Kawasaki, Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Arnold Steinhardt and Felix Galimir.
Philippe Quint plays the magnificent 1708 “Ruby” Antonio Stradivari violin on loan to him through the generous efforts of The Stradivari Society®.
